Blaming herself for her best friend’s death, Cady shuts herself off from the rest of the world, determined not to let anyone close again, determined not to care.
But then circumstances throw her into the path of Hunter Black, a man who wasn’t used to hearing no. A Dom who sets her heart racing, has her craving his dominance, his touch, his love.
From the moment he meets Cady, Hunter can’t get her out of his mind. He offers her a job to get her off the streets and under his protection. He wants to dominate her, protect her, love her.
Now they just need to overcome their pasts and figure out that happily ever after really does exist.
Laylah loves reading, but she particularly loves a good romance with some seriously alpha men. Protective, possessive men with large hearts. Writing has become her passion and she hopes her readers enjoy her stories as much as she does writing them.
Slightly better cover then book fives. but still WAY too busy IMO.
So I enjoyed MAKE ME, SIR when I read it yesterday and decided to give another book in this series a try. Since Hunter intrigued me, I choose his book. And I liked it...mostly. These are sweet books. They have hot sex scenes. Little or no angst and no OW/OM drama.
But OMG the heroine in this one was such a friggin IDJIT. She is homeless and living on the streets. She has people offering her a choice of three different jobs. People willing to help her out. What does she do?? She turns them down because she doesn't accept charity. YOU LIVE ON THE FRIGGING STREETS DUMBASS! She is fine staying in shelters..isn't THAT charity? Who in their right mind wants to stay living on the streets instead of taking a job offer? A VERY nice job offer I may add! She then only takes the job because someone is stalker her and she has to get out of the city...oy vay.
Forever Yours, Sir had the potential to be a 4 star read but the discrepancies and spelling/grammar errors brought the rating down. As for the story itself, it was sweet with just the right amount of sassy brat. In fact I would love to see more of Cady and Hunter and see what progress they've made. Especially on the caveman front ;)
Hunter offers homeless Cady a job in his security firm. The rest of the book details their growing relationship, the secrets both are keeping from the other, and the cases they pursue. This is a standalone in terms of the couple; characters from Just For You, Sir do appear, but not for long and there is a case that I suspect will be continued in succeeding books.
If you've never read a Laylah Roberts book before, this one contains all her usual strengths: a likeable MC whose HEA you root for; an H laser-focused on his h; and an h in desperate circumstances that force her to depend on the H.
This also contains all her usual weaknesses: non-descriptive prose (I can't tell you what anything or anyone looked like); no transitions between chapters; rushed/OTT action; and melodramatic backstories.
3 1/2 stars. I might have rated this more highly since I did like that Cady was submissive only in the bedroom and very self-sufficient outside of it but for four things. First of all, the double-standard apparent in many of these generic books -- the H insists the h tell him everything, but he's allowed to keep big secrets from her -- is one of my pet peeves. Second, the Failure to Communicate trope has never, in the entire history of this genre, been a compelling plot point. Third, the Stalker trope is even less so (not to mention overdone). And, finally, I didn't like that Hunter was her boss and that they had smexy times at work.
After the death of her partner and best friend, Cady leaves her home town and shuns everything she’s ever known choosing to do her personal penance by giving everything up and living on the streets. She’s determined to keep everyone out and never care about anyone again. But when another young homeless woman befriends Cady, she can’t help but to try and protect her from her psychotic and controlling ex. She takes a one night job as part of security team to act as a decoy to keep her friend safe. She never thought it would turn in to more.
Hunter Black didn’t plan on developing feelings for the homeless woman they hired to fill in as a decoy. But he can’t get her off of his mind. He offers her a job on their team to get her off the streets, but his urge to protect her doesn’t really let her do much other than sit in the office. When she’s injured on the job, Hunter decides he’s the one taking care of her . . . and that’s when sparks truly start to fly.
Will Cady’s omission about her past, however, come between them as they explore their new relationship? And, will Hunter’s obsession with finding his sister’s murderer be the thing that tears them apart forever?
I enjoyed Cady and Hunter’s story. I can understand how they were both destroyed by the loss of loved ones, although I’m not quite sure I understand why Cady ended up on the streets . . . It was a fun dynamic watching her learn to submit to Hunter while also getting him to understand that she is more than capable of handling herself while on a case for Black-Gray Securities. It was clear they would be a fantastic couple and help fill the void they were each missing f hey could only move on from their pasts.
This book has plenty of super sexy moments as well as a suspenseful plot. If found it to be an enjoyable read and great follow up to book one of the series as the story flowed nicely from Just For You, Sir to Forever Yours, Sir. 4 stars.
I absolutely love this Dom’s of Decadence series by the inimitable author Laylah Roberts, who writes such strong storylines with alpha Dom main characters and lots of suspense to boot! Cady and Hunter are so much alike with their instincts, retribution and protection of each other. The rebellious Cady who is impulsive and can look after herself puts herself in danger often! Both main characters are tough yet vulnerable but Hunter is also old fashioned, controlling and a fierce protector! Can Hunter attain justice for his sister Angie’s death while also trying to keep Cady safe? Can Hunter even get Cady to accept his job offer and get her away from sleeping on the streets, she hates pity and charity! Both live with their haunted dark past Paying their Penance! I can once again highly recommend this great read. I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy
Ex-cop Cady has let her guilt over her partner's death ruin her life. She quit her job, left her friends, and is now homeless and alone. But when she helps Jacey (from Just For You, Sir, she comes to the attention of Hunter Black, who wants to give her a job and help her get off the streets.
Survivor's guilt is a terrible thing. Cady reacted to a screaming woman at a domestic disturbance the same way any cop would, but still is beating herself up over her partner's death. She doesn't even let the people at Black-Gray Investigations know she's actually qualified for the job they're giving her (as an ex-cop). She's a strong character, despite her overabundance of guilt, and a perfect match for Hunter. It's a really good romance novel.
This was a quick read especially considering I may have skimmed the naughty bits after a while. I liked how she overcame her issues to undertake employment with the security company. The stalker thing was a little unrealistic but a nice diversion to the case and another reason to lay on the guilt for the hero. The heroine was injured during a take down, injured again interfering in her neighbors domestic and finally with the stalker. Why must some authors want to hurt the women so much? Just saying.🙃
I enjoyed moments in this book but some of the parts were very cliched. I kept thinking.....Cady is a cop.....why is she so emotional and sensitive to crime scenes especially with her hardened background. And her new career aspirations........really, very predictable .....bet you she will work with kids in foster care.....#JustSaying....I wanted a few plot twists and turns that were less predictable.
Cliche, lame and boring. I can not stand dominate male physically over power reluctant sub because he couldn’t control his overwhelming desire for her..... its call Rape!!
I can hear heroine saying no, let me go, you bastard. Despite the fact that her “pussy was clenching with need”, “no” still means NO!
I rolled my eyes so hard it is giving me a headache. I am not joking, I am having a headache.... argh!!!
After diving into "Just For You, Sir," the first book in the "Doms of Decadence" series, I was eager to continue with this story to uncover Cady's fate. Cady is running from her past with everything she's got, but it inevitably catches up to her. Meanwhile, Hunter is fixated on his own past, determined to find those responsible for his sister's death. Together, they confront their histories, aiming to forge a brighter future.
Laylah masterfully weaves a narrative brimming with intrigue, kink, passion, humor, and raw emotion that will hook you from the start. Cady might come off as tough and streetwise, but she has a soft spot for her friend Jacey and goes out of her way to help her. Throughout the story, it's clear just how isolated and lonely Cady truly is—her guilt over her friend's death drives her to self-punishment.
Fortunately, Cady comes to terms with the fact that she's in over her head when it comes to dealing with a stalker. Though she keeps it to herself, she takes charge of the situation by accepting a job at Black-Grey Investigations. From that point, the tension escalates, pitting the Dom against the fiery woman with secrets in a captivating clash.
This book delivers a wealth of spicy love scenes, complete with light BDSM, along with gripping intrigue and excitement that builds towards a satisfying resolution. The chemistry between the characters is electric. I found myself growing fond of Cady and even appreciating Hunter for his protective instincts, despite his gruff exterior. I can’t wait to see where their journey leads and what else unfolds in future installments of the series.
After reading Just For You, Sir (Doms of Decadence, #1), I had to read this story in order to find out what happens to Cady! She seems so tough and streetwise, yet she has a soft spot for and tries to help Jacey. In this volume, we see just how alone and lonely she really is. Of course, she's gotten to this state by punishing herself over her friend's death, for which she blames herself. Luckily, she realizes that she is in over her head in regards to a situation with a stalker, and although she doesn't tell anyone about it, at least she attempts to get herself out of the situation: by taking a job at Black-Grey Investigations.
"[Hunter] offered you a job? And he kissed you," Gray looked thoughtful... [Cady] sighed as Gray stood there, staring down at her. "You're just as stubborn as he is, aren't you? Only you have better manners."
Of course, things only get more interesting from there, as the Dom and the spitfire with secrets go head to head, repeatedly. Lots of spicy love scenes (with some light BDSM included), intrigue and excitement, and finally a sweet resolution.
The interplay between the characters is delightful. I loved Cady, and even Hunter despite his gruffness and overprotectiveness towards her. I am looking forward to reading more about them and others in their gropu in future installments of the series.
Hunter sees Cady and can’t get her out of his mind, and she’s the first woman that he’s been interested in since the death of his sister. Cady is thinking things about Hunter, but she doesn’t let anyone close since her friend died, and she blames herself. After Cady get injured and Hunter jokes about her needing a spanking, things get hot between the two. Cady soon realises that Hunter is a Dom, and for the first time she feels her mind free. The panic doesn’t set in when Hunter tells her that he wants more with her and knows they have to trust each other, Cady wants to try to be what Hunter wants, but doesn’t know if she can let go of her past. After Cady gets injured Hunter turn overly protective, but Cady isn’t having it. Hunter knows that he’s been pushing Cady away but with the break on his sister’s case he becomes distracted, When Cady gets injured he realises that she is more important but with Cady giving him an ultimatum, he’s worried he may be to late in giving her the one thing he ask of her his trust. Although it can be read as a standalone, I enjoyed it more having the read the previous book.
We were introduced to both of them in the previous book. Cady was homeless, moving from shelter to shelter across Austin, trying to survive. Hunter, who was in Austin helping out a friend, crossed paths with her, and their story began. Hunter has very old-fashioned views about whether or not a woman should do a dangerous job, which causes tension between them. However, Cady’s past holds secrets that explain why she ended up homeless and why the kind of job Hunter offers her aligns with what she’s done before. Their dynamic is intriguing, and I enjoyed watching their story unfold as their differences clashed and eventually complemented each other.
No plot spoilers There are some potential triggers relating to sexual abuse against women. There are some grammatical and editorial errors but not enough to kill the book. The characterisation is good with individual personalities that allow you to form a connection. The plotline is engaging enough to keep you turning the pages. There are some BDSM sex scenes but nothing heavy and some swearing. It's a bit of escapism for a few hours and if you are a fan of the genre you should enjoy the book
I liked all the sexy, steamy scenes, but Hunter was too dominating. The spankings were too much. I can't wrap my head around spanking a grown woman to punish her. I get fun sexy spankings, but the over the top discipline ones are not for me. And it's okay for him to hide things and he doesn't get "punished"? Maybe I'm more of a feminist than the author. I have liked her other books and I'm not opting to not read any more, but I'm hoping the punishment spankings are toned down in future books!
Cady is running from her last as hard as she can, but it still catches up with her. Hunter for his part is stuck on the past trying to find those responsible for his sister's death. Together they work though the past to hopefully build a brighter future for themselves. Layla weaves a story filled with intrigue, kink, sexy time, family, friends, laughter and emotion that draws you in hook line and sinker.
I'm giving this book a three star even though I did not finish it; it may have gotten better by the end, but I did not like Cady, at all, and Hunter's dialogue, with her, was eye rolling bad. Excerpt:
“Damn, I swear I nearly came in my pants. Do you know how hot you are? I have to taste you.”
Seriously?! This sounds like a poorly written screenplay from a porno!
Hunter finds Cady and uses her for an undercover assignment when he was in Austin – he offers her a job in Dallas but she hesitates, when Gary talks with her and give her his card, she finally calls and accepts the job with them – will she be able to work with Hunter and will they eventually work out their difference and past fears to make the relationship work.
Loved it, loved it, loved it.....the first one in the series had me hooked. But the guy Hunters description in this one was an awesome image when paired with the scenes while he was dominating cady. Damn, got to go download#3. Keep up with your writing style you are extremely talented.
Cady is no damsel in distress, she certainly knows how to handle herself. Hunter had to eventually accept that she will only be submissive in the bedroom. In the beginning they found hard to trust each but they slowly learned as their relationship grew. I enjoyed the story but the ending is a bit sudden.
“And to happy ever after,” she added. “I always thought it was a myth. But now I know I just had to meet you to believe.” Hunter and Cady are two strong personalities who just seem to mesh well. Even with his dominant ways, Cady knows just how to push back and these two are so super spicy!!
This is the second book of the series. It is a decent follow-up. The characters are well-developed, likable, and easy to root for. I will continue with the series as long as the books remain affordable. My only critique is that the climax and resolution happen very quickly. Ideally, it needs to be drawn out over more than a couple of short paragraphs.
I definitely enjoyed this book more than book one. I loved Cady's sass and her attitude when we met her in bk 1 and was happy to see she got her own story. The writing seems to have improved so hoping bk 3 continues in this manner.
Hunter is the man you never want to cross swords with. Fierce, aggressive and plain spoken, his demeanour is more beast like than man. Until Cady's appearance forces him to revise his perceptions. But will she tame his more wild side?
I liked this one more than the first one, more story and sexy scenes. Would have loved more to read about the club, maybe to have one or two of the girls that might be able to stay.
The plot from #1 book continues into #2 focusing on Hunter and Cady. I like the dialogue and characters; the plot is weak and predictable (again ). The flow is much better; not choppy as in #1 book. Hunter is too dominant and I am disappointed in Cady accepting it, especially at work.
This storyline takes a lot of twists and turns but carries the characters through from the last book in the series. Candy has major trust issues mostly with herself. It takes a lot of work and patience along with solving a mystery to get these characters to their HEA.
