Theo Kershaw is the luckiest guy alive .

Roaring back from a life-threatening injury, he has the world at his skates as defenseman for his new team, the Chicago Rebels. Everyone adores his big personality, his on-ice talent, and his killer smile. Everyone but his prickly neighbor--or so he thinks. One chilly Christmas Eve, Theo will learn that maybe the girl next door isn't such a hater after all ...

Elle Butler is the most embarrassing person on the planet.

How else can the ex-military-now-bartender explain her crush on the hot jock who lives across the hall? True, he has gorgeous green eyes and perfect cheekbones, but the filter between his brain and too-sexy mouth is permanently malfunctioning. Yet she can't stop checking out his Instagram antics or sneaking looks at him when he's in her bar. Absolutely mortifying. Running from a past filled with damning secrets, Elle's determined that this guilty pleasure remains buried in her deepest fantasies.

Because she couldn't possibly indulge with the Theo Kershaw. Or make a mistake that draws attention to her under-the-radar life. And she especially couldn't be a mom to a pro-athlete's baby ... could she?

"Sometimes we don’t want to believe the good when it feels too perfect."
I'm going to come out and say it - surprise pregnancy is probably one of my least favorite tropes. Still, I wanted to read this series in order and so I jumped on this one. And, the truth is, the way Kate Meader writes will pull you in regardless of the trope.

"He smelled like naughty nights and dumb jokes and the guy who had all the answers."
Theo Kershaw seemed like a real goofball in the previous book of this series. I wasn't sure if I'd like him. I was wrong. This guy has layers. He is a hockey player with lots of money, and he doesn't seem to take life too seriously. He has an Instagram account he uses to publicize his 'attributes' and tons of followers. However, on the inside... this guy is so much more.

"Who are you, Elle Butler? Why am I so drawn to you?"
I'd also met Elle in the previous book. She was a mystery to me, coming into town, seeming to be running from something, and staying with Theo's friend and teammate, Levi. I could definitely feel like something was off about her, and Kate gave her an original backstory. Let's just say she's afraid the secrets of her past may come back to haunt her and the life she has now.

"I’m not radioactive, y’know. If you want to touch, just ask."
Elle is not supposed to like him, but she watches the Instagram videos he shoots across the hall. Yes, she's a fan. More than she cares to admit. Theo takes everything lightly and wants to live life fully after recovering from a ruptured aneurysm, and he's definitely more than intrigued about his neighbor. So he tries, and he tries, until one Christmas eve...

"That’s what he wanted here. To match her well. To be her mate. To exist at her level."
It's Christmas and Theo is homebound. Elle is staying, unbeknownst to anyone, because she doesn't want to go home. He invades her house thinking no one's there. And the attraction between them, which was definitely already there, turns to full-blown chemistry and let me tell you: these guys are hot!
Side note: I never thought I could have a dinosaur kink, but maybe that's a thing for me now.

"There’s never been a moment when I haven’t seen her."
When she gets pregnant from what happened that day, Theo steps up. He's supportive, he's attentive, and a total sweetheart. Was he looking to start a family? No, but he's there for it. And Ellie is used to fighting her own battles, every step of the way, without any help. She doesn't know how to accept help, and breaking down her walls is going to be hard. Especially since she doesn't see how worthy of happiness she truly is.

Theo is absolutely swoonworthy. It's hard not to fall for the guy and the things he does – and the descriptions of his backside will leave you wishing this was a movie. And, as the book progressed, I just wanted to push them together already. Just go for it, FFS!

"That’s what you are for me, Ellie. True north. My heart and home. The place I’ll always return to."
Of course, Kate delivers on the HEA, and it's heartwarming.
This is a book about embracing life and everything that comes with it, and accepting you're worthy of happiness, and love. You're worthy of a home, regardless of who you are, or what you went through.

And, of course, I can't wait for Gunnar's book. I can already tell it's going to be heartbreaking!

Superglutes is a dreamboat. Theo was the best part of the book that had me laugh out loud and swoon all the way through. Kate Meader's heroes are always the most wonderful men. It's the heroines that sometimes give me a bit of a headache and this was the case with with military veteran Elle in the beginning. She couldn't admit that Theo was one of a kind, charming, upbeat, openhearted and just adorable. This would have been a dealbreaker if it had gone on for too long but - and here is what Kate Meader did totally right - Elle couldn't resist Theo's charm and enthusiasm and alpha maleness.

He smelled like naughty nights and comforting arms and dumb jokes and the guy who had all the answers.

When their supposed one night leads to an unexpected consequence (dude, did you guys check the expiry date?) Elle gets to know the overprotective, tender Theo. And that Theo is irresistible even for prickly Elle. Their chemistry sizzled off the pages and while they took their time to let their friendship grow into more at some point in the story I started to love them as a couple. Theo softened Elle's edges and I started to see why he wanted her. He proved to her that he could compromise and that she could trust him.

“Theo, I didn’t expect this. I didn’t expect you.”

This surprise pregnancy story was really well done - with this hero's medical history there was a possibility for lots of angst but no - there were light moments (courtesy of a hilarious Theo) and some emotional ones, because both Theo and Elle wanted to be loved for who they were. I always look forward to reconnecting with characters from Kate's previous books so naturally I was excited and happy to see Violet, Dante, Cade and all the other beloved characters from the Chicago Rebels.

I thought Instacrush was very well balanced and super-fun to read.

“That’s what you are for me, Ellie. True north. My heart and home. The place I’ll always return to.”

This is book two in the Rookie Rebels series, a spin-off from the Chicago Rebels series, and reunites us with two obviously-going-to-start-something non-couple from the background of book one's story, Elle Butler, army buddy of Levi Hunt's, and now bartender at the local team's bar, and Theo Kershaw, chatty sunshine defenseman with the bubble butt. And let me tell you, both of their backstories took me kinda by surprise.

This would've been an easy story to keep light and focus on the I-want-you-but-won't-admit-to-it element that Elle had in regards to dealing with Theo. Instead we get a rockier history to Theo's life, both with his upbringing and then with a major health scare, plus Elle's got a lot of reasons for her toughness and walls; and they aren't limited to just being in the army. I'll admit her backstory was interesting because it was different, particularly for a sports contemporary romance, but there were also elements that felt a little unbelievable, much more in line with the soap opera storylines that a few of the players enjoy so much, and in general I felt Elle's character arc to be less consistent. Whereas Theo was a joy and his ups and downs felt very true to form and appropriate to some of his growth.

Additionally there's a plot element to this romance that is not my favourite, nor in how they were made to approach it, but. It didn't piss me off, either, so, win?

What might have been my favourite part, beyond Theo and his Thirsty Instagram Stories, was catching up with all the familiar faces. I loved where some of their lives had gone, what they were doing, and I'm hella keen for Gunnar's story as that's clearly being set up for book three. I expect tons of angst and I want it. Particularly after this rather sugary book. Give me angst and feels.

This isn't quite the awesome, dying seconds of overtime goal kind of winning story, but it was a fun way to pass a sunday afternoon. And I am keen to read on, so, another win.

This was so much fun to read! I don't think the smile ever left my face, and there were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments thanks to Theo's hilarious and utterly charming personality. He was the perfect hero in every way! Full of witty banter, smokin' hot chemistry, and tons of heart, INSTACRUSH is one of my top reads of 2019. Meader continues to kill it with her hockey hunks, and I can't wait to read the next one!

From Insta-crush to Insta-daddy ...

My hot hockey player neighbor is the most annoying man on the planet ... and I don't have a crush on him (okay, it's tiny, miniscule, not even worth talking about). But one sexy Santa visit, a plate of chicken parm, and a pair of dino-briefs later - don't ask - and we're celebrating the holidays horizontally. And that mistake leads to another: the pregnant kind. Oops.

My first surprise pregnancy romance! This was such a blast to write, especially because Theo "Superglutes" Kershaw is my swooniest hero yet. He's funny, driven, and ready to step up to fatherhood ... if only Elle will let him. I hope you enjoy this hot and humorous standalone hockey romance in the Rookie Rebels series!

4 stars. Better than I expected!

It's all too common when reading romance to know exactly the direction that the story is going to take. I liked that this book didn't end up being totally straightforward, but had a few twists at the end that kept me interested.

I've only read two books from this series thus far, and am working through a third. So far, I'm impressed by Kate Meader's writing style and the content of her stories. They are pretty well done for the sports romance genre.

Safe; both H&h have been celibate for some time. H not a manwhore, h not a virgin, no om/ow drama, no cheating.

No real review except to say I luvved Theo, Elle tried my patience with her stubbornness a time or two(but I ended up loving her) and let me give a shout out to the author for an excellent series. I especially love how she gives her characters interesting backgrounds and not the same old same old. Lots of chemistry in this one too! I could’ve read 100 more pages in this one and not gotten bored.

Heroine and her parents and sister were cartoonish two dimensional characters. Theo is awesome sauce, with a bit of irrational and over the top thrown in.

Most of the stuff hero (but heroine as well) did made no sense. At least we know he had been attracted to her from the start (from previous book). What was her problem? Woe is me, my parents are shit. Um, OK. Why didn't she want to be with him? I still don't understand.

Theo kept calling her smart and saying their kid better have her intelligence. I never saw any sign of this intelligence, she was painfully average. No education, no smart choices in life. Yeah, she went into the army and sorta kinda separated from the fam, but come on.

Because he "fixed" her family for her, she went to bat for him to fix his, but again - it was clunky and awkward. She just accosted his father in a restaurant... why? Oh yeah, to fulfill her part of fixing things.

Her sister was on the run from mob, but them Theo magically turned it into a love affair? Gag.

This whole book felt like it followed the romance novel script and kept checking points off (instant sexual chemistry - check! She plays hard to get - check! Bad parents - check! Accidental baby - check! He fixes her family and she fixes his - check!) but the parts didn't fit well.

I don't know why I still keep reading KM's books. I think it's because of the heroes, they are all great, they have depth and they grow. They are all hunks (athletes and firefighters) and funny. Too bad she pairs them with nincompoops. These heroes deserve better women.

This book seems to come highly recommended and yet it’s the first book in months that I almost gave up on.. I just finished it because I’m more of a “finish what you started” person but boy, did I struggle.

Don’t get me wrong, I had no trouble with most of the characters, especially Theo. He was great! So responsible, open, brave, lovely and all around amazing. Who wouldn’t fall in love with him? Which brings me to the only character I never did warm up to: Elle. She spent three quarters of the book tryIng to convince us readers that she’s not like her awful family yet she switches back and forth between being unnecessarily cruel(calling the baby a “problem” and “spawn” knowing it would hurt Theo) to creating unnecessary drama(going to meet dangerous people without telling the baby daddy where she’s going therefore putting the baby at risk). Even when she “changes”, it doesn’t really seem like it because we get to see so little of this new and reformed Elle which made it really hard for me to sympathize with her.

So if you like wishy-washy female characters with hot romantic interests, this might be right up your alley. This just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Okay. So.

I’m just going to need a minute to process all the ways I have fallen hopelessly, helplessly, wholeheartedly in love with Theo Kershaw.

Good. Gracious. This guy.

I mean, as if being a hunky hockey god with famously glorified superglutes wasn’t enough, he was also funny and sweet and so wonderfully steadfast in his feelings for Elle. He was the perfect balance of incorrigible flirt and swoonworthy romantic with just a smidge of growly alpha for good measure. He was perfection. Absolute perfection.

I loved how his relationship with Elle evolved. I loved how he lightened their dark moments. I loved how he loved her. I also loved how real it felt. I was frustrated with Elle sometimes, but what I particularly loved about how this story played out is that Theo was frustrated with her sometimes too. And he let that be known, pushing her when she needed to be pushed and providing a soft place to land when she needed that from him too. He was everything and I adored him beyond measure.

And – in the end, I adored Elle too. She was a much tougher nut to crack. But once she opened her heart, it was impossible not to cheer for her and her inevitable happily-ever-after with Theo. The pacing of this story was just perfect – their burn somehow slow and sizzling even as it flamed brightly early on. It took them a while to finally get on the same page, but I never felt frustrated with it. Ms. Meader took the time needed to sort through all the emotions and baggage and clear the room in their heart so they had space for each other. And, frankly, it was lovely.

On top of that, the banter between them was an absolute delight – witty and sparky and full of chemistry. Insta Crush was such a fun read. It felt light and flirty even as it tackled some decidedly serious emotional conflict. It was perfectly balanced, engagingly told, and I could not be happier (or, honestly, more in love) with this story. ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

Theo’s story was so much MORE than I was expecting! He’s such an extrovert and wears everything on his sleeve, but his deeper emotions, bossiness, and protective instincts came roaring out when it came to his feelings for Elle and their unexpected bundle. I admit, I simply adored getting to the core of what made Theo tick!

Elle was the polar opposite of Theo. Introverted, holding her feelings close to the heart, and kind of lost on what to do with her life. So what made them gel together? Elle could be just as bossy and protective of Theo, and everyone knows never to rile up a mama bear...

Their romance was quite the push and pull from Elle, but when the sparks start flying and everything is aligned.... yep, these two were pretty combustible. And a few of those hilarious sexy moments-I was totally in stitches!

I swear, Kate Meader has the market when it comes to banter! Sexy, sarcastic, emotional hilarious...take a pick! Theo and Elle’s conversations took on a life of their own, becoming a wickedly fun flirtation and eventually turning into deeper, edgier depths. I was swept away by Theo’s super sweet, larger than life personality and I was sympathetic to Elle’s emotional insecurities. Granted, Elle could be frustrating when she dug her heels in-frequently- however, it was easy to see what she couldn’t. I really loved the parenting advice/conversations/horror stories of birth moments of the Chicago Rebels team members and also enjoyed catching up with quite a few of them, especially Dante and Cade;)

Basically, I loved Theo and his ‘Superglutes’ self and seeing him working towards his HEA was one wild and satisfying ride!

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Instacrush was an instalove for me!

Theo and his sunshine stole every scene in The Good Guy but now we get to see all his sides and they’re all as perfect as his superglutes! The minute he saw Elle he was a goner, and secretly so was she, now after a very hot holiday hookup they have to figure out each other, their feelings, their families, parenting, and playoff hockey!

Instacrush is a perfect addition to the world of the Chicago Rebels and even gives us a chance to catch up with some old friends and their growing families!

I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.

I fell in love with Theo in the previous Rebel Rookies book, and was so excited to get to know him better. If I were writing a "wanted" ad describing Theo, it would go something like this:

In search of an adorable goofball, who has fought his way back from devastating health issues. He must be sweet and big hearted, able cook, and adore his grandma. He should be willing to give his time and money to charitable causes, and be able steal my heart with his devilish grin.

Seriously, every minute on-page with Theo was a treat. Each new facet of his personality and his life, that Meader revealed to me, made me love him more and more. So, yeah, I guess I should order my jacket, because I am definitely ready to be one of "Theo's Tarts".

Obviously, I loved the hero of this story, but I was also a fan of the pairing. The two were so different from each other, but they were fantastic together. Chemistry, banter, heat -- it was all there, but there was so much more to their relationship.

Both Theo and Elle had family issues, which made it difficult for them to trust people. Though Theo was raised by his loving grandmother, he still ached from his mother's rejection. Elle's family was very complicated. Because of the "family business", she could never trust them or their motivations, and this made it difficult for her to open up to others, and form solid connections. It was wonderful seeing Theo barrel through those layers to find something real with Elle, first as a friend, and then as more.

And, then there was the surprise baby. I guess it wasn't such a huge surprise for us, since it's part of the synopsis, but it was a surprise for Elle and Theo. It was very sweet watching Theo claim his role of future dad. He was supportive and doted on Elle, as she struggled with her reservations about motherhood and her future. Watching this tough as nails and very guarded women turn to mush was a thing of beauty. Seeing her making new connections, and accepting that she could be part of this found family was even better, and it warmed my heart.

You know what else I loved? How much time I got to spend with the Chase sisters and the rest of the Chicago Rebels family. Meader gave them such a big role in this book, AND there were quite a few new and interesting developments for some of them. That was a special treat for me!

My overall experience with this book was fantastic. I don't know how Meader will create a hero more lovable than Theo, but I am looking forward to the next Rebel Rookie book.

With Instacrush, Kate Meader provides a sweet, sexy and fun addition to her Rookie Rebels series showcasing the ever optimistic NHL defenseman Theo Kershaw and the only woman who’s been able to resist his magnetic charm.

After surviving a life-threatening injury, Theo developed a voracious appetite for life. He’s back on the ice better than before and his Instagram feed is full of fun and sexy material everyone loves. Except, his gorgeous and grumpy neighbor who’s shown him nothing but aloofness. Until he catches her home alone on Christmas Eve and tempts her with homemade brownies and his too drop dead gorgeous smile.

Ex-military Elle Butler has a big time crush on the “hockey god, grocery thief, and possessor of the finest @$$ she’d ever ogled” but would never admit it, much less act upon it. Even though the man with the best derriere she’s ever seen is constantly flirting with her. But their Christmas Eve party of two gives them a gift that will tie them for life, will her secrets and past encumber any future they might have together?

The attraction between Elle and Theo was wonderfully fun and kept me engaged from start to finish. I loved both characters, but especially Theo with his swoony, fun, sexy and thoughtful antics.
“…I like dinosaurs.”
“How could I forget those dino-brief?”
“And how could I forget your mating call?”
He cupped his mouth and yelled, “Teee-Rexxxxx!”

He’s a total sweetheart who wasn’t necessarily looking for a family, but once the opportunity presented itself he was all in ready to shower them with love. I just loved how much love Theo was willing to give, be patient and show Elle her worth.

And as characters go, I pretty much loved every single one Kate included in this exciting hockey instalment from Theo’s grandmother who is such a great person, super fun and loving, to all his teammates and especially their partners whose wisdom was invaluable. The next book in this series can’t come fast enough!
“The men must be test, their balls of steel forged in the hell-fire of their pregnant womenfolk’s fury,” Violet intoned before she added with a grin, “Cookie?”

Instacrush it is book #2 of the Rookie Rebels series by author Kate Meader. It is a standalone hockey romance, told from both points of view with a happy ending.

Basic math: one cinny roll of hockey player hero with fabulous glutes + one prickly, secretive heroine +cute ONS + surprise pregnancy = cute, if middle of the road, romance.

Theo Kershaw has been the easygoing, sweet guy with great hockey talent, but a brain aneurysm derailed his plans, ending up on the Chicago Rebels hockey team as a comeback kid. He’s adorable, the opposite of broody, and his sweetness is a contrast to Elle Butler’s cranky demeanor but I dig that. Speaking of, Theo’s been digging on Elle since the first book, so when I saw this book come out I snagged it right quick.

This is one of those romances that I enjoyed but had the potential to be so much more. The story was a little disjointed, and while the psychological damage inflicted by their parents is interesting, there’s not enough follow through. I liked their chemistry, but it couldn’t make up for a dependence on repeating the same refrain “I’m not good enough for him, oh wait she thinks I’m not good enough for her” instead of focusing on their legitimate emotional issues, and then it wraps them up fairly quickly right at the end. There’s decent humor and I happen to like the ‘verse Ms. Meader has created here with the Chicago Rebels, so I could look past this and go along for the ride. This was just….fine. It wasn’t the top tier for me, and it wasn’t the bottom either. Just nice.

But if you’re in the market for just an easy read with a bit of humor, heat and sweet, you may enjoy this more than I did.

Spicy, romantic, and downright addictive!

Instacrush is a lighthearted, passionate rom-com featuring the private, feisty Elle who may or may not be secretly crushing on the heartthrob with the killer buns who lives next door, and the sexy, charismatic Theo who may be more of a thoughtful, sweet, standup guy than anyone gave him credit for.

The writing is witty and playful. The characters are charming, gregarious, and endearing. And the plot is the perfect combination of family, friendship, temptation, desire, palpable chemistry, sizzling attraction, tender moments, sexy times, light drama, and hockey.

Overall, Instacrush is a steamy, fun, swoony edition to the Rookie Rebels series by Meader that will not only please fans of her previous Chicago Rebels novels, but will have you laughing out loud, dreaming of a delicious, worthy book boyfriend, and will without a doubt leave you craving more.

Thank you Kate Meader for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The book get better as it went along, like much better, including the sex. In the beginning, it just really annoyed me how Elle was like let's do no strings when Theo was the perfect guy. Also everyone was teasing Theo about how he loves to talk and sometimes doesn't think before opening his mouth, but I didn't really see examples of this. I mean yeah, he liked to talk on his Instagram, but he didn't seem to talk an excessive amount with other people. And Elle didn't even seem that smart. The author certainly didn't help her case when Elle didn't understand what a meta-analysis was even after Theo explained it.

The sharpest blade on the ice... that was funny.

the plot got more interesting with Elle's family trying to con Theo.
I also liked how Theo wasn't your stereotypical, hot hockey player (though he was very hot). You could say both had an instant crush on each other, especially Theo, even though I feel the author is referring to Elle in the title.

I loved Theo ❤️ He is just so kind, loving, understanding, loyal... and probably way to perfect, but that's part of the perks in romance.
Elle was discharged from the army and now is trying to find out what to do for the rest of her life (I think she is 26 years old). Meanwhile, she decided to stay in Chicago with her friend Levi Hunt (I didn't read it, but the first book is about him), a hockey player just like Theo. And yes, that's how she gets to know him, because he lives right across from them and is always visiting them.
Both of them kind of have a crush for the other. And one Christmas, they act on it and have sex. But it is a one time thing. Only she ends up pregnant.
I really liked their story, but I needed a different epilogue, at least a bit longer.

As much as I loved the characters, the chemistry between them did not impress me. They were too different and their one-night stand seemed accidental in the same way you bump into someone then step aside and end up bumping into them again.... passionless and awkward.

Theo was so lighthearted and carefree while Elle was serious and closed-off. The author over-described Theo as being extremely attractive while I struggled to get a clear idea of what she looked like. He had nothing in common with her and she didn’t share much with him.

Elle gave hot and cold impressions to Theo. I felt he deserved better... her lack of communication sucked. He was a sweetheart and it killed me to read him misunderstand her feelings.

This installment lands somewhere between 2.5 and 3 stars.

The beginning was very promising and I loved the chemistry and easy banter between Elle and Theo but then it ventured into a trope that I'm not particularly fond of (one-night-stand followed by an accidental pregnancy).

Moreover, I felt like there was a bit too much back-and-forth going on between Theo and Elle? At times it was as if I've been rereading the same argument over and over again.

Anyway, overall this book has been a fun experience, largely due to Theo, who is just too precious for this world xD

2.5-2.75 stars

This was okay. Grumpy(h)/sunshine(H), so I found that pairing fun. The H gives golden retriever energy, he’s just really cute and sweet and hard to get mad at. This has a trope I enjoy (accidental pregnancy) but I just wish the build up between the H and h and the tension afterwards were better. Their lust to like to love progression wasn’t very tangible/believable at times. Idk I just wanted a little more from this. It’s also a spin-off from another series so there are a lot of characters/storylines brought up that I’m sure is fun for avid readers but was a bit much at times for a newbie like myself. Overall though didn’t hate it and it kept me reading so 🤷🏼‍♀️ oh and this was another freebie from stuff your kindle day.

2 1/2. Too much. He's back to full strength after an aneurysm almost killed him! He's the secret child of a politician! Her parents are grifters! Her roommate was a green beret and is now a pro hockey player! Just too, too many elements. Also, terrible title that isn't massively relevant and a weirdly conservative vibe.

Theo, the hero here, knows how to work it, folks. Whether it be flashing his million dollar smile, nailing the Chicago Rebels hockey puck in the opponent’s net, or just coming across as Mr. Happy Go Lucky on instagram, this guy has it going on. But behind the hockey mask, famous, handsome face, and cocky, carefree facade is a damaged heart secretly yearning to be loved unconditionally.

Elle isn’t even close to wrapping her mind around the situation she soon finds herself after giving into temptation with Theo. Her family baggage weighs heavy enough on her she’s always looking over her shoulder expecting to be sucked back into their drama/lifestyle.

Both of these destined to be together lovebirds long for a real family that can be their soft place to fall. It just takes one of them longer than the other to let go and surrender unconditionally and completely to love.

Theo was my favorite part of this romantic tale. I loved how he didn’t hesitate to go with the flow and stepped right up to the plate immediately. In fact, this mountain of muscle wouldn’t be swayed. He was all in from the get go. Elle, despite a touch here and there of knuckleheaded notions, was a really good person, too.

As usual, this author’s writing flows seamlessly and gets quite steamy at times. Overall, I enjoyed getting to know Theo better, who’s been in previous books, and Elle’s character, as well. She was sassy, strong, and resilient, yet her vulnerability made her reluctant to give herself credit for deserving a HEA.

One thing I know for certain is if you want to score an entertaining romantic read, let Kate Meader make your day. Whether it be in the kitchen, on the hockey rink, fire station, or court room, she has it going on. You owe it to yourself to check out all her series: Hot in the Kitchen, Chicago Rebels, Hot in Chicago, Laws of Attraction. She seems to nail it perfectly each and every time.

Ughhhhh I found this so frustrating. I really liked the other books that I’ve read in this series, AND this is one of my favorite tropes. But this book was so frustrating. The entire conflict hinges on the fact that the heroine wants to keep everyone protected from her grifter family and her amazing solution to this is to just hide her family from the people she wants to protect. Uhhhh what. The way you protect someone from scamming is to tell them UP FRONT that they could be at risk of being scammed and to make sure they’re prepared and know the signs. Like…. there is zero logical reason for her to withhold the information. She knows she’s connected to this guy for their rest of their lives and their baby is going to have con artist grandparents, he’s gunna find out eventually. Her keeping this a secret is so drawn out and so dumb. Sure it creates a drama, but it’s not one that makes sense.

And then her making dumb decisions, running off, then bailing out her crappy family… ugh just cut ties. Seriously.
