Legacy
As a child, Catherine MacDonald is left at Hedingham Priory by her mother who never returns. Fifteen years later, she devotes her life to Christ and is content until she visits the Earl of Essex to nurse a mysterious young woman. What she learns during her visit sends her on a mission to Scotland in search of her mother.
During her journey, she witnesses the injustices of life in the mid 1600s; the downtrodden and the poor, those afflicted with leprosy and the plague -- but all paled in comparison with the news that awaited her. On a windswept Scottish beach, Catherine learns that her mother's life became inexplicably entangled with a debauched, subterranean clan and what she had to do to survive.
