Shatterproof #2

Illicit Contact

Rate this book
As Watts and Catherine become more entangled in a relationship marked by searing sex and imminent danger, he reveals the horrific events of his past that led to his current, dark life. Now Catherine must decide: with all that she’s been through in her life, can she risk suffering the heartache she could be forced to endure if she stays with Watts?

Watts:

I’ve had to do some unspeakable things in my life. Some might even consider me a bad guy.

My secrets can get people hurt, even killed. For that reason, I’ve never let anyone get close to me.

Until Catherine.

Her life of isolation so closely mirrors mine that I feel inextricably bound to her.

She’s my one shot at redemption, and I just may be hers. If the risk is too much for her, she’ll leave. If she stays, my life’s mission changes forever…

Due to mature themes, this book is recommended for readers 18+.

★★★★! Illicit Contact, part 2 of 3. It was supposed to be just one night of passion, but he’s back for more! Who is the mysterious Watts & what are his secrets?

P.S. I’m usually not so wordy when it comes to expressing my inner feelings. That was the long, complicated way of saying I can’t wait to bury my face between your legs again.

Books in the Shatterproof series should be read in order:
Part 1: Privacy Code
Part 2: Illicit Contact
Part 3: Naked Risk

In Privacy Code (part 1) FBI employee Catherine Marie Kolb and the mysterious Watts decided to meet for an night of passion after 6 months as pen pals. In accordance with Watts’ Privacy code that would mark the end of their friendship. But a night of mind-blowing sex just wasn’t enough….

Illicit Contact (part 2) picks up right after part 1. Both Watts and Catherine are in a state of confusion trying to reconcile their intense attraction, sexual chemistry and a bond that has developed with their friendship. Watts opens up about his identity and starts revealing some of his secrets while Catherine opens up about her painful past. Just as things are looking out the plot thickens with villains and dark forces…

 photo PC2 H BS by sb_zps5cnpjnh6.gif

Eight words to describe Watts: Charming, witty, secretive, commanding, elusive, broken, fearless and non-committal .

photo PC2 he BS by sb_zpsc9ssvys5.gif

Seven to describe Catherine Marie Kolb: Lonely, sweet, timid, withdrawn, organized, broken and endearing.

Illicit Contact is a suspenseful, sexy and quick read driven by the mysterious Watts. This installment also ends rather abruptly, but no worries, just jump to part 3, Naked Risk for the conclusion of their story.

Complex, secretive and commanding hero! Suspenseful plot! Steeeamy sex scenes! Compelling heroine!

“I loved being naked for this man. Loved the odd mixture of extreme vulnerability and total assurance of comfort.”

Watts has decided that he can't just simply stay away from Catherine. But that doesn't mean he's ready to tell her any of his secrets. But as these two turn their email relationship into something far more physical, Watts is discovering that he isn't the only one hiding something. Her job, makes her vulnerable... Watts... well his profession, puts everyone in harms way. But sometimes lust and desire are more of a force than right and wrong. But will she stay once she learns the truth?

------------------

I have to hand it to Jordan Burke for revealing so many small clues, but yet keeping everything so unpredictable. My mind was swimming with ideas as to just who Watts may be, who he may be working for... what side of that line did he stand on? But in reality, my mind just never latched on to anything like what was revealed. I can say, this is a theme that I would almost expect to be more present but is I think a lot of authors shy away from - I am finding it all sorts of intriguing and these two have me wondering just what will be enough to shift entire lives into a new direction.

Both characters have been likable, although I am not overly attached to either, I think that as the final installment is brought to its conclusion that is going to change. I like a little bit of suspense to my romance and I think with what was foreshadowed in part two, that suspense is going to be the white-knuckle kind.

I was given a ARC in exchange for my honest review.

In part two we see Watts and Catherine's relationship start to blossom into so much more.

Catherine still knows Watts is keeping many secrets from her, but she finds it hard to resist Watts. She has fallen for this man. And he slowly starts to open up about his life, where he works, and slowly starts to let her in. But Watts has MANY secrets, dangerous secrets and he is finding it hard to decide what he will do with Catherine. He knows what the right decision would be, but can he leave her behind and keep her from harm and his nasty demons? Jordan does not disappoint with a steamy, erotic, suspenseful love story. This is not your average story and it pushes the envelope. Jordan exceeds all expectations in this series and leaves you wanting more every installment. Watts is bone-chilling and leaves you craving his story. You will not be disappointed with part 2 or this series. A must read for sure.

description

I committed myself to him, and got the same in return. I was his. He was mine.

Illicit Contact is the second book in Jordan Burke Shatterproof series.

Illicit Contact continues with Catherine and Watts’ story after they decide to take their relationship to the next level. Catherine fell in love slowly for Watts, even if he has a lot of secrets. In this part we get to know more about both Catherine and Watts, even if at first they both are very skilled at hiding them from each other. There’s a lot of tension between them and also a lot of sexual tension.

The steam level is higher in this part, and the passion and the connection is there and really great!

I really don't understand why the author took a full length novel and broke it into 3 installments, if I was reviewing it as a whole book it would be well on the way to getting 5 Stars but as I'm reviewing it as part 2 I am only able to give it 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this installment, and really glad I decided to read it. It's pace is much faster and the sex scene way hotter !
One of my criticisms of part 1 was that I didn't conntect to the characters due to the level of secrecy that surrounded them, well I'm glad to say a lot of the secrets are revealed in this book letting me see the people behind the secrets.
Both Catherine and Watts start to trust each other as they start a relationship one that could end in disaster for both of them but will two people who have only had themselves to think of in a long time be able to make a relationship work ?
There seemed to be a bit more meat to this part of the book therefore I found myself enjoying it more and it ending on a slight cliffhanger, which you would except from a novella.
I can wait to see how it all ends.

As thrilling as the first book in this series ( Privacy Code ), it compelled me to read it in a couple of hours. The passion and emotional turmoil Watts and Catherine are going through just leaps off the pages of this book. Their sexual connection has been building for the past 6 months and there is no denying this passionate explosion.

With their physical relationship on its way like a rocket, now it's time to decide and share those deep dark secrets they have both been keeping. It takes a lot of love to accept and support someone whose secrets are so horrific, but is Catherine able to do this? What are the risks she is exposing herself to by supporting Watts?

This is a must read in the journey to the conclusion of this thrilling and suspenseful romance. Naked Risk is scheduled for publishing on July 23rd. Cannot wait to read the final chapter!

This book picks up where book one leaves off...

There is a lot of mystery surrounding Watts. Catherine knows he is keeping secrets but she doesn't realize how deadly or scary those secrets are. As Watts gives in and decides to start a relationhip with Catherine, he knows he needs to be honest with her and tell her what he really does for a living. And he also wants to find out who Catherine is.

As these two embark on a naighty love affair, secrets are revealed from both Catherine and Watts that could be a breaking point. Watts is scared he will put Catherine in danger if she knows the truth but he feels compelled to tell her because he doesn't want to lose her.

The steam between these two heats up in book two. Man they were OFF. THE. CHARTS. They could light up the pages and I loved Watts' dirty talk!

The ending to this book was killer! Man! I want to know more about the man that came to the bookstore and what Watts is going to do about his threat to end his relationship with Catherine.

Is Watts keeping more secrets from Catherine or has he told her all? What will Catherine do when she finds out that the danger to her life is more than she originally thought?

I can't wait for the final book in this series to see what happens with Catherine and Watts!

This was a quick read that was quite enjoyable and also hot! The erotic banter via emails between the two main characters was hot, hot, HOT! I ended the book wanting to read the next in the series. My only criticism is that I would prefer to pay a little more and get the entire series in one book rather than paying for three relatively short installments, of what is essentially one book. In fact I now often no longer purchase books that come out in series containing short books that are actually just part of one story, especially if the release dates for the follow ons are quite far, because by the time the next part in the series is released I have forgotten parts, or characters from the first book. Having said this, I'm glad I didn't give this one a miss and yippee, I don't have to wait for the third and final book in the series to still be released!

3.5 Stars for this compact trilogy! In this installment, Watts and Catherine bare all. Secrets are shared, souls are bared (as well as some body parts - hehe) and our main characters officially trash the Privacy Code for something a bit more intimate. The gauntlet gets thrown down, but we'll have to move on to book 3 to reveal the consequences of these actions.

An entertaining read.

Illicit Contact is the second part of the Shatterproof series. I was hooked in Privacy code (the first part) by Watts and Catherine’s story, and jumped almost immediately into Illicit Contact, in hopes of getting more info on Watts. And I did!!!! Still love Watts, too :) But, I still have Naked Risk to go and the ending of Illicit Contact makes me nervous. Please let this series end in a HEA!!!

“The way I saw it, I had three options: One, break things off with her; two, tell her everything and make her aware of who she had become involved with; three, go on like we had been and not tell her anything.”

Illicit Contact continues Catherine and Watts’ story after they decide to take their email relationship to the next level. The HOT level!!! And believe me when I say that the HEAT level does not come down a bit in this story. But, pasts finally come out and decisions have to be made about where they will go from here. And in my opinion, Catherine made the right choice. But, there is so much more to come!!

“I wanted so badly to know what it was about Watts’s life that necessitated his cloak of privacy.”

I am thoroughly enjoying where this story is going and actually like that it is broken down into three parts. It’s crazy but I feel so accomplished thinking that I am almost done with three different books ;)

Just like, Privacy Code, this one also comes highly recommended, but you have to read Privacy Code first :)

Seriously...WOW!!!

This instalment is SCORCHING!! The heat coming off the pages is palpable. Watts is SO intense and I am loving every word.....sigh! I want a pair of red-bottom shoes!!! And a Watts!!! :)

The Secrets..... knew they would be gut-wrenching! This author is phenomenal!!!! The story had me by the proverbial.... "ba**s"!!!!!

"I was stronger now that I knew his story. For the first time in my life, I knew someone who could relate to the idea that you can't really know sweetness without first knowing bitterness. And for the first time in my life, there was hope" <3

oh yea, you MUST read Privacy Code before reading Illicit!!!!

Now to devour the last instalment!!!.... Naked Risk

And the plot thickens. Watts and Catherine grow closer after their night of hotness. They both reveal their sorted past to one another. From there we find yet another layer of Watts and find out a lot more of what he does. Now Catherine must decide if taking this risk by being with Watts is worth it all. With a man like Watts, that’ an easy answer “YES”

Watts makes her feel like she has never before. Catherine will only grow stronger with him by her side and finally live the life that she deserves. She just needs to keep their relationship on the down low but it’s gonna be hard when she works in the FBI.

The cliffhanger, geez, the organization that Watts is involved in has eyes on and made a demand on him that I don’t think will happen.

I received a free copy of this book for my honest opinion~ I'd give Illicit Contact a 4.5

Watts and Catherine are getting embroiled deeper into each other, their souls calling out for the other. Their relationship is hot and steamy, erotic and lovely.
As they fall hard for each other, their secrets are spilling over..
They feel the need to be honest and see how the other reacts.
Catherine's job at the FBI could become a real problem now that she knows Watts secrets, and her life could be in danger.
Illicit Contact really amps up the storyline for the Shatterproof series, and I sped through this book, really enjoying it. As such, it receives 4.5 stars from me!

I was given a copy of Illicit Contact in exchange for an honest review.

Book two carries on from where we left Watts and Catherine in Privacy Code. Although they are beginning to open up a little more with each other, there's still so much secrecy and intrigue. Watts has to make probably one of the most important decisions in his life, which in turn puts Catherine in a dangerous position. Illicit Contact will keep your pulse and your imagination racing. Don't miss this second book from Jordan Burke!!

Indeed, a lot better than the first installment. My opinion now is, the first book truly was written to entice curiosity...it did I for me at least. I world argue that this is an unique story, in that, I have not encountered a character such as Watts with the type of motivation/employment he has. Unfortunately, I have met Catherine before in a variety of shades.

I am enjoying the hint of intrigue. By the way, Tony is making me nervous. My eyebrow is raised when it comes to him. Totally suspect, if you ask me. The friend, Tara, I say, " Shhhh."

The mystery and sexual chemistry continue to climb in this series. I was surprised that Watts actually told Catherine about his past. When he started telling his story in a British accent, I thought maybe he was MI6.The story talks about Catherine's feelings towards Watts but it hasn't yet said how he feels about her other than he lusts after her. The predicament that both of their jobs place them in make it interesting as to how far things are going to go with them, especially after Watts's visit from his handler. Looking forward to seeing how this series ends with the next book.

I reviewed the first book and my feelings about this series have not changed. It's very well written and it's a great read, however....176 pages is not a book! With both the first and second book, I felt the story was just cut off. If you are going to consider your story a book, then it should be at least 300 pages, if not more.

But regardless, I'm enjoying the story and find Watts very intriguing and it will be fun to see how he continues to acclimate Catherine into his life, especially considering she works for the FBI and he was warned to stop seeing her.

In part 2 of shatterproof series , Watts is still a mystery to Catherine and she is trying to peel the layers and know what he's hiding after all she's falling for him. Fortunately, Watts starts to open up but what he's revealing is much more than what Catherine was expecting. Dangerous secrets are told and choices have to be made.
In this steamy, hot and full of suspence love story, Jordan takes us in a journey where Watts and Catherine's relationship develops into something more. You won't be disappointed with this series. YOU MUST READ IT !

This is part two of a three part series.

In this part we see Catherine and Watts relationship getting deeper. Although there are still secrets both are opening up and starting to trust each other. I love the suspense in this story. It really had me sitting at the edge of my seat. It's a really hot story that I read in one sitting.

What an ending!! Looking forward to reading the third part in this series.

This book was hot! I thought the first book in this series was good, this one is amazing! Watts and Catherine are still getting to know each other. There are some very hot sex scenes throughout this book. Over time, Catherine lets her walls down and reveals her past to Watts. He then reveals his dark past which is totally shocking! Will Catherine stay with Watts after she hears what his past entails?? Definitely a 5 star read for me!

The plot thickened in this book and was VERY entertaining. The Privacy Code from Book 1 is definitely BROKEN and I loved every second of it. The characters start really falling for one another in this installment and the heat ramps up. I'd give the heat about a 7 out of 10 on the heat scale. I'm definitely committed to both characters and enjoy the back and forth as they try to figure out what they mean to one another. Already purchased book 3.

Illicit Control by Jordan Burke is the second book on the Shatterproof series. Again, this was another interesting read with lots of twists and turns that kept me hooked from beginning to end. This book also was a quick read that had a great flow to it. The chemistry between the characters was great, but I'm still waiting for the big Wow part of this series. Maybe I will get it in book three!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, I found these two books to be unputdownable, sadly this was not the case with The lost Symbol. For me this book was very drawn out and thus felt as though it was an extremely long read. If this novel had been the first Dan brown novel that I had read, I am not sure that I would have been inspired to read any more novels by this author.

This one was just ok for me. I'm assuming if I read all three installments together it would have been better. I've had a bit of time in between the 1st & this one and was thinking "now wait I liked Watts why?"
