Daniel Jay Millman is an American author and lecturer in the personal development field. He is best-known for the movie Peaceful Warrior, which is based on his own life and taken from one of his books.
the first book that i read which gave me some insight on what energy is, how it affects us, etc. i still advise it to everybody who is unknowing of what spirituality is but wants to know more about it. i must say that i do not like his other books. only this one. storywise it is no great literature, but if you can read through this, there is a lot to make you think and look deeper
I am suspicious to tell you of this collection. What is peaceful warrior? It is, for me, a masterpiece. I am not kidding, it has changed my way to seeing life, how I would behaviour in front of embarrassing situations, how I handle my issues, I made me think much more about what I want to me. So, just read it up, it will, absolutely, worthwhile.
Honestly It took me a bit longer than I thought to finished this book. My comment here won't be different from other. this book have given me lot of new ideas and opened my mind to see thing differently (each reader have to discover by themselves)
I am not a native English speaker but this book are very easy and understandable,
it took me about 1 month and half to finish as I took it very slow. the book itself are pretty heavy lol and for me I think there is another state of mind that not everyone can understand it at once, so that the reason why it took me a bit longer to finish this book :) and I wanted to truly understand in every chapter and in every sentence that Socrates were guiding Dan which is very worth to spend time to think during reading.
this book have given me so much more than I expected. and I will re-read it. I do believe in another year, time gone by when I re-read it the idea will be different.
I'm definitely recommended this book and my tips for new reader is do not force yourself to finish it. read them when your mind are free and take it step by step when thing are complicated (not the language but the idea of this book) just put it down do other stuff and go back to read it again when you are ready to experience them and your mind are free :)
This was alright. I saw the movie, which is really good, so I wanted to read the book. Honestly, the movie was better. The book has more detail, of course, but it gets a little "new age-y" for me. There were a lot of good nuggets in here, and beneficial mindset, but there were also times when I wondered what kind of drugs he must have been on, or how all this enlightenment was worth abandoning his family. Then again, I'm sure I'm just not "enlightened" enough to understand. So it's a unique read, and I'll take what I can from it, but just go watch the movie. You'll get the good stuff without all the weird.
Wow! I really liked this book. Very intriguing and inspiring. I read it during lunch and then would think about it the rest of the day. A few days I was tempted to go hide a read a few more pages. I'll be checking out the rest of his books. Told my brother to check it out, I may just send him the book to read.
Read when I was younger and had no idea what impact it had on me. When I read this again I found that I had been telling stories from this book for years. The second time through the message really hit home.
There are times when the book is still better than the movies and times here and there when the movie is actually better. After reading this one, or starting to, I just felt a grander need to experience the cinematic version.
Understanding is the one-dimensional comprehension of the intellect. It leads to knowledge. Realization is three-dimensional – a simultaneous comprehension of head, heart, and instinct. It comes only from direct experience.
Use whatever knowledge you have but see its limitations. Knowledge alone does not suffice; it has not heart. No amount of knowledge will nourish or sustain your spirit; it can never bring you ultimate happiness or peace. Life requires more than knowledge; it requires intense feeling and constant energy. Life demands right action if knowledge is to come alive.
It is better for you to take responsibility for your life as it is, instead of blaming others, or circumstances, for your predicament. As your eyes open, you’ll see that your state of health, happiness, and every circumstance of your life has been, in large part, arranged by you – consciously or unconsciously.
I liked this book. It basically had the same message as Echart Tolle's 'A New Earth' on in a novel form. Both books shared two of the same stories of wisdom. There was plenty of humor that kept me laughing out loud throughout the book. I would recommend it. I also might have given it another star if I didn't already know the importance of being Present.
Truthfully, I read this book because a guy I liked told it was incredible. I started reading it on a Winter Vacation and was totally swept away by it. It is truly a life changing book. It is a very interesting book, and a fun story! Definitely recommend it to everyone!
This book is great. I was reading this when my flight got diverted due to pilot selfishness, and I was the only calm person. I thought these angry NYers were going to lynch those guys. It puts one in a real zen frame of mind. It also makes you want to hike in Molokai.
I received this book from my boss. The only thing I could say is that you need to develop all the three areas: body, mind, spirit. You can't neglect any of this three.
An amazing read. I was so engrossed in the story. The book is full of lessons and beautiful anecdotes. I couldn't help but to admire D.Millman's style of writing. A beautiful and enjoyable book in all.
