All Daniel wanted was to escape the cruel man who had been left in charge of the family farm. Little could he guess that his path to freedom would intersect with the desperate fight for his nation’s independence.
Based on a true story, Daniel Applegate is a story of a young man coming of age, facing painful truths, and discovering his inner strength. Told with wit and realism, this is a story that will stay with you long after you read the last page.
Pick up Daniel Applegate today, and see how some family legends are simply too rich to overlook!
I started this project in 2015 on whim that soon grew into a passion to find the family story of Daniel Applegate within the landscape of the American Revolution.
I did find him through many years of research an a little bit of imagination.

Extremely good reading. I was initially motivated to read this book since one of my schoolmates from many years ago had penned it and I was curious. I was overwhelmed immediately by how descriptive the writing was and how it allowed me to somehow put myself and my own feelings into the situations described in the book. I tried to read it impartially, but expecting exactly what resulted in an excellent read. Terry was always an overachiever and I certainly was not disappointed in any way. I read slowly and try to comprehend and retain what I read. I was addicted and could not set the book down. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. When is the next book coming out ???
The story of Daniel quickly draws you in and keeps your attention. Although fiction (but based on a true story), it is a good reminder of the treacherous conditions soldiers in the Revolution faced, which is often overlooked. This adds depth to the sacrifices made. At the same time, it presents the tension between justification for the Revolution and the perspective of Indigenous people. It is thoughtful and just a really good read.
