Trick Shot

Trick Shot is a fake dating college hockey romance with a black cat heroine and the Golden Retriever she hates to love.

Claire

I’m a journalist. I report the truth as I see it. If there’s a story, you can be sure I’m going to dig until I get every last detail. As a staffer for The Howler, Bainbridge University’s newspaper, my job is to find a lead and pursue it until I can piece it all together and publish the facts. Sometimes there’s fallout from my kind of journalism, but I’m tough and can handle it. I don’t need a hero stepping in to take the heat off me, especially if that “hero” is a man I can’t stand.

Pete Santos has been my sworn enemy since the start of freshman year. I don’t need his help. I don’t need his charm. And I definitely don’t need any more of his panty-melting orgasms.

What I need is to be left the hell alone so I can do my job. What I get is a fake boyfriend whose love feels very, very real.

Pete

Claire Fowler hates me, and I have no idea why. But I’m a smart guy, so steering clear of the woman who despises me should be a no-brainer.

It isn’t. I fall hard for Claire, and her rejection stings. So does her betrayal.

When she becomes public enemy number one across campus, I’m the last person who should be worried about her. She made it clear that what happens on vacation stays on vacation and that she’s not interested in anything else I have to offer.

But when trouble comes looking for Claire, I can’t just stand by and watch. I’m going to do what it takes to keep her from being harassed, even if that means posing as her fake boyfriend to keep the vultures at bay. But don’t worry, I won’t let myself fall the rest of the way in love with her. Nope, not me. I’m too smart for that.

Trick Shot is the fourth book in the Bainbridge U hockey series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone. If you love a sweet cinnamon roll of a hero wrapped in the burly body of a bruiser, Pete Santos is just what you’ve been waiting for. He’s met his match in Claire, a tough-as-nails heroine with a vulnerable side she hides from everyone. Until Pete. Trick Shot will make you laugh out loud and then hit you right in the feels. Get ready for a lovable hero, the smart-mouthed heroine who hates his guts, and all the steam they generate as they fall in love.

Trick Shot is the 4th book in the Bainbridge Hockey series but it could be read as a standalone as I did.

This novel tells the journey of two college students, Claire Fowler, reporter for the college paper, and her enemy, the hockey player Pete Santos. Claire despises the golden aurea of Pete, but she is also attracted to him, and when she begins to find him wherever she goes, it becomes harder to hide how she true feels about him.

I've enjoyed this story full of surprises, chemistry, delight, and a little emotional drama. I was hooked from start to end.
Andi Burns writing is entertaining and easy to read.

I loved how Pete and Claire relationship developped, from enemies to lovers, they were funny to read, their bantering and intimate time are fervent and scorching.
I loved Pete, he is really a good guy with a heart of gold. He can't even hate Claire when she deserves it. For almost half the book I didn't like Claire much, because she is insufferable and almost childish, but once she starts to open up and to explain the reasons behind her bitterness, she seems a new person.

I'm really curious what's next, because some of the supporting characters caught my attention.

Couldn't wait for Pete Santos to have a story and I enjoyed it so much!! This story definitely got heated and stayed that way. The tension between the two was heavy and Claire was a tough nut to crack but Pete definitely handled it well.

This is Book 4 of the Bainbridge Hockey Series!

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

Trick Shot by Andi Burns is everything you want in a college hockey romance: sizzling tension, laugh-out-loud banter, and a whole lot of heart. If you love the enemies-to-lovers and fake dating tropes, paired with a cinnamon roll hero and a grumpy, guarded heroine, this book will absolutely steal your heart.

The story follows Claire Fowler, a tough-as-nails journalism student with a serious bite. She’s smart, relentless, and unapologetically bold in her reporting. She’s also got a serious grudge against Pete Santos, the golden retriever of Bainbridge University’s hockey team. Their dynamic? Pure fire. She’s the no-nonsense black cat; he’s the sunshiney bruiser who can’t help but orbit her world, even when she’s constantly pushing him away.

When Claire finds herself in the center of a campus-wide storm after a controversial story, the only person willing to stand by her side is the one man she’s sworn to avoid. Pete, with his steady loyalty and unexpected depth, offers to pose as her fake boyfriend to protect her from the fallout. What starts as a tactical move turns into something undeniably real—and watching them fall was pure joy.

What makes this book sing is its balance between wit and vulnerability. Claire’s tough exterior slowly crumbles, revealing the insecurities and hurt she keeps hidden. And Pete? He’s the kind of hero who wears his heart on his sleeve but isn’t afraid to get bruised in the name of love. His protectiveness, emotional honesty, and quiet strength make him impossible not to fall for.

The chemistry between Claire and Pete crackles on every page, and their slow-burn build-up is both believable and incredibly satisfying. From snarky one-liners to emotionally raw moments, their relationship develops in a way that feels authentic and earned. Their banter is hilarious, but it’s their vulnerability with each other that really tugs at your heartstrings.

Despite being the fourth book in the Bainbridge U Hockey series, Trick Shot easily stands on its own. But after meeting Pete and Claire, you’ll probably want to dive straight into the rest of the series—because if Andi Burns writes all her heroes like Pete Santos, consider me hooked.
Final thoughts? Trick Shot delivers steam, sweetness, angst, and laughs in equal measure. It’s for readers who love:
* Grumpy x sunshine
* Fake dating with real feels
* College sports romance
* Enemies who fall hard
* And the kind of love that sticks—even when you’re trying to fight it
Highly recommend for your next binge-read. You’ll laugh, you’ll swoon, and by the end, you’ll be rooting so hard for Pete and Claire, your heart might just burst.

This is the fourth book in this impressive series and this is Pete and Claire’s story.
Pete is a hockey player, and Claire a journalist working for “The Howler” a Bainbridge University newspaper, where she fins a lead and pursues it. Claire has hated Pete since freshman year, and having no clue why, he has avoided her. When Claire becomes public enemy number one and is getting harassed, Pete can’t stand by and do nothing, so he becomes her fake boyfriend.
This is a well written story which has friendships, emotions, fake dating, drama, surprises, enemies / lovers, animosity, undeniable chemistry, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and sweet, collage romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I have to start out by saying THANK YOU, Andi Burns, for writing a hot mmc who doesn’t have a six pack! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 the fact that Pete had a “dad bod” made me love his character even more!

Claire is quite the feisty black cat fmc who is almost intolerable (she was intended to be written that way) and she hates Pete Santos. He is a golden retriever mmc who is still civil and kind to her even though he has no clue why she hates him. They have an enemies to lovers, fake dating, hockey romance that takes you through a whirlwind of events! Eventually their fake dating becomes not so fake and some very real feelings emerge. It brings out the sweet, the spicy, the frustration, the kindness and the confidence in both of them. Can they work through it all? Obviously. Is it easy? Never.

3.5 ⭐️

Trick Shot is book four in Bainbridge Hockey series by author Andi Burns.
This time the spotlight shines on the story of Bainbridge Hockey player Peter ‘Pete’ Frederick Santos and Claire Elizabeth Fowler best friend to Holland from One-Timer: A BU Hockey Holiday Short.

Let me just preface this by saying regardless of my rating, that does not mean that I did not like the book or enjoy it because I did.
It’s just that in comparison to the other books from Bainbridge Hockey series, it wasn’t on the same level in my opinion.
But with that said, it will in no way stop me from continuing to read the rest of the series. Or any other book from author Andi Burns in that matter.

The story was an interesting one, since IMO it definitely did not read like the other stories from the series. Especially when it came to seeing the evolving journey of Pete and Claire’s relationship.
Although it did have the usual elements that came from the drama, some mystery, given the secrets kept, allowing for growing suspense in waiting to see where it would all lead for Pete and Claire. As well as getting the answers to questions raised.

When it came to Pete and Claire’s ever evolving relationship, that to me was where the entertainment came in most times, which was fun to read.
Not only was there witty banter shown between the two, particularly with the metaphorical punches that Claire kept throwing Pete’s way, considering her hatred for them.
And with hearing their thoughts from their inner monologue towards one another, though more so from Claire’s part. It added more to the entertainment due to the funny moments that came about in seeing them go back and forth, with Claire's constant pushing and pulling.
Overall showing a playful side to them and their interesting relationship.

Just like the previous books, it was fun to see the inclusion of secondary characters in the form of Pete’s friends/teammates and Claire’s friends, some of who we met in their own stories within the series.
The camaraderie shown was just so sweet and loving, given the way they were all there for both Pete and Claire. And knowing Pete and Claire had formed their own found family with those who were always willing to be there for them and help whenever needed was the icing on top of the cake. Especially for Pete, given what he faced and went through with his own family.

One of the things I wasn’t so keen on was when the revelation was made as to why Claire did not like Pete.
Maybe it was just me, but I expected some huge and major, but what was delivered was anything but. It just felt so underwhelming and had me thinking and questioning if that truly was the reasoning. Since I just couldn't believe it.
The other issue for me was lack of excitement or pizazz that I had been hoping for, seeing as a majority of the time, IMO the story felt like you were wading through a mostly steady flow.

In the end, Trick Shot by Andi Burns was still a good read that came from Claire and Pete’s shared witty banter, seeing them navigate their Fake Dating relationship.
And the camaraderie between Pete and his hockey teammates, as well as Claire and her friends, some of who were partnered up with Bainbridge Hockey team.
Ultimately allowing for enjoyable moments to be had.

This is the fourth book in the Bainbridge Hockey series. It’s an interconnected series but can ABSOLUTELY be read as a stand alone with no issue. This story focuses on Claire and Pete 🩷

Claire, a strong willed and fierce journalism student who writes for the school paper. She is all about truth and pushing limits and takes no 🗑️ from anyone. ESPECIALLY one person in particular…the guy she’s hated since she arrived at Bainbridge…Pete Santos.

Pete is the star hockey player at Bainbridge, but this hot shot has a literal heart of gold and radiates golden retriever energy. College has been a great experience for him except for one thing…Claire Fowler. The spunky campus journalist who LOATHES him but he has NO IDEA why. Either way he’s drawn to her and loves watching her sputter out every time he’s in her orbit.

These two are stuck together when they head to Florida for a marine biology class trip. Claire tries avoiding Pete as much as possible but he seems to be everywhere. They end up getting stuck in a ranger cabin during a storm and hooking up. That lust/hate was too much for either of them to handle. And after that, they spend the rest of the time in Florida together. But once they are back at school, Claire is back to hating Pete 🙄 but Pete is not quite ready to let things go 🤭

Claire ends up writing a scathing article that gets the ENTIRE campus in an uproar and coming for her throat. Pete feels a wave of protectiveness over her and pretends to be her boyfriend to get them off her back and she reluctantly agrees. Eventually that hate turns to love but it’s a bumpy road there. With lots of drama, secrets and angst.

Look. This book was good….I love Andi Burns and her writing. But Claire was INSUFFERABLE. I just…I’ve never come across an FMC that just WANTED to be in the middle of drama 24/7. Her reason for hating Pete??? NON EXISTENT!!! It made ZERO SENSE and she was just hunkering down on her reasons because she wanted to be right. For someone who values the truth and prides herself on doing everything to uncover the truth, she did NOTHING to even figure out if what her reasons for being mad were valid. She never spoke to Pete to get his side and find out the truth. She just said nope. I hate you. That’s it. It made my head hurt.

And I get being guarded. I think they both were. But Claire took it to a whole other level. There’s being guarded and then there’s intentionally being difficult for the sake of dragging things out and that 1000000% what Claire was doing. She had zero concept of compromise. Any conflict that came up she was more concerned with being right than understanding.

Pete was too sweet and too caring for Claire. He…in my opinion…deserved better. He really stood by her through some hard stuff when he didn’t have to. And when stuff got intense and he didn’t know if he could handle it, he still stood by here because he loved her. I just wished she would have given him the same care and love he gave her.

All in all it was a good book. This series is great. The way the team rallies around each other and the girlfriends is really sweet. 🩷

Trick Shot is book#4 in the Bainbridge Hockey series and even though this was the first of the series I have read, I was definitely able to read it as a standalone.

Claire, a journalist for Bainbridge University’s newspaper hates Pete, a player for the university’s hockey team and he has no idea why! But when Claire becomes enemy number 1 after publishing an article that upsets quite a few people, Pete(who everyone loves) steps in as her fake boyfriend to stop her from being harassed. The problem is Pete had already had a thing for Claire and struggles to stop himself falling even further, and the hate Claire feels for Pete very quickly begins to change.

Claire’s character is independent, strong willed, knows exactly want she wants and is definitely not afraid to go for it. I liked this side to her character but unfortunately I found her quite insufferable. From the start she came across as a really bright girl who was very happy to speak her mind, so I was really surprised to hear her reasoning for disliking Pete and the fact that she never thought to bring it up with him was just a bit strange for me.
Pete on the other hand was a great guy, who was so willing to help out others and he did what he could for Claire even though she definitely didn’t deserve it. I also liked that he wasn’t portrayed as the typical buff hockey player character you read about in other books.

That being said, I did like the story, the witty banter between the pair and the continuous push and pull they had was entertaining and definitely made me want to see how the relationship between them developed. The moments where we got to hear Pete and Claire’s thoughts was also a great addition and had me laughing quite a few times throughout the story.
The one thing that definitely stood out for me in this book, was Pete’s hockey teammates, I absolutely adored them all. Not only were they hilarious but the friendship between them was top tier and the way they included Claire into their group and was willing to support her showed exactly how great they were.

All in all, even though I wasn’t a massive fan of Claire in this story, I’m sure plenty of others will be and it definitely hasn’t put me off reading the other books in the series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

There is a thin line between love and hate. It is easy to convince yourself that what you feel for someone is a strong dislike, but once you begin to actually get to know that person the feelings begin to blur. Andi Burns gives us this dynamic in Trick Shot as one college student has a change of heart towards someone she thought she couldn’t stand. This book delivers all the favorites throughout; heated tension, swoon worthy moments, and a storyline that keeps your attention from start to finish.

Claire Fowler is a strong, independent journalism student that is always looking for her next story. Her college life has been great, but there is one black spot in it. The star of Bainbridge University’s hockey team, whom she can’t seem to get away from. As hard as she pushes him away, she seems to always find herself in his orbit and doesn’t understand why. However, when a story threatens to ruin her reputation and possible journalism career, her so called enemy stands by her and protects her from the fallout.

Pete Santos is the golden retriever man we love to read about. Yes, a hockey star at his college, but he doesn’t let that go to his head. He actually loves the fire that burns between him and Claire and enjoys watching her squirm around him. When she needs help, he doesn’t hesitate to step in and help her out. He sees the good in her and refuses to let her crumble in on herself.

This book is full of vulnerability and romance. The chemistry is easy to feel between Pete and Claire and builds beautifully. As this comes to a tipping point walls have crumbled, raw emotion has been felt, and the line between love and strong dislike has absolutely blurred. Their relationship is organic as you read this book and never once feels forced. Andi has written a beautiful story that pulls at your heart in all the best ways!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

It's no secret that Claire Fowler can't stand Pete Santos. But when they are both chosen for a special minimester in Florida, he's everywhere. And that's a problem---because she might hold a grudge against him, but that doesn't mean she doesn't find him attractive. And one freak occurrence has them come together. When they return to school, things should go back to normal. That is, until Claire publishes an exposé on student athletes, which leads him to play his role of defenseman on and off the ice, forcing them together in a fake dating plot for reasons. But how long can it remain truly fake?

Claire and Pete were so much fun. The banter was so much fun. Their entire relationship was tit for tat, even in the bedroom. This was definitely the spiciest Bainbridge book so far, and I loved it. There was always a challenge between them but also understanding and support. It was healthy. Honestly, Pete set a new standard for this series that'll be hard to top.

Once again, the teammates were wonderfully hilarious, particularly Ollie and Mickey. Add in Pete's brothers, and there was a lot of laughter.

I am, however, left with one vital question, and I need to know, dear author; Is Pete truly an Autumn?

Trick Shot is a great continuation of the Bainbridge Hockey series and is a real treat.

Favorite Line(s):
"His backside is a testament to the beauty of a squat."

The flare of desire in Claire's eyes tells my insecurity to get f*cked.

Trick Shot was an absolute chef's kiss of a sports romance. And Pete and Claire were perfect together. Not only as a couple but physically they were so alike and mentally they clicked. Because that mountain of a man needed a strong and smart woman. And Claire is the right match for him she's smart and strong willed, and athletic and so fearless. And she loves to hate Pete . At the same time Pete hates to love her because she holds a grudge and hates him. A lot. But a trip where he's a teaching assistant and she's one of the students changes things between them. And also Claire stumbles on a story and as a future journalist she gets to the bottom of it. And everyone on the campus hates her . Except Pete and his teammates. And in a sudden twist of fate Pete and Claire are fake dating . Soon boundaries are blurred and nothing is fake . Pete is just giving her time to catch up. Claire and her bestie found their people in the girls group. And it was so good when all of the guys was there for Pete when he needed them most . And those guys pulled that calendar thing big time. It was so good when Pete finally got it that he can love and care and be scared about the risks Claire is taking and still support her . He's grand gesture was the right one for a girl like Claire. They both got their dreams come true and a happily ever after and righted a few wrongs along the way. That epilogue was so good. Now I can't wait to see who's story is next and what's happening in the Bainbridge Hockey universe.

Thanks to the author and WordSmith Publicity for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.

This is the first book I've read by Andi Burns but I love a good sports romance so took a chance. It was very well done and can be read as a complete stand alone. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Typical enemies to lovers, black cat FMC/golden retriever MMC, found family tropes.

Pete is a lumbersnack if you will...a big hockey enforcer that everyone loves. Except for Claire who has hated him for 3 years and he has no idea why. When the two end up on a minimester for school in Florida, the two are fire together even with Claire's hatred. When they get back to school, they both go their separate ways. That is until Claire writes an article that riles everyone up and Pete becomes her "rescuer" (against her will) by acting as her fake boyfriend. Everyone loves him but hates her so people don't really know how to act. As the two spend time together for their fake relationship, things get a bit more real. Especially as the two open up and find out why they never got along. As the two start dating for real, another situation comes up that Pete isn't sure he can handle since it puts Claire in danger again. But he has to love her for who she is or lose her.

Overall a great plot and excellent characters. Love the side characters as well. Would recommend if you love a good young adult sports romance.

I have really enjoyed this series so far, and the dynamics between this couple are super fun.

For some time now, Pete Santos has been the seasoned leader of the BU hockey team, managing the players’ playful mischief. Definitely a full time job with these guys!! A doting son, kind brother, excellent student, and all-around nice guy—Pete is also incredibly attractive.

Unfortunately for him, he’s captivated by Claire Fowler, a woman who has no time for him and his charming demeanor. But as we all know, there’s a reason for her animosity. His attempts to win her favor intensified with each of her reprimands. Their attraction was undeniable, and when they finally acted on it, things got incredibly hot. I sincerely appreciated how these two connected, and found their HEA.

The team spirit and bonds within the BU team have been a highlight of this series, and kept the pages turning; I loved their support for each other. The book’s engaging (and easy to relate to) topics held my attention throughout my read.

This series was great, and to get the best experience and avoid spoilers, read it in order. I am looking forward to more books in this series from this talented author.

Fortunate to have received a complimentary ARC of this book (thank you), I happily leave my review.

Claire hates Pete and Pete has no idea why. Pete is the darling of the campus. A successful hockey player on the university team and generally always friendly, smiling and helpful. But when Claire publishes an investigative article as a journalist for the college newspaper and makes some enemies, Pete of all people is her knight in shining armor. Pete, who everyone likes, is supposed to be her fake boyfriend. But for Pete, the relationship is anything but fake and Claire also has to realize that the line between hate and love is sometimes very thin.

Trick Shot is book 4 in the Bainbridge Hockey series. All parts can be read independently of each other.

Trick Shot combines two of my favorite tropes, enemies-to-lovers and fake dating, in an absolutely captivating way. Right from the start there's this blatant attraction between Claire and Pete and the exchanges between the two are just incredibly entertaining. Here and there Claire got a little exhausting with her grudge against Pete - especially because as a reader you don't find out for a long time why Claire actually hates Pete. But when the fake dating comes into play, the story really takes off. I really liked the two of them together and Pete in particular captured my heart from page 1. Then there's the amazing team at Bainbridge University that I just can't get enough of, lots of suspense, a little bit of drama and big revelations. Oh yes, and of course we can't forget the Spice. 🌶

4/5 ⭐️ - get the series, read it and fall in love with the boys of Bainbridge Hockey.

ARC Review: 4.5 ⭐️
Trick Shot is book 4 in the Bainbridge Hockey series featuring Pete Santos & Claire Fowler.

Claire has had a grudge against Pete since they started at Bainbridge, but Pete has never been able to figure out why.

Both Pete & Claire are in Florida for a marine bio course and seem to always end up at the same place as one another. The tension between them is quite thick, but there’s a fine line between lust and hate.

They get stuck out in a storm together and end up hunkering down in a ranger cabin, where they end up hooking up, which is ultimately the start of something more. They spend time tougher for the remainder of the time in Florida but when they return to Bainbridge, Pete isn’t ready for things to end.

After Claire writes a controversial article in the school paper, they end up in a fake relationship to help get people off her back. But is it really all that fake?

I thought this book was so fun and the characters felt like genuine people. I love that Pete was the sunshine and Claire was the grumpy one, but they made the perfect pair ! I really enjoy the side characters and I can’t wait to see who might get a book next !

Thank you Andi & wordsmith Publicity for the ARC opportunity !

Claire had one true enemy and it was Pete, but there was also an intense attraction to his bear lumberjack appearance. Pete never realized why Claire didn’t like him and why she made him an enemy, but the opportunity comes to be near her in Florida. The undeniable chemistry between Claire and Pete finally break while they’re away for break however when they get back to campus, Claire releases a story exposing what really happens during this semester break. It puts her in a vulnerable place with everybody on campus that’s been privileged. One thing leads to another, and it seems in the best interest despite not being true that they start dating. He is a beloved hockey player and person on campus and he could be just the person to protect Claire while spending time together they start to see each other for who they are. Claire reveals why she’s always hated Pete and she gets to look into what Pete has been going through with his family and the privilege she thought he had may not have been what she thought. When his mother is diagnosed with cancer for the third time that’s when things start turning from fake to real with Claire’s seeking for stories, and her journalism ways will be ever be able to let go of the fact that she may put herself in harms way with her writing.

🌶️🌶️🌶️

I flew through this book. Trick Shot had me smiling the entire time for so many reasons.

The story begins with Claire and Pete in Florida for a 2 week long marine biology class over winter break. Claire is there as a student, having won a lottery spot and Pete is there as an assistant professor of sorts. Claire hates Pete and Pete has no idea why. When they return to campus after the class is over, they have to decide if the friendship that grew in Florida can continue back home or if they should leave it in the past. But when Claire writes an article putting all sports in a negative light can Pete (a hockey player) put it behind him? And, what happens when Pete’s family troubles begin to show again?

This book was literally so cute. I truly enjoyed this entire book. From the relationship between the main characters to the banter between all of the hockey players to the spicy scenes all the way down to the drama – I loved it all. I honestly thought the book was going to follow the MCs having a “summer romance” type of thing, but when only 20% in they were already back home I was pleasantly surprised to see that I misunderstood the plot. Also, whenever I thought “oh, here’s the main drama point” a new drama point would pop up and it made the story more and more enjoyable because I was never sure what would happen next.

I highly recommend!

Trick Shot is another great addition to the Bainbridge Hockey series by Andi Burns—four books in, and I’m head over heels for her writing. Each book stands alone, but trust me, you’ll want to read them all and fall in love with this team just like I have.

This time, we get Claire and Pete’s dazzling fake-dating, college hockey romance—and it’s packed with everything I love: sizzling banter, emotional depth, and undeniable chemistry. Claire is a budding journalist who’s loathed Pete since freshman year, though he has no idea why. The dynamic between them is electric, and watching that hate-to-love tension slowly unravel into something more had me hooked.

Claire may not believe in love, but Pete makes her rethink everything. When things go wrong and Claire suddenly finds herself enemy number one, Pete is right there by her side. He’s not just a swoony hockey player—he’s a great son, a loyal brother, and an all-around good guy who completely won me over.

The team banter? Perfection. The emotional beats? Spot-on. Claire might’ve thought she had Pete figured out, but she definitely met her match. And I absolutely loved watching her fall.

Andi Burns has nailed it again—this series just keeps getting better!

Trick Shot is a must-read! It is Book #4 in the Bainbridge Hockey series, and I loved it! It is a complete standalone within a series. You don't have to read the other books, but you'll want to. I have loved them all!

Pete Santos is a deliciously sexy cinnamon roll hero who plays hockey. He's man goals, friend goals, fake boyfriend goals, son goals, brother goals.. He's EVERYTHING GOALS! Claire Fowler is a black-cat heroine with tons of sass, and I loved her! They start out as enemies, at least on Claire's end, and once the fake dating starts, the lines blur. The hate sex is hot! There's so much more to both of these characters than meets the eye. I loved watching them discover new things about each other, and the ease of their relationship when they were together. It wasn't without its bumps, but they do get their HEA, and it was beautiful!

The plot was well-written and entertaining. There's heart, heat, and humor. The characters are amazing and heartwarming. They felt like someone you'd want to be best friends with. I loved the journey this author took us on. I was addicted from start to finish. I recommend reading this book!

This book was a total win for me. I went in expecting a cute hockey romance, and Trick Shot gave me that plus so much more. The story follows Claire, a sharp, determined college journalist with a serious grudge against Pete Santos, star of the Bainbridge hockey team. Their dynamic is electric right from the start—tense, snarky, and completely addictive.

What I loved most was how their relationship evolved. It wasn’t just enemies-to-lovers, it was fake dating, mutual respect, and real emotional growth all wrapped up into one story. Pete is seriously one of the most loveable MMCs —kind, grounded, and swoony (and his banter with Claire? Top-tier). Claire is prickly and passionate, but you get her once her walls start to crack.

Bonus points for the hilarious teammates, the spicy scenes that were delivered, and the way this book just felt like college in all the best ways.

If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers stories featuring genuine heart-sizzling chemistry and a cinnamon roll hockey boy who will melt your heart, be sure to pick this one up. I couldn’t put this book down!

Andi Burns' Trick Shot, the fourth book in the Bainbridge Hockey series, delivers a delightful blend of humor, heart, and sizzling chemistry. Tropes include enemies to lovers, fake dating, unexpected connections, and the transformative power of love.
The story follows Pete, a lovable hockey player, and Claire, a smart-mouthed heroine, who find themselves in a fake relationship that feels all too real. Their banter is sharp, their interactions are filled with tension and tenderness, and their journey from faux couple to something more is both entertaining and emotionally resonant.
The characters are authentic and relatable. Pete's endearing nature and Claire's fiery spirit create a dynamic pairing that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. The camaraderie among the hockey team adds depth to the narrative, providing moments of levity and warmth.
For those seeking a sports romance that balances humor, heart, and heat, Trick Shot is a must-read. It's a story that will make you laugh, swoon, and believe in the magic of unexpected love.

“Trick Shot” by Andi Burns is Pete Santos and Claire Fowler’s college hockey fake dating romance, and I have to say it’s my favorite of the series so far! Pete and Claire’s love story was very genuine, and I was hooked from the very beginning.

Pete and Claire’s chemistry was absolutely sizzling, even before she was able to admit her true feelings. Claire spent a long time swearing that she and Pete were only enemies with benefits, but as the book progressed, so did their relationship, and I loved seeing it all unfold.

Pete was this giant teddy bear of a man, a total sweetheart, but at the same time, he also had this possessive streak that I adored. I loved how protective he was of both Claire and the other people he cared about, especially his family.

And Claire! She was honestly such a breath of fresh air, because she was intelligent and confident and capable, and I thought it was inspiring that she was always ready to stand up for what she believed was right. I highly recommend!

Pete is the golden boy of the Brainbridge campus, only Claire can't stand him. But when her investigative story earns her the ire of the baseball team, Pete lends her his clout to protect her from their wrath by pretending to be her boyfriend. Only his feelings for her might not be all that fake.

Read if you like:
-Hockey Romance
-Golden Retriever x Black Cat
-Fake Dating
-Driven FMC
-Found Family

Trick Shot is so fun! The banter between Pete and Claire is *chef's kiss* I loved the chaos of the hockey team and how they accepted Claire into their family without question. And I really hope Mickey gets his own book because he's fast becoming my favorite character. My favorite part was how driven Claire was. She knew what she wanted and went for it. And Pete was supportive and proud. 10/10 book boyfriend behavior.

Trick Shot is also the spiciest of the Bainbridge Hockey series so far. Damn, Pete. *fans self*

I loved Pete. I have read the other novels in this series and really enjoyed them. This novel did not disappoint. I was excited to jump back into this series. I love a good college romance with a hockey them and throw in an enemies to lovers theme and you can count me in. From the first chapter I was pulled back into this series and it held on to my attention until the very last page. I loved Pete! I loved the banter and back and forth between Claire and Pete. There were some laugh out loud moments for me. I liked Claires character but it took a little while for me to warm up to her, but in the end I did. I loved the chemistry between Pete and Claire. I loved how Pete unsupported Claire. I loved how Pete's crew stepped up and stood up for Claire too. I love when a novel can make me laugh and smile and leaves me with a smile on my face. This novel did exactly that for me. So good! Loved it!

Claire is a journalist for the college paper who has made her animosity for Pete clear even if they did become closer over a school trip. When she writes an expose for the paper she draws the ire of many but the last person she expected to support her was Pete, by offering to protect her by pretending they were a couple.

Pete plays for the university hockey team and is always there for anyone he cares about. Even though he doesn’t know why Claire treats him the way she does he isn’t about to give up as she inspires feelings in him he has never felt before. He isn’t about to let her face the situation alone and he is about to use this time to break through her walls and show her that she is no longer alone.

The banter between them is entertaining and Pete’s protective personality is the perfect match for the fiery side of Claire as they find the perfect balance in each other.

Pete Santos is almost everyone’s favorite Hockey star. However, there is one person that doesn’t care for this lumberjack looking hockey player. Claire, she’s not a fan of him. Her reasons are valid, but Pete doesn’t understand why this woman doesn’t care for him. She is always shooting daggers at Pete anytime she’s in the same vicinity as Pete.

When she writes an article and publishes it to the schools newspaper, she becomes public enemy number one. Pete being the wholesome cinnamon roll guy that he is, offers to help because things are getting out of hand with people on campus with their threats towards

While I loved the dynamic between Pete and Claire, I wanted more with them. I felt something was missing. They are perfect for each other. He understands her scowls and introverted tendencies. She understands the side that people don’t see of Pete. This one leaves us with a bit of cliffhanger on some drama that happened. Can’t wait to see how those things pan out.

Trick Shot was a fun read, and I can't wait to read more by Andi!

🏒 Hockey Romance
🏒 College Romance
🏒 Black Cat x Golden Retriever
🏒 Fake Dating
🏒 Hate to Love You

Claire HATES Pete, the golden boy of the university. And he seems to be there at every turn. She’s so into him, but she can’t give into him. Not until her safety is threatened, and Pete and some of his teammates have an idea of how to help her.

Pete and Claire’s relationship was so interesting. I loved finally learning why Claire hated Pete. I also really liked getting to know Pete and his family. Claire’s taste for the truth and her journalism background was really fun. People being upset over her journalism was a very neat problem for this story. This story was good, but Claire was a little too much for me, I just didn't care for her. This wouldn't deter me from reading another book by her.

🌶️🌶️.5

Thank you, Andi and Wordsmith Publicity, for sending me a copy of this book!

When I first read the blurb I thought I would enjoy this book. The more I read the more I really did not enjoy Claire’s character. Without giving away too much, her reasoning for disliking Pete is dumb because he really is a genuinely kind and caring person. She held a grudge for years instead of getting to know this man and coming to an understanding. I understand her frustration but it wasn’t his fault. I also completely understand being guarded but I feel like she took black cat energy to an unnecessary level. Then the whole reason they need space and her unwillingly to compromise but Pete bending for her frustrated the life out of me. Like was his reaction not the best yes but she could’ve tried to see his pov. I’m not sure, but it felt like the author was pushing the disdain entirely too much.

Trick Shot is a funny, enemies to lovers, with fake dating adventure that will have you falling for Claire and Pete. These two have been in school together since they started college and now it’s their senior year. Life seems to want to shake things up and all the drama you can imagine starts happening between these two. Claire is a journalist and will do what she needs to get her story. While Pete is the lovable, hockey player, with all the smarts that she can’t seem to avoid anymore. The big secret is why does Claire hate Pete when you’ll fall for him from the start and wonder why Claire won’t accept her attraction to him. Then from the moment they are on a school trip all things start happening and now they’re fake dating. Can these two move past the hate and give into their feelings or will it all just be for show when an end date? Don’t miss out on Trick Shot.
