When Cassie Shaw looks at Noah Hunt, she sees a knight in shining armor, but she’s convinced he sees her as nothing but damaged goods.
Noah saved her from a brutal assault, talked her through a panic attack, and held her when she broke down crying.
Noah is a mystery. He avoids talking about his past, his phone rings with calls from four women he won’t talk about, and he receives texts from over a dozen more. To add to the intrigue, when Cassie tries to kiss him, he gets a look of sheer panic in his eyes.
Cassie finally finds a chink in Noah’s armor, and realizes that he’s even more damaged than she is.
Born and raised in Brooklyn NY, Vincent Morrone now resides in Upstate NY with his wife. (Although he can still speak fluent Brooklynese.) His twin daughters remain not only his biggest fans, but usually are the first to read all of his work. Their home is run and operated for the comfort and convenience of their dogs.
Vincent has been writing fiction, poetry and song lyrics for as long as he can remember, most of which involve magical misfits, paranormal prodigies and even on occasion superheroes and their sidekicks.

When I saw that there was a trigger warning on this book....I didn't think much of it, I thought it'd be a small part of the story...I was wrong. I know this is probably a spoiler, but when it comes to trigger warnings, I'd rather not put it in a spoiler bracket and hope that someone who has dealt with something so tragic reads the spoiler before reading the book..
I enjoyed the book, for the most part, some parts were...maybe a little too descriptive for me to get past, but it was written beautifully, and I was very much sucked in. I loved the characters, they were all very diverse and I enjoyed their personalities a lot.
There are sad books, and there are depressing as hell books, and there are books that deal with things that are just too serious and real to want to read about...this is the latter. I cried my eyes out during a few things that happened. This is not at all a lighthearted read, and the T.W. needs to be taken seriously.
The writing did not flow for me. The premise was very good but it was executed poorly. Cassie is about to get assaulted when Noah steps in and saves her. Cassie suffers from panic attacks after she witnessed her mother being raped and murdered at the age of 12. Noah has his own secrets. Cassie feels that she is always seen as weak. I personally think she just put that it her head to feel sorry for herself.
I felt like the first quarter of the book was Cassie was talking to her friends about whether Noah liked her or not. It got old fast. "Does he like me or does he want to be friends?" Cassie was going to be a freshman in college. The dialogue and actions of these characters felt awkward and immature. The friends annoyed me by having an opinion about everything and it all felt more like junior high than college behavior.
This may work for you, but it did not work for me. You may love it. I am not telling you not to read it.
A lire !
Both the main characters in this were really strong, and I really liked them. I felt sorry for Cassie, as what she had to see when she was younger would have been awful. I felt even more sorry for Noah, as what he went through all those years was absolutely horrific. They made such a good couple!
This was a really good read, and it had me tearing up quite a few times!
This book was a wonderful surprise. Phenomenal writing and storytelling.
This story has it all...suspense, love, hate, heroes and survivors and some extremely heartbreaking soul shattering violence. However through it all the strength, courage and trust bring the book completely together.
Noah has had a childhood that horror movies are made from and yet he is strong, determined and courageous. With everything he has gone through and all that he still goes through is to help everyone around him. He has to be one of the most selfless character I have read about.
Cassie is also another strong character. She has overcome witnessing a very horrific, violent and devastating act of violence within her own family. She is outgoing and even after being attacked she still puts others before herself. When Noah saves her, she also sees that she can do the same for him and reading their story unfolds is beautiful.
Loved all the supporting characters and the parts they played with the main characters. The epilogue was perfect for this book. Thank you Vincent Morrone for an amazing story.
The synopsis of this book puts it right up my alley but the dialogue and overall writing ruined it. So page one is female mc talking about her panic attacks...which ok she's an assault victim I understand. Except the assault from the blurb hasn't happened yet and you don't actually find out the cause of the panic attacks till the 10% mark. Annoying but I pressed on. The dialogue was incredibly awkward and the descriptions were overly repetitive. Also they failed to capitalize a proper noun. The overall all feel of the book was very new adult which I'm not a huge fan of but the deciding factor is when she's talking about the original traumatic incident and she starts talking about Tyler. Who the hell is he? this is like 20% in and there's this wholenew character that's never been mentioned before. Since life's too short for bad books I decided to go ahead and take the loss on this one
It was an okay book. It wasn't good or great, it was just decent. It would have been so much better if it didn't have so many spelling and grammar mistakes, and I suck at spelling and grammar, so if I can point them out it mush be pretty bad. I liked the story line, but I don't think it quite lived up to its potential.
This book was a very emotional one 😭 This is my 1st book by this author and it was a very disturbing emotional but beautiful story! 😢 It was such an amazing book! It is one of my favorites!
Vincent Morrone never disappoints, as this is also shown in his latest work, Just Breathe, a dramatic and romantic thriller about redemption and love beyond flaws.
This novel absolutely blew me away. Every time I had to bookmark it and put it down, I was alreadly looking forward to picking it back up again. It's original and full of moments that put you on the edge of your seat, throwing plot twists at you that you never see coming. Although there is a great amount of tragedy, heartache and pain in this novel, there is also a great amount of love and romance to be read. This novel is a delightful mix of drama, action, and romance, and definitely a novel I will not be forgetting anytime soon.
The characters in this novel are all one of a kind. I loved the inner conflicts and emotional problems that arose from between characters, and the fact that each and every single character had a unique story and personality. This individuality in the novel came as a surprise to me, as most novels I have read do not have this amount of detail within it. You either hate or love each character, but no matter what, the drama they create is always addicting and suspenseful.
The writing (like always) is outstanding. Morrone has a grand talent for writing with a "no-bull" initiative. There is no useless dialogue, no filler descriptions, no boring pointless rambling as many authors fail to eliminate from their writing. Morrone writes simply and effortlessly, skillfully creating novels with perfect description and details, yet saving us from lengthy pointless writing. It's unique, suspenseful, and addicting.
Overall, this novel quickly became one of my favorites. The plot was unique and fresh, the characters were raw and addicting, and the writing was spectacular. A must-read for anyone.
Wow ..... Just wow! This is a book that will stay with me for a long time. Why? Well .... To know that people go through horrific things like that (and survive) on a daily basis is truly heartbreaking. This story was horrific at times but also so gripping you couldn't put it down. All you wanted was a happy ending for Noah, Cassie and the other victims. The book could've been proofread and edited better as it has numerous errors but that didn't distract from it at all. This is the first book I've read by this author and almost certainly won't be the last
I have rarely given a 5 star rating, in fact if I can't say something really good about a book, I usually will not give a review at all. The only thing stopping me from giving this a 5 star rating is whomever proofread this did a disservice to the writer, so many sentences that made no sense, distracted from the story lines. I would love to proofread for this author. Surprised by the ending, I never had a clue who was at the door. Great book despite the proofreading.
What a wonderful book. Couldn't help but to fall in love with all the characters but especially Noah. This book has a little bit of everything...mystery, secrets, suspense, friends and of course a beautiful love story. I have to say this is definitely in my list of faves!!!!
Just Breathe is a good book--fast-paced and interesting. The "secret" was a surprise. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a love story/mystery that entertains.
I'm really starting to think I'm getting TOO lucky with all these amazing Kindle Unlimited I've been reading lately. This was an amazing story and I was loving every second of it. My only critique would be the spelling errors that were minor and was due to not proof reading.
Excellent couldn't put the book down. Heart breaking and uplifting and truly inspiring that people can from such suffering and still love . The best book I've read recently
Just breathe is a book that really leaves me thinking.
Before I started, my roommate, who already read this book, warned me that the book touches on very dark topics. For a moment, I thought about giving up but if I can endure horror movies, I should be able to read the book. Turns out that is a very good decision.
The first half of book leaves a lot of doubts about who Noah really is and what happened in his past. He definitely has something in his past that could possibly keep people away from him. What is that? From the first half of book, all I can tell is that Noah is brave and strong. He is really into Cassie but he tries not to be close to her for some unknown reasons.
The second half of book starts to solve all the mysteries. I started to learn about Noah's past, about what made him act so weird. I was always guessing before the truth is revealed. Aside from Noah's weird behavior and the women that called her consistently, I wondered who is Noah's father. He never ever mentioned him. If Tom is not the guy who raped and murder those girls recently, then who is responsible for all those?
I got an answer for all my questions in the end and I really like the way the author tells us about the story. Every chapter is revealing something about Noah and once you put the pieces together, you starts to have the whole picture. I enjoyed it very much. Good work!
Very emotional. The premise of the story was quite interesting, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the dialogue felt stiff and unnatural. It made it kind of hard to get through the book. If the story hadn't been as interesting as it was (at least for me), I would not have finished. Because of that it gets three stars.
This had been on my to read list for a while. I finally decided to start it yesterday and couldn't put it down. This book deals with very sensitive subject matters. I thought I figured out Noah's secret but it was not what I expected when it was finally revealed! The love story between Cassie and Noah was perfectly written. I loved this book.
I read this book in one day, because I couldn't put it down.
To be honest, the "About" section didn't really make me very interested in reading this book. It sounded boring. Cliche. This book is ANYTHING BUT. I decided to read it because it was recommended to me by Kindle Unlimited, and coming off an Addison Moore binge, I needed something to distract me from the sadness I felt at running out of Moore's novels to read ): Lol.
I will say, I have a tougher time getting sucked into books that are written in 3rd person POV. I MUCH, MUCH, MUCH prefer novels written in 1st person POV, beyond compare. 3rd person novels end up feeling repetitive to me… so many times the character's name is repeated, over and over. And then they have to break it up sometimes by just referring to them as "he", or "she". Which, I guess some people prefer. But not me. It distracts me, and makes me feel like I'm just watching someone tell a story, in my head. Whereas with 1st person POV, I feel like I'm IN the novel. I feel like I'm living it. It's just much more enthralling for me. So, that being said, this novel is written in the 3rd person, and I almost X-ed out of it for that reason alone. I'm glad I didn't.
The other main issue I had with this book is that it left a lot to be desired. Everything was just skimmed through. There were no details, no pictures painted. I don't like that. Where you have no idea what anything looks like or what's going on, because it's almost like everything is just a summary. You don't get an image of the characters in your head, or their surroundings. It leaps from one thing to the next, without proper transitions. In one sentence, a character will be alone, getting ready, and literally 20 words later, there are multiple characters, in another place, doing something else, that's set hours later. It leaves gaps and holes. I don't like that.
The reason I DID give this book 4 stars is because I think the storyline itself was very unique. It was raw, as far as the dirty, dark side goes. This book didn't censor any of that. I find that male authors are a lot more likely to write these things into their novels, for some reason, than female authors. You can definitely tell this was written by a man. I mean that in a neutral way, not a good or bad thing, just definitive. The storyline was different than anything else I've read in a young readers, romance category. It was crazy! You couldn't have guessed what Noah's secret was if you tried.
I feel like the character development kind of sucked, there wasn't much of a real history for either Cassie or Noah, aside from the tragedies that afflicted them. I feel like there's so much more to a character than just the trauma that changes them.
I also felt like Noah went from being incredibly introverted and resistant to opening up, to just opening up nonchalantly, without much of a transitional period. It felt like a sudden jump, as opposed to proper progression. Perhaps I'm just expecting too much…. but I just felt there were a lot of holes in the story.
The book begins with a Trigger Warning… but I don't think it's properly described. It's not the sexual assault scenario that people should likely be forewarned about, but more the criminal aspects, near the end.
All in all, it was a good book, but it could have been written a lot better. The STORY ITSELF was wonderful, and unique, and very interesting. The construction of it all… well, that kind of sucked.
Wow!!! I am so glad that I finally got to read this book! You see, one day I was on Amazon looking for a book to read when I came across Just Breathe. I loved the cover and then when I read the synopsis, I was sold. I bought it. However, I had some things come up and the book was pushed back and almost forgotten. (Sorry Mr. Morrone!) Well, when I went to read it, I had problems with the download and it would get stuck and blah, blah, blah. After phone calls to Amazon and some tinkering, I finally got it and I am so elated that I did. I Loved this book! It was an amazing read and I encourage everyone to read it. I don't want to give anything away because I want you to find out for yourself how incredible this book is. Ok, so why the 5 stars?? Well, I loved how the synopsis gives you only so much to reel you in and get you interested. Then as you delve into the story there are all these surprises. The author did an amazing job with this book. I loved the 'I didn't see that coming' plot. I felt like I was reading a book by James Patterson or something. Yes, there are some editing problems here and there but who cares when the story is so good! Noah and Cassie, the main characters, were perfect. At first Cassie was a little immature and whiny but she grows up as the story progresses. Noah is incredible!! He is definitely my new book boyfriend! I loved them together and really cared for them. As much as I loved them, I loved the secondary characters! Cassie's Dad and brother Tyler, her friends, Noah's grandfather, Amber, Diana, Pamela - I was just as enamored with them! I cared about all of them! Now, how many books can you say that about? I could keep going on and on but I'll stop here. I'm not going to rehash what is already known from the back of the book. All I'm going to say is to buy this book, put it on your TBR list, whatever- just read it!! You can't go wrong!! Lastly, I'd like to give a shout out to this awesome author. Thank You for this incredible book!! I am hooked and a fan for life! I look forward to reading more of your work!! So, run people, get this book!!!
I loved the premise of this story line. It was different. I have thought a lot about this book and have read it a few times. I feel it could be a great book. I hope the author will redevelop the book and invest in making it the great book it could be. I Also warn folks who try avoid books that have graphic elements. This book contains triggers for past victims of kidnapping, rape and assault. This book also contains language and relationship elements that are avoided by some. I just happen to like to read stories about damaged people.
The writer really needs the critical eye of a good editor who will ask all the hard continuity questions and challenge the author to refine some of the undeveloped places in the story line. This book needs to be rewritten. Some of the conversation between her and her friends at the beginning of the book was really juvenile. An editor would help the author take care of some errors in the book. One in particular is where a friend of Tom, her would be rapist, is trying to intimidate her into dropping her claims that Tom attacked her. Noah, the guy who rescued her the first time from Tom, rescues her again from Trent. The event was plausible in the story line but the author makes a mistake in the telling. Noah throws Trent away from his grasp on Cassie. Another friend goes to help Trent up. In the writing though the author accidentally makes it Tom who is being helped up. Tom is supposedly in hiding because he is wanted by the police for trying to rape Cassie and also as a suspect in other much more violent attacks that have been taking place around town. There are other little errors like this in the book that distract from the story line.
All that being said, I liked the story. I am not trying to nitpick here. I honestly hope the author takes the opportunity to republish the book in a second edition.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Wow, this book totally takes you on a roller coaster of emotions as you walk through the character's journey, both individually and all together. I enjoyed all of the family dynamics that came into play, and really enjoyed the epilogue. I read this book through Amazon Kindle Unlimited, but I may end up getting myself a digital or paperback copy later on. Read it if you like a darker or more gripping contemporary book, the twist/secret is not what one usually reads or expects in a contemporary book.
