In Julie Cox’s A Texan Tale of Love and Magic, satyr and Fox Pass native Luke is settled into a comfortable routine of drinking beer with his best friend, cultivating his small plot of land, recharging the raw sexual energy that fuels his magic, and willfully ignoring his feelings for his friend Sally. But Luke’s daily life is thrown into disarray when he becomes the target of mysterious enemies who won’t hesitate to hurt his fellow myth-folk to get to him. With the help of his friends, and some earthshaking satyr magic, Luke works to protect his town—and sort out his feelings for Sally—before it’s too late.Julie Cox is the author of Chasing Tail and numerous short stories in Circlet Press erotica anthologies. This was a great read that starts with a heavy and intense sex scene. In a kitchen...
...of a restaurant... with customers... and I was expecting sex. I mean, it's clear from the front and back covers that we are going to be dealing with a Satyr.

So, with a Satyr you expect sex, as you normally do.

Still, just walking in on that on page one can be a little jarring.

Despite the vivid sex, the book feels like its really starting out slow. I worried that I was in for an another "The Lion Warriors" by Don Harrison. That novel had been a string of multiple gay ass-poundings distinctive only by the descriptions of Roman clothing and its many points of entry. I couldn't read finish that.

But after a few short chapters, things began to get really interesting. Author Julie Cox began introducing rest of Fox Pass, the community that Luke, our Satyr, lives in. Fox Pass is situated next to a Gateway between universes and the Fae realms. This attracts a lot of reincarnated souls of myths and legends of yore. This is done distinctly and so deftly I felt that I must have read other books in the series.

I haven't. I looked. This is the only Fox Pass novel out there. And that's a crying shame! I really like this community. There's Mermaids and Nightmares and even the Jersey Devil, which puts this work acceptably within the Furry worlds that we now and love, but I am getting ahead of myself.

Being a Satyr, Luke is wonderfully bisexual. And the bisexual action is a wonderful part of the plot as sex is what fuels Luke's magic. Sex is also used as a weapon in this book.

Be warned. There are plenty of triggers in the book. One of the characters has the power to actually rape a Satyr. The scene is not overly graphic, but it is... descriptive.

There were four or five times that I thought the story was over... and it wasn't. The first two times it was endearing. By the pen-ultimate chapter, I was screaming "Just End It!"

But, still enjoyable. These characters were solidly real people, who -- despite their various powers -- choose to live just above the poverty level and make do. Cox doesn't sell this as a great nobility... she just sells it. These people, despite having memories of many previous lives, still have their feet (or hooves) planted in the real world.

I received this book from the publisher for a fair and honest review.

What can I say? Oh, a whole lot. First, don't judge a book by its cover. I mean, Kokopelli doesn't exactly scream sexy, southwestern erotica based around a hot-as-hell satyr.

If you pass up this gold mine of a novel just because, you'll have missed out.

*fans self* I would like to be in an August/Charlie sammich! And now that that's out of the way...

Ms. Cox tore...it...up! CAPRICIOUS is playful, holy hella hot. She has done the unthinkable—twining down home rural Texas with fantasy. The author has introduced so many threads of myths and fairy tales, the book could be fractured. Amazingly, it's not.

CAPRICIOUS is seamlessly woven. It is an effortless meld of true life and fantastical legends.

How to classify? Rugged realism meets bedtime stories. And there are a lot of sensual bedtimes. I approve.

Amid the fast-paced plot, we come to love a whole creative cast of legendary creatures. As myth-folk; a thunderbird, a satry, Tuatha Dé Danann, trolls, nymphs, the headless horseman, a Jersey Devil--who in their human forms are no more than good ol' boys and gals trying to scrape a living together.

In their myth-folk form they're trying to figure out why Luke the satyr is being targeted by trolls and chupacabra. Don't even get me started on Luke, or his horns.

This is clever story-telling with bite and billy goats gruff. It is sensual, crossing the societal boundaries I so like to see destroyed. It's a love story through the ages between Luke and Sally.

Sexy. Action. There is lots of real gritty romance and heat combined with 'yes more' intimate encounters having to do with lust-magic. I really enjoyed the elements of poly, m/m, bi and f/f because it wasn't gratuitous. It was hot and...hot (and meaning-filled).

Make no mistake: CAPRICIOUS is an epic love story. Solid A+ writing every adventurous reader should check out.

I hope there is more in this series. The field is fertile.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. While it's not in my normal wheelhouse, I do love to read outside my comfort zone now and then, and this book was a great adventure out of my normal to-read list.

The characters in this book were varied, and holy cow was there some interesting diversity--in a manner of speaking--between them. Besides the satyr, we get trolls, goblins, fae, and even a headless horseman. Cox has pulled the rich history of folk and fairy tales into the present and given them a place in southern USA.

It could have been easy just to ride that gimmick and not give the book substance, but the plot and threats and especially relationships between characters is so real it was almost painfully true. And as for the... more graphic and risque parts of the book, we get a lot of variety there, too. No spoilers, but there's something for everyone in this book.

Set in a small Texas town, this supernatural erotic romance stars a bisexual centaur named Luke with mythological friends and enemies from various cultures and times. Though Luke’s primary relationship is with Sally, he has various sexual partners male and female.

I really enjoyed the positive bi and poly portrayals and the playful melding of mythologies of various cultures, including that of West Texas. The sex scenes were a turn-on, nicely combining eroticism and humor. I liked the treatment of reincarnation as well and the generally non-Judeo-Christian cosmology and morality. Julie Cox is a good storyteller, and the novel was a jolly romp.

Great story, and HOT!

What a great read. Good myths, good people, good sex, good humor, and good story! What's more, it sure sounds like the author could make a whole series out of this world. Here's hoping...
