RESCUE. DANGER. DEVOTION. THIS TIME, THEIR HEARTS ARE ON THE LINE.
She was born to fight fires...
When Tori Mitchell said goodbye to the handsome stranger after their heart-stopping dance on her last night of freedom, she never expected him to wind up on the same Midnight Sun elite smokejumper team. Now the two rookies are on the run through the Alaska backcountry, chased by militia men intent on stopping the wildlands firefighters. Forced to rely on each other, Tori has to ignore the sparks between them if they're going to stay alive. Otherwise that spark will turn into a flame neither of them can put out.
He's got something to prove...
Born into a family legacy of firefighting, Orion Price is determined to prove his worth up in Alaska. One explosive evening on the dance floor with Tori threatens the only shot he has to step out of the shadow of his mistakes. He's going to take this shot to show his family—and himself—that he can be the man they believe he is. Orion won't risk his heart, even if survival in an isolated community means faking a relationship with Tori.
Brace yourself for a high-octane, heart-pounding, inspirational thrill ride filled with real-life heroism, searing romantic suspense, and the restorative power of unrelenting grace.

“The legacy that is most worth achieving is a life surrendered to God.”
Michelle Sass Aleckson writes to explore the idea that sometimes we can save ourselves simply by admitting we need help. Both Orion Price and Tori Mitchell discover that trust is difficult, surrender is even harder, but trying to rely on their own abilities and achievements wouldn’t save them in time. Orion and Tori need rescuing, figuratively and literally. Can they set aside their competitiveness and past baggage to rely on each other and their team for survival?
Ever feel like a book is written specifically for you? I needed to learn the same lessons as these smokejumpers and appreciated an examination of surrender, God’s timing, redemption, grace and the importance of prayer. If you struggle with your independence and question God’s ability to help you, this might be one you should consider reading. If you and a loved one have different ideas about surrendering to a higher power, this is definitely one you should read. Aleckson chips away at her characters’ resoluteness and brings them to a place of surrender. It’s a beautiful, beautiful thing to see. Why do we fight against it?
My takeaway: “He might be the answer to the prayer I didn’t even know how to pray.” God knows what we need, when we need it, and how to deliver the first aid. Who am I to question?
The romantic tension was well balanced with the faith thread, and the adrenaline-fuelled rush and lessons for my heart kept me flipping pages. I loved the interaction with the off-grid community and how that, despite initiating my spidey senses, contributed to the perfect environment to enable surrender. So many escape to Alaska thinking it’ll solve their problems. Orion and Tori discover they can’t outrun God and Alaska is just where they need to be for Him to work in their hearts.
I love this series!
I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Some escapes are about survival. Others are about surrender.
In Burning Escape, danger comes fast, but it’s the internal ache … the weight of expectations, the fear of being known, the cracks in faith … that burns hotter than any wildfire. Tori’s past won’t let her rest. Orion’s legacy won’t let him breathe. And yet, the further they run, the more clearly they see: they’re not outrunning fire. They’re being pursued by grace.
“… he wanted her to know God’s grace. To experience it herself.” That line stopped me cold. Because isn’t that the best kind of love? The kind that longs for someone else to taste God’s goodness … even when they can’t see it, don’t believe it, or feel too broken to reach for it? A love that doesn’t push or preach, but quietly fights for your healing. That’s the kind of love Orion offers. And it’s the kind that reflects the heart of Christ.
And then this truth: “A good relationship … should help you grow in your faith.” That’s it. That’s what a truly good relationship is all about … not ego, not selfishness, not filling a void. It points you closer to the One who never fails. Watching Tori embrace this felt raw and real. The kind of shift that can only happen when truth meets grace in the middle of the fire.
But maybe the most lingering line for me…one that whispered long after the danger passed…was this: “The legacy that is most worth achieving is a life surrendered to God.” Not performance. Not proving. Not perfection. Just a steady surrender to Jesus.
This story pulses with action, yes; but what I’ll remember is the ache of healing, the flicker of hope, and the way grace kept chasing through every mile. Burning Escape reminds us that the safest place to run is straight into the arms of Jesus who gave laid down His life for us so that we could live!
I received a digital version of this book from the publisher. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. What an exciting adventure in the third installment of the Chasing Fire: Alaska series. Burning Escape follows Orion and Tori after they get separated from the rest of their team near the end of Burning Hearts and must elude the militia. Tori is leery about trusting Christ personally because of her backstory. Orion has to learn what it means to surrender to God. Filled with nonstop action, this story also has a stalker, a commune, danger, rivalry, suspense, and faith threads and will keep your attention from start to end. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Loved it! What an exciting adventure with a sweet hero there to prove himself, and a strong heroine looking to belong. (Loved the dedication: "To those who long for home, a place to belong. May you know the love God has for you and find the shelter in the shadow of His wings.") "Well, okay then. Nothing quite said "Welcome to Alaska" like a beautiful woman falling into his arms." I love how they meet. Too bad it was over before it started. Orion Price is such a sweet guy.
Tori Mitchell and Orion Price end up on the smoke jumpers crew in Alaska. They get separated from the rest of their crew as they all had to abandon their plane. They find themselves on the run from militia men who downed their plane and want to kill them.
Tori doesn't believe in God and has fear and trust issues from her past and Orion must learn how to surrender to God.
Page-turning, nonstop action, including a commune, danger, competition, suspense, a stalker, and well-paced faith moments. I highly recommend Burning Escape by Michelle Sass Aleckson for romantic suspense lovers, and for those who love to read series. This can be read as a standalone, but I am totally loving the whole series!
Burning Escape, book 3 in the Chasing Fire: Alaska series is well written, fast paced, edge of your seat and unputdownable suspense that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. This clean romantic suspense is the story of Orion Price and Tori Mitchell, both working to get the same job on the Midnight Sun smokejumper team. Orion and Tori face obstacles that made me hold my breath waiting for what might happen next. I highly recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher for an ARC of this book. The opinions expressed here are mine.
Full of action, suspense, and rising danger, Burning Escape was impossible to put down. I loved it!
Orion and Tori are both rookie smokejumpers, and both of them have a lot to prove. They’ve put a lot of pressure on themselves, both for different reasons. Despite their sweet first meeting and amazing chemistry, there was a lot preventing them from being together. Separated from the rest of their team and with the militia hot on their heels, they have to work together to make it back to camp.
I loved seeing Orion’s strong faith. While Tori wasn’t a believer, I enjoyed watching her journey of discovering it.
This is my favorite installment of the series yet! I’m so excited for the next one! If you're a fan of exciting, faith-filled romantic suspense, I highly recommend it! I’d definitely recommend reading this series in order, though.
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
Relatable characters in perilous situations. This story starts with an interesting meet cute and then drops readers in the middle of fire season - and at the mercy of anti-government militia.
Tori has emotional wounds and so much self-doubt. The things she faces are enough to shake her - so she reaches for faith. That seemed almost too easy.
Orion’s another nearly perfect male lead, which made him hard to relate to. While I totally bought his motivation, it didn’t drive him the same way Tori’s did, meaning I wasn’t as engaged in his half of the story.
The romance is instant attraction that’s choked off by competition. But sometime’s there’s no use denying what seems inevitable.
I don’t know if this story moved the series mystery forward. There was enough going on in this installment that I didn’t really think about that, and instead, enjoyed the ride as Tori and Orion learned to trust God and their teammates.
Burning Escape by Lisa Phillips and Michelle Sass Aleckson shares the same climactic moments as Burning Hearts and Burning Rivals but from a different couples' perspective. The story shows a little more heart in the characters then in the previous additions. What I mean is that readers will actually have the opportunity for this couple to reach out and help others beside trying to save themselves. The action is moving forward in the plot at all times. Readers will enjoy returning the Alaskan wilderness. This time around, Aleckson throws in a community of people that were not mentioned in the previous two stories. Of course, with all the novels in this series, there is a hint of romance between the two. I really liked that the romance did not take the front seat over the suspense. It flows naturally in the shadow of the suspense elements, which I extremely liked. Overall, Burning Escape by Lisa Phillips and Michelle Sass Aleckson packs a punch with the heart and romance but allows the suspense to take the side road to the overall plot.
I received a complimentary copy of Burning Escape by Lisa Phillips and Michelle Sass Aleckson through Sunrise Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Such a hard book to put down, I loved this book so much I was able to read it in one day.
This is the third book in the “Chasing Alaska” series and one you do not want to miss or skip.
Victoria doesn’t believe in grace nor does she believe in God. Orion is trying to prove that he is a man and full grown adult, perfectly capable of taking care of himself.
Both are vying for the same spot in their occupations. Will Victoria see her need for God? Will Orion fulfill his goal?
The excitement and adventure of being a fire fighter in Alaska never ends. Both Orion and Tori are hoping to become smoke jumpers - will they have what it takes?
Shots fired and the run from the militia begins again. Rescued by a commune, will Orion and Tori bring danger to their new friends? The action just doesn’t let up. Add a fire that might burn their community and Tori begins to wonder if her past is catching up with her. Can she finally learn to trust that God and know personally that His grace will take care of her and bring her home?
A copy of Chasing Fire Alaska #3 was received through Sunrise Publishing and BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Christian Romantic Suspense | Wildfire Rescue | Found Family | Fake Dating | Second Chances
Burning Escape is another heart-racing win in the Chasing Fire: Alaska series, and it might just be my favorite yet! Tori and Orion’s story is packed with everything I love—action, tension, faith, and swoony moments that made me grin like crazy. The backdrop of Alaska’s rugged wilderness adds an extra thrill as the danger closes in and the fake dating trope turns into something real neither of them expected.
As someone who devoured Orion’s parents’ story in the Chasing Fire series last summer, this book felt like such a full-circle moment. I loved seeing past characters pop up and watching the bigger storyline continue to unfold. The mix of high-stakes firefighting, heartfelt faith themes, and undeniable chemistry made this one hard to put down.
If you love stories with adrenaline-pumping action, deep character growth, and clean but electric romance—add this series to your TBR immediately!
Thank you to Sunrise publishing for the ARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Burning Escape is the fourth book I have read by Michelle Sass Aleckson, and she has become a must-read author for me. It is the third book in the Chasing Fire: Alaska series, which each book can be read as a stand-alone, but so far, the series has been addicting, I have been skipping the TV and reading these books instead. So, if you want to dive into a great adventure, check out the Chasing Fire: Alaska series or any of the other related series, you will not be disappointed.
The character development was good. Tori has a lot of layers to unpack. Learning to trust others and trust God. I loved getting to check back in on Orion and see what he is up to. He is off in Alaska trying to prove himself, not just riding on his grandpa's or parents’ coattails.
The storyline and setting were perfect. Up in Alaska, fighting fires is a fun place to be for the day. We start with the perfect meeting, thinking that they will never see each other again. The next day they come face to face fighting for the same smoke-jumping slot. Having to work as a team. We find ourselves once again encountering the militia. While trying to get away they find themselves in a community and the only way to try to get through seems to be to pretend they are married. This book is action-packed and kept me on my toes.
The fake relationship to more is the perfect fit for this story. The romance aspect is low-spice, kisses only, and perfect.
Michelle Sass Aleckson did a great job intertwining faith throughout the book. It was a great reminder that letting go and leaning into God is the best place to be.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
Tori Mitchell and Orion Price are both smokejumpers in Alaska. Due to a fallout smokejumper both made the cut to make the team. Tori has had a rough life before making the smokejumpers and Orion has his own demons that bother him. Will Orion's strong faith help pull both of them through the dark places that smoke jumping pulls them into as well as the ups and sown of their lives?
Aleckson is a new to me author but she did an excellent job taking part in the series created by Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips. Both the main characters were well drawn and very realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the Smokejumpers worked together as well as taking care of one another. I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Michelle Sass Aleckson's latest novel lives up to the hype.
Burning Escape is an epic adventure with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Once again it opens where Burning Rivals leaves off, and if you haven't read the earlier stories in this series, I would highly recommend reading them first.
Orion and Tori were awesome! There were so many great individual storylines yet somehow Michelle has woven them into a highly intriguing story, without them becoming overwhelming. I really enjoyed this story and I'm glad that both Tori and Orion got their own moment.
Forgiveness, redemption and finding Jesus all are prominent themes through Burning Escape, and if you enjoy action-packed Christian romantic suspense then you'll love Burning Escape.
I received a complimentary copy from Sunrise Publishing. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Owen and Tori go on a wild ride. Their one night "date" turn fake marriage then to actual relationship the passion burns bright between them. I just wish there would have been more time spent with Tori's spiritual journey. Still a heart pounding story with plenty of twists. Would totally recommend for your TBR.
Burning Escape was another fast paced segment in a suspenseful series filled with adventure and characters you will grow to move.
I loved watching Tori and Orion, both strong independent characters who felt they had something to proof, learn they can achieve more when they rely on their team members.
I like how each book in the series has their own storyline, but linked with an high level one which we learn more about after each book.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
Burning Escape grips the reader right from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the end.
Orion Price and Tori Mitchell get separated from the rest of their smokejumper team and are thrown into danger. They need to work together to get back to their team while battling injuries, danger, and attraction. Just when you think Orion and Tori are safe the action picks right back up.
This book contains action, adventure, romance, and strong faith elements.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher. My opinions are my own.
another hot suspense with wonderful characters and a great location - Alaska. Join the smoke jumpers as they race against time and fire. Worth the read. This book was provided by Sunrise Publishing. the opinions expressed here are my own thoughts.
I couldn't put this book down! I'm so thankful that I can live vicariously through the characters in books.
Orion and Tori have so much chemistry but so much standing between them. There are so many possible villains in the story and so much criminal activity that the reader gets pulled into the story.
Even though the Refuge was a little different, I loved the community there and how they worked so hard for each other.
The element of faith that ran throughout the story was so refreshing. The author did a great job of expressing the faith of the characters without the story getting "preachy".
Thanks to Sunrise Publishing for the arc. The opinions are my own
This was another thrilling installment in this Christian Romantic Suspense series. Taking off where book 1 left off, we follow Orion and Tori as they have an adventure full of injuries and a journey towards faith. Orion is from Montana and we’ve read his parents’ second chance romance. In this book he gets the smallest of second chances with Tori. Tori has secrets in her past and shame that she carries. When her past seems to collide with her present of militia in Alaska, things get more dangerous. Orion and Tori are forced into a fake marriage to try to keep each other safe when they are stranded in the wilderness. This book has a large amount of suspense as we are strung along on the series wide mystery. I love the Alaskan wilderness setting. This was a great read and I can’t wait until the next one is available! This is a just kisses romance.
I received an eARC of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
An adventure in the Alaskan wilderness with smoke jumping wildfire firefighters. This Christian suspense will give you all the feels with the family dynamic between the firefighters and the push and pull between Tori and Orion while keeping you on the edge of your seat with the suspense wondering what is going to come next. Once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down until you have finished it!
*note - definitely recommend reading this series in order
I received an ARC from the publisher and all opinions are my own.
Awesome book from beginning to end! I truly enjoy reading anything Michelle writes and this book was no exception. Loved reading Orion and Tori’s story as they navigate the wilds of Alaska and a fake marriage to get back to base and the rest of their crew. Can’t wait for the next one!
Orion and Tori have been caught up in a mess since the first book. As they escape the militia and fight to get back to the smokejumper base, they find themselves dealing with some unexpected things. There was one thing in this book that I didn't feel was wrapped up, but it was still a good book.
I received an ARC copy of this book. All opinion expressed are my own.
Burning escape is the perfect title for this book as the two main characters are on the run for their lives, not only from fire, but from the militia group who seems intent on wiping out the smoke jumpers and anyone else in gets in their way.
This is book 3 in the Chasing Fire Alaska series, and the two main characters in this story are my favorites so far. I like all of the characters in this series, but there was just something about these two that made me a little sad as they both battled their own personal demons, but also joyful once they worked through their issues.
Tori Mitchell has some horrible demons from her past. She wants to leave all of that behind. She has no interest in romance, nor any interest in God, as she feels God left her when she needed Him most. She is driven and single minded in her purpose to be the best smoke jumper in this elite unit.
Orion Price feels like he has something to prove as well. He wants to earn his spot because of his abilities, not because of his family heritage. He feels his faith is strong, but his determination to do it all on his own has hindered his relationship with God. He needs surrender as well, just a different kind of surrender.
Dodging bullets, nursing wounds and living in an off the grid compound while healing and trying to find their way back home, may be just exactly what Tori and Orion needed. One of my favorite scenes was when Tori admitted her fear of the dark. This quote is from that scene when she finally surrenders her will. "Light and peace flooded her body and soul, and for the first time she could remember, she slept without fear." The peace that passes all understanding was never more true than in this scene.
The mystery of the militia is really ramping up, and it seems we are getting close to finding some answers. This book was action packed with very little down time. Even when they were in the compound, seemingly safe, I was a little tense wondering where this was going to lead. This book deserves a whopping five stars without a doubt.
Thank you to Sunrise Publishers. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Strap on your harnesses, adventure reader junkies, because Burning Escape takes the Alaskan frontier to a whole new level - literally! From smokejumping to historic life off-grid, Orion and Tori see it all in this new book from Aleckson and Warren.
I love the sweet beginning and the honest naivete at the opening, and while the story maintains that in many ways, it also gets down and dirty as the bad guys approach - and there's a lot of sheer fun in that.
It's also great to see how so many Warren characters are intertwined. You don't have to have read the other stories to understand this one (though you will certainly get more enjoyment and understanding out of a few conversations) but if you have, you can see how the big picture and the Warren-verse is fitting together. Personally, I'm here for that: it means more stories, deeper lessons, more characters with world-saving adventures, and I want it all.
I love the contrast between Orion's heart for helping and Tori's quest to make a difference, because while they sound similar on the surface, there are important differences there. The depth of those lessons make this story applicable to any one of us - from the longtime Christian to simple adventure junkie - but they are meaningful and real, and I particularly needed to hear them.
So if you like action stories, don't sit on this one - grab Burning Escape today. It's the perfect summer - dare I say it? - bookish escape.
I received a complimentary copy of Burning Escape. All opinions are my own.
“He helped her stand and then swept her up into his arms. The movies made it look a lot easier.”
The Chasing Fire: Alaska series is on fire. With each new book that comes out the stakes get higher! Burning Escape by Michelle Sass Aleckson, is the latest to come out in the series and it did not disappoint!
I loved getting to read about Tori and Orion! They quickly became some of my favorite characters. Tori is no nonsense and trying to follow her dreams. Whereas Orion knows how to let loose. But don’t let that fool ya! Orion is great at covering up the pressure of trying to live up to the family legacy. They need each other to survive a crash plane and on the run from the militia that’s been chasing them and their team from book one.
My favorite part of this book has to be the fake marriage and the chemistry between Tori and Orion. I haven’t read a lot of fake marriage trope books but this one was well done. The chemistry between Tori and Orion had me cheering for the couple to admit their feelings to each other from the start. But at last we probably wouldn’t have a story if that happened.
Burning Escape is a quick read. It is part of a series and you’ll definitely what to read the other books in the series so you’ll understand the overall plot of the series.
These thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks Sunrise Publishing for the ARC.
This is going to be my favorite of the series! It definitely deserves six stars!
Michelle has such a beautiful way of weaving faith into her stories and I absolutely loved both Orion and Tori's faith journeys in this book. Especially since Orion has been such an example of strong faith throughout this series, it was nice to see him as a human too who still struggles.
Orion was such a handsome hero too! I love his protective nature and I loved how he both saw Tori's strength on her own while also being the protector she needed. It was also so inspiring the way he helped her and guided her toward faith while waiting to act on his feelings until he knew they held the same faith. That's really hard to do and it made me admire Orion even more.
Tori was a powerhouse! I was so inspired by her determination to develop her own strength and confidence in herself. I also loved seeing her reach out, not only to Orion, but to God. It was such an amazing journey and so impactful to see her new faith growing throughout the second half of the novel.
Overall, this was a perfect balance of mystery, romance and faith. I love Michelle's writing and I get excited every time I see her name on a book from Sunrise. I cannot wait for the next book of series and I cannot wait for Michelle's next book!
OOOH, book 3 of Chasing Fire Alaska caught me quick and kept me reading. This book basically takes place at the same time as book 1 but follows the adventures that Orion and Tori find themselves on. They have survived jumping out of a plane that was crashing. But will they survive the task of getting back to base camp? The ATV riding militia are after them and they need to get to safety fast. But that is not as easy as it may sound. Let's just say that surviving the jump from the plane was the easiest part of their journey. I liked that the lessons learned by Orion and Tori were completely different and ones that some would say are “basic knowledge”. And by that, I mean lessons we all, or at least me, have struggled with and have had to learn. Life lessons that everyone can understand and need. And through it all God's grace shows up again and again. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the publisher with no obligation to give it a positive review. The thoughts in this review are my own. I have already suggested this book to friends. Its a very good read.
