Must-read for anyone going into missions. Among many other concepts it really hits the nail on the head as far as knowing what is hurtful vs effective in the field and how our American culture has trained us to be especially hurtful in our motive to help.
I’m glad I read it after hearing several sermons on it. Although great points are made, it’s definitely paralyzing for the average person. I do hope churches and seminaries are discussing constantly, but this book makes me feel unqualified to help others effectively. I will continue to look for my ways to get involved and help, but will pray that others will continue to develop ways for me to help others.
Fantastic book. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for helping the poor. A brilliant practical guide that leads the reader through the biblical basis for effective poverty alleviation. The authors remind the reader of their own brokenness and highlight the imperative need to approach poverty alleviation with humility. I plan to lend this book to everyone I know who is interested in international development and then everyone at church and then anyone else I can get to read it!
A wonderful resource. I throughly enjoyed reading this book and am inspired to research more of the topics within the book as well work through the group study booklet. I bought this book to better assist others in a tough spot. I learnt so much more. Well worth the read
