I like what this collection is doing - gathering stories from a fast-fading generation and rounding out the history of twentieth-century Utah and the West - but it felt like it could have gone broader or deeper. Of course, that could be because this and similar works were successful in bringing these stories to the public, so now they don't seem as novel as they might have 20 or so years ago. Also, the book shows some biases, for the most part leaving out ethnic minorites like the Welsh and Swiss who were connected with the LDS church, but at least they're honest about that being their goal. Still, it's a shame that more of those stories weren't captured as well.

Should be on every Utah born citizen's bookshelf...and read. State more multicultural than they seem to notice.

Very good history of a minority of people who seem to be lost to the current life to today. I found it to be very interesting. Their lives were hard and diverse. They accomplished much in their life times and I wonder if we today could do near as much as they.
