When country music superstar Clay Masterson finds his supposedly dead father, he wants to do two things: Buy dear ol’ dad a beer to thank him for being a great father for the ten minutes he spent at it, and kick his dad’s sorry butt to Montana to face an eighteen-year-old murder charge. Harlie Cates will try to stop him. Happily ever after could be a problem for them.
Caught in Cross Seas is the first book in The Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. I came into this series a little backward, as I started in on book #3 first. As I was reading it my curiosity was piqued about the characters and past events, so I snatched up the first two books to find out all about the other characters in the series. I have really enjoyed this series, as not only are they really well written, but the characters are all so wonderfully developed individuals with their own personalities, quirks and flaws- as well as being a completely engaging and engrossing story. The book has so much happening between the covers, with mystery, suspense, some action, drama, and so much more. The storyline is very intriguing, and I found myself drawn further and further into the pages, to see how Ms. Scott brings everything together in the end. After meeting Harlie and Clay in book #3, I have now really enjoyed finding out how they (and the series) began. They really are great characters, and it was so easy to get invested in them and the outcome of their story. The whole plot was very interesting, with wonderful details that brought the whole thing to life. Well worth the read!
I just finished reading Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott - book 1 in the Caught Series.
Harlie Cates found friends and roots in Angel Beach, Oregon. Something she really needed but wasn’t sure she could have.
After escaping an abusive husband, she just wants peace, solitude and a safe life.
Clay Masterson is much more than a famous country singer. He is also a man in search of his father.
Normally, when you hear that sentence, you figure that person is looking for a relationship that they feel they lost out on.
Clay Masterson, not so much. He wants to find his father so he can get some answers.
Harlie is involved in more than just her bakery, she is fighting another fight of her own.
Neither one of them is looking for a relationship - but the chemistry is so strong, they might not have a choice but to explore their feelings further, but will it be right for them?
I absolutely LOVED this book! The characters, the setting, the situations they find themselves in, everything!
When I decide to write a review, I usually do so right after reading the book - but I have to admit that I was looking for the second book in this series, before it even occurred to me to sit down and write a review for this one - THAT'S how hooked I was!
Sharleen Scott is definitely an author I will be bookmarking, subscribing to and looking for! Her writing style is beautiful and I was in this ride from start to finish, not wanting it to end!
Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) by Sharleen Scott was an addicting read that had me hooked from start to finish.
Not my first read by this author or in this series, I actually read the last book first, but they can be read as standalones. Though there were some spoilers for this book, it wasn't enough to ruin this amazing read. It actually made me what to read the whole series, but because of spoilers and the linear timeline, I do highly suggest reading this series in order.
This book was something, I don't even know where to start. I can tell you that I can't find anything that bothered me, nothing negative, and I can tell you that it's not often I'm lost for words. I was hooked on every word, every sentence and every page. Clay and Harlie were a joy to read about, I mean sure, there were misunderstandings, ups, downs and conflict. But at the same time, all that chaos made them real, and down to earth. But man oh man, there are parts that will have you on the edge of your seat and have you holding your breath. I was in almost tears at the end. The emotions that both Clay and Harlie displayed and expressed, got me right in the feels. I can't tell you the scene, cause major spoilers, but hell, that ending, my god, my heart was on the floor.
There is so much going on this book, and for a story to have such a multi connecting plot and intertwined side plots, you think things would get muddled. No, this book was as close to perfection as it could get. No plot holes, from the mystery, clues, broken souls, second chances, and a good old showdown, everything was tied up and clean. Info wasn't hoarded till the end, it was spaced out and given at the right times. Letting us get to know the characters, as they got to know each other. Things weren't dumbed down, or over complicated, and that real pull made this story not only original and unique, it made it, highly enjoyable, compelling and stemulating.
I have so many things I want to gush about, the words just want to pour out of me. But to save you from my rambles and spoilers; I'm going to leave you here, with my crazy, super high recommendation, and my golden stamp of approval.
Caught in Cross Seas is the first book in the Caught series by Sharleen Scott. This is my first novel by this author.
Country singer Clay Masterson travels to Angel Beach in search of his father who is charged with murder from eighteen years ago. When he finds him, he will alert the authorities.
Harlie is baker who moves to Angel Beach after escaping her abusive husband. The two meet and Harlie helps Clay.
But there is more to this situation than any of them could have thought possible. With danger lurking around every corner, falling in love was not part of the plan.
I really enjoyed the novel especially the main characters. Clay I felt sympathy for but felt he made some decisions that weren’t right but I could understand his anger. His relation with Harlie was filled with so much emotion it made it feel on the edge of my seat.
The author did a really great job showcasing the hurt, misunderstandings and heartbreak the characters go through.
It’s been a while since I read such an thriller filled emotional book, but I look forward to the next book in the series.
Caught in Cross Seas is book one in the Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. Having not read anything by this author, it was a mystery at what was to unfold. I do love a good mystery with a little aggression and a lot of loving.
Harlie, a bakery owning spitfire escapes an abusive relationship and wants a simple and safe life. Clay is a guy who wants answers to the mystery surrounding his father. When these two meet as neighbours, sparks fly, but neither are looking for love. Harlie and Clay share chemistry, attraction and tenacity. They endeavour to solve the mystery and get the answers to so many unanswered questions. They compliment each other and their blossoming love was a pleasure to read about. It was suspenseful, dramatic, arousing and addictive.
Caught in Cross Seas is a fascinating and edgy story that will keep readers engaged and energised. A great read. 4 stars.
Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott a four-star read that will want to run to. This is the first novel in the Caught series and shows how great this series is. This could be too much of a story as there is so much going on with the story and lots of different sub plots, but somehow the author manages to keep it all together and keeps you hooked in to the twists and turns. Clay Masterson and Harlie Cates have a darkness that they are running from, but will they get to run to the light? Each has a different darkness but sometimes you find a common strength in the dark. I can’t wait to read the second novel in this series.
Blurb: Only a city girl would think her secret safe in a small town. When bakery owner Harlie Cates escaped her abusive husband in Seattle she thought Angel Beach, Oregon was the perfect hiding place. Then Clay Masterson moved in next door. She isn’t looking for love. She doesn’t even date. And she doesn’t want a country music superstar tossing her into his spotlight. So, why can’t she stay away from him?
Clay Masterson isn’t in town for the chowder. He’s searching for his supposedly dead father, who was accused of murder in Montana, and the grapevine says he’ll find him near Angel Beach. If Clay finds him, he’ll thank him for being an exemplary father for the ten minutes he spent at it, and alert the authorities. Harlie offers to help, believing Clay’s motivation is love, not vengeance.
But Clay isn’t the only one searching for his father. Someone knows who committed the murder and knows Harlie’s secret too. He plans to clean up these problems, once and for all. Two, or maybe three, birds with one stone.
A great read about disappearing. Renowned country musician Hunt Masterston mysteriousky disappeared eighteen years ago. On the search for his father, Clay Masterston heads to Angel Beach to follow up a lead of a sighting. As his nsw next door neighbour, Harlie is soon drawn into his world and wants to help him. But it seems more than one person wants to find Hunt and as events unfold more secrets are revealed. Can you truly disappear forever? a great read. Well developed plot with twists and furnx. Well developed characters like Harlie standing up for herself but caring underneath or Clay as a cocky musicisn but kind underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like supportive brother Tom or the optimistic Buck. The use of suspense was drawn out to perfection as details were revealed slowly to make you wnat to keep reading to find Hunt and discover why he went missing. i loved the visual detail throughout the novel in the sense of the wild coast withthe cliffs and the sea and sand and the storms and seagulls to vibidly paint the picture for the reader and give a love to the wild nature that is psrt of home. Or the description of the bakery with its gentle and homely soft colours and chairs, with scents and display cases of cakes so vivid it was as if you were actually there.Or the feel of a little town with its small shops where everyone knows eachother. i also adored the portrayal of the homeless people treated with kindness as people to be respected and helped when they are just down on their luck was emotive and beautifully written as they added character and a sweet tone to the novel. And also how they were encouraged fo pursue their passions like Buck with his music or Lisa with her paintings was a lovely touch.Overall, a great read and i would give it five stars.
Caught in Cross Seas was a great 5 star read and book one in the Caught Series.
Harlie meets Clay after she gets in an accident with her smart car, she is enamored by his looks. They meet again when Clay accuses Harlie of following him home, which didn’t go well. Clay didn’t exactly start off on the right foot with Harlie.
I don’t care who you are. I’m not interested in you or whatever you’re offering. -Clay And I’d bungee jump nude into a cactus before I’d be interested in you either! -Harlie
Clay has come to Oregon in search of his supposed dead father, who needs to face what he did back in Montana. Harlie also has a little secret of her own as well, and if her location is discovered it could mean some bad things for her. Harlie agrees to help Clay try and find his dad, they end up growing close and feelings start to develop.
There are twists, turns and secrets revealed that added a great element to the story. I really liked Harlie, she was a caring and spunky woman and she had no clue who Clay was at first. It was great how she handled the riot of women, I was LOL. And I loved Clay, who doesn’t love a hot musician. All of the secondary characters were great. The ending was perfect and I would love to see more from these two, feel like there could be even more to their story. I can’t wait to read book two in the series.
Caught in Cross Seas is the first book in Sharleen Scott’s The Caught Series. I had never heard of her but I picked up a copy when reading the synopsis, it carried so much potential and I tell you, Sharleen delivered! I lived in North West for some year and when I started reading the story and found that it took place in Oregon, it warmed my heart and I could picture Angel Beach in my mind! Caught in Cross Seas gives us the story of Harlie Cates and Clay Masterson. Harlie is independent, intelligent and despite of having her own demons, she is set on showing as much kindness as possible and to save as many as possible. Clay is a country music superstar who is looking for his father having been told that he is dead … he is not in a good place … his demons surface every time there are rumours of sightings of his father … These two meet and take us on a rollercoaster ride with crazy events that leave you grabbing the edge of your seat and going …really??? You see the darkness and you hope that they will be able to walk into the light, together … I am looking forward to reading the other stories in the series and hopefully we will hear also more about Harlie and Clay and …
Caught In Cross Seas is the first book in the Caught series by Sharleen Scott. Each book can be read as a stand-alone however characters do appear again and there can be spoilers if you don’t read the books in order. This is the first time I’ve read any of this author’s work and I’m so glad I took a chance on it. I really loved this book and now have books 2 & 3 waiting on my kindle for me to enjoy. Clay Masterson is huge country music star who is looking for his father who is presumed dead 18 years ago. His search takes him to Angel Beach, Oregon where he comes into contact with the very feisty Harlie Cates. Harlie has had a very difficult life so far and does not trust easily. I loved the characters of Harlie and Clay. They are both obviously deeply attracted to each other but with their very different lifestyles and difficult pasts, having a relationship with each other is not going to be easy. As well as the romantic aspect of this book, it is also a great suspenseful thriller that kept me gripped the whole way through. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of this series. If book 1 is anything to go by then this series is going to be one of my favourites.
Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) by Sharleen Scott 4 out of 5 Stars This book has a little bit of everything. Mystery, romance, suspense and a dash of intrigue. Harlie and Clay are two very unique characters brought together by even more unique circumstances. Harlie is a strong, independent woman who is avoiding her past and she will do anything to keep the past from finding her, so much so that she has gone to the far corners of the USA to keep the past away. Clay is a country music superstar and he has found himself in Harlie's next of the woods searching for his father. His father is supposed to be dead, but rumors persist that he is alive, and a murderer. Harlie and Clay start off like oil and water. They bash heads more often than cats and dogs, but as they grow to know each other, they begin to understand why the other is the way they are and what has lead them to be this way. The banter between the two of them is hilarious and frustrating at the same time. Will Clay find his father? Will Harlie's past find her? This book is a must read!
Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) by Sharleen Scott is well written, and wonderfully developed characters that you become fully invested in. There is a lot happening in this book, and the multi faceted plots are carefully woven to bring this story together and to make it engrossing and intriguing and one that draws you in. The mystery and drama, subtle clues and manipulation, suspense and action doesn’t leave us wanting. The easy flow of the story keeps you hooked. The emotions the story evoke run rampant as you try to piece it all together.
Harlie is the sweetest woman in town. Everybody loves her and she would give you anything just to make sure you are ok.
Clay has followed the clues and finds himself in yet another town looking for a ghost. What he finds is more than he can cope with. What he finds is lies and deceit. What he finds is more than he thought he needed. But what he needs is something he left behind. I really enjoyed this story and can not wait to read book 2.
Caught in Cross Seas (The Caught Series book 1) By Sharleen Scott 5 stars
Caught in Cross Seas was a great read! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading and as this was also the first book that I have read by this author I was really looking forward to starting it and once I did I was hooked straight away. I LOVED Clay and Harlie, their story was really great to read about. The author took me on one huge emotional roller-coaster with this couple – I felt like I lived all of their ups and downs with them, I could feel every emotion they did – and there were definitely a few tears shed along the way. The author wrote about them both in such a way that they really did feel real. The story flowed so well, there were twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat, there was no part where the story dragged or where I lost interest. It was really was a fantastic read and I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!!
Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) By Sharleen Scott. This story definitely put its hooks in me from page one and I couldn’t put it down until the end. This is a new author for me and I can’t wait to read more. Harlie and Clay are characters I loved watching interact with each other, each having their own story to tell. The author does a wonderful job of writing writing a story that kept me guessing and turning pages as fast as possible to see what happens next. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. The author does a great job of giving attention to details and the emotions written into the story. It played out like a movie before my eyes and I love books that can do that. I’m excited to see where the author takes readers next. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to everyone.
5 Star Caught in Cross Seas ( The Caught Series Book 1) By Sharleen Scott
Caught in Cross Seas ( The Caught Series Book 1) By Sharleen Scott is the first Book in her The Caught Series and a book that will draw you in instantly and keeps your attention throughout the whole book especially with the twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what happens next. I’ve read other books by this Author and her ability to make you imagine exactly what she is describing is amazing I felt like I was going right along side them through the book. Her development of her characters is even more amazing .Get ready to be taken on a rollercoaster ride with some twists and turns and some ups and downs. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I definitely can't wait to get my hands on the next Book in this series as well. I highly recommend this Book.
Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott is book one of the Caught series. I couldn’t put this book down. It has it all; mystery, romance and suspense. I was on the edge of my seat.
Harlie is strong, independent and smart. Harlie has made a life for herself with her business. The last thing she expected was to be attracted to Clay. Clay is a country music superstar. Surely, Harlie’s attraction is one sided. Clay has secrets of his own but his focus right now is to find his father. Will the attraction sparking between Harlie and Clay turn into something else? What about their pasts?
I couldn’t put this book down. There were so many emotions and situations where I just wanted to yell at them to get it right. I felt really invested in the happiness of both Harlie and Clay. I can’t wait to read book two!!
This is my first book that I’ve read from this author and it was good. There was romance, some drama and mystery. The element of a serial killer added excitement and the thrill of figuring out who it is. I realized who Hunt Masterson was early on in the book but it was interesting to see how the story would unfold and how the characters would find out. The story was well written and the characters were well developed. The main characters each had their own issues to deal with. The author did an excellent job of tying all the sub plots together and wrote an exciting story. I adored Clay and Harlie, they were so cute as a couple. They each lived through tremendous heartache and they found each other. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and recommend that you read this book.
I just love finding new authors! This is the first book by this author I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author has a refreshing writing style that brings the reader into the world she has created. I found myself glued to the pages not wanting to put the book down.
The chemistry between Harlie and Clay is just so unique. I found myself going through the emotions along with Harlie as she battles with her past and the uncertain future at first. I really like how the author was able to entwine both Clay's and Harlie's pasts and build the drama around them. I really found that it kept me wanting to see what happened next. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
Caught in Cross Seas (The Caught Series Book 1)- Sharleen Scott
5-stars
Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott is a phenomenal romance read and an incredible start to the Caught series! It’s thrilling, emotional, suspenseful, steamy and I was kept on my toes the whole way through.
From the very beginning I was hooked, I couldn’t get enough of Harlie and Clay, the two of them together were completely addicting! Harlie may just be my favorite character I’ve read about so far this year, she was selfless, caring, sweet, giving and she has a heart of gold! The world needs more people like her!
I can’t wait to read from this author while continuing with this series! This is a romance read I would absolutely recommend to everyone!
Caught in the Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott is the first book in the Caught Series. I was drawn in at the very beginning and hated to finish it only because I enjoyed it so much.
Harlie has an incredibly giving heart and she tugged at my heart in the first chapter and didn't let go. Her work to give back to people who are in such dire need me makes me want to do more. She has her demons but don't we all.
Clay also has an amazing heart and demons. He hasn't let his fame effect who he is as a person and it has actually made him able to do more.
As a child of an addict I was able to connect with some of the feelings Harlie had buried deep. As much as we don't want to admit it the actions of our parents both positive and negative impact us.
Great book! Can't wait to get to the next in the series.
Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) By: Sharleen Scott 5 out of 5 stars
The story Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) by Sharleen Scott is a book that I loved reading. It has mystery, suspense, and romance. A combination that hooked me in from the very beginning and I found myself not wanting to put the story down until I had finished. The book had me trying to decipher clues and at times had me wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Harlie Cates and Clay Masterson. Harlie is an independent, intelligent, kind, and caring person. She is a business owner and works hard to help others. She has found herself attracted to Clay Masterson. Clay is a country music superstar who is searching for a father that he was told is dead. His father was accused of murder. There are rumors that he is still alive. Clay is a man with a kind heart and a life that can at times seem crazy. His search for his father takes him to Angel Beach, Oregon. He there meets Harlie. Will Clay find his father in Angel Beach? Is what has sparked between Harlie and Clay turning into a serious relationship? What does the future hold for them? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down with the characters. There are moments that are sad and others that warmed my heart. There are miscommunications and situations that are complicated. There is also bantering between Clay and Harlie. I grew to care about Clay and Harlie with each chapter that I read. They are characters that I wanted to find happiness. There are also additional characters that I enjoyed reading about as well. The story has a smooth flow to it and is a fascinating read.
Caught in the Cross Seas (The Caught Series Book 1) By Sharleen Scott Rated 5 stars
I really enjoyed this much more than I anticipated. The story was good. The characters were enchanting. The writing was smooth and easy to follow. I laughed and teared up a couple times. The characters were deep enough that I learned to like and care about them. I really enjoyed Harlie (Loved her name) she is fun and her look on life is nice. Her shoes, her word and heart are all what make her interesting. I love her thoughts on arguing!
“Arguing has its virtues. It clears the air and gives people great opportunities for making up.”
Clay is a country singer who is missing something in his life. He has life struggles. I think he was shocked when Harlie call him a “Goober”. That made me laugh though. I was glad for the portrayal of his singing life (fans etc.) and a normal person life. Clay brings some great characters into the story with him. Tom and Harv were fun to read. They definitely have Clays back and they watch out for Harlie.
The ending.....I am not a super fan. Granted she did things to make him mad. Just as he upset her. But the time frame, distance and the reason...irritated me. That made the ending uncomfortable and too rushed for me. Anyway I see the next book is about TOM!! So excited to see where his story goes.
CAUGHT IN THE CROSS SEAS is the first book in the new "Caught Series" and I was intrigued by the blurb.
This is a completely entangled story that has deception and lies and denial and suspense - oh and romance. It is multi layered with one common thread that connects it all together. The tale is complex and well plotted with lots of characters who interact with each other. At times I found myself going backwards to help me recall a particular plot point or character. I read fast and don't always absorb the words.
I had a problem connecting with the main characters of the story. I never felt invested at any time. They both have a lot of baggage they are running from and are both in need of really good therapy. That is me, though, you may connect with them and fall in love.
I did enjoy reading the story and was kept engaged from beginning to end. I will continue this series.
Reading this story. My only complaint would be the length. It took too long to get into the story. A couple of times, I thought about not finishing. But then there would be some action, so I would continue. I have to admit, I finally skipped a head, several times. Just a little each time. It didn't take away from the story and I didn't feel confused when I started reading again. I do like this author. I have the second book, on my Kindle Unlimited. I want to thank Sharleen, for putting her books in Kindle Unlimited. If not for Sharleen, and authors like her, I wouldn't be enjoying all the wonderful books I read. I usually read two books a day. Without KU I couldn't afford too. So, thank you Sharleen. I do recommend this book. Keep at it! It's worth the time.
What a scary situation Harlie was caught in. To be so young and alone. With no one to guide you or protect you. Harlie is very brave to have escaped he past. The story was sweet and fun but also a little dark. I feel like Destiny puts us where we need to be and anything that comes along is meant to be. That our fate is affected by the choices we make. Clay is the perfect blend of a man. He has all the qualities and looks that most women crave. I’m a suck a for a southern drawl. Clay was down to earth and just wow. I think that him and Harlie go together perfectly. The author did a great job writing this story. It was presented perfectly and not rushed. The characters develop well and you see them grow throughout the story.
Caught in Cross Seas, by Sharleen Scott, is the first book in the Caught Series. This romantic suspense was well written with amazing characters. The mystery, suspense, drama, chemistry, regrets, want/desire were all there. The author created a story with a full cast keeping you guessing who is guilty versus innocent, who is lying versus being forthcoming. The reader is kept engaged in the story while the author continues to weave the tale bringing the reader to the climax of the story wondering how it's all going to finish. Harlie and Clay were excellently paired and I really enjoyed the push/pull dynamic of them. This is a story/series that I highly recommend.
Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott is my first book by this author. She has an amazing story telling ability which drew me into the story even more. I can really relate to Harlie as I grew up in the City of Chicago on the Northwest side. You think everything can be started fresh or can it? This story is a suspense story with a love story in it as well. Clay is a big city boy looking for his dad. He meets Harlie and that is when the story took off. Will Harlie and Clay find what they are looking for or will trouble come looking for them? This is one suspense, romance, and comedy you will want to read.
Caught in Cross Seas is the first book in the Caught series by Sharleen Scott. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Scott, but definitely won’t be the last. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. This story is full of mystery, suspense, intrigue and romance. The story had many subplots and was very busy, but Ms. Scott made everything flow so smoothly and it is an amazingly portrayed story filled with twists and turns that will you guessing right to the end. Harlie is such a strong character with a dark past and Clay is a man chasing his own demons. This is a wonderful story that I highly recommend.
