Sweetened Action Thriller

First of all a huge thanks to P.J. Nunn and the author for providing me with a copy of the book

Dead Men Don't is an action thriller that comes with everything that is indigenous to this genre. A plot that demands your curiosity, adrenaline and full attention. A central character that excels in evading danger with a swift flick of his hands. In short the book has everything that usually goes into an action thriller but then there is also the romance quotient that overshadows the entire book which makes the book more of a romantic thriller than an action/spy thriller.

The language and narration is flawless
in terms that it runs smooth and flows without any obstructions. The build of the story is so good that it absorbs the readers pretty quickly into the book. If i have to point out something that did not sit well with me then it has to be the romance portion which was muffling a good action plot but on the other hand it gives the story a strong foundation.

If you have been reading a whole lot of action thrillers and usually get caught up in the intricacies of the politics and the workings of the team , technicalities and modus operandi to actually enjoy the book, then this book solves that problem for you. The book has kept its plot quite simple without much complications and information allowing you to go with the flow. The book is for those who want a simple action/spy thriller

Though Sometimes i felt it was too sweetened or simplified to become an action thriller
but if you treat it as a romance novel, then you will love the developments and the twist and turn of the book. Even though the book was second one in a series and i had not read the first book, i never felt that i had missed much as whatever required to enjoy this book was sufficiently provided and whatever had been there in the first book was briefly brushed up so that you understand the basic scenarios.

Dead Men Don't is a simplified action thriller that does not go into much technicalities and keeps it straight and simple enough to make the readers get in and get out quickly. The language and the narration is really smooth and good. There is an easiness to the book that is rare for an action thriller.

Andi Merritt is the pampered daughter of a mob boss. She has lived a privileged life, although it has also been a sheltered one. And it has not been a happy life because with her father’s position she realizes that all the people in her life are trying to use her to get even with her father or to get in his good graces. No one cares about her as a person, only as a means to an end. And her father is not a loving man since her mother died.

Andi is kidnapped and she does not know why or where she has been taken. One would think that her father would be frantic to find her and would use the mob to bring her back. In reality, her father is behind the kidnapping. He is using her to pay off gambling debts he has accumulated. I told you he is not a loving man!

Levi Komakov is an ex-CIA former sergeant in the British SAS. When his old friend, Jonas, and an FBI agent ask him to rescue her, he agrees because he really detests crimes against women. His nickname is “The Ghost” and he is very good at getting in and getting out without getting caught. He knows the job will not be easy but he does not figure that the biggest threat will come from Andi herself. She is a real spitfire and she does not want to go with him quietly or willingly. She definitely has trust issues and she does not know if Levi is a friend or an enemy. But since her options of escape are limited, she decides she will go with him (especially after he throws her over his shoulder). Will Levi be able to keep Andi safe and will Andi learn to trust someone?

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The action moves along at a breakneck speed throughout the entire book and the reader only has a few pages to catch their breath between adventures. The author does a great job of describing the scenery and the action is such vivid words and details that I felt like I was right there watching the action all around me. Whether it was in the desert or in the woods or in a palace, I felt like I was transported there. In fact, much of the time while I was reading, I felt like I was watching a television show. While reading I could visualize the special effects of the explosions and the sandstorm in my head. I think this is the sign of a very talented author, being able to bring things to life in the readers mind. This is a great thing in my opinion. At times I felt like I had to suspend reality in order to enjoy the book fully, but I think that is common when reading (or watching) action adventure. This did not take anything away from my enjoyment.

The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. Andi is a feisty spunky spitfire who will do whatever it takes to stay alive. And even though she has lived a sheltered life, she is able to adjust to her surroundings and circumstances very well. Levi lives by a code of ethics and he will do whatever has to be done to protect those in his care. He does not want to kill others but he will as a last resort. Both Andi and Levi have baggage from their pasts to deal with. Andi has trust issues and she also feels unworthy of love. How can anyone else love her when her own father does not? Levi has lost his wife and he feels guilty because he could not save her. He does not want the same thing happening with Andi.

This book deals with American women being kidnapped and sold on the black market. Unfortunately this is a real life problem and the author did a good job bringing attention to the situation. There are also sections that give examples of self defense moves that women can use if being attacked. This was a positive in my opinion.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted action adventure read. This book is really a great one and should not be missed. I have not read any other books by this author but I plan to read book one very soon.

A sexy Black Ops professional comes to the aid of a kidnapped woman.

Levi Komakov doesn't realize what he's getting himself into when he's charged with rescuing Anderson "Andi" Merrit from what appears at first glance is a kidnapping for cash or influence. Most likely the latter since her father is a heavy hitter for a crime family. Without spoiling the plot, let me say that the truth is far more twisted. Someone close to Andi has betrayed her and set her up for a life of servitude and abuse.

Is it any wonder then that Andi is a bit uncooperative when Levi first appears on the scene? From her point of view, this man may be someone just as dangerous as her captors, someone who wants her for his own ends. So, I can forgive her for making her rescue far more dangerous and complicated than it needs to be. Still, there are points in the novel, usually when the situation is most grim, that her temperamental displays grated on me. On the other hand it was a pleasure to watch her gradual transformation from victim into hero.

Andi's growth is in large part due to Levi taking her seriously and not underestimating the danger she's in or the power of the people who are after her. Though he falls a little too hard too fast...and then constantly second guesses himself...he's a good alpha with a nice balance of sensitivity and strength. He and Andi share plenty of chemistry.

For a romance novel, the plotting is ambitious. Locations range from rural Washington state to the D.C. area to the Middle East. Every time I thought I knew where the story was heading, O'Neal threw in a twist. In particular, the Mission Impossible action at a foreign embassy was a nail biter. I held my breath the whole time.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any more dramatic for this pair, the author throws a huge curve. Again, I don't want to spoil the book for readers. Let's just say that, along with Andi, we are taken into a world that few westerners get to see. Levi and his Special Ops buddies have a hell of job with this one. Andi, too, is pushed to her absolute limit physically and emotionally.

I always begin a book with optimism...I assume I'll enjoy the ride. Well, I liked this one way more than even I expected. It's an exciting blend of romance, action and suspense. I'm going to go back now and read the first one in the series!

I am really big on action thrillers and mysteries that feature detectives or spies, the CIA, etc. So a book featuring a former black-ops guy as the leading man? I’m sold.

So, Andi gets kidnapped and Levi gets called in to rescue her. And to make things worse, it’s an inside job. Andi doesn’t even know if she can trust Levi, and this just complicates things more.

This was more of a romantic suspense type book, which I liked anyway, but just a heads up if you’re more into action and less into romance. Another thing I really enjoyed were the different locations used in the book, it made it more exciting!

I absolutely adored Andi and Levi, both apart and their chemistry with each other.

This book was also well-written, it flowed very nicely. This is a part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. I do plan to read the other books in the series.

I also want to thank PJ Nunn and the author for providing me with a copy of this book for review. I give this book 4 stars!

I did not know what to expect when I started reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised. It is not often that Black Op tough guys actually have hearts of gold--or that spoiled little rich girls have backbones of steel! I really can't say any more wothout giving away the plot so I won't. This was actually number 2 in a 3 series book. Yes, it can be read as a stand alone but I have a feeling that I will be getting books 1 and 3!! Black Ops Chronicles: Dead Men Don't
