Offers such advice for writing creatively as using the dictionary, simplifying the obvious, changing rhythms and pacings in sentences, choosing precise and detailed words, avoiding self-indulgent gimmicks, and more
This book was simple and easy to read. I loved how bite sized each chapter was. Not too long or complicated. You could sit down and get one “blunder” read because each chapter was only a few pages long.
Overall, he stated things I’m pretty sure I already knew, if only on a more subconscious level that I wouldn’t have been able to articulate. It was good to read some of them again, especially the blunder about adjectives. He had some good points and he was very clear in giving them. The examples were helpful. I’d recommend this book for new and old hands at writing.
What a fun book this was. It was very easy to read - oops! It was easy to read. I found the tips in this book useful for all writers and the examples given are interesting, even funny at times. I feel that I will read this book again when I get further along in my writing. Thanks to William Noble for the motivation and knowledge.
Not the best book on writing I've ever read, but it had its good parts. I especially liked the story about learning to read the dictionary for fun. I used to do that! I would say this book is for younger or less experienced writers; however, there are plenty of good reminders in here for others.
I thought this was an entertaining, yet useful guide to writing. It helps the reader with obvious grammatical errors but at the same time encourages creativity.
