This was a quick read. Very classy and well written. The characters were easy to follow and a good story line. All girls want are for men to love them, cherish them, and if you love God, want a man to love Him too! This book showed two different kind of men, which one will Lauren chose in the end? Justin - The one who is her boss, but she has a crush on and finds out that he likes women and will cheat? or Andrew - the Godly one who wants the same thing - the restaurant?
Pretty good book I like it because it's short Characters are good Lessons learned about forgiveness was also very good a good book to read for light reading
This is a Christian romance, but the heroine is deceptive and manipulative, not the way to act at any time, especially when you're trying to find a Godly man. Fortunately, God and the hero forgive.
This novella was bland, predictable, and laughable. Though I'm not a fan, I gave it to two stars for being a Christian read. However, I'm still confused on what a "Provers 31 MAN" is.
Short novella-perfect for when I want to read a little something before bed, but not so long that I DON'T go to bed at all.... Lauren's dream is to buy an Italian restaurant on the Oregon coast and run it. She's been saving up and made an offer and then someone outbid her. She doesn't have the funds to go higher, but her life doesn't stop. She meets a man named Andrew and they go out. Then the story really begins.
I chose this brief read because of its interesting synopsis. What I failed to realize is that I have read it before. I had already read a few pages before I knew this, so I continued on anyway. I liked the plot and the characters. Overall, it is a pretty good read. However, I like a lot of Ms MacBride's books/stories anyway.
Lovely written story of love and life's circumstances
So true to life of the struggles we all face; our own sometimes selfish desires, loneliness, impatience for God to answer. A lovely written story. Couldn't put it down until I do finished it.
A cute story enough that I’m going to read the next sisters story. I would like to see a little more character development and detail. I like the clean, Christian parts that remind us of Our need for God in our lives.
This book was delightful. It was cleaning honest and dealing with relationships on the mess that we get ourselves in when we make the wrong choice and walk outside of God's path.
Clearly a Christian author. I have read over two hundred books in the last two years and this is one of the best with all the Christian values. This is the only review I have ever made. I will recommend this to be read by my high school great granddaughter!
First time reading this Author and I absolutely loved it. I couldn’t put it down.
Just what I’ve been looking for sweet and comforting just good for my soul. I’ve been wanting to read more clean Christian romance books and this author nailed it. Will start the second book tomorrow (12-28-25).
I admit there was a part of the book where I did cry. Even though there are a few typos it is an amazing book that shows how it you wait God's timing is always perfect.
This was such a cute story. I love that Lauren and Andrew were able to work it out and came together. I hope the other girls in the series are able to find love as well.
At the beginning of the story, we are presented with the heroine, Lauren, who wants to buy an Italian Restaurant and discovers that someone else has out-bidden her. She wants it so bad that she is willing to tell a white lie and resort to some amount of deception to have it. The only problem is that the person she's deceiving happens to be God's answer to her prayers for a life partner. Talk about conflicting desires! Throw in a very attractive boss with less than Christian objectives, and the story has all the ingredients for a romance.
Choices of the Heart presents a very human heroine whom a lot of readers should be able to identify with. The hero, Andrew, is a good guy who's willing to give up his dream for the heroine. Now who doesn't love a man who'd step aside so you can live your dream?
A few things didn't quite work for me, though. First of all, the hero and heroine do not have a real relationship until the very end of the story, so they work through their conflicts separately, seeking advise from their respective siblings in their journey to each other. This also means we do not see the hero and heroine together on the page often, which made it difficult for me to really buy into their romance. The story also seems to only scratch the surface of the plot points. Because the story is a Christian romance, and therefore has no sex scenes, the author could have used this as an opportunity to explore her characters and their issues deeply and created emotional tension. e.g. (SPOILER ALERT) when the hero discovers the heroine's deception, he is understandably angry for her betrayal, but he doesn't put up a fight, which makes him seem a little like a pushover. A little more of his POV may have fixed this.
All of that being said, I found Choices of the Heart to be a quick read and pleasant enough. Not bad for a debut novel! I would consider reading the second book in the series (of which the author generously provides a sneak peek).
It's been a really long time since I've read a Christian romance, so going into this, I did my best to throw out preconceived notions based on other books I read and look at it like any other book and I'm so glad I did.
There are times in some stories where it feels as though the author is shoving God down your throat and I didn't get that here at all. In fact, I think one of the things I liked most about this book is that while it was based around faith, it also showed that even Christians falter and make mistakes. Choices that aren't always the right ones and can have less than stellar consequences. This book was real to me because of this so my hats off to the author for that.
I enjoyed the romance between the main characters, but I also took a lot away from the family dynamic here. It was a strong one and just touched my heart seeing a family of sisters that close.
I don't normally pick at editing because as a writer myself, I've seen my own errors in final copies and focusing on that seems to take away from the overall story that's being told, but there was a couple of instances in this that I couldn't ignore, which is why this book isn't a 5* for me. Andrew's name popping up when it should have been Justin stood out a lot because the minute I saw it, I had to go back and make sure I didn't skip a page. It threw me off completely. There were one or two other moments like that throughout, but not enough to drive me away from the story completely.
All in all this was a sweet read. I will definitely be picking up book two in this series.
This series was simply okay. I gave them 3 stars, 3 stars, 2 stars, and 3 stars. Honestly, I felt that was quite generous. The camaraderie between the sisters was nice, but could have been utilized better.
In each book, the lead character is a little pious and frustrating, especially in book 3. None of the romances were very believable. In each case, the guy is completely enamoured almost instantly. There is very little growth in each of the sisters, or it not truly believable. In each case, the story gets wrapped up in a nice bow with no real meat or addressing of issues. They talk the talk but seem quite absorbed with themselves. Again, especially in book 3. At least with book 4, narcissism and abuse are addressed. Well, sort of.
I was really hoping for a lot more from this series.
Lauren is a young dental hygienist, but has always dreamed of owning her own restaurant. When a long-time local restaurant comes up for sale, she tries to buy it, but finds out someone else has placed a higher bid. Lauren then catches her boyfriend cheating . Everything seems to be going downhill and Lauren has all but given up. She continues to ask God for guidance, but will things ever work out?
This is a short Christian story that kept my interest through the end. I would recommend this to anybody looking for a short love story. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Choices of the Heart starts on New Year's Day when Lauren meets Andrew at her sister's Megan's New Year's Day Party. It is instant attraction between these two strong Christians but Lauren acts selfishly and set a series of misunderstandings into motion. Andrew and Lauren both have to learn to leave Choices of the Heart in God's hands and it takes a year for them to get it right but don't you just love happy endings.
A lovely read. I found Lauren to be delightfully flawed. Claiming to be a Christian, but not always doing things in the Christian fashion (at least according to her). But she finds her way eventually.
A real relationship didn’t happen between Lauren and Andrew until the end of the book. In the meantime they dealt with a lot of drama from the workplace, relationships they were in with other people, and their family.
I love the Proverbs 31 woman but am unsure of the Proverbs 31 man! Megan seems a well grounded character but Lauren is fickle, manipulative and not able to act how she believes she should. Story inconsistencies (Lauren Fisher at one point) and changes of tense make this an awkward read. Great idea for a story but poorly edited, rushed and too much emphasis on a spouse making you whole instead of God.
I can't rate this because this is the opposite of what I read and I was only reading for funsies /tweeting fodder. However, from a pure analytical perspective, there are a lot of missing words and other continuity errors. This book could have definitely used an editor.
