I received this book from the publisher for a fair and honest review.
What can I say? Oh, a whole lot. First, don't judge a book by its cover. I mean, Kokopelli doesn't exactly scream sexy, southwestern erotica based around a hot-as-hell satyr.
If you pass up this gold mine of a novel just because, you'll have missed out.
*fans self* I would like to be in an August/Charlie sammich! And now that that's out of the way...
Ms. Cox tore...it...up! CAPRICIOUS is playful, holy hella hot. She has done the unthinkable—twining down home rural Texas with fantasy. The author has introduced so many threads of myths and fairy tales, the book could be fractured. Amazingly, it's not.
CAPRICIOUS is seamlessly woven. It is an effortless meld of true life and fantastical legends.
How to classify? Rugged realism meets bedtime stories. And there are a lot of sensual bedtimes. I approve.
Amid the fast-paced plot, we come to love a whole creative cast of legendary creatures. As myth-folk; a thunderbird, a satry, Tuatha Dé Danann, trolls, nymphs, the headless horseman, a Jersey Devil--who in their human forms are no more than good ol' boys and gals trying to scrape a living together.
In their myth-folk form they're trying to figure out why Luke the satyr is being targeted by trolls and chupacabra. Don't even get me started on Luke, or his horns.
This is clever story-telling with bite and billy goats gruff. It is sensual, crossing the societal boundaries I so like to see destroyed. It's a love story through the ages between Luke and Sally.
Sexy. Action. There is lots of real gritty romance and heat combined with 'yes more' intimate encounters having to do with lust-magic. I really enjoyed the elements of poly, m/m, bi and f/f because it wasn't gratuitous. It was hot and...hot (and meaning-filled).
Make no mistake: CAPRICIOUS is an epic love story. Solid A+ writing every adventurous reader should check out.
I hope there is more in this series. The field is fertile.
