This book explains a lot. Whilst I was reading the first book in this series, I was wondering what I had missed something. All the explanations are in this book, as well as the ongoing United Planets stuff that started in the Superman book.

There is a war coming, or has it already started while everyone else is just playing catch up. Why did Hal Jordan leave the United Planets Lantern? What tragedy finally pushed him over the edge? Also, the secret of Hal's new ring is explained.

This is a huge epic story with revelations galore. Good artwork, and I am very glad to see some of the other Green Lanterns as well (apart from Guy). Good main story that does lead into Absoulte Power and will have far-reaching repercussions.

I read this title at the same time as House of Brainiac because there are linked back-ups, but you can get away with it: it's as ugly as it is uninteresting and pointless in relation to the main event.

That said, it's another excellent volume. Jeremy Adams seems to have a good grasp of Hal - I'm not enough of a connoisseur to give a definitive opinion but it seems consistent with what I know - and finds a good trick to get him back into space to warn the United Planets of a serious threat. Only to discover that another threat has already been brewing for some time. This second part is a little more predictable, with a classically cunning and Machiavellian villain, but it's nevertheless well constructed with good action an a great use of Carol Ferris at the end.

Xermanico illustrates most of the run, so once again it's all good.

This is exactly the kind of sci-fi superhero comic book nonsense I crave. The plotting is dense but approachable; the pacing is relentless without losing detail. I don't really know who any of these characters are, but Jeremy Adams gives them enough life that I care about their outcome.

Love and War opens with an explanation of what happened to Kilowog, which also covers why Sinestro was so peeved in the previous volume. This further opens up the bigger picture issue: power batteries are being destroyed across the universe, causing the emotional spectrum to be out of whack (and giving some Lanterns access to multiple spectrums). Seems like maybe Thaaros and his United Planets cronies aren't the good guys they make themselves out to be? (Huge surprise, I know)

Hal Jordan uncovers a secret underground Lantern on Earth and uses it to escape the solar system's quarantine. On Oa, he meets up with other rogue Lanterns who are opposed to Thaaros' rule. There's a team-up, a battle, and the surprise entrance of a character who saves the day (for Hal, at least). Really excited to see what's next for our heroes, though the end of the volume indicates we're in for an Absolute Power crossover first.

Even the back-up issues are fun, showing how Guy Gardner captured the wrong Czarnian in an attempt to nab Lobo. I chuckled quite a bit at his shenanigans!

I thought the Big Idea introduced in volume 1 (Hal Jordan being stuck on Earth, 'Sector 2814' under quarantine) was promising but it is basically discarded immediately in this one, for good or for ill, and instead we get a lot of space swashbuckling alongside the numerous other GLs of Earth, including N.K. Jemisin's Sojourner Mullein which was nice to see.

Hal Jordan searches for a way to get past the quarantine on Earth and in Sector 2814. But when he does he falls deeper into the conspiracy with the United Planets and the resistance against them!

There’s some good intrigue here that involves our favorite lanterns and a plot that will probably change the Green Lantern mythos forever. But why they had to do my boy Kyle Rayner like that though!?

Been a while since I read a GL book... after seeing Guy in the new Superman movie, I knew I needed to get back to it.
Highlights:
- Lord Premier Tharros of the United Planets has taken over as head of the Green Lantern Corps.
- Hal and Kilowog accompany him to Korrigar to try to convince Sinestro to join the UP. He refuses initially, but after a battle with some "rogue agents of the Yellow Lanterns" ends in Kilowog's death, Korrigar joins. (I don't believe this for one second!)
- Razor, formerly a Red, now a Blue, shows Hal that the Guardians and Oa left a GL Central Power Battery on Earth, since there are so many Green Lanterns from there, left as a backup. Hal is able to officially put on a GL Ring (He created one from his own will that he's been wearing for years)
- United Planets Lantern Corps agents show up to take Razor and Hal. They are able to switch with Emotional Spectrum powers they use at will. They defeat Hal and take Razor.
- Hal is led into the planet by the Green. Jo Mallein recruits Hal to the Renegade GLC.
- Carol Ferris has a boyfriend and her frustration with Hal leads her into his arms, and they go to Vegas to get married. As she is about to say yes, her Star Sapphire ring comes to her, a sign that Hal needs her help
- After saving him, she admits that she loves him and wants to be with him no matter what.
- There's a side story involving Lobo and Guy Gardner, but I need more knowledge of "House of Brainiac" which I am actually going to start reading next!

Missed Green Lantern. Hopefully more Volumes soon!

I really liked the little intermissions with Guy, they were fun. Other than that this book was very predictable and so boring... There's a bad guy. What's his deal? He's, like, a really bad guy, but he pretends to be a good guy. What does he want? He wants power. Crazy, I know.

Even with him not being my favorite this book would be a lot better if it stuck to following Hal's POV more often. Instead it insists on using all the human Green Lanterns, as they go to... places, and they... do things.

After Hal's creepy behavior in the previous volume it was kind of upsetting to see Carol go back to him so willingly, but she was a good part of the story. Despite her terrible behavior she's the only character acting with a semblance of humanity and having thoughts about anything instead of acting like a robot.

On va se servir de ce tome 2 pour critiquer l'ensemble, à noter que c'est le seul comics GL que j'ai jamais lu.
Donc en ayant peu de connaissance sur cet univers qui prend, à raison, ses distances avec le reste de DC, logique puisque c'est pas souvent sur terre...

J'ai vraiment bien aimé les deux, notamment pcq c'est super bien dessiné par Xermanico pour l'un, et Montos pour l'autre.

Concernant GL : War Journal, la serie sur John Stewart : il y a pas si longtemps je parlais des personnages noirs qui, dans un tie-in de Titans Beast World, étaient sous-écrits, traité avec peu d'intérêt, relégué à une sous-intrigue pas intéressantes. Bah c'est absolument l'inverse avec ce run sur John Stewart, qui est, premièrement, super balèze. Mais aussi emmené, à contrecœur, dans une aventure avec un enjeu digne de ce nom. C'est pas très bien écrit, on a vraiment des répétitions dans la construction des chapitres et dans les thèmes (meme dans les dialogues, les persos aiment vraiment répéter la même chose en boucle), et on a parfois l'impression de pas comprendre, donc un petit manque de lisibilité (sûrement par manque d'infos), mais c'est tellement beau et bien découpé que c'est un plaisir à chaque page et le récit dans son ensemble reste assez compréhensible donc tout va bien.
Donc ptet DC jsp prenez exemple sur vous même de temps en temps, faites des séries en 12 issues sur vos personnages issus de minorités, jsp prenez les au sérieux quoi.

Concernant Hal Jordan :
Le récit est bcp plus simple mais se termine pas pcq il semble qu'il soit lié a Absolute Power... donc à voir si cest dans ces albums. Cela dit sur la forme, même chose qu'au dessus, ça se lit avec une facilité déconcertante, impossible de lâcher le bouquin c'était un régal

Overview: This collection continues the story of Hal Jordan on Earth, which has been quarantined by the United Planets, who now run the GL Corps. He is trying to figure out his life (as usual) and his new ring. See the previous volume for more details.

Review: What's not to like? Secret spy missions on Oa as the Lanterns try to discover the secret plot controlling the United Planets, we have the drama of Hal trying to get over his friend's death and reuniting with his old friend Tom Kalmaku, and then the backup issues feature a fun story with Guy Gardner and Czarnians, drawn by Kevin Maguire, the king of facial expressions.
Also, the side story with Carol trying to decide whether or not to go through with her engagement to Nathan was good and I think demonstrated why she and Hal work as a couple. They've just known each other so long, and they are always there for the other person.
I realize this review is short, but it's just a good collection of comic-book adventures, with a little bit of everything. Definitely a good continuation from the last volume, and while it leaves off in a bit of a cliffhanger (going into different events,) I still feel like it concluded enough for me to be satisfied.

Issue-by-Issue Synopsis:
Issue #7: In this issue, we find out what happened when the United Planets took over, and what happened on Korugar.
When the United Planets took over, Hal was divided about whether to stay or not. He agrees to a mission to protect one of the representatives as they try to establish allies on other planets... only to find that the planet is Korugar, and the potential ally is Sinestro. Still, he accompanies Kilowog there. Hal is unable to contain his feelings about Sinestro, even during the official meeting. Rebel Yellow Lanterns break up the meeting, trying to assassinate the representative, and Kilowog goes after them, only to be (allegedly) killed when the Yellow Lantern power battery explodes. Overcome with guilt, Hal leaves the corps and returns to Earth. Sinestro signs the treaty with the United Planets and says he knew nothing about the assassins, but Hal doubts it, given Sinestro's tight control of the planet.
In the present, Rizor reveals that the Blue Lantern power battery has been destroyed.

Issue #8: Rizor tells how thousands died on his planet when the power battery exploded, and despite calling for help, no one arrived from the GL Corps. Pirates took over the planet and enslaved the people. Rizor needs his help, but when Hal tells him he is unable to leave the planet, Rizor challenges him, saying maybe he just doesn't want to leave the planet. But no, he really can't, so they go to Madame Xanadu to find a different way off the planet. She can't help him, but gives him a clue for where he can go. They are interrupted when three new Green Lanterns arrive to arrest Rizor, and then Hal when he reveals he has a ring. The Lanterns demonstrate that they can use many different kinds of light, and so defeat Hal and Rizor. Hal leaves to follow Madame Xanadu's tip.
In a back-up story, Kyle Rayner saves a town and then has a talk with a construct of his deceased girlfriend. Alexandra. GL Sojourner (Jo) Mullein shows up and asks him to help them figure out what the United Planets is really up to.

Issue #9: Following the tip, Hal finds an underground utopia where he runs into his old friend, Tom Kalmaku (Tom was formerly known as "Pieface" and was Hal's civilian friend, but that's not PC anymore lol.) Tom says that he is the last of the New Guardians, granted power by the Earth, and shows Hal an Oan power battery. He says that it was placed there as a sort of "designated survivor" in case anything happened on Oa, and that's why there are so many lanterns from Earth. Hal is able to use it to charge his ring enough to leave the planet. He returns to Oa, encountering some of the new lanterns on the way, who switch their light to Red and attack him. Hal is saved by Jo.
In a backup story, GL Jessica Cruz agrees to work with the United Planets, but is secretly undercover to get information about them and report to Jo.

Issue #10: Hal is introduced to the GL Resistance, which includes Jo, Kyle, Simon, Jessica (undercover,) Salak, and Two-Six. Kyle is unstable due to some unknown issue with the emotional spectrum. Simon, Jo, and Hal go to investigate the science cells, and see that the United Planets are conducting some kind of experiment on Keli Quintela, the "teen lantern" of Earth. Despite Simon and Jo trying to stop him, Hal jumps in to try to free her. He is able to withstand the new Lantern's rings, but the three of them are overcome and unable to save Keli. Instead, they free Rizor and one of the new Lanterns (to find out answers.)
In a backup story, GL Guy Gardner is on his own mission to arrest the notorious bounty hunter, the Czarnian Lobo, and wants to settle an old score (old, OLD score... started back in the original JLI days!) He finds and arrests a Czarnian who looks like Lobo, believing it's him (because he's supposed to be the only one left, but encounters trouble.

Issue #11: The United Planets go to Zamaron, asking for them to be allies. The Zamarons decline, and the Violet power battery is destroyed. On Oa, Hal and the others question the New Lantern, who gives up all he knows. The Resistance go to the United Planet council to unveil he evil plot, not realizing that they are all shapeshifters, and are in on it. Meanwhile, on earth, Carol Ferris asks her fiancé Nathan if they can get married that day. He is surprised but agrees. On the way, Carol is distracted and thinks back to a childhood event with Hal, when he stole the principal's car and drove her to Vegas. Nathan asks her if she want to wait, but she says no. As they say their vows, Carol's ring becomes a Star Sapphire, and she is transported away.
In the backup story, Guy and the Czarnian encounter some other bounty hunters, before being transported to a new location with many Czarnians.

Issue #6: Hal and the other lanterns try to fight the council and the New Lanterns, but it is tough going. All are taken down except Hal, who flies into orbit. He is about to be killed when Carol, as a Star Sapphire, appears, and declares her love for Hal (poor Nathan.) They escape together and return to Earth. Meanwhile, the United Planets have another plan, and they are in league with Amanda Waller, who they ask to neutralize Hal. This then leads into the "Absolute Power" storyline event.
In the backup story, Guy is revealed to have been imprisoned in one of Braniac's bottled cities, this one full of Czarnians. He has been forced to get a job as a mailman. With the help of the Czarnian he met before, they are able to escape... probably?

This book was so fun like we focus on Hal and what happened in Korugar in the past and the fate of Kilowog and that waas a sad one but also established United Planets role there and why Sinestro is on earth in last volume and then we have other story where Hal basically finds out where Tom Kalmaku is aka the New Guardian and the back up battery on earth and basically why there are so many GLs from earth so that was a good retcon and actually a pretty good return for one of Hals best friends and I loved that!

Then him going to space and meeting with the other renegade GLs and finding out whats going on and them forming a resistance capturing the other Ringhunters and all that and then ultimately Hal teaming up with Jo and Kyle, rescuing Keli and other things and finding out more about this Thaaros and like the UP leading the GLs and the whole twsist with what Thaaros plan is was amazing kinda like secret invasion and all that and the lanterns victory doesn't go the way they hoped!

I also like how they had back up stories for both Kyle and Jess and they were fine but the one with Guy as he is hunting for Lobo was so good and kinda funny and also features WAM and Omega-Bam-Wam man that was a funny return after his presence in JA run on flash and yeah fun side adventure for Guy there as he finds fake Lobo and teams up with him and it ties into the HOB crossover of Superman.. and its a loose tie-in but still makes for a solid read!

Overall the volume was good and actually answers a lot of mysteries that have been building up in the pages of GL for quite some time and features stories of so many earth GLs and everyone gets their due time and also builds up Thaaros as like a big villain for GLs in a really interesting way and yeah the art by Xermanico continues to be awesome and JA the writer weaving a solid tale for the emerald knights! Definitely read it!

Jeremy Adams and Amancay Nahuelpan team with a host of writers and artists for the second volume of the latest Green Lantern series, entitled Love and War. The opening issue flashes back to Hal’s last assignment for the United Planets, leading to Kilowog’s death and his decommissioning back to Earth. Inspired by Razer to get back into space, Hal heads to Spain and the source of his newest ring - a secret power battery left in the care of his old ally Tom Kalmaku. Given a new ring, Hal charges up and joins the battle for the Corps. Learning of the new Lanterns able to shift spectrum colors, Hal naturally leaps into the fray; his rashness does provide a momentary victory for the Earth-based Lanterns and their few allies. Yet the attempt to share their story of the United Planets’ corruption leads to a near-total loss. The only hope now lies in a recharged Carol Ferris, who escapes with Hal back home. Each book also has a small backup feature to highlight the other Green Lanterns: Guy is sent after Lobo, Kyle is breaking down along with the emotional spectrum, Jessica is playing double agent, and Jo is trying her bets to keep everything together. The main plot from Adams is still a bumpy ride, often jumping from scene to scene without giving characters time to breathe. The new status quo established last volume is already out the window in favor of another color-coded space opera. The miniature tales also reduce the main page count, shortening the story’s length and thus presenting readers with a whole host of undigested information at once. Nahuelpan does well with the ever-shifting backdrops, but he is overwhelmed with all of this plotlines. Green Lantern: Love and War is fighting all the wrong battles in all the wrong places.

Continúa la entretenida etapa de Adams a cargo de la serie de ciencia-ficción por antonomasia de DC. Por fin, la historia despega (literalmente), y Hal vuelve al espacio para ofrecernos la ansiada explicación de los extraños sucesos que pasaban en el primer volumen de esta serie. Todo lo de la destrucción de las baterías de poder, los Lanterns con diversos poderes del espectro emocional, etc., me parece interesante, pero... ¿a nadie más que a mí le cansa ver tropecientos Lanterns terrestres? Yo, personalmente, los reduciría a Hal (obviamente), Guy, y John Stewart, y ya (a Kyle Rayner no lo cuento, que no es un Green Lantern de verdad). La explicación a la proliferación de Lanterns humanos es más o menos razonable, pero me parece aburrido su protagonismo habiendo tantísimos alienígenas interesantes en el cuerpo (empezando por Kilowog, claro, que sale bastante, la verdad sea dicha). Ya sé que para eso está la cole de los Corps, pero... es que en esa también salen un montón. En fin, es solo mi punto de vista, seguro que habrá un montón de gente que los adora aunque tengan la personalidad de un zapato, ¿no?

Por otro lado, el complemento de Guy es medianamente divertido, y nos muestra al Gardner de la LJI, lo que siempre es de agradecer. Maguire tiene que tener más años que el Charleston, pero bueno, el que tuvo, retuvo, y aunque no es el grande que fue en los ochenta, tiene su encanto volver a verlo dibujar al imbécil de pelo a lo cazo más famoso de los cómics.

Teniendo todo en cuenta, esta etapa no es ni maravillosa ni penosa. Satisfará a los fans de los Corps sin hacernos olvidar a Geoff Johns, desde luego. Entretenida y olvidable.

This will be shorter compared to my review of the first volume since a lot of what I said there applies here as well. Seeing Hal get an actual lantern ring was great both visually and narratively. Having a hidden Lantern battery on Earth and the explanation behind it was well done, in my opinion. I really like how we're getting more action from the other Green Lanterns and what their planning to stop the Thaaros and the rest of the United Planets council. As this is my first time reading some of these characters in a long time, it's great to see them all interact with one another; it really shows how they each operate in their own respective way, standout being Jo Mullein. I do wonder what is going on with Kyle, as he's been very destressed throughout much of the novel. Again, the artwork in this series is nothing short of phenomenal and pair exceptionally with great coloring of the Emotional Spectrum and Lantern Constructs, amongst other things. I also really liked the flashbacks to when Carol and Hal were kids to see how much of a connection they both have as well as how far back it goes. I do feel bad for Nathan though, seems like a great guy! It's was very neat seeing Carol as the Star Sapphire; I've only ever seen her in the JL/JLU animated series so seeing her in this was awesome. And the Thaaros/Waller alliance is something I'm interested in seeing play out. The Gardner/Lobo backup story is something that I do not care for, honestly; super bored with them and I hope it doesn't drag out for long. Now, on to the next volume!

Jeremy Adams continues his so-far-excellent Green Lantern run with this second volume, which brings Hal and friends into contact with the corrupted United Planets, while problems on Earth begin to escalate further, roping in poor Carol, and even the Green itself.

There's a lot of scope here. Adams is clearly seeding something bigger, and it's become much more apparent lately after Civil Corps and the new Green Lantern Corps series that just launched. Like his run on the Flash, Adams is respectful to everything that happened before, acknowledging characters and concepts that have often been forgotten, and bringing them up to date for the story he wants to tell.

The artwork's great, with contributions from Xermanico and Amanacay Nahuelpan. I'm not sure if all of the back-ups are included as yet, since they're tie-ins to other series like Sinister Sons and Superman's House Of Brainaic crossover, but the Brainiac one has Kevin Maguire art on a Guy Gardner story, which is always a delight.

Adams is doing great work as always. He's definitely one to watch at DC at the moment.

Definitely a step up from the previous volume, because it's no longer just a Hal Jordon retread story. Instead we get an interesting new threat to the Green Lantern Corps, and we get appearances by the whole ridiculously large set of human Lanterns.

But it still remains somewhat flawed. Though I am thrilled to see characters like Jo and Kyle, they're just barely characterized in favor of Hal and Carol (who, it must be admitted, get a pretty fun story). Though I am happy to see a slightly different take on the emotional spectrum ... it's still the emotional spectrum that has dominated Green Lantern for decades. And it's all not just slow, but slow and then ending on a cliffhanger because the story's still not done.

So, maybe 3.5 stars? I liked the start more than the end, and that's because it dragged.

Bueno bueno bueno, esto mejoró bastante al lado del primer vol. Ahora sí hay una historia interesante. El mejor GL es el que hace de policía espacial y acá tenemos un complot que tienen que desarmar desde una "resistencia" formada en OA. Todo funciona muy bien.

También se desarrolla todo el contexto que faltaba en el vol 1. Esto de tirar data de cosas que vas a explicar después para mí ya no funciona, porque como todo es un evento hoy en día, se siente que te perdiste algo, no que te están planteando un misterio a revelar. Pero bue, acá se cuentan muchas cosas que están buenas.

Puntos extra para el backups de Guy con dibujos de Maguire. Si sos un viejo choto fana de la JLI como yo te va a gustar.

3.5 stars. Jeremy Adams continues his good story of corruption at the heart of the United Planets. There is plenty of action and it is often tense and ties in with the drama well (meaning, it's not all mindless action). And there is a good development with Carol Ferris.

I'm a bit undecided on this series. The art and writing are both good and it is for Adams' writing that I continue with the book. The political corruption of the United Planets is not a bad story, but I might discontinue this series. I've got Vol, 4 to get through to decide, but I'm not really a GL fan, even though I like Jeremy Adams. If you do like GL, I can recommend this book. With me continuing, I'll see.

I thought the issues set in space/on Oa were really well done, it was really the issues set on Earth that I didn't particularly care for. While it did keep the story going, I didn't particularly know who the magic user or the new Guardian was, nor why I should care about them. I also felt that while the backup stories were interesting in their own right in showing what the other characters were up to in the meanwhile, it did really disrupt the flow and reading experience of the main story. That being said, the actual story was very fun, it felt a lot like Star Wars meets Secret Invasion which was super enjoyable

-the rest going rogue and either getting captured by the UP or hiding out

Power batteries exploding, spectrum shifting Lanterns, and corrupted leaders. Hal will have to get through a lot to find out the truth. The first step is figuring out why he's stuck on Earth. Could it have something to do with, 'The Green'?

Jeremy Adams is doing a very good job of making the Green Lanterns relevant again. We finally find out what happened to Kilowog in the first issue. Then the deep state stuff with the United Planets comes to light over the course of this. Adams seems to have some cool plans there. The back up stories are actually relevant. The Guy Gardner ones tie into House of Brainiac if you're a completist. I like how each of the other Lanterns get some screen time and it's not Hal and no one else. My one nitpick is that there are a LOT of artists on this book.

Strong series so far. I was a bit worried it wouldn’t be able to sustain it after the strong start. Getting away from the terrestrial and back into the cosmic swing of things was gonna tell me a lot about if this run would work and boy does it. It very seamlessly incorporates a lot of history in a way that doesn’t feel derivative or unnecessarily bogged down by what came before. It respects the pasts of characters like Jessica, Simon, Kyle and Carol without needing to revisit a whole host of things. I’m very intrigued to see where we go from here.

The Guardians of Oa are gone and in their place the United Planets council leads the Green Lanterns, although they have quarantined sector 2814 (Earth) and every human Lantern is either out of commission or sent away on a dangerous mission. Meanwhile the core batteries of different color Lanterns are being destroyed, buy who's behind it, and why?

Kind of filler

The story is kind of choppy, and the most significant thing that happens you can figure out from looking at the cover. I was hoping to learn more about Star Sapphire, but she remains as mysterious as ever. The B story with Guy Gardner had potential.

Green lantern is real good when having partaken but this one is dragged down by absolute power tie ins. Still a fun read.
