I just finished reading “Hjärta av Damm” (Heart of Dust) by Ingelin Angerborn a really good mystery book. The story is about a girl called Bella who decided to go to a theatre camp during the fall break. Rumour says that there are ghosts there. Bella doesn’t believe in ghosts so of course she just thinks that’s a rumour, but the longer time she spends there the more unusual things starts happening, who was banning on the door during rehearsal, who wrote weird messages with red lipstick on the mirror in the girls bathroom and who is up in the attic where no one is allowed to be… In this book there is a lot of sections with some really good visualising, for example the first sentence of the book was,
“teatern var ett vackert hus, ljusrosa med vita krusiduller runt fönstren och svarta gammaldags ljuslycktor på var sin sida om ingången” (the theatre was a beautiful old house, light pink with white frills around the windows and old black candle lanterns on each sides of the entrance) This part used a lot of strong adjectives which makes it very easy to visualise.
Another strategy I used a lot in this book was questioning, because this story is so “unreal” but still so exiting I had a lot of questions about what was happening even though I know I would find out by the end of the book. For example in the end of chapter 3, all of the sudden the room goes black and one of the leaders had to go fix it. I made me wonder Why did the light turn of? Did someone do it one purpose? and in that case, who turned the light of?. This was actually very exiting because ti made the story more interesting because I just wanted to keep reading and see if my questions were answered.
