So I had just finished a long, very complex fantasy and I was all, "Brain candy time!!" and grabbed the nearest romance, which happened to be this Kindle freebie. And immediately, on the first page, I run into this sentence:
She ran out of her bedroom and past her sister, Ivy, who was coming out of the bathroom with a towel around her head and rushed down the stairs and out into the gentle sunlight.
And on the second page we have this:
"I'm Rayne Nyman the new owner of this home."
If you like squeaky clean romances and (a) don't see anything wrong with these sentences, or (b) do see what's wrong but don't particularly care, you'll probably like this novel, as long as you also like reading this kind of book:
He. Was. Beautiful. She'd never in her life seen cheekbones like his. And his eyes were such a light shade of blue they were almost silver. Forget landscaping, this guy should be modeling.
There are a lot of random, meaningless spats between the main couple that come out of left field and are just as quickly settled, and a subplot with an evil baddie that is (presumably) resolved in a later book in this series but is left open here. It's all pretty superficial, but if you just want a quick romantic rush and aren't a grammar Nazi like I am, you may like this book. All I can say is, once again, commas can be your friends!

My good friend Kathy Jo is doing a fun reading challenge over at her blog (KJ's Book Nook) where she is rereading all her old favorites. Falling for Rayne was first up on her list and seeing her review made me want to read it again as well, and I just realized I read this almost two years ago t the day! I enjoyed it just as much this time around.

We meet Garrett in the Love & Dessert and Love & Trust trilogies and I was so excited when I found out he would be getting his own book! Garrett has had it rough, especially when it comes to the women in his life. His mom skipped out on him when he was a little boy and it seems any woman who enters his life just leaves again. He's built up a wall around his heart and doesn't want to let anyone get too close.

Rayne and her sister have moved to Fircrest to hide out from a possible murderer. Their parents were killed in a suspicious car accident and until they have more answers they want to play things safe. Rayne has spent her entire life trying to please her parents, who have demanded perfection. She is a world famous pianist and unlucky in love.

Garrett and Rayne have chemistry right from the start. I liked that they didn't let that get in their way of disagreeing with each other, they had some fun fights. Although they come from different backgrounds, they have a lot in common. They bring out the best in each other and were a great couple. I really loved their story!

It was fun seeing characters from previous books (I especially liked the resolution between Tate and Garrett) and returning to the charming town of Fircrest. I also liked meeting new characters Ivy, Cleo, Beckett and Asher. Overall, it was a fun story, with a touch of mystery that keeps you on your toes. Loved it!

Falling for Rayne is A-MAZ-ING! I absolutely LOVED it!

Garrett has been a favorite of mine since the Love and Dessert trilogy and I was absolutely THRILLED to find out that he was going to get his own series with his very own HEA. If anyone deserves one it's definitely him. And of course Rayne does too. She is completely PERFECT for him. I just have to say that she was one determined little firecracker and I loved it. They both kind of had a crappy childhood but being together makes them want to live... be happy... and just enjoy life. And seeing Rayne enjoying the little things in life just made my heart smile. I'm always saying it's the little things that matter the most.

I'm loving all the characters in this series already. Ivy... Cleo... Becket... Asher... I am SO excited for their stories. I have my thoughts on how things are going to work out and I'm secretly hoping I'm right... ;) Hehe. I foresee twists... turns... and secrets... ;)

And the little added mystery?! Very intrigued and also have a few suspicions... I don't want to give anything away but I think it's going to be a bit surprising to see how it all ends. Graham and Liam are just creepy and I know we haven't seen the last of them... *shivers*

Once again Ms. Guymon sucked me in and I just could not stop reading once I started the book. I already want to re-read this book again. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series... let the adventures continue!

And let's not forget my casting! *dreamy sigh*

I fell in love with these characters right off the bat. We see Garrett in the Love and Dessert trilogy and he kind of seemed like a jerk then, but now? He's a big sweetheart. It just goes to show that there is someone for everyone and love can soften the toughest man.

I felt sorry for Rayne. She's rich, she's a famous concert pianist, and she's beautiful, but she's had a very sheltered and controlled life. Now that her parents are dead, she can live the life she wants to live--but she's also living a life in danger. She believes that her parents were murdered and someone seems to be after her.

Rayne is a likable character--one who finds joy in the journey and in the little things. I love how she's learning to be spontaneous and really comes into her true self. I also enjoyed getting to know her younger sister and their body guard. I can tell this is going to be a great trilogy! Garrett is a war vet and is fiercely protective of those he cares about. I love how he's very traditional, yet he's also in tune with his gut and what he needs to do. He's a funny guy and a manly man--just completely adorable.

This is a sweet, darling romance with some action and mystery included and I'm looking forward to the next book!

Content: mild romance (kissing); no language; mild religious elements; mild-moderate violence (beatings, attempted murder, shooting--no graphic details). Clean!

Falling for Rayne is the first book in Shannon's new series but it is not the first book set in Fircrest.  This is actually book #7.  So start with book one in the Love and Dessert Trilogy:  You Belong With Me because you'll want to meet the women of Belinda's Bakery. Then work you way through that series followed by the Love and Trust series.  Then read this one.  It's just better that way.  I'd fallen in love with Garrett before even picking up this book.

Garrett was one of my favorite side characters in the first 2 series set in Fircrest.  In fact when I finished Tough Love I emailed Shannon asking if Garrett would get his own story. She replied that he would...
My next trilogy is called Love and Flowers and it will be based on Garrett and his brothers. Never fear, I wouldn't leave him hanging.

As soon as I saw Falling for Rayne was available I borrowed it from the Kindle Lending Library.  Shannon is a master at writing characters that I can't help but fall in love with. Her books are all squeaky clean and yet full of romance.  They all follow a similar pattern but I like that I know what to expect and know that I am going to get the happily ever after that I want. That's the reason I pick up these books. Garrett and Rayne had great chemistry and I loved their interactions.

I'm looking forward to the next two books in the series as I love the new characters who have been introduced.

If you love clean romance check out Shannon's books.

Sweet story with a touch of suspense!

I am really loving this new trilogy set within the Fircrest series. Finally, we get to see Garrett fall deeply in love and get his happily ever after! I enjoyed the sweet romance, and absolutely loved the bits of suspense thrown in as well. Excited to read the next one in this series!

It's always hard for me to review these books because I'm always too anxious to start the next one...and I don't want to take the time to stop and write. :) In other words...I loved it. This is Garret's story. He is first introduced in The Love and Dessert trilogy. He is a Marine and Knight in Shining Armor...all blended into one. I love that he finally gets his happily ever after...at least the beginning of it. :) We are also introduced to several other new fun characters...including our amazing and very talented heroine, Rayne. Great, light, clean romance.

So cute! I really liked Garrett and Rayne. For some odd reason however, I felt like it was all too easy. Does that even make sense? I enjoy the ease. But I think for me to be in love with a book there has got to be some depth. Some character building moment or some tension that dispels over time. This was more of a love at first sight book and then we just watch them go to a proposal. I had to kind of laugh every time they were "having a fight".

It was a very sweet book and I truly enjoyed it. I even happy sighed a few times.

Excited for the rest of the series!

This was a fun quick read with a swoon worthy male lead and a leading lady I actually really liked. The story was cute and easy to read but the bad guy and the violence was pretty sillily done. I have a hard time with bad guys that are silly instead of bad. If someone is out to kill you it should feel like you are in danger as you read but there was none of that in this book. Everything was kept very light and fun even tho someone was trying to kill our main character thorough out the book. So ya, cute but come on:} This was very clean and had a little church in it.

I didn't realize this had been released already. I know what I'll be doing today!

I love that Garrett gets his own story. I loved when Shannon Guymon did that for Rob too. Just because the relationship didn't work out for them in one book, I'm glad they weren't doomed to fictional loneliness and unhappiness!

This was a really cute book! I did feel like it was a lot like the other books from this author but since it has been awhile since I read the other ones it didn't bug me too much. I liked Garrett!!! He is totally awesome! She kind of bugged me with her weird tantrums she threw.

Oh Garrett, Garrett, Garrett. I am sooooo happy now that you're happy. This poor man just couldn't catch a break during the first two series.

I have to admit this story is a bit more serious than the other books I've read by Shannon. Meaning, it deals with more serious issues. I won't spoil anything for you but just be prepared that this one tugs at your emotional heart strings a little more. I feel so bad for all the characters and what they have to go through, physically, emotionally, and mentally. But If I know anything about Shannon it's that she will always come up with a happily ever after for everyone.

What else can I say? It's a typical Shannon story, and that means fun characters, hunky men, an adorable romance, heart pounding suspense, and a happy ending. I seriously cannot get enough of these books. Bring on #2!

This was just ok for me. 3.5 stars...
This was my first Shannon Guymon book and after reading reviews it looks like maybe I should have read some other books first in order to get to know Garrett more? I liked Garrett fine- he was sweet. I just didn't get the random fights he and Rayne had, the conversations seemed kind of corny, and really I thought if a killer (who wasn't revealed) is after you why isn't there more stress happening? I'm ok with corny- sometimes I'm totally in the mood. But yeah, this just didn't really do it for me, but not enough to turn me off from the author. I have some other books on hold at the library from the same author, and I'll try again. :)

I love Shannon Guymon and her books. This is the beginning of a whole new series and I'm so excited. I love the romance her books create without ever stepping over the line for me. There is depth to the characters and I love how characters from the previous books make an appearance so I never really feel like I've left them all behind.

This book has a splash of danger thrown in that was a bit of a change of pace. This book leaves things hanging as far as that goes so I will be anxiously awaiting the next book to find out what's going to happen. Who IS the bad guy?!

I've been waiting to read this book for a long time. I was so looking forward to it. And now, I really wish I hadn't read it.

Thoughts
-Rayne throws as many tantrums as my four year old.
-I died 17 times from second-hand embarrassment while reading this book.
-Do people frequently talk about how good looking the other is on a first date?
-Rayne went from "he's such a jerk" to "I love him" so often it was silly. Especially when he really wasn't ever a jerk.

I read this series out of order... I read Dreaming of Ivy first and then really wanted to know the back story for the characters and came back and read Falling for Rayne. So I knew how things were going to end up, but it did not spoil the story for me at all! I loved getting to know Garrett, Becket, Asher, Rayne, Ivy & Cloe.

Rayne has spent most of her 26 years living the life her parents have chosen for her. She drew the line at marrying Liam - the son of her best friend who she had been "dating" (if you could call it that) for years! (Note: I loved the appearances by Liam in the story because he really shows us what a great guy Garrett is by contrast:) When she refused to marry Liam, she got in a big fight with her parents, and a few months later her parents were killed in a car accident. Only eye witnesses are pretty sure it wasn't an accident. And Rayne has now inherited A LOT of money after the death of her parents... and she needs to figure out who is after her and her sister, Ivy. The obvious suspect is Graham Mitchell - her half-cousin who has been creepy-in-love with her for years and has let her know that it is legal for half-cousins to marry in California.

Rayne, Ivy and their "bodyguard" Cleo are hiding out in Fircrest until they can figure out who is after them. Rayne is fixing up her grandmother's house when she first meets Garrett Murphy, owner of Murphy Landscaping. Garrett is an ex-marine and is different in every way from the spoiled, rich guys Rayne has known. She feels an immediate spark... I loved the chemistry between Garrett and Rayne!

I love how Garrett could have been intimidated by her money and her international fame as a pianist, but instead sees her for who she really is... and I love that Rayne is learning how to take risks and is discovering what it's like to really be alive! And neither of them lets the other get their way all the time.

After you read this book, I highly recommend going on and reading Book 2 in the series, Dreaming of Ivy!

Content: Clean, no language, some mild violence.

I love this author and her books so much! As soon as one of her books comes out, I clear my schedule and plan a reading day!! This book was well worth the wait! I stayed up late to finish this book, and carried my kindle all over just to finish this story! It is an absolute must read! Just by the first book, I know it's a must have series!
The story is fun, and full of romance!!
I love the dynamic of the Garrett and Rayne! Their chemistry is on point! It's always great to see a character finally find what they are looking for. The characters are so real in this book, and you definitely find yourself rooting for them! I love how Rayne and Garrett learn important lessons along the way to finding each other!
Rayne is one of my favorite characters! I love how she is stubborn, sassy, and sweet! That always makes a fun character! Garrett is just a fun, romantic, playful, and romantic guy! I am glad he finally met his match!
I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out, because I am excited to see what happened with Cleo and Ivy! You need to check this series out along with all of Shannon's other books!! Trust me on this one you won't be sorry! You will fall in love with all of them just like I have!

This is part of a series, but each book is a stand-alone because it deals with a separate part of a trio of 2 sisters and their bodyguard friend. In this one, Rayne, a concert pianist has moved to Fircrest with her younger sister, Ivy, and their bodyguard-friend, Cleo, after their parents’ suspicious death. When Rayne meets her new landscaper, Garrett, she is smitten and can’t put two words together whenever she’s around him. This romance is about two amazing people who haven’t learned to trust. They’ve both been hurt in the past and think each other is too good to be true. I love the setting in this book. The town of Fircrest is fun and makes you wish you lived there with all the side characters who work their way into your heart. I’ve read a couple books since this one and they focus on some of the side characters. This author is fun to read and I now want to read Ivy’s story, because she fascinated me.

Clean romance, Christian
Loved revisiting the Fircrest setting. It was a fun read as the bakery gets set up and opened. Cute to read the developing romance with Rayne and Garrett.
Light read. Romance was sweet. There are obviously other stories that will be told with the other characters in this novel. I love a light quick read that is clean. 3 is a good review for me. Reserve it for light reading that I may or may not re-read.

Sigh, this was really good. Kept me up way too late into the night reading it. Shannon Guymon can always suck me into her books...I think it's because the characters seem real and they blurt out things, and they aren't perfect. Great characters, fun story. Loved it.

Moral Note: Talk of murder and attempted murder, shooting, beatings...nothing too graphic.

Now THIS is the type of romance I’ve been waiting for! I love it! No unnecessary swearing or explicit sex scenes. I’d love to read all your books, and for now I’m going to begin with one of your paranormal series. Thank you for this wonderful book.

3.5 stars. This was a cute book. I've heard such great things about Shannon Guymon, so I'd been really excited to read one of her books. I really loved it a first, but it just fell a little short for me as a whole. I wanted to like Rayne, but she had some weird mood swings that were really annoying. Her tantrums just came out of no where, and I didn't really like reading through those. I know that couples have spats like that in real life, so it was realistic...it just wasn't what I wanted to read in an escape book.
I also didn't really see how these characters could know they were in love after only knowing each other for a week or so. That just doesn't happen in real life....usually that is. :) I guess I'm saying that I didn't like the insta-love factor as much because I like to see characters have to really work for their relationship and this one just seemed too easy from the beginning, and I didn't feel like they really had those deep conversations that bond people together. Who knows, maybe I missed that since I was trying to read while entertaining my kids at the same time.
I do have to say that I did devour this book in just under twenty-four hours. So it was still entertaining. I've just become pickier over the years in what I want from a romance. I appreciate that it was very clean. That earns big points from me, especially since there is so much trash out there these days.
Anyway, I know I'm rambling so I'll just stop now. All in all this was a quick, fun read that I'm sure a lot of people would love.
I don't know if I'll finish this series, but I'll give this author another try in the future.

This was my first Shannon Guymon book. I had high expectations from this author considering the great reviews for so many of her books. I had a couple of minor issues with this book:

1/ Although I did enjoy the story, I was not as taken with Garrett and Rayne's romance as I would have liked. For a modern couple, they and their friends were all so moral and respectful, that I did not find it very believable. Garret and Rayne were both in their mid-late 20s yet their attraction to each other and subsequent relationship seemed too sweet and innocent for today's times.

2/There were many grammatical errors which in my opinion, disrupted the flow of the storyline. Many sentences were way too long and overly descriptive. For example:

"Rayne groaned and leaned her head in her hands as she thought of last night as they stood in the bathroom and watched as Ivy had dyed strands of her hair near her neck bright pink from a box she'd picked up at the drug store".

Some characters in this book were introduced and had their stories told in previous Trilogies by this author. I'd like to read those one day then read "Falling for Rayne" again. I might enjoy it more the second time around. In the meantime, I look forward to reading Ivy's story. I liked her character more than Rayne's.

Gripping and vibrant from sentence one!! Readers come across books that are riveting from the start and others that take awhile to get into…Guymon immediately captures hearts with this full of life, clean romance about hope, trust and renewed faith in happy endings!! I especially enjoyed the uniqueness of how Garrett is the one who finally discovers what he’s looking for in Rayne vs. the customary story where the female has to unearth her ‘dream’ guy.

Characters are easy to support and connect with, which makes for an exciting lead in for what is to come. Because the characterization feels so real the storyline comes to life making the time invested well worth it! Guymon is straight to the point in this novel with remarkable plot that links previous characters who add to the flow of the story. Counting down to Book 2!
