Lady Portia Flagstaff has been kidnapped by a man pretending to be the love of her life Greyson, Viscount Blackwood. She is sent to a Arab Haram in Egypt. The first problem I had with the story is they got to Egypt from England way to fast. Its 1813 and it would have taken months to get to Egypt. I did not like Portia she was to fickle for the time period. She reads more of a modern day female then a Regency born female. Also she is a Spinster. I am sick of Spinster, especially when they act fickle!!

Greyson Lord Blackwood and Phillip Earl Portia's brother travel and rescue Portia before she is raped.
Greyson and Portia have sex together and he must marry her. But Portia won't marry unless Greyson is in love with her. Here's the next problem with this story. Portia is welling to marry someone else that she doesn't even know and who doesn't love here because he is a stranger!!! WTH is this? She won't marry Greyson the man she loves after all he has done for her because he won't say the words I love You but she willing to marry an complete stranger or someone else who doesn't love her to save her reputation? This makes NO SENSE at all!!

This is a sad way to write a the heroine because there were very good parts to the story. But most of it isn't logical!! Doesn't make sense!!

What a disappointing book. No chemistry between the Grayson and Portia. No excitement. (The heroine's kidnapping and rescue takes place mostly off screen.) Portia, supposedly a brilliant woman, exhibits none of it in her behavior. Grayson is wishy-washy to an extreme.

This book simply did not work for me, but many other reviewers liked it a lot. À chacun son goût.

This is probably the second worst romance novel I've ever read. The author suffers from telling everything instead of showing, every tiny bit of mystery is hammered down onto the page instead of allowing the reader to infer anything for themselves, the plot is unbelievable, and there is zero chemistry between the leads. On top of it all, the author is clearly racist with the horrific caricture she writes of an "Arabic sultan." The author has clearly not done any research to be attempting to write anything about ships, harems, clubs, etc. let alone foreign locations set in a different time and place.

What makes me so annoyed is that the premise was engaging -- an English heroine kidnapped into a harem. However, no details are told from the heroine's POV of how she got kidnapped, her trip across the globe to the sultan's palace, what life was like in the palace, nothing. Not a single thing. She was just suddenly there and the hero had mysteriously managed to get inside the place. Then the high ruler of the harem totally turns cheek and let's them leave. Unbelievable.

Lady Portia is a beautiful, strong, independent and determined young women. She runs her own business, has four wonderful brothers and is in love with Grayson.

Grayson has lived with Portia's family since he was fifteen. His parents and sister had died in a tragic accident. Grayson's family and Portia's family were close friends. Flagstaff's of course took Grayson in as their own. Grayson was also very close to the Flagstaff boys and of course noticed that Portia was his "shadow" and was somewhat infatuated with him. Robert, Graysons best friend and Portia's oldest brother use to tease him, but at one point said they probably didn't really suit each other in how different they were.

Grayson wanted to follow in his parent's model of a married couple. Proper and above reproach. And of course Portia believed in living life to the fullest and not by "rules".

Portia and Grayson's romance is one of battle of wills. Each fighting for what they believe/want. Porita is determined to make Grayson see her as a women and love her for who she is. Grayson fights his attraction/love for Porita because he knows that she wouldn't be a proper and model wife due to her independence and strong will.

The story is their journey of each realizing what is important and fighting/compromising for each other. We lots of action with a kidnapping, attempted murder, finding the evil villain behind the plot. The theme of family, friends and loyalty are through out the book which I love. I did at times get frustrated with both the hero and heroine. They both seemed unreasonable at certain points and this was repeated several times. The chemistry between them was strong and hot!!

An enjoyable read!!

I think we all love the brothers best friend trope. This is one that I always run to pick up because there’s that long hidden crush that needs to burst out in the open and I gobble that up by the buckets. That is the center romantic trope of A TOUCH OF PASSION. And that part I really enjoyed! There is a great backstory to this couple, their friendship was a beautiful backdrop for their romance.

I haven’t read the rest of the series, however I felt this worked well as a standalone. Portia is sort of the rebel sister. Another thing on my list of favorites. She’s independent, she’s strong and she won’t be forced into a marriage just because that’s what society dictates she should do. She wants love, the kind of passionate love her parents have, and to live life to the fullest. I can say I was immediately taken with her character.

Grayson, her brothers’ best friend, has sworn to protect her. After they went off to war, and many didn’t come back, he’s dealt with a lot of guilt and grief. He’s that damaged hero that thinks everyone he loves he loses. And he’s barricaded his heart against caring for anyone. He wants a wife that will be the perfect example of a good wife to society, one that doesn’t argue with him, doesn’t challenge him, and that he has no risk of falling in love with. But he’s wanted Portia forever and she may prove a bigger temptation than he can fight against.

Their romance was great and they had excellent chemistry. I think some parts of the plot itself I would’ve preferred to see different, but I still enjoyed it. I do find that the dragging of Grayson’s issues with love was a little too long and that started hindering my enjoyment a bit. The hero has to give an inch here and there too, or I will start to think that the heroine might just be better off finding love elsewhere!

As much as I really enjoyed the story, I think at times it felt flat and lost some steam. I was easily distracted from reading it instead of completely invested in the outcome. And that’s really the only reason my rating isn’t higher. This was an enjoyable read and I’ll probably pick up other books by Ms. Evans in the future!

After she recovered from a nearly fatal illness when she was sixteen, Lady Portia Flagstaff vowed she would live her life the way she wanted, and not let conventions dictate her behaviour. Lord Grayson Devlin, a known rake, has known Portia for a long time; she was his best friend’s sister and he has always considered her as a little sister. Grayson came back from the war a changed man: he has lost a bit of his sparkle and he decided he would like to get married and have a family. Portia has always been in love with Grayson, but it seems to her he does not feel the same way towards her; Grayson is looking for a wife who is docile, obedient, and most of all someone whom he does not love. Portia is nothing of the sort: she is wild, does as she likes, and doesn’t care if no one approves; she knows Grayson would never want her for a wife, although he does seem to appreciate her considerable charms. Portia is nearing spinsterhood but still will not settle for a marriage without love. As they must work together as it appears they have a common enemy, Portia jumps on the occasion to test Grayson.

Portia and Grayson are such wonderful characters! Portia is a vivacious, vibrant woman who has a mind of her own and I love how Ms. Evans is able to give us a daring, highly spirited young woman while still staying realistic regarding the era’s limits for women. Portia was bored, got involved in a cider mill which became a huge success; how scandalous! I love how Grayson keeps resisting Portia; he might be a rake, but he is still an honourable man, and he holds women in high esteem, and Portia’s attempts at seduction try his patience. A TOUCH OF PASSION is fast-paced, lively, hugely entertaining, and full of action and plot twists. But Ms. Evans also gives us great character development, as both Portia and Grayson grow as the story goes along. Superbly well-written, intelligent, romantic, and brace yourself for the exciting conclusion! A TOUCH OF PASSION is a terrific read!

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for making this wonderful book available to me.

I'm in love with Bronwen Evans and her Disgraced Lords series, in every book stories and characters never disappointed me. I could not wait to read Grayson and Portia, her abduction at the hands of Libertine Scholars' enemy. This group of friend rakes are so charming, but in the evolve of this series meet women able to tame them and capture their hearts.
I was very surprised by Portia, an amazing female character, I expected her to be more the classic damsel in distress and panicked, with Grayson who rushes to rescue her and instead I found myself in front of a strong and independent woman, who even when she could "put the hands" on the man who has always loved and wanted, is not willing to make compromises, she doesn't want to settle for a marriage of facade with him, she wants to live her life fully and follow her dreams and this cannot happen if Grayson is determined to keep her at distance.
Portia has lived in a home where love between her parents can be breathed in the air every day,and that's what she wants to build along with Grayson.
Grayson on his part, lived in the same house with Portia's parents, after losing his family in a tragic accident, and he's afraid to get involved so much with feelings, because he knows what it's like to lose everything in a few seconds and he doesn't want to expose himself ever more in life to so much pain.
I loved them for their sincerity towards each other, the attraction and passion they feel and that the author is so good at telling, with truly intense scenes.
The story is compelling, I love when the Libertine Scholars gather together, their irony of their speaks and the relationship of deep friendship and understanding that binds them. Always ready to protect their friends, even with not really Orthodox methods.
Slowly they are trying to discover the identity of their enemy that attempted to discredit them in the eyes of society and which is now moved to a harder and dangerous game, risking the lives of everyone.
I have a soft spot for Arend, so dark and full of secrets, I'm looking forward to his book, but I think the next story dedicated to Maitland, the Cold Duke, is unmissable, saw his first approach to what should be his future wife.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group-Loveswept book

Lady Portia Flagstaff is a woman who isn't afraid of a challenge. She embraces life and won't be confined by the rules of society. When she's kidnapped and sold to a Sultan, Grayson Devlin, now Lord Blackwood, and her brother rescue her. This is just the beginning of a dangerous journey. Will an unknown enemy murder the lady and frame Greyson? Lady Portia is a feisty heroine. She may look fragile but she an inner strength that is amazing. The passion and desire these two share is fierce, but there is a problem. Lord Blackwood has loved her for years, but he wants a docile and compliant wife. Portia has always desired Greyson but she won't marry a man who doesn't love her. Will passion rule? The story is well plotted and filled with non stop action as they try and learn who is behind this deadly plot. I enjoyed seeing familiar characters from previous Disgraced Lords novels. I was drawn into the story of the Libertine Scholars. I needed to know who was behind this treachery. Bronwen Evans knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

FINAL DECISION: This book had a great premise, but I thought that it eliminated what would have been the most adventurous and exciting parts for a more pedestrian story. It was okay, but I wish we got to see more of the adventure.

THE STORY: Lady Portia Flagstaff is kidnapped and sent to a harem by the enemy of her brother and the man she has loved for years, Grayson Devlin, Viscount Blackwood. Grayson comes to rescue her. But Portia is ruined and Grayson is determined to keep his promise to Portia's deceased brother by protecting her and thus marrying her. Portia, on the other hand, has no intention on being married to a man who doesn't love her -- even if he is her dream.

OPINION: The description of this book was more exciting than the actual book itself. I read the preview and it was amazing. The scene in the book where Grayson comes to save Portia from the harem is tense and filled with emotion.

Unfortunately, the book itself was not as well developed. Most of the book turns into one endless argument -- Grayson is falling for Portia but fears love and loss. After the two talk this same thing out a dozen times, I just wanted to start skipping to where something new happens in the book.

While the story was perfectly good, I think my disappointment that the book didn't live up to the description colored my experience. I just didn't get the sex and tension between the couple that I wanted.

On the positive side, I enjoyed the continuing mystery in the series and Portia is certainly a heroine who isn't going to be pushed around. I also enjoyed the interaction between the characters in the series. Their relationships are definitely a highlight of the book.

Finally, I really did enjoy the relationship between Portia and Grayson once he stopped being stupid.

WORTH MENTIONING: I liked that Portia is physical and strong and willing to be independent.

CONNECTED BOOKS: A TOUCH OF PASSION is the third book in the Disgraced Lords series. While this book has a self-contained romance, there is an overarching storyline regarding a villain who is trying to destroy the heroes of the series. I recommend reading the books in order to better experience the overarching mystery.

STAR RATING: I give this book 3 stars.

I’m done. I’m stopped at chapter 12 because this book is so disappointing. The hero and heroine have no chemistry, none at all. And apparently they were childhood friends of some sort but the author barely showed the scenes of them bonding as children. Hence, I could not relate to the love Portia had for Grayson.

The whole plot is just about Grayson not being able to give his heart to Portia and her just continuing to request it from him.

The plot is boring as heck. Disappointing book because I enjoyed the first book of this series, but could not find it in myself to love Sebastian’s or Grayson’s book because somehow their personalities were not the best and did not make me like them.

Portia just came off as reckless, not being able to sit still and listen to instruction. She, and Grayson frustrated me, with their going back and forth with their relationship. I was dragging myself to try to finish this book but decided to put myself out of my misery and just stop.

Summary
Portia Flagstaff, has always loved Gray ever since she was sixteen years old. They once shared a passionate kiss, that left her yearning for more. When she receives a summons from him asking her to meet him, she is more than willing. But what she doesn’t expect is to find herself kidnapped and taken to a sultan’s harem. Grayson Devlin has a list of requirements for his future wife, and Portia is too reckless and outspoken for him, despite the desire he feels for her. When he learns that she has been kidnapped, he must find her. So he tracks her down to a Arab’s harem, and sets her free, not knowing that events would take place that would have him duty bound to marry her. Portia wants love and nothing less. Her parents had a loving and passionate marriage, and she wants the same for herself and her children. She deserves nothing less, and that last thiing she wants is to love someone who would never love her in return. But she finds herself in a delicate position, because if she doesn’t marry Grayson she will face horrible scandal both for herself and her family. And if she does agree to marry the man she loves, she will be stuck in a marriage, where she will never feel love in return. But will this dashing rogue and passionate heroine find a common ground and a future they both want together…

Hero
Grayson Devlin, is one of the members of the Libertine Scholars. Grayson has certain ideas for his future. He wants a wife that has poise and elegance and is proper in every way. Passion is for mistresses right? Grayson can’t let himself love, he has lost almost everyone that has been important in his life. He lost one of his best friends in the war, and refuses to let himself care for Portria because he can’t lose her too. Grayson was a great hero, and a scandalous rake. And boy does he know how to make a girl shiver in delight. He knows his way around England and Europe, protective and fiercely possessive despite his closes off heart, too stubborn and proud. Definitely has many alpha like qualities to adore.

The Heroine
Portria Flagstaff, is the only sister from brothers. Portia grew up with parents that loved each other fiercely, and she wants the same for herself. She knows who she wants, and that is Grayson. She has loved him for years, grew up with him, but he doesn’t feel the same way, despite the fact that they create fireworks. Portia is a heroine you can come to love. She is passionate, strong-willed, takes risks, fights for what she believes in and desires more than to just be head of a household and to be a wife to some staid lord. She wants passion in her life.

Plot and Story Line
This is a story that anyone who loves a charming and endearing romance can come to love. There are many things that occur in this story. First we have the mystery of the woman who is trying to kill the Libertine Scholars. So the hunt is on…and it continues with this story. This book is the third installment and is Gray’s story. This is a newer author to me, and with each book I read from her, I become more and more impressed. There aren’t too many recent historical romance authors I love this much. She creates stories of depth and character…the type of stories that stay with you, and make a big impression and A Touch of Passion was no different. The story begins with our heroine making a mistake, a mistake that ends with her being held captive. I loved seeing Portia being a less than perfect character. She has many faults, but she also has many qualities that seem to make her seem…human and very real to the reader. She ends up being rescued by the man she has always loved. The plot is pretty steady and it does have some twists, a bit of mystery and intrigue elements, but the majority of the story is focused on the couple and working through their issues that holds them back from loving each other fully. We see flaws in the heroe’s character, and he does have some good reasons for feeling as he does. But there were a couple of instances in the story, that I just wanted to wring his neck, and you see the negative effect it has on Portia. What truly affected about this one, was the level of emotion that is displayed through the story. Its stong and poignant and ends up capturing your attention. The dialogue is engaging and sweet and keeps you entertained. The humor is great, and I loved the antics of Graysons’ friends. They were just a delightful bunch and can’t wait for their stories to come up next.

Cover
Now I have seen lots of different covers especially for historical romance, and this is one of my favorites. The pose is sensual and holds you in the moment. The first time I saw it I got lost in it, and I lost track of my own world. I love the colors, and Portia’s dress is so beautiful and richly colored.

Overall View
A rich and poignant romance that takes you back through time, a love story of sensuality, adventure and enriched emotion. A truly sensational romance that is a must for any romance lover, a story to inspire and leave you feeling breathless for more from this author. A TREASURE!

Received via NetGalley from the Loveswept team (Random House Publishing Group) in exchange for an honest and completely unbiased review.

----
Lady Portia Flagstaff has been in love with Grayson Devlin since she was sixteen years old, and has been saving herself in hopes one day he will see her as the woman she is and not the almost-sister she feels he treats her as. When she's stolen away by a Sultan with plans to make her part of his harem (**this isn't as cheesy as it sounds**), Portia must rely on the only man she's ever loved to save her, protect her and honor her. Yet, Portia will not settle until she finally has Lord Blackwood's heart for her own.

Grayson Devlin is a bachelor of the tallest order. He has a new woman as often as he likes and enjoys the pleasure of the flesh. He risks it all to rescue his childhood friend Lady Portia Flagstaff, and when it becomes clear her honor would be forfeit upon returning to England, he offers to marry her. Any honorable man would do the same. But can he keep his wits about him and keep his heart off the table?

All the while a nefarious person is tracking their every move, focused on destroying Grayson and killing his new betrothed. Can they find their nemesis before it's too late?
----

I have been having issues finding a book worthy of a positive review lately. Some of this is probably due to bad luck, but mostly I think my dissatisfaction is linked to the monotony that comes from reading the same genre over a long period of time. I came to the conclusion recently that a change in the reading material would help with my disillusionment. So, when i meandered through NetGalley and saw A Touch of Passion I stopped to take a peek. The story interested me and the lovely Loveswept team granted me access to this unique experience.

I enjoyed Mrs Evans' writing style, one that was simple, direct and has a decent emotional element woven into a relationship that, although implausible in the beginning of the novel, became one that you wanted to happen. The characters were real, likeable and flawed. Regardless of the cliché cardboard characters the novel flowed well, and the evolution of the key characters are both realistic and natural.

I have never read any other books in Evans' A Disgraced Lords Series, and to be honest while reading A Touch of Passion I had no idea it was part of a series until near the end. I could follow along without reading the first few books and Evans was able to entice me to read the next book to learn who the villain/villainess of the story turns out to be without any preamble or background. Amazing!

A Touch of Passion is aptly named, the lovers are passionate people, with deeply held beliefs and world views. The love scenes have meaning and tend to develop the story: a refreshing change from the also nymphomania I've been subjected to from some New Adult Romances. The sex is tasteful and spaced out enough that the reader actually reads the scenes instead of just skipping to the part where the plot is continued.

The usual aspects of neo-Victorian literature is still here: mile long discussions, corsets, honor and a strong, independent "modern" woman. Generally I dislike anything Victorian, and dismiss it as boring. Evans might have made me more inclined to try this new flavour of book - so fiery, emotionally charged and MATURE LOVE.

This book would appeal to readers who enjoy neo-Victorian romance, romance in general, a good mystery, and tough Female Leads! Well worth the time!

When we have read Regency Romance books in the past we have gotten the glorious, the promise and the fun what we rarely got was the dark and seamy or the ordinary. Not boring ordinary books but ordinary life. Things happen, not every girl was rich and beautiful, virgins? I am thinking there might have been a lot less of them than we read about? The good guys never got disease, even though most of them ho'd around until they met the one. That was then.. Now when we read Regency Romance we have authors like Bronwen Evans.. and she writes dark, edgy and scandalous and she does it well!

A Touch of Passion is Book Three in Ms. Evans' Disgraced Lords Series and just like books one and two, it shows us a slice of realism, without ruining the fantasy. A Group of friends,The Libertine Scholars, friends from childhood have been targeted, someone wants them destroyed, one was accused of rape, one was accused of murder and now one is being accused of spiriting away an innocent miss.. His name is being blackened all of their names are and none of them know who or why.

Lady Portia Flagstaff is a young lady who knows who she is and enjoys life. She doesn't sit around waiting for life to happen, she goes out and grabs it. Even when she looses family to illness or war, she rejoices in having them and continues to live up to her dreams. Her one dream that she has never been able to capture is the love of Grayson Devlin. He refuses to acknowledge her and it's slowly breaking her heart. So when she gets a letter from him, to meet him in a less than circumspect place, Portia is ready to leap.. Only it wasn't from Devlin and now Portia is in desperate need of help.

When Grason Devlin lost his entire family when he was a teen and it left scars. He learned to never trust his heart to anyone. They will break it, somehow. So when his attraction to Portia starts getting the better of him, he does everything he can to walk away. That is until she is captured and he knows he is one of the few men who can save her. And in saving her, he accepts that he must let go of that dream of a calm "perfect" wife. Instead he will be getting the ever so glorious Portia.

A battle of wills has begun. Portia loves Grayson and dreams of a family with him. Grayson cares for Portia and dreads any sort of relationship with her only now that the marriage is on.. Portia refuses to marry a man who doesn't love her and Grayson is doing everything he can to browbeat her into marrying him. Hard enough in normal circumstances but these two are on the run. First from the Sultan who held her captive, then from a group of men who are trying to kill her.

Can it get any worse? Of course it can! Passion isn't enough and more than love is on the line. The Scholars are trying to figure out who hates them so much and of course who will be targeted next. Ms. Evans has done a wonderful job building this intrigue and I must admit, I am curious to see just who is after them and why.

Book by book, story by story, the plot is twisting and turning with the Libertines getting ever closer. Clues are dropped then removed. Hopes are raised then dashed.. An intriguing tease.

Another excellent Libertine Scholar book!!

This is the continuing saga in the Disgraced Lords series and I have thoroughly enjoyed each of the previous books. A group of dashing young men known as the Libertine Scholars are trying to find out who is dishonoring their names and reputations and along the way they find heroines who match them at every dangerous turn.

Portia Flagstaff enjoys being an independent woman, she secretly owns a cider company and likes knowing she is not relying on anyone. As a headstrong woman she also seems to get into trouble. She has had several near death experiences in her younger years and wants to enjoy things, especially the more decadent ways of life.

Grayson Devlin grew up in the Flagstaff household after his parents died, he has known Portia since they were teens and promised her brother when he died in battle he would take care of her. Little does he know that being one of the Libertine Scholars, a group of men who went to school together, has put her in danger. An unknown enemy has been targeting the group for several years and Portia is their next victim when she is kidnapped and all suspicions point to Grayson as the culprit. When he goes after her, he becomes aware that his feelings have changed, from looking at her as a younger sister to a desirous woman.

I have truly enjoyed this series, the overall story arc that has continued through three books is entertaining and intriguing. I am anxious to know who their enemy is and why she has been after them for all these years.

The author also has an interesting time schedule with these books, the timelines have overlapped each other and it makes for some fun reading. While Grayson is trying to save Portia from a sultan, two of the six Libertine’s have had their adventures and found their true loves. I remember reading about Grayson and how he was off to Egypt rescuing a young woman and was delighted with their story.

Grayson and Portia have an interesting relationship, she has loved him since he came to live with her but he was best friends with her brother and never thought of her as more than a younger sister. He came back from war a changed man and she had a hard time reaching him but when she gets kidnapped he realized how important she is to him and races to rescue her. Yet there are still several obstacles that he has to overcome, mainly his worry about losing those that he loves, so he backs away from her whenever he feels too close.

I liked both the hero and the heroine and believed the chemistry works between them, there are several scenes that sizzle and you can feel the attraction. Yet I was angry at the amount of times Grayson would not commit, he knows he must marry her to save her reputation but won’t express his feelings, even when he thinks she might die, I wanted to slap him. I enjoyed the secondary characters, many are Libertine friends who have been in the previous books and I like how the mystery deepens as the clues pile up, they are getting closer and I can’t wait to see what happens. Although this is the third book and the they all have a common theme between them, the author keeps the reader informed so this can easily be read as a standalone. This is a great addition to the series and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a historical romance with mystery, danger and intrigue.

“I’ve always known who you are, and I’ve always admired who you are, and I’ve always loved who you are. I was simply too scared to admit it. But I promise you I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for my cowardice.”

A Touch of Passion is the third book in The Disgraced Lords Series, and the mystery of who is causing troubles continues.

I have always enjoyed each book from Bronwen Evans, A Touch of passion had amused me, made me pinned for the characters and had me in tears.

You will like both Lady Portia Flagstaff and Grayson Devlin. I have always fallen in love with strong female characters, and Portia is one of them. Her near-brush with death made her appreciate life and grab it by the horns. She wants to experience life, and do what she wants to without care for the rule of the ton. But one thing had never changed though – her feelings for Grayson. He had her heart since she was sixteen.

Grayson on the other hand saw death in the worse possible way. After losing his friend in the war, he was never the same again. He decided to put some walls around his heart and never to love. He’d prefer to have a marriage of convenience like his parents. He has some requirements on a wife, and Portia wasn’t the best candidate.

When his rescue caused the both of the worse consequence of all: marriage, Portia took it as her chance to make him see that she was good for him. That he will be much happier with someone who had a zest for life, that challenges him.

Will Portia convince Grayson to give her a chance? Will Grayson see past through his fears and realize Portia is the perfect woman for him? She loved him so much, but until when can she endure unrequited love?

I got myself teary eyed and heartbroken in between the pages, and I enjoyed the air of mystery that continued within the series, especially now that some facts are coming out to light. Somehow, I have to thank the person who is causing all the trouble because it brought Portia and Grayson back together. It wasn’t as fast as I wanted to, because apparently, our dashing war hero needed a good, heartbreaking and devastating wake-up call before he finally realized that he couldn’t live without her. Good thing that he knows how to grovel…

A perfect mix of romance, steam and mystery – Bronwen Evans made sure you would be eager to turn each page!

Grayson Devlin, Lord Blackwood, refuses to allow his heart to love anyone. After all, everyone he's loved died - his parents & sister when he was very young & he lost is best friend during the war which he has tremendous guilt over. But that doesn't stop him from wanting the girl he grew up with, the sister of his best friend. After kissing Lady Portia Flagstaff at a Cyprian's Ball (where she has snuck in to satisfy her curiosity about what happens between a man & a woman) Grayson realizes he must stay away from her, after all she's not the type of woman he sees as his wife plus her brother doesn't think they will make a good match.

Lady Portia Flagstaff, an unconventional young lady of the ton who craves excitement & danger. Having almost died at 16 Portia is determined to live life to the fullest. She has made a list of things she wants to accomplish before she dies. One of which is experience, that even though she's determined to remain unwed - the man she loves only thinks of her as a sister, the passion between a man & a woman. One way to learn is by watching what happens at a Cyprian's Ball. Unfortunately she doesn't count on being discovered by the man she loves. As Grayson tries to remove her from the ball he needs to take drastic action to conceal her identity when her brother approaches...he kisses her.

Forward several years, Grayson is on a quest to clear the name of a fellow Libertine Scholar, a group of young men who put as much passion into their learning as they did their female pursuits. The last thing he needs is a distraction. But that is irrelevant to the person who is trying to discredit (then kill) the Libertine Scholars as they have lured Lady Portia to a rendezvous is Grayson's name.

When Portia is kidnapped & sold to a sultan for his harem, Grayson knows he must save her. Their escape & return to England on fraught with danger & several attempts on their lives. As Grayson tries to make Portia understand her reputation is in ruins & they must marry can she make him understand that she's not marrying for anything but love? Can Portia make Grayson understand that not loving is not living? That life's rewards are worth the risk? If Grayson opens his heart will he be able to keep it open when things become dire as their assassin closes in?

This 3rd book in the A Disgraced Lords series is as exciting an intense as the first 2! Bronwen Evans keeps the excitement & danger exciting & new with each book she has written in the series. Ms. Evans does an excellent job of giving enough history from the previous stories that each can be read as a stand alone but I HIGHLY suggest reading them all....you won't be disappointed. Plus she gives enough of a teaser at the end to keep you coming back for more. I'm anxiously awaiting the next in the series to find out who the villian/villianess is!!!

Posted on What I'm Reading

I'm going to suggest reading the previous books in The Disgraced Lords, because there is plot that ties all the books together. I'm guessing that each book adds a little bit about who is trying to each member of Libertine Scholars. However, this can be read as a standalone in a way, because the story focuses on Grayson and Portia. Let's focus on Grayson and Portia's journey to finding true love.

I love Portia and her desire for knowledge even when it skates around snubbing her nose in society. I don't believe she does intentionally, but more she wants to do things that will make her happy. Yes, she would love get marry, but she's not going to be anyones trophy wife and broodmare especially Grayson. Even though she loves Grayson she's not going to sacrifice her hopes and dreams on someone who isn't going to return her feelings. Things get a little complicated when she's kidnapped and Grayson's comes to rescue her. I love how she sticks to her guns about saying "I will not marry to save my reputation." That takes balls. In essences Portia is a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man to save her reputation.

Now Grayson. Poor guy, he almost loses a great thing, because of his antiquated ideas. Before his father had passed away, he offered a piece of advice to Grayson which basically was "find a woman that is meek, quiet, and looks good on your arm, and if you have your peccadillo with your mistress." Yeah, nice. However, when he was living in Portia's home he saw a different type of relation that conflicted with what his father said. He thought he wanted to the first option, because it would make his life easier and he could keep his heart sheltered from the hurt that could come from love. Poor fool. Of course, Portia is definitely not the woman for him.

Anyway, Portia being the highly intelligent woman that she was gave him a taste of what he asked for, and I love what she presented to him. He starts to realize that he doesn't want that, but his fear is more powerful than the belief in love. His fear almost sacrifices something special between Portia.

A Touch of Passion is a beautiful story about a young woman willing to defiled society notions on whats more important to find love and to teach the one she loves the most that life without love is not worth it. I absolutely love the quotes in the story, because they focus on sharing love is important. So, if you want a story that shows the importance of love and willing to make sacrifice to find it, A Touch of Passion is the story for you.

While I love a fiercely independent historical heroine and I've come to appreciate their unconventional habits and straightforwardness, I've also come to expect a certain level of bravery from them. Portia possessed that in spades.

It was part of her appeal. Oh, sure, her bluestocking ways were frowned upon by the ton, but, seriously, who cared? She was beautiful and intelligent, bold as brass and willing to defy convention to follow her heart. That kind of gumption made her cider business a success when men of her time didn't think a woman was meant to be more than biddable, pretty, and a baby maker.

Then she was kidnapped and sold to a harem, and one of the only men who could save her was Grayson.

Grayson was everything I could want in a hero: handsome, brave, intelligent. But he also drove me crazy. For all of his worldly experience with women, he knew that none affected him like Portia. Physical attraction was mutual, but love was completely one-sided for most of this story. Grayson struggled to come terms with what he felt for Portia and what she wanted from him, a byproduct of having lost his family at a young age. His heart had been shattered by the devastating loss. Add to that the nightmare of watching Portia's brother die and another friend burn on the battlefield, and it was easy to understand why he was unwilling to share his heart with the only woman he wanted.

Through the ups-and-downs of their relationship, as they struggled to come to some sort of understanding, Portia, Grayson and his fellow Libertine Scholars had to deal with someone hell bent on taking out each and every Libertine Scholar by any means necessary. The mystery behind the assailant and his/her minions built steadily throughout the book, but Ms. Evans doesn't reveal who the assailant is at the end.

Passion for one another might be where Portia and Grayson started, but it isn't where they ended because it wasn't enough. Their love for one another couldn't just be shown, it needed to be said. It's then and there that their separate lives come together, when the future becomes clearer.

Ms. Evans has done a terrific job of bringing the mighty Libertine Scholars to their knees as they fall in love and allow themselves to be loved. A beautiful and moving story, this is a great addition to The Disgraced Lords series and leaves me anxiously awaiting the next installment.

Lady Portia Flagstaff lives life to its fullest. After a close brush with death she's not about to let life pass her by. Grayson Devlin, Viscount Blackwood has decided to guard his life and his heart for protection after the death of his family when he was 12 years old and later losing his dearest friend to war and being to late to save him. Portia has loved Grayson for what seems her entire life but Grayson keeps her at arms length. After Portia goes missing after a supposed secret rendezvous to meet with Grayson at midnight he fears the worst. Another person who means something to him may be gone forever. He's off to rescuer her. Once he's found her he is honor bound to salvage her reputation by marrying her. It's Portia's dream and her worst nightmare. The man she loves has offered marriage but not his heart. Never his heart.

My heart hurt for him and all that he'd had to endure at such a young age. He struggled with what his father had started to teach him and what he'd lived and observed in the Flagstaff household later. He so wanted that for himself as a man but to afraid to allow. Portia is such a strong and smart woman she wanted to give him that but not with out his heart and respect for the person she was. With out that Portia will not marry him or anyone else ever. Grayson comes to realize he's losing her if he does not come to see love is worth opening yourself up to hurt and possible grief to truly enjoy life to its fullest.

I enjoyed this book so much. The other books in this series were fun and enjoyable and I thought Christian was my favorite character but Grayson just might of kicked him to the curb. I'm looking forward to the next book and I so hope its Maitland's. I want to see him fall for a woman and fall hard.

ADRI’S REVIEW:
Thank you first of all to NetGalley and Random House Loveswept for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.
As many of you know I have been following this series since I came across the first book probably about a year ago. And have read the other 2 books (which I highly recommend doing since there are a few events that run concurrent along with this book). Now because I did read the other books in order and knew that there was something that was important that we would learn from Portia and Grayson’s story I was anxious to get to it. And let me tell you that Bronwen didn’t disappoint with the information that we learn about who is trying to hurt the Disgraced Lords. I love that they are getting so much closer, but also that as time goes on these men are finding love. Another thing that I have to say, and only because I love the military the fact that Bronwen touches on things that many of men and women (veterans) are still dealing with today does it add to my emotional feeling about this book. I will admit that for a lot of this book I did do quite a bit of crying. Grayson and Portia’s pasts, their guilt and feelings over her brother, and the fact that Grayson spends to much time working hard on not letting people in. Oh just so many emotions were hit on during this book that its hard to sit here and tell you each of them without giving the book away. So I will just tell you that you won’t regret sitting down to read this book.
I give this book 5 very passionate kisses.
Happy Reading… Adri

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review).

"Independent and high-spirited, Lady Portia Flagstaff has never been afraid to take a risk, especially if it involves excitement and danger. But this time, being kidnapped and sold into an Arab harem is the outcome of one risk too many. Now, in order to regain her freedom, she has to rely on the deliciously packaged Grayson Devlin, Viscount Blackwood, a man who despises her reckless ways—and stirs in her a thirst for passion.

After losing his mother and two siblings in a carriage accident years ago, Grayson Devlin promised Portia’s dying brother that he’d always watch over his wayward sister. But having to travel to Egypt to rescue the foolhardy girl has made his blood boil. Grayson already has his hands full trying to clear his best friend and fellow Libertine Scholar of a crime he didn’t commit. Worse still, his dashing rescue has unleashed an unforeseen and undesired consequence: marriage. Now it’s more than Portia he has to protect . . . it’s his battered heart." (From Amazon)

I enjoyed this historical romance mixed with suspense and mystery. Grayson is not my favourite character in the series and his romance with Portia wasn't as strong as the previous books, but it was still enjoyable as a third book that advances the series' arc.

This is the third book in the Disgraced Lords Series. The Libertine Scholars are a group of gentlemen that have been friends for years and even though they have gone on with their lives, they are all still close friends. In this book Grayson Devlin the hero is carousing rogue who loves women and they love him. He lost his parents and younger sister in an accident and came to live with friends of his family. A member of the family was Lady Portia Flagstaff, a fun loving, daredevil, young lady who flirted with scandal and ruin that drove her five brothers crazy. Grayson and two of her brothers go off to war, but her oldest doesn't come home and Grayson blames himself. When Portia gets kidnapped, Grayson and one of her brothers rescue her. To avoid a scandal he insists that they marry. She refuses. She wants to marry for love and even though she loves him, she knows he does not love her. The mystery of why she was kidnapped is part of the larger story that continues from the first two books, and will continue into the next book. This story has action, mystery, sex, humor and most of all a great love story. All the Scholars are woven in and out of the first three books and I cannot wait for the next one. Great Series!!!

This book was amazing, funny, well written and most of all hot & sexy.
I got the book out of sequence, but that is ok they can be read as an stand alone book.
But I plan to read the first two books now. there is an overall story in the background
about the Libertine Scholar's which all the men belong to.
And the malicious person out to ruin all of them.
I loved this book and how lady Portia would not settle for any
other man than Gayson and his heart. Everyone wants that
kind of epic love. Trust me it is rare and happy I can say I
have that. I have to say Bronwen Evans certainly pulls you in
so you are so emotionally invested it breaks your heart to
when Portia feels she has lost him forever. I suggest you
have the tissues ready when she send him that letter to his
home. I cried I was so hurt for her. Now I have to stop here
as I do not want to ruin it for you. I suggest getting all three
books. I am off to get the other two now.I hope you enjoy this
book as Much as I did.
If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review.
The Authors really like it when you do, they value your opinions too.

Grayson likes his woman to have a hands on approach when it comes to intimacy, "her hands glided down to his breeches. "Touch me," he commanded." Portia I loved her character she wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted and she was so honest and pure, "I almost died again today, and I'm still a virgin. It would appear someone wants me dead." She stared up at him defiantly, tears shimmering in her eyes. "I don't want to die a virgin. I don't want..." She swallowed before finishing in a whisper. "I don't want to die not knowing what it's like to have you inside me." Grayson sure has a jealous side the way he keeps his woman from talking about other men is to ravish her, "he is attractive." She heard Grayson's curse a moment before she found herself in his arms, his mouth plundering hers." I liked this book a woman chasing after her man because he's to pig-headed to see what's in front of him.

This is the third installment of The Disgraced Lord series. The story continue with a mystery woman out to get the Libertine Scholars. Ms. Bronwen Evans is one of my favorite authors. I found her writing to be interesting, sexually charge and explosive. She will captured your attention with suspense and intrigue. Lady Portia Flagstaff is very high spirited and takes life with both hands. She knows life is too short to go the easy and safe route. Lord Grayson Blackwood always desired Lady Portia, but knew a match between would never work. When Lady Portia get kidnapped, Lord Grayson has to rescue her. Sink or swim, they will have to decide if they love is strong enough to overcome the differences. I love this series and I can't wait for the next book. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher thru NetGalley for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book as I had a chance to read it before it is to be published. It is a Disgraced Lords novel, the third book. I had not read the previous two so I was not sure what to expect. Portia is such a strong female, comfortable in the fact that she loves one man and has for most of her life. When he cannot say the words she wants to hear, she is willing to move on without him. Grayson has had so much pain in his life that he is afraid to open his heart to hear what it is saying, and he almost loses that which is actually dearest to him. The story goes from London to a harem and back with humor as well as plenty of adventure. The idea of the Libertine Scholars intrigued me, and I definitely need to read the first books of this series. I highly recommend this story.

A heroine I will never forget

Can not express just how much I enjoyed Grayson and Portia's story. Their interactions were fun and I loved Portia's determination to have Grayson accept her for the woman she was and not to mold herself to be someone she wasn't just to be with him. The harem escape had me turning the pages quickly to see how the rescue would play out. Found myself cheering for Portia when she stood up to Grayson and tried to make him understand the importance of not denying or fearing to love and grabbing every moment of it that you can. Wonderful romance with an unforgettable heroine.

Portia’s curious and wild ways end up getting her in trouble and Grayson, whom she has loved since she was a 16, and her brother must rescue her. Will Portia be able to make Grayson see her as something other than her brother’s little sister and will Grayson realize that he wants more than a marriage of convenience? The story is entertaining and suspenseful, the cast of characters is colorful and the story flows seamlessly. A read that let me escape into an exciting adventure. Great Read!
