As the only child of an abusive biker and an alcoholic mother, Santana Rogers had one hero she could turn to in her life. Stake Wills, a member of the Kings of Bedlam Motorcycle Club, was her father’s best friend, her savior and her lifelong crush. When her father is sent to prison, the club and her only friends turn their backs on her, leaving her to deal with the fall-out of her father’s crime on her own.

Santana is proud of the way she’s persevered through the hard and lonely years on her own. When Stake reappears into her life after the county sheriff attacks her, she isn’t sure she’s willing to let him back into her life and her heart. And if she does, she’s not sure she’ll survive having her heart broken again when he inevitably leaves.

It just about killed Stake to walk out of Santana’s life, but after his best friend’s death, he’s forced to choose between the motorcycle club and keeping an eye on Santana. The club is the only family he’s ever known, and a blackmail threat by Santana’s mother threatens to destroy it all. He realizes that he made a mistake, but that won’t stop him from trying to prove to Santana that he’s still the man she needs him to be.

Re-read February 2017 - Still a 5 star read for me.
Read October 2014
I was disappointed that I let this book stay in my TBR folder for months before I pulled it out to read it. I loved the story, the characters and the author's writing style. Another plus is that the book was excellently edited and is not a cliff hanger.
Before I go further with this review I want to beg the author to give me books for Gypsy, Tiny and Digger as soon as she can put them out.
The author took a topic that has a lot of triggers for some reason, that being the H is 14 years older than the h. Not only that, the H was her father's best friend and has been around the h since she was in elementary school. Believe it or not, that one little fact usually bothers me but this author pulled it off well and gave me a story of deep love and commitment that I could believe. The H joined the club when he was a young man and always had protective feelings (not sexual) for the h. He actually protected her from her abusive parents. When she becomes a teenager, he puts distance between them and for 10 years they have no contact at all. She is 27 when circumstances draw them back together again. Once they connect, the love is real, the H is faithful and the h becomes his whole world. There's drama and intrigue with murder and dirty law officials. There's a brutal attempted rape of the h by the sheriff but she shows her strength and is rescued by the H.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and recommend it to my friends who like the grittier MC romances but want a H who shows complete love and devotion to the woman he loves. I definitely can't wait until the next book in the series.

And we finally have a 5 star ladies and gentleman (cheers, cheers), Thank you JudyB for the recommendation, I needed a 5 star book really badly and my girl came through in a big way and since she hates this at the beginning of reviews(LOL) I have to start by saying how much I freaking loved this book let the goosing begging yes it was that great, beginning, middle end, check, hot possessive jealous hero check, great side cast check, and a great heroine and storyline double check.

Growing up Santana only had Stake she could count on with an abusive father and drunk mother, Stake was the light in the dark path. Then her father was sent away to prison and killed and the MC turned their backs which hurt but Stakes betrayal killed. Now helping her dying mother Santana is barely holding on, and seeing Stake after years of his absence just about finishes her.

Stake always loved Santana and did everything he could to protect her, she was the only thing that brought a smile to his face. Then he had no choice but to leave her and since then he came to realize that his life was nothing without her. When Stake see's her after so many years he can't turn his back any longer, and when he walks into the mess that the sherif has done and nothing else matters but Santana.

Neither can deny how they feel and Stake knows that no matter what he won't leave Santana. As they make plans for the future and begin to fall in love Stakes freedom is put in jeopardy and the happiness that finally found to get her may be gone when they just found it. Now Stake will do anything he can to keep Santana safe and them together even if it means giving up everything else.

I love when an author can write the heroine as a victim and not make us roll our eyes or want to shake the heroine and say ok its time to move on Carol Lynne had me in tear for all that Santana had been through but at the same time admire her strength and perseverance. And I admit I love when the heroine is a victim and we get some boo hoo moments when down right I'm right in the trenches with them crying and wondering why. but many authors don't quite know how to pull this off and makes me left angry and irritated. This book had the perfect victim/ strength percentage for me. I got my cry on but punched my fist in the air for Santana's strength.

I can't wait for book two and three, and four and yep you get the picture. Stake was an amazing hero he was everything I look for in a hero, strong, possessive, jealous, faithful, smart, but a trigger when it comes to HIS girl. Santana was just an all around great heroine, and the supporting cast just made this book that much better and made me past ready for their stories. The storyline and world building was great especially considering how long this book was. From just this book I am hooked and will be gobbling up the rest of this series the second I can.

**there are some situations in this book that some may have a problem with but Ms. Lynne did such an amazing job writing this book and these situations that it was a beautiful telling of Santana and Stakes story. Sometimes ugly and painful but beautiful through it all because of their love and journey.

First off,THANK YOU Judy B!!!!! your rockin review of this book made me want to read this book ASAP!
I enjoy MC romances, and this one fit the bill to what I enjoy in this genre.
I loved,loved,loved the hero Stake,he was Alpha,possessive,and loved his woman,Santana.
The heroine had been abused physically and mentally by her parents since she was a child right untill her MC father was killed in prison. The hero was the one bright spot in her life, always there to comfort and take care of her after her father had beat her.The feelings she had for him were developing to love. But after the death of her father,he simply disappeared from her life with no explaination when she was 18.Everyone distanced themselves from her, some even calling her "trash".I felt for this poor girl.
Six years later, they meet again, her love for him remains ,and his for her ,he can now act upon it never mind the huge age gap and threat to his MC .After an attempted rape by the town sherriff and the death of her alcoholic mother, they become close and he moves her into his house. He does everything to keep her safe and secure, building up her confidence.
I loved these two damaged souls together ,the epilogue left me wanting more from this couple and some other players in this series, yes Tiny and Gypsy,I am lookin at you two!
Smoking hot love scenes and a definite rec for those who enjoy this genre.
4.5 WONDERFULL STARS :))

Just so you know went on to Biker's Babes club because I was desperate for a good MC read. So I did what any woman would do after reading a string of crappy books, sent out an SOS. Saying "Help which book should I read next" I'm so glad I did because this was highly recommended. With that being said, onto the review!

Santana Rogers is the child or woman you might know or have read about whose life has beaten her down. Abuse tends to shatter any chances of a normal life or dreams a person has. Not to mention that one magical word we live day to day praying the future outcome will change. Hope, four small letters can means so much.
 photo Ari.jpg
You feel her desperation and abuse, from those whose turned their backs on her and a towns ultimate betrayal. What do you do when you've lost everything and you think of yourself as nothing? Santana only loved three people in her whole life. Some of her best childhood memories were spent with Tiny, Jaycee and Stake
 photo great book 2.gif
But like a ghost she became invisible, a distanced shadow, a painful reminder of what could have been as they moved on with their lives.
Stake
 photo Tank.jpg
By the time Stake returned home, he was livid. He stalked into the kitchen, grabbed a beer and strode out
to the porch. He directed his anger at only one person, himself. What the hell had he been thinking? Did he expect her to welcome him inside after years of turning his back on her? Unfortunately, yes, that’s exactly what he’d hoped would happen.

I really appreciate a writer who doesn't pull any punches, especially when it comes to the world of outlaw motorcycle gangs. The Cut, by Carol Lynne, certainly did not try to sugarcoat or romanticize the biker "hero" as we see in so many stories of this genre. I liked the plausible, gritty read.

The world of the Kings of Bedlam, a biker gang in a small, dusty, depressing Texas Town, rang true. So did its inhabitants, from the blatantly ruthless biker Pres, his terrifying cohorts whose loyalty lies first and foremost with the club, and all the hanger-ons, a tribe of bedraggled, decrepit wives, mothers and children, whose familial ties are as solid and nurturing as that of a band of feral alley cats.

The main female character, Santana, is both a family member and a victim of this tribe, having been abandoned for shady, unbeknownst to her, reasons by the gang, and by the judgmental, cruel, small town at large, after her father dies in prison in the midst of serving a life sentence for shooting a police officer. The emotional connection to Santana was very poignantly felt by me and though I could not condone all her choices, actions and reactions, I understood and sympathized with every single one of them. The author, once again, does not shy away from the sordid details of what life is like for the poor and disenfranchised. Santana is strong as steel, a beautiful flower that somehow has sprouted from this dung heap, but she is also so emotionally vulnerable and fragile. Since the narrative is primarily driven by her, it was not difficult at all to identify with her and follow her through all her trials and tribulations.

The male anti-hero is again, completely flawed, but very plausibly written. I actually love that the characters were not the paint by numbers cardboard cut outs we see in so many pulpy novels of this genre, the willowy damsel in distress, the knight in shining armor. Stake is well aware of the illegallity, and immorality of his trade, dealing in drugs, prostitutes, bribes, and violence, and he is unapologetic for it all. He is almost like a numb, zombie-like warrior for the club, and given what we learn about his childhood and background, it is not surprising. The author does not present us with these facts as justification for his failings, they are just explanations, and once again, she manages to get my total and utter understanding and sympathy for a character who, handled by someone else, would have been reviled by me.

In the midst of all the violence and bleakness, the story between Stake and Santana, two lost souls who somehow manage to make a lasting and meaningful connection, is raw, emotional and beautiful. When Stake tells her the meaning behind his name, when Santana stands up for him, when he confesses to her, in his rough way that he loves her, I believed in them and in their love, as fucked up as it seems viewed from the outside.

"I wish I had the words to explain how deeply I need you, but I'm a fuckin' biker, so I'm going to try and put my feelings in a way you'll understand. The cut stands for my pride, my surrogate family, my self-worth, my career, my life. That piece of leather is everything I thought I ever needed, but I'd give it up right now if you asked me to, because I've realized that you're my cut."

As romantic declarations go, I thought this "fuckin' biker" did absolutely spectacular.

This book deserves many more stars than a measly 5 ;)....although this is the first book I have read by this author...I am hooked!! I can honestly say the wait for book 2 in this series will drive me insane...im just crossing my fingers we wont have to wait long.

The book starts out so bleak & sad..the pain the heroine suffers, the way the people she thought of as family turned their backs on her, was pathetic...I had my moments I seriously wished I could beat the ever loving crap out of the bastards....the best part though, is it gets better & better & better as you read through this story...I cant wait to read more about the other characters...their is a cliff hanger in the end, its not a bad one though...the hero & heroine of this story get there HEA, so no worries their...Gypsy,Tiny,Rain & the rest the fantastic peeps in the book need their HEA as well..

Best parts...the Hero is he is awesome Hot! Dreamy in all ways that count...The heroine is strong & has a beautiful compassionate heart! even after all the hell shes endured in her abusive life...the author did a completely fantastic job cramming so much into a short story, that will leave you sighing in the end...will definitely be re-reading this book & purchasing in paperback as well..

If you’re looking for an Alpha male biker who’s hot as hell and has an equally as hot girlfriend then you’ve found the right book. This book was a typical biker book, some violence, really hot sexy times and the requisite chick with a banging body. It was a quick and fast read; my only complaint was the heroine. Okay, I understand that you were emotionally, physically and almost sexually abused but did you have to be so negative all the time and so damn needy. She kept on thinking the hero was only in it for short term even though he more than showed her with actions that she was it from him. Another example of her always thinking the worst, she calls her man to tell him some big news and his old skank answers, what does she do she goes into an almost catatonic state crying and sniveling instead of cursing the bitch out and demanding that she put her man on the phone. My gosh! at this point I wanted the hero to leave her trifling ass. Another time she told the hero that when she left town if he cheated on her that it would hurt but wasn’t a deal breaker, WOMAN THE HELL UP!!!!!!!!! and get some self- respect why don’t ya. In what gat damn world does she live in that gives a man permission to cheat. I wish a man would cheat on me and I found out you’ll see what would happen. One more thing that I hate in books are chicks that are described as beautiful and hot and don’t know it, Yea right!!!! Even after all of tiny complaints, I did like this book and definitely want to read Gypsy and Tiny’s books

Good biker romance.

The heroine had a bit of a weak, passive personality which made her boring.

The hero was more interesting, but I felt like he jumped from not even contemplating a relationship with the heroine to BAM! deciding she was the one for him and he wanted her always.

The best character was Tiny, the heroine's childhood best friend and fellow MC brother to the hero. I would really like to read a book about him. Also, I'd like to read a book about Gypsy.

There was some drama, but I would've liked more MC crime-related drama. Or maybe just if the author had inserted scenes showing the hero roughing people up or murdering, that'd have been great.

I read an MC romance review the other day where the reader was upset that the hero was a criminal (a pet peeve of hers) . . . well, DUH!

Living the Motorcycle Club life is all about brotherhood, loyalty, and family. Oh, and you cannot forget the drama. One day, you are enjoying a BBQ with your family; the next you are shunned from the compound. Santana can attest to this when her world falls apart once her father goes to prison. The only life she has ever known is ripped away from her, along with her knight on shining chrome, Stake.

I have read my fair share of MC romances and I have to admit that some fall short whether it's in the romance part or in the parts of the MC life. Some find it hard to have the right combination of romance and a touch of the darkness that surrounds the club. It is often decided to either go dark or keep it to light; not many have the ability for a happy medium. Carol Lynne did a great job with The Cut.

Although, I sometimes have problems with big age differences especially if one party saw the younger one grow up. With this novel it wasn’t too bad because Santana was much more mature than other kids that ran around the compound. I loved how even though so many people put down Santana and believed she was trash because of her parents, she had an unbreakable spirit. Stake was a hard character to love because he was always on the fence with his loyalty and his need for his lil bug. I was happy when he got his act together by realizing Santana was his future and his loyalty should lie with her.

There was a perfect dose of heat, sweetness, and drama to make a great story. All the characters were enjoyable to read. Mmmm Tiny. I hope Miss Lynne decides to write his story. I also cannot wait to read about Rain and Gypsy. There were also jerk characters that balanced out the good like Gordon, Robbie and even Cecil. Overall, it was a great start to a for sure interesting series. So looking forward to the next novel.

I was given a copy of this book as a gift from The JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say this is the first MC book I've read where the club actually turns their back on a members family, because they were threatened with exposure. Usually threats like that are handled by putting the person in the ground, but this club decided to turn their backs on poor Santana and let her fend for herself after witnessing the horrible upbringing she had with her abusive father and alcoholic mother. That was a shitty thing to do. She went from having a relative happy childhood amongst the club members, to being on her own, taking care of her sick, invalid mother, getting beat up and sexually harassed by the local cops and getting shunned and looked down on from the entire town while the club went about their merry business...

Despite it being her mother's doing, Santana was right to feel unwanted and uncomfortable among the club and its members, they did nothing to help her, they did nothing to stand up for her, except Stake and it took him ten years to get his head out of his ass and do the right thing. He was a good man though, did everything he could to keep her safe, make her happy. Plus he was faithful, big bonus in my book, he didn't subject himself to the club life and ruin his relationship with Santana. She was an emotional mess but she deserved to be after everything that poor girl went through, I was just hoping that after a while she would grow a backbone and start standing up for herself instead of waiting for Stake or others to do it for her. So it was disappointing that that never happened..

Overall, it was a good read and I look forward to the next book in this series...

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the start of a new series, and so there is a degree of world-building, but nothing too intrusive. And although any MC reader will get the picture quite quickly, there are some interesting relationships which affect the dynamics of the club. I am looking forward to future installments, as there are a number of ways that things can progress.

I liked Santana, and her situation makes more sense once the mystery of her current banishment from the MC is revealed. And whilst Stake seems to have been her protector, he certainly hasn't fulfilled that role of late. However he, and her other childhood friend step up at last, and we get a rich story of MC politics, mistakes and ultimately, love. As the passion is unleashed, and the relationship between Santana and Stake develops, it is difficult to see how it will work out, but Ms Lynne does not let us down.

*sighs very loudly because this type of book is a bad trend Im seeing in MC books

Over dramatic and over the top with too much thrown at you. With only 190 or so pages I wasn't surprised that the book went a bit fast but that's no excuse tbh. I've read plenty of stories that long that were paced well and written just as well too. Too much information was thrown at you ALL THE TIME. The characters were constantly talking, constantly telling other characters stuff that happened in the past or being so damn chatty when there was no need for it.

Everything escalated way too quickly and the pay off wasn't even that good.

I'm seeing that books like these are becoming an annoying normality: very little substance, too much drama, too much information, and too fast pacing. People need to learn to slow down and tell a good story, not throw a bunch of shit at us in the hopes we'll over look the lack of talent their in writing by making everything more dramatic.

Omg Stake is def a new fave biker for me...he's hot, alpha, possessive, he goes after what he wants there's no stopping him..

Santana hasn't had a good life..her family gave her a life of hell...then she lost the only person that made life bearable Stake!!!... she's shunned by the small town she lives in..her life's been nothing but pain..

But a chance meeting with Stake and her life goes in a whole different direction one she never thought would ever be possible... Cue some very hot sexy time...a rough and tough biker who shows her his sweet side and life has never looked better.. But with so many issues thrown there way will they survive it all and get there happy ending???

Carol Lynne your truly awesome...your writing is amazing..lady you have some serious skills... 4.5 well deserved stars only missed out on 5 as I wanted more, I can't wait for book #2

The reasoning the Hero gave about why he and the club stayed away from the heroine, ESP when she was in dire straits was very very weak. < spoiler> The heroines mother says she'll blackmail the club f they don't stay away from her and the daughter she doesn't give two fucks about...aka the heroine....but seriously? A bunch of big bad bikers can't find a way to outsmart a mean bitchy drunk? And apparently the cared so much about the heroine, they didn't even bother keeping an eye out for her....even if they had to do it on the sly, really? Yeah, no, it really didn't work IMO and that made the rest of the book a bit less enjoyable, IMO. On the plus side it was a better MC book I've come across even though the H was technically a criminal ( a pet peeve of mine).

2.5 stars.

I really liked this book and I'm excited for the next one. Very likeable characters and the storyline kept me engaged from beginning to end. I can't wait for Gypsy's story and I'm hoping that one is next. Also looking forward to hopefully reading books on some of the other side characters like Tiny and Digger.

I've never heard of this author before and stumbled upon it while looking for a good biker book. After reading the author's face page, I realized she writes mainly M/M erotica, which this book is not. I must say, for stepping out of her "norm" she did a fantastic job and hope she continues with more F/M series especially this one! While M/M is not my preferred read, this series is simply fantastic and I will definitely be watching for more from Ms. Lynne!

I love me a biker story and this one was a beautiful story of a love that went through its stages. Stake is such a sweetheart and tried to protect Santana as much as he could. Santana grew up idolising Stake and even after she had everyone from her life growing up with a biker club deserting her she always still loved Stake. When she finally found out the true reason behind why those close to her deserted her I think it made the pain a little easier for her. Santana went through a lot when she had to fend for herself but when Stake finally found his way back to her he knew there was no walking away again. I love a big bad tough biker dude that can be a soft gently giant with his woman and even more to the fact that no other woman compares once he's found his love of his life.

I really liked this book. Most of her books are m/m, so the handful of books that she has written that are m/f, I've read and loved them all. This is no exception. It's not so much about the mc life but more to do with the couple. It takes place when Santana was a teen then leads to the present. It gives you the basics of how they know each other and the kind of live she has had up until now. This was more of a romance with a lot of suspense. It was a great read. I read this in one sitting. I really hope she gives us more of this mc. She did leave it open for what will hopefully be Gypsy and Raine's story next.

Another MC series. This one started out really sad. I realize there are kids who have bad childhoods, but not only were Santana’s parents selfish, her mom cut her off from the only “family” she’d ever known (including the man who held her heart and didn’t know it) when her father was killed. Eventually, Stake came back, though he was almost too late. (And how sad was the meaning behind HIS name??) I’ll probably have to keep watch for the next one of this series… the author teased the next couple in the series and I think it’ll be a goodie.

Really enjoyed this one. I loved MC books with alpha males and struggling heroines and this one fits that bill. Characters were likeable and empathetic. Story was descriptive enough without having too much boring narrative. I just wish it hadn't ended the way it did. There is a HEA - no major cliffhanger but there is some stuff that wasn't "tied up". I can only assume that's because Santana and Stake will show up in the next book of the series to answer those questions.

I didn't have many expectations going into this, but I really enjoyed it. It was pretty light on the MC side of things, most of the story centred around the two main characters, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the book at all. There is a large-ish age gap between Stake and Santana, but it really isn't noticeable - they interact as equals. Will definitely look out for the next in the series.

I have enjoyed every book I have read by this author. I really felt for the characters. It wasn't a "everything is sweet and wonderful" kind of story. I prefer a story that has the characters dealing with real type issues. I like to see them handle the problems and come out stronger for it. I really can't wait for the next book in this series.
