Short, sweet read. I agree it's a stand alone, however I felt like I was missing something important. Can't put my finger on it. It was really sweet though. There wasn't steamy scenes if you are looking for that.

This was the perfect example of why I love Katy's writing so much! I opened my Kindle meaning to just finish the first chapter... and then finished the book with tears in my eyes and a big, goofy grin on my face.

The Wedding Date focuses on Jasmine and Robert, who meet at her sister's wedding and have an immediate, mutual attraction. Robert is looking for that one special girl and as soon as he lays eyes on Jasmine, he realises that he could well have found her. Jasmine never knew the love of her father and is too afraid of being hurt to allow herself to believe in the possibility of a happily ever after. Can Robert get her to open her heart?

This story was everything I've come to expect from Katy. It was adorable, sensual, and incredibly touching. Despite their moments, I liked that they did think and behave like rational people. I could identify with both Jasmine and Robert and I thought they were well deserving of a good break.

If you're a fan already, The Wedding Date is a must read. If not, you should give it a try... and see if you can't help yourself believing that fairy tales really do happen to ordinary people.

THE WEDDING DATE is a stand-alone story. You do not need to have read Lucy Kevin's Four Weddings and a Fiasco series to understand or enjoy my story... however, if you like sweet romance, I'd definitely recommend them to you!

Sweeten up your Kindle with the combination of Bella Andre's beloved Rose Chalet characters and Katy Regnery's signature sweet heat and happily ever after!

Written with permission from Bella Andre and using characters from her Four Weddings and a Fiasco books (published under her pseudonym, Lucy Kevin) "The Wedding Date" tells the sweet love story of curvy, vulnerable Jasmine Turner and hot, teasing Robert Callahan, two single college students who meet at a wedding and somehow end up falling love.
.
What a delight to contribute a story to Lucy Kevin's Four Weddings and a Fiasco world! Huge thanks to Bella Andre for inviting me to share a love story in her "world"!!

Pov: male & female

Main characters: Robert & Jasmine

Minor characters: Anne (her half sister)

My thoughts:

This was a short story that was part of a collection of stories by multiple authors. I didn’t read any of the other stories. There was some confusion about who people were and how they connect to the main characters, but since the story is short not much time is given to extra characters so it doesn’t really matter.

The downside to this being such a short story was the pacing. The characters meet and fall in love over a single night. The magnitude of their connection seemed a little implausible, and the way she was so quick to abandon all her beliefs was a little impractical. And they each had such full backstories it was a lot to process. This could have easily been a full length novel. Maybe their history came up in the other stories, but I didn’t bother to read them.

Ignoring the insta love this story was pretty good.

Synopsis:

Jasmine was raised by a single mother. She found out her biological father was married and had an affair with her mom creating her. He was not in her life and she assumed it was because he wanted nothing to do with her and she was a mistake.

She was an early developer who was shy and bookish. Boys teased her for being into books and teased her figure. In high school the boys were interested in her chest. She didn’t trust them because they were mean to her previously. When she got to college she assumed the boys would not be interested in her because she was a size 14.

She was always very self conscious. And because of her dad and boys in general she didn’t believe in love.

When she got older she found out her dad died and left all his money to his other daughter Anne. She was angry that Anne was acknowledged by her father while she was a mistake to him so she sued Anne.

They ended up becoming friends and she found out her mom told her dad to stay away. That his presence in her life would just confuse her.

She went to college to become a teacher. She studies Shakespeare and wants to teach English.

A year after the lawsuit Anne is getting married and invites Jasmine. She still feels a little uncomfortable around Anne’s friends and family but decides to go.

Robert was the youngest of 3 boys. When he was in high school his dad cheated on his mom and they divorced. He and his mom moved to be close to her family but his brothers stayed with their dad to finish out their senior year.

He had trouble making friends and was angry all the time. He fell in with a bad crowd and eventually started dealing drugs.

His mom started dating a detective and he kept dealing. His dealer pressured him into trying drugs once and he ended up getting caught by the cops. He went to jail for the night and was terrified.

His mom’s boyfriend stepped in and tampered with the evidence and booking files so Robert was let go. He was ashamed it happened in the first place but thankful to have a second chance.

He had to repeat his sophomore year of high school and his classmates never warmed up to him. He was a swimmer but wasn’t allowed on the team because he was a bad influence. Girls would make out with him at parties but wouldn’t go near him during school days. He was lonely. He wanted to be in a relationship.

He graduated and went to college and got on the swim team. His goal is to become a p.e. teacher and swim coach.

His stepdads partner is marrying Anne so they’re friendly. She helped him get a part time job at her friends restaurant.

Anne asked him to come to her wedding and hang out with Jasmine. She explained Jasmine wouldn’t really know anyone there and everyone is much older than her. That she didn’t want Jasmine to feel alone or uncomfortable. He agrees to do it.

They meet each other at the wedding and he’s blown away by how beautiful she is. She thinks he’s gorgeous but knows someone like him wouldn’t go after a chubby girl like her.

He sits with her during the ceremony and gives her a handkerchief when she cries. They talk about their studies and are attracted to each other instantly.

They talk about love and romance and how she doesn’t believe in it. He knows her dads story and tells her her parents mistakes are not hers.

She knows a little about his backstory from Anne and he’s embarrassed by it.

He asks her out to a play at their school, where he works as an usher. She’s scared of how quickly she’s growing to like him and emphasizes they can go as friends. She doesn’t want to get her hopes up for something more because she doesn’t think it would work out.

He jokes with her that she couldn’t possibly not be interested in him. That she’s hurt by her dad. That she’s very beautiful. She’s moved and they kiss.

He asks her out again and mentions he knows a girl who can get them backstage. She pulls away and he realizes she thinks all men will cheat on her. He wants to prove to her he isn’t like that.

He tells her he isn’t with anyone except her and she gets scared and excuses herself. He knows he pushed her too hard too fast, but he wants to make sure they see each other again.

She talks herself down and rationalizes it’s ok to enjoy his company as long as she doesn’t get attached. That when they get back to school he’ll have his pick of girls.

She finds him at the reception and asks if they can just enjoy each others company. He agrees. The party ends and they share a dance. He offers to take her home so they can spend more time together.

He takes her home and kisses her. She invites him in and they spend the night talking in the back yard. He worries she won’t go out with him because of his past so he tells her everything. She tells him he made a mistake but he’s turned his life around. He knows he’s falling for her.

He asks her to sit with him because he wants her closer. She thinks she’s too heavy for his lap. He tells her she’s beautiful and curvy. That he likes her. That looking at her moves him and he doesn’t want her to talk badly about herself.

He asks her out again and she agrees. They plan a date the following weekend. They end up back on the couch and fall asleep together.

In the morning he tells her he can’t wait until Friday for their date. That he wants to see her sooner. She’s hesitant and he knows he’s pushing again and backs off.

They go to a wedding brunch together and everyone can see they’re an item. He has to leave early for a catering job and she asks him to meet her at her apartment on Tuesday. That they can hang out and do their homework together. She doesn’t want them to be a distraction to each other.

They kiss goodbye and promise to meet on Tuesday. She goes back to the brunch and overhears Anne and her husband arguing about them. Anne’s husband says Robert is a bad guy and Anne shouldn’t have asked him to be Jasmines date. Anne tells him Robert has changed and that he’s just doing her a favor by getting close to Jasmine.

Jasmine is devastated and leaves.

Anne finds Robert and explains what happened. He knows Jasmine has trust issues and insecurities and won’t believe him if he tries calling or texting. He knows he needs to make a big gesture to win her back.

He arranges to give a speech after the play on Tuesday and asks Anne to make sure she’s there.

Jasmine goes home and when he doesn’t call or text it makes her think she was right to have doubts. She knows her feelings for him are real and that she was falling in love with him.

Anne invites her to a play on Tuesday and won’t let her back out.

They go out for dinner first and Anne apologizes. Anne tells her no guy would act towards her the way he did it he wasn’t interested. That he likes her for her. That their dad doesn’t get to decide who loves them or who they love.

She realizes Anne is right and rushes to the swim center to find him and apologize.

She finds him and explains she felt if her did didn’t love her how could any other guy. That she knows they’re not at love but she wants to believe he really likes her. He tells her he more than likes her.

She tells him she’s going to get scared and run sometimes but if he’s patient with her she’ll come back. That she might try to push him away but she needs him to not let her.

She asks for a second chance and he says yes.

The Wedding Date is a standalone short story from Katy Regnery using the characters from Lucy Kevin's (Bella Andre) Four Weddings and a Fiasco series. I had never read the Four Weddings and a Fiasco series or anything by Katy Regnery before, but I had no problems getting into this story. It was short and sweet and a really cute read. When Jasmine Turner heads to her half sister's wedding, she is worried that not only will she be younger than most of the guests but that she will be alone and not know anyone there. Jasmine's sister Anne asks Robert Callahan to look after her and make sure that she has a good time. Jasmine and Robert immediately hit it off, and after much convincing Robert gets Jasmine to agree to go on a date with him. But despite how well things are going, when Jasmine finds out that Anne had something to do with them meeting she begins to question Robert's feelings for her. Can Robert convince her that he is worth taking a chance on?

Robert was really easy to like. He was sweet and kind, and also fun and playful. He was laid back and easy to root for. I loved how he made Jasmine feel comfortable right away, and I thought that they were really cute together right from the start. I loved that he gave her the nickname Mina and that he was able to get her to see herself differently. She was left with a lot of insecurities and trust issues because of her father, and Robert helped her to see that she was beautiful and that she deserved a chance at happiness. I liked how he let her see that love is worth taking the risk and that sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. Jasmine was used to feeling like she was unwanted and that she was not worthy because of her body type as well as being a product of her father cheating on his wife with her mother. Because of the circumstances of her birth she found it hard to trust, but I liked that Robert was different for her. I thought that they had great chemistry right from the start, and that they also had some common interests. They just clicked right away, and it was great to see them open to the possibility of something between them.

I do feel like their relationship happened very quickly, but it felt believable to me. I liked that they weren't declaring their love for one another or rushing things, but that they still ended on a happy and hopeful note. I think that this was a great short story and Katy Regnery did a really fantastic job of taking a few pages and giving the reader a realistic and believable couple. I often times have problems with novellas and short stories just feeling too rushed for me to ever be happy with them, but I think that this one was done really well and was able to pull it off. If you are looking for a sweet and short read that will leave you happy and satisfied, I would definitely recommend checking this novella out. I think that fans of the Four Weddings and a Fiasco series will really enjoy this one, and after reading it I can't wait to go and read that series. I look forward to reading Lucy Kevin's books as well as more from Katy Regnery in the future.

Katy Regnery's The Wedding Date was inspired by Lucy Kevin's Four Weddings and a Fiasco series. Although I haven’t read any of the original novels regarding the characters of Rose Chalet that did not in any way affect my immediate fondness for Jasmine and Robert, as well as the other characters. I am an avid reader of Katy Regnery novels so this was an obvious must read for me.

Despite both Jasmine's and Robert's uncertainty and lack of trust in the opposite sex because of past life experiences, they quickly sensed not only a physical attraction to one another, but also a degree of comfort as well. As the hours pass while attending Jasmine’s sister’s wedding, they each begin to let go of their emotions, opening up their souls to express to the other the circumstances of their past which lead them to become who they are. But will they both be able to overcome those obstacles which have always caused them to keep a tight rein on their hearts to allow Jasmine and Robert into each other's souls and finally discover a love for which they had always hoped they would find?

The Wedding Date is a novella telling a fairytale story of finding love when you least expect it. The chemistry and connection between Jasmine and Robert was wonderful and absolutely perfect. I couldn’t put my Kindle down once I started reading this story and stole every possible minute I could to finish it. If you are looking for a quick read which tells a sweet tale of falling in love that will make you smile, then I would definitely recommend this book.

The Wedding Date is a sweet story about young love and I loved every moment of this!

The Wedding Date is a stand-alone story that has characters from Lucy Kevin’s Four Weddings and a Fiasco series. I haven’t read this series but now I really want to. I’m so curious about the supporting characters stories. But The Wedding Date focuses on Jasmine and Robert who meet at the wedding of Jasmine’s half-sister. Right away sparks fly but both have insecurities. Jasmine is insecure because of her weight and how she has been treated in the past. Robert has made some bad choices and feels that he will always have to prove himself. I love Jasmine and Robert because they are characters everyone can relate with. Both are afraid to take chances because they don’t want to get hurt, and we can all identify with that fear.

Author Katy Regnery created a short and quick story that is filled with sweet romance. I’m a huge fan of this author and this story will make you a fan of hers too!

The Wedding Date is a perfect story to add some romance to your day!

Wonderful novella about two young adults who meet at a wedding. They are both in their twenties and go to the same university. Jasmine is there to support her stepsister on her wedding day. Robert is there to support his stepfather's best friend on his wedding day. He has been asked to keep Jasmine company during the wedding celebration. What happens once these two meet, is beyond anyone's expectations. A fire is lit, chemistry takes over, and the roaring flame of love promises to consume them.

I found the writing, the plotline and the characters to be extremely entertaining. Because it is only 95 pages long, this is a wonderful book to read if you have a couple of hours to escape into emotional romantic escapade.

It is a novella so it is short and it is also very sweet. The characters are young, still in college, so it does fall into the New Adult category but they’ve been thru a lot in their short lives so they have a good amount of maturity for their ages. I loved seeing them make a connection and take some time to explore it. There is the typical misunderstanding that is very common to romances but Regnery handles it with style and it doesn’t feel like the same old thing. Their issues are very understandable and I really enjoyed how they make their HEA work for them.

***Received as an ARC from NETGALLEY in exchange for an honest review***

This was a cute (and SHORT) novella that takes you through the paces of a first date during a wedding (pre-arranged but one party is unaware) that escalates pretty quickly to deeper feelings. I do feel a little lost as there are a myriad of references to the main characters' pasts that I could only take at face value because I did not have the privilege of reading the first three books in this series. This features YA and therefore a lot of teen er young adult angst and insecurities.

I toyed with putting this at a solid 3.5, but I really did enjoy it, so I threw it up as 4.

It's definitely a romance, and a novella, so things progress really fast. It's not my ideal kind of romance, but it IS the genre, so I'd never deduct points for that. It's sweet, with character progress and change. I thought I saw the ending coming, but I totally didn't. That earned a lot of points.

Another of Regnery's great work.

This book stole my heart. I love being able to feel the emotions that the characters are feeling! Jasmine (or Mina as Robert calls her. I love that!) has closed her heart off to love because she has been hurt by people in her love that should have loved her. When Robert shows up, she learns to open up and take the risk. Although it's a short book, Katy perfectly detailed each and every moment to make you feel like you are a part of Mina and Robert's love story. Another great read!

The Wedding Date

I love a good romance story. Katy Regnery must have Romance flowing through her like blood. Her stories never fail to bring a satisfied sigh and smile as I finish the last page. I love her characters and their antics. And I'm always delighted with her happy endings. I pepper her stories between the mystery books I read to keep a nice balance of intrigue, suspense and romance in my reading. She's a favorite of mine.

This short novella is based on a character from "Four Weddings and a Fiasco" series by Lucy Kevin (aka Bella Andre). I haven't read this series (or anything else by this author) but I WAS into reading more by Katy and so I added this one to my list.

I gotta say it's not what I expected mostly because this one is sort of Young Adult novella in the way the characters were acting. I mean, he's 19 and she's 20 so basically this SHOULD have been more of a New Adult, but both characters FELT very young. They were SWEET, so so sweet, and endearing, and really deserving each other and to be happy but it also made the story a little bit, well, sappy.

My one big "complaint" though isn't their age or "sappiness", because let's face it, this IS a romance story so it's something we expect especially when the couple meet at a weeding.. I didn't like the insecurities both of them had. They took much of a front seat. Jasmine is full figured and so feels insecure about the way she looks especially since Robert is GORGEOUS, on the swim team.. and why would he notice someone like her? Robert is insecure because he made a few mistakes in his past (dealing with drugs), he was worried Jasmine wouldn't take him seriously or think he's just a bad boy and so not someone to have a real relationship with - though it's exactly what he wants. These insecurities moves the plot along. We kept hearing them again and again in their inner dialogue as well as in their conversations with one another. In a way THAT'S what made it feel like a Young Adult novella for me, a sort of self absorbed look at the world. I"m not sure if I'm making any sense here but that's the way I saw/felt about it.

It's a sweet story really about finding love when you least expect it or ready for it to fall on you, in the most natural and in a way unnatural place - a wedding. Sadly it's not my cup of tee so though the writing was great and the characters were sweet (yeah I used this word a TON in this review but that's the best way for me to describe them..) I didn't connect with them. I saw there are a lot of great reviews of this one which is very deserving, this is just my opinion so I suggest you try reading more reviews before taking mine - you might absolutely love it!

What do you do when you come from a background with a huge lack of trust? One of the two at a young age rebels and gets into trouble with the law. When he is given a second chance Robert Callahan, 19, becomes a student at South Oregon University (SOU), and hold on with both hands. He doesn’t have much time to date with swim team, practice/training, school/studying, and working to earn money for school extras. He has a goal and he is meeting and working toward each one.
He is asked by the bride of the wedding he will be attending with his family to be her new found step-sister’s unofficial date. She doesn’t know anyone and since they are both under 30 it would be nice for her. He agrees since Anne and Gareth, mainly have great to him and giving him a chance. Plus Anne has been trying to hook them up for a while since her sister, Jasmine Turner, 21, goes to SOU too. Jasmine has not made that easy.
Jasmine has a low self-esteem due to not being raised with a father and made her not trust men. To find out that she was the product of an affair her father had was just too much to take. Men were off the list of serious ventures. As well as marriage. So, when she was invited to Anne’s wedding she truly didn’t want to go. They agreed not to allow their father’s behavior taint their relationship, him being gone made it easier.
When she meets Robert by chance so she thinks her guards go up. Being slightly overweight with a rack that guys can’t take their eyes off of is not cool. It was refreshing to her when Robert took one long glance at first after that when he spoke to her he looked at her eyes. They flow easily into a bantering that is fun and exciting to Jasmine. To the point where Robert says he’s giving her a pet name like all the guys on the swim team do. The first one she vetoed. The seconded she liked okay, “Mina.” She said she just liked calling him Robert instead of the Bobby the family all called him. From here on out they connect and disconnect and the outside elements intrude. Honesty is important and openness to calm the fear. I so enjoyed this book. It was a fast read but the feelings that you went through with the characters were real. I give this book 5 stars. Provided by Net Galley. Follow us at: www.1rad-readerreviews.com
