“Aggressively, the wolf pounced onto Anastasia’s bed and then crept forward, forcing her backwards until she hit the headboard.”

This was a YA paranormal romance, with werewolves!

Anastasia was an opinionated girl, and I did think she came across as rude at times. She was certainly stubborn, but really didn’t deserve the treatment she received at her new school and from her grandparents! There were some real mean girls in this book! And they also seemed to be bullying Frost!

“Her reputation precedes her,” Kate answered smugly. “This town never forgets.”

The storyline in this followed Anastasia at her new school, and also focused on the romance between Anastasia and Frost. Their romance did happen quite quickly, but to be honest Frost was my favourite character in the book, he actually had manners and was polite to people.

“You’ll never win,” Kate hissed, starting to circle Anastasia as if they were wild animals. “This is my school and my town. You don’t have a chance.”

The ending to this was good, but we were left with a bit of a cliff-hanger so I’m guessing there will be another book to follow this one.

Synopsis

Anastasia Lockhart gets sent to stay with her grandparents after yet another incident of getting into trouble. Labeled as a bad girl, she is frustrated with the fact that that is all she's seen as, not given a chance to forge a different path. As a result, she's cautiously optimistic about going to Cedar Falls, a small town in Ontario, Canada. Once she's arrived in Cedar Falls, she encounters Frost Stone, an incredibly good-looking outcast who seems as drawn to her as she is to him, despite her determination not to fall for the wrong guy again. Anastasia encounters her old friend Chloe Fairbanks and faces bullying from local queen bee, Kate McKinley, whose clique Chloe has joined. Once again, Anastasia finds herself being labeled the bad girl as Kate blackens her reputation, and things get more sinister when a series of animal attacks escalates public hysteria. Could the animal attacks be related to Frost, and can Anastasia find the strength to stand up for herself against bad gossip and bullying?

Review

Frostbitten has lots of atmosphere, with its cold winter setting and the eerie yet seductive beauty of the Canadian wilderness. Anastasia is a sympathetic heroine, due to her history of bad mistakes and her struggle to stand strong against mean-spirited gossip and bullying. Frost is both gorgeous and sweet, with a nice dose of alluring mystery. What's problematic with this book is that it seems to tread into too familiar territory in young adult paranormal romance, the girl falling for the bad boy who may or may not be hiding paranormal origins. I would have liked the characters besides Anastasia to be better developed. I felt as though I was merely seeing Frost through Anastasia's eyes and he never solidified into a standalone character in his own right.

The struggles Anastasia faces in her new high school were poignant, especially as terrible, hurtful lies are being told and she's put into the role of outcast, despite her hopes to escape her past similar situations. I would have liked to see more development of the relationship between Anastasia and her grandparents, especially since it's so pivotal to the storyline.

The action and paranormal elements are well done, and I liked the folklore foundation for the story, although it feels fairly thin at this point. I feel that with better development and more fortification of the world-building, it could definitely carry this potential series well into subsequent books.

Overall, Frostbitten is a good young adult paranormal novel. The feelings between Anastasia and Frost seemed genuine, and I liked them as a couple. I would have liked more character development all around, except for Anastasia, and a stronger story. But I think readers who enjoy young adult paranormal romance will like this book.

NOTE:I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Positives
Frostbitten is a well written book. What really makes Frostbitten a good book is Heather's writing. I can't stress enough on how much I liked it. It's a lovely book that has all the elements a paranormal book should have. Right from the beautiful and stubborn young girl to a gorgeous and loyal werewolf, from a caring BFF to a rich and jealous bitch (who makes Anastasia's life a living hell!) The mystery involved is also quite good.
I really liked Cedar Falls and I'd love to get answers about it's past in the next instalment.

Negatives
Even after liking this book I can't ignore 2 facts. First, that it was really hard to connect with the leads. I mean they are well-explained and all, but still they felt very far-off. And secondly, this book has some really odd similarities to Twilight: A girl whose life is hell, meets a gorgeous guy who takes comfort in solitude, and falls in love with him. She finds out about him being a shape-shifter and then accepts the truth in no time. They they stand together against the world. Overall it's totally like Twilight except for the fact that Frost is a werewolf and secondly he was unaware of his past.

Conclusion
I understand that as this is the first part, establishing the basics is very important and in this book it's been done quite neatly (well, except for the characters.) I guess that the next part is going to be better, so I'm looking forward to read it :)

OK let's face it. I have a horrible issue with judging a book by its cover. And yes, this cover drew me right in. Let's face it. I'm a huge paranormal fan and the cover with a beautiful white wolf and a woman wearing an elegant purple gown in a snow covered forest. Like I always think, the prettier or hotter the cover, the book has to be awesome, right? I really enjoyed reading this alongside my my teenage daughter.

However, I want to note that the author noted that Anastasia "had fallen victim to a negative self-fulfilling prophecy". This is not the case. From what I read, Anastasia was in fact labeled, "a bad girl" by the same teachers who failed to recognize Anastasia being bullied and ostracized for being a good student and "teachers pet", furthermore, thrusting her into the land of misfit kids to stave off loneliness. When one teacher labels a student, "bad" its a stigma that attaches to the child and nothing can be done to change the view of upcoming teachers. Further validated by Anastasia trying to turn her teachers view of her around to no avail. Therefore, the breaking point that lead to her grandparents intervention, was brought on by a stigma that educators have an unwillingness to bed much less have faith in a student to change his or her ways. Especially when brought on by external factors as well as external labels. Sorry about the rant, rant, ranting.

Due to Anastasia's poor choices and the fact that her mother become a mother at the tender age of 16, she is packed up and shipped to Cedar Falls to be raised in the small town her mother grew up to be straightened out by her grandparents. Upon arrival, . She also learns that her grandfathers job is in jeopardy. She catches sight of an alluring new guy who may or may not be related to her grandfather's nemesis. Oh, and he may or may not be a were-man. Only time will tell....

Leader of the pack... one thing that has been made abundantly clear is no matter where you go kids in clicks can be cruel. Also the town has an eerie feel. Like the town's folks are keeps outsiders out of the loop. It had me thinking about the episode of The X Files or Supernatural that had cult like townies. Yes, I know... strange correlation considering at this point considering its just the tip of the iceberg. When really we should be pondering:

**That dream... psych connection or premonition?
**Ugh... Jack and Jill... Oops I just vomited a little there.
**What's the deal with the queen b**ch? Oops my bad queen bee.
**Speaking of deal's...Why all the uncalled for hate directed at Frost? Is that ominous or what?

Such cruel intentions... rumor, rumor, rumor has it.... OMG! Nope, it's not the beautiful. It much more sinister and wrong than that. Leaving me wondering just what is it with this backwoods town? Common sense says, YES, you should investigate a rumor such as . However, when said rumor also has its own , the adults should have enough common sense to know there is no validity to at accusation. Therefore, giving the bullies more power to hurt their peers and destroy an reputation. Why am I so focused on the bullies because kids are just evil nowadays. As for Frost, some heart wrenching truths have been spilled but the cult like census is we must hate and not befriend Frost or become subjected to ostracism. Thank heavens Anastasia has more common sense than to think like that. I smell young love in the air. My additional pondering thoughts:

**Do I smell young love in the air? Could it be more? A psychic connection or kindred spirits?
**What will happen to the teacher?
**Will the bullies be found out and punished? Or will it be swept under the rug, in the name of the stupidity?
**Will Frost ?

Ahh, the remembered Romeo and Juliet; only now its Frost and Anastasia. Both forbidden lovers whose family are at odds with one another. A secret love blossoms with a refreshing innocents thus far. But Kate.... dang... what a raging lying b****. At one point I was reminded of a Sabbath school lesson about the rich man and the poor man. I can see the earthly translation for this tale as it correlates between the have and the have most. But, holy snot on crackers seriously STALKER much?? I agree Shakespeare had it so right when he said the lady protest too much. However, including Kate's lie and the none acceptance of Anastasia telling the truth about what happened still doesn't explain the animosity these people have against Frost. Again, my former ponders are still unanswered and even more raise such as:

**Does Frost shift?
**Why was the cougar really transferred?
**What the Hell's wrong with this town.
**Will Chloe tell the truth?
**What attack happened 17 years ago? And does it have to do with Frost or Anastasia?

So I have been up in arms about this town having something against Frost but damn they have out for Anastasia just as bad if not more. I have never read such a backward BS lately. It reminds me of that television commercial about the chick who believes the French model BS because it was on the internet. I'm so up in arms about this, I can't see the forest for all the trees. Ugh, then to make matters worse Anastasia gets and that b**** Kate gets . To add insult to injury her own darn grandfather

description

I haven't read a paranormal book like this since my Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse bender years ago. That being said ... there were similarities that were a little difficult to ignore.

Before I get to that, I do want to say that I enjoyed this book. I thought that while the characters didn't ring any bells for me, the plot was interesting and I enjoyed where the book went and how it got there. The story was fast moving and it mostly kept me entertained the entire time that I read it.

That being said, I didn't connect with these characters at all. Our heroine in this one, Anastasia, is seventeen years old. Anastasia didn't behave like a seventeen year old. Not in the least. I want to tell you about a few examples because they just really rubbed me the wrong way and didn't seem true to the age group Anastasia is in. There was one time she was talking about this chick working in the office at school who "hadn't been well-trained, if at all". What? Come on. A 17 year old isn't going to think that. Comment on her hair? Sure. Her outfit? Absolutely. Maybe even the rude way in which this chick was talking. I'll even take that. But commenting on her training (or lack thereof) was just weird. There was this other situation with a teacher ... Anastasia was saying how this young teacher was more interested in a paycheck and disregarding safety in her class. Again, it felt weird. Then she was talking about how she doesn't "put a label on relationships". Ugh. She's seventeen. The last one I'll bring up is how she thought that other kids in her class were "dehumanizing" the male lead, Frost. Dehumanizing? I think that all of this would have been fine if there was a reason behind Anastasia acting older than her age or at least some kind of acknowledgement of this kind of behavior from a teenager. I didn't find any of that within these pages. I didn't see any reason why Anastasia would be acting like a grumpy 30-something all the time.

And here we are at the Twilight reference I mentioned earlier. Let's just say that before I sat down to write this review, I actually checked what other people thought about this book. I never do that but I wanted to see if I was just completely off base with seeing similarities between these two and unfortunately, I wasn't alone and I wasn't off base. It wasn't a word for word type thing, obviously, but there were just scenes where it was VERY close to Twilight. I think that the most obvious scene was when Anastasia learned the truth about Frost. Anastasia put it together on her own by listing off the qualities that Frost has and then being a-okay with this and just scampering along behind him like she was riding a unicorn off into the sunset. She didn't have any qualms about being around him and it (again) didn't feel like a 17 year old or in any way how anyone would respond to this kind of thing. Not that this has ever happened but I'm pretty sure that 99% of the population would have at least paused for a moment to think about what being a werewolf meant.

For me, the characters make or break the story. The story could be great but if the characters just aren't cutting it, it can really ruin the entire experience for me. It was an okay book. Like I said, it kept me entertained until the last page. I just wish that Anastasia had been more believable so that I could have connected with her in some way.

It's ok.

After getting into trouble in Toronto, Ontario seventeen year old Anastasia is sent to live with her grandparents in the small town of Cedar Falls, a place where she spent the summers when she was younger. It's a fresh start, just what she needs and of course there's a unbelievably good looking boy so what could possibly go wrong.
This is the first book I've read by this author and yes while I'm aware that the target audience is much younger than me I do read a lot of young fiction, one of my favourite series being 'Girls Wearing Black' by Spencer Baum.
I have to say I struggled with this book, especially at first, everything seemed off, people's reactions and looks and comments, it's hard to describe but it just didn't seem right. All I could think at first was that a spell had been put over the town making everyone act weird, obviously that's not the case but the main reason I continued reading was to find out what on earth was going on apart from the obvious. The behaviour Anastasia receives at school is so OTT in places I just couldn't make sense of it, now this is obviously not the book for me I found it very slow going in places and like I said the people are all weird, talk about jumping to conclusions it could be a town sport. When I'd finished the book all I could think was 'ok' so like I said it's not the book for me and I'm obviously not the target audience maybe younger readers would relate more and get more out of the story.

** A big thanks to YA Buddy's Corner and the author for giving me a copy to read and review**

Anastasia stood tall and ready to fight. However, she couldn't stop herself from gulping nervously as she realized that while all nightmares come to an end, sometimes that end is merely the beginning...

I really enjoyed this book. I really enjoy fantasy books that have mythical creatures in such as werewolves. So lucky for me there was plenty of weird and wonderful in this novel. After reading the final page I have come to the conclusion that I think it is part of a series rather than a standalone. However the author didn't let that take away any of the magic from the book. The only thing that I found hard to believe was the fact that Frost always spoke of his love for Anastasia and he told her that he loved her more than once but on these occasions she never told him that she loved him back even though it was obvious. I found this to be a little harsh towards Frost.

However I really enjoyed the characters that she built and the world that she built them in. My favourite characters are Frost and Anastasia without a doubt.

Thanks again for giving me a copy of this book to read and review as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Frostbitten is a fun, new, paranormal, young adult/teen read.

Anastasia Lockhart has been shipped off to her grandparents after being deemed a problem teen. Now she has a new shot at making a good impression in a town she hasn’t seen in years. But when the mysterious Frost comes into the picture, Anastasia’s life will forever be changed.

This is a coming-of-age story. Anastasia struggles with prejudices, bullies, falling in love, friendship, and relationships with adults/family.

I enjoyed this story and found it to be a great start to what could be a marvellous series. I didn’t feel Anastasia’s and Frost’s building relationship and had some trouble with Anastasia’s emotional internal dialogue. Many of the characters have strange behaviour that never quite worked or was never explained. There are a few open-ended plot issues that I hope will be resolved in a continuation of this story.

Frostbitten was a fascinating summer romance read.

Nicely written novel by Heather. (I don't give spoilers, sorry: just know it is worth adding to your reading and you will enjoy it).. Recommended for Teen/YA readers 14 yrs and up as well as anyone else who enjoys a romance novel with Werewolves. Nice pace throughout, likable characters, vivid descriptions that pull the reader in; a very good story-line and plot that will keep you reading non-stop. The novel contains all the elements we love for a good summer read: blossoming teen romance, conflict, some drama, twists in the plot, and a handsome hero!! I look forward to reading the next book in this series!

Anastasia wasn't an awful character, but I can't say I liked her. She was rude most of the time, and while I did feel sorry for her at points, it wasn't enough to win me round.

I found the pacing in this to be a bit slow, and at points the story really dragged for me. There was a few parts that were okay though, so it wasn't too bad.

Overall, An okay paranormal read.

“In those fleeting moments, everything really had changed, and she knew that none of them would ever be the same again. Yet, for all its tragedy, this battle between man and beast had given Anastasia a new appreciation for her life and the people who were still in it."

Paranormal romance has always been my guilty pleasure, so when I got the opportunity to read and review this novel about a misunderstood teenage girl and a handsome mysterious boy, how could have I let it go. The story as told by Anastasia gives us a first-hand account of her troubles and drew me in instantly. It is always hard to be a teenager but in a complete new place where you know nobody, being treated like an outsider, can be harder still. I really felt for Anastasia and her struggles in her new school. Those were some mean girls and their characterisation was to the point. But, I liked Anastasia’s resilience and the fact that she refused to be the damsel in distress. She fought her own battles and kudos to author for portraying her like that.

“Don’t ever allow anyone to define who you are – make that decision for yourself.”

Frost, on the other hand was sweet and equally misunderstood but I liked his thoughtfulness. Both of them made a delightful couple. I liked the ease and clarity in which the author has written this book. The one-dimension aspects of the events, even though arguable, worked rather well with the story. I am glad that finally we have a novel, which revolve solely on the were-wolves. The people of the town believed in legends, myths and were quick to judge but small town setting on the edge of wilderness sets the perfect backdrop for paranormal activities and it kept me absorbed and invested.

“No matter how impossible the odds, how tough the hardships, or how painful the tragedy, we weren’t broken or torn apart, and in the end, I finally found my happiness.”

In terms of originality though, this novel somewhat fails. There are far too many novels with somewhat similar premise and storyline and having read my way through quite a few of them, I could not shake the feeling of Déjà vu. Also, Cedar falls/ Mystic falls (Vampire Diaries) doesn’t really help. Anastasia reaction, when she came to know about Frost’s reality was somewhat unreal. She was not afraid, she was not even intrigued, and she accepted the truth far too easily. Although, I did not mind the story being told through Anastasi’s POV, still it would have been nice to read Frost POV in some situations like when he is finally reunites with his father. It would have also been great if some more back-story were provided about the werewolves of Cedar falls. Although seeing that this may only be the first book in a series, it does not hurt to expect some fascinating and legendary tale in the future.

“While all nightmares come to an end, sometimes that end is merely the beginning.”

Negative things apart, I cannot say I did not enjoy this book. It has been a while that I read any paranormal romance and with this book all, my reason for loving them has been revived. I really liked the cliff-hanger at the end and it surely left me wanting for more. Looking forward!
Bottom line, “Frostbitten” makes for a really pleasant and charming paranormal YA read.

Thank you! Author, Heather Beck for providing me a review copy!

Pretty good YA paranormal romance about a pretty girl who has made bad choices in her past and is sent away to live in a small woodsy town with her grandparents. Once there she is judged and bullied based on her looks and namesake and many secrets unknown to her. The premise is good but could have been done a bit smoother. It’s all a bunch of misunderstandings and no one believing Anastasia for most of the book which gets a bit tedious after a while. The instalove romance between her and Frost is just that -instalove, but I liked it. I think Anastasia could have been a bit quicker on the uptake on so many things having to do with Frost, the town, her family and the attacks. She would have been more likable and not seem so whiny. Overall I did enjoy the story. Once it got going I was invested and now I want to read the next book so know what happens after that cliffhanger ending.
The audiobook itself was done well. The characters voices and intonation were distinct and believable. I think the narrator did a good job with it.

I was provided with a copy of this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher in exchange for an unbiased review. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Verdict: If you can get into it, you won’t want to put it down.
Enjoyment: 3 Lots of brilliant sections. Uneven pace.
Writing Style: 3 Exposition, passive voice etc.
Plot: 4 Excellent twists, but could shuffle things around to improve pace and flow.
World & Concepts: 5 Clear, well-defined.
Characters: 5 A good mix, well-defined, relatable.
Finish: 5 Beautiful cover. No typos.
Strengths: Excellent climax.
Weakness: Writing style tells more than shows.

Anastasia is a good mix of relatable, strong, and likeable, with a slight rude streak but mostly a kind heart. Frost fulfils the typical mysterious, angry, protective love interest. They’re drawn to each other, but their love is forbidden... I think we both know what book this resembles.

It was the writing style that really got to me. Lots of exposition, and yet lots of missing details. So much of it could be improved just by showing rather than telling.

For example, the book starts by explaining why Anastasia's life is out of hand and she must live with her grandparents. It would have been so easy to start the book with Anastasia arrested for reckless behaviour, followed by an argument with her mother that results in sending her away. Readers would then get to see the Anastasia from beforehand, as well as actually meet the mother we hear so much about. Instead, we’re told it happened, and it’s just not the same.

I thought this a few times throughout the book, which is why I ended up reading it very s-l-o-w-l-y. I was enjoying it, yet I kept putting it down.

But I did keep picking it back up. What exactly was Frost up to? Why does Kate dislike him so much? How can Anastasia stop the villagers? It took me a while to get through the whole book, yet I couldn’t put it aside forever. I had to know what was going on.

Around three quarters of the way through, Anastasia and Frost run away together, and the book really kicks off. Countless twists, actions scenes, and emotionally fuelled revelations. The story grabbed me in its clutches where it previously had not.

It’s quite clear that this is book one of a series. There’s a slight hook at the end, but don’t worry, no cliff hanger. I’m not sure if I’ll read book 2, but book 1 was an enjoyable read overall.

I absolutely loved this book. I received a free e-copy through a read-to-review program on Goodreads. It stood on its own and didn't have to rely on 'teenage angst and the world will end if they don't stay together kind of nonsense'. Anastasia is a normal kid making good grades and keeping steady friends until that one day in high school that all of us "good kids" remember vividly. The day we no longer have friends just because we are a good student....

For being studious is just not enough in high school. You have to act, live, take, give, or just plain be more. Your old friends tend to disappear and one day you wake to find yourself wandering the hallways alone. Popularity is such a hard road to travel, so why not take the easy road with the other outcasts? Well, that's what Anastasia does and she soon finds herself in unknown territory. Skipping classes, unfinished homework, fights with her mother, and finally a train ride to her grandparents house.

At this point, Anastasia is consumed by her hormones, an unwilling passenger on a roller coaster of emotions. With everyone saying "her mom doesn't want her" or "why couldn't she have just tried a little harder", she is left wondering whether her grandparents will be able to deal with all her issues and love her at the same time. Anastasia is determined that she's gonna prove everyone wrong and be successful this time around.

She can't wait to see her old friend Chloe again. It will be nice to actually know someone at her new school! As soon as Anastasia enters the lunchroom on her first day, all her hopes are dashed! It's not just gonna be the two best friends anymore. Apparently Chloe has not only become popular, but she is best buds with the one girl at the school that can't stand Anastasia for reasons unknown.

Anastasia can barely keep track of all she's juggling when she runs into Frost. He is unlike any boy/man Anastasia has ever encountered. It is truly love at first sight for her. So, what happens when Frost turns out to be more than he seemed? Will Anastasia run, or will her love for him weather the storm and remain until it clears?! I loved this book and am hoping that this will be just the first in an amazing series!

**I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**

First off thank you to the author for the chance to read this I was very pleasantly surprised with this book, and how much I actually enjoyed it. It is a lovely story that is full werewolves, romance, high school, judgement and family, pretty much has everything that a perfect YA book should have.

I instantly liked Anastasia, she's the perfect character and might I add very true to a real teen in my opinion, having had trouble with home and school her mum ships her off to go live with her grandparents, you can tell right away that things aren't going to be easy for Anastasia in her new school when she gets on the wrong side of three horrible teens who start a horrible high school rumour that threatens her time at her new school.

And then there's frost, ahh frost with his charm, loveliness and his mystery, no one seems to like the idea of Anastasia hanging around with frost and everyone warns her to steer clear of him. But really this is paranormal YA and that is never going to happen.

And holy heck that ending damn I'm so looking forward to another book. Omg I so rambled throughout this but anyway to sum up this was a fantastic start to what I predict an amazing series one you won't be disappointed with I know I loved it and can't wait for more of Anastasia and frost's story. One to definitely sink your teeth into

(Thank you Heather Beck for the opportunity to read Frostbitten for an honest review.)

Frostbitten by Heather Beck was a good read that was written well. It had it’s good moments (like anything with Frost, my favorite character of the book), and it had it’s not so good moments like scenes with Kate and at times Anastasia when she seemed not so nice. But what really held this book together for me was the suspense and action mixed in with the romance.

Frostbitten is about a girl named Anastasia who moves to Cedar Falls to live with her grandparents. It is here where she meets the mysterious Frost. They quickly build a relationship and fall in love. The novel revolves around the search for the Cedar Falls werewolf, dealing with werewolf hunters, and of course the relationship between Anastasia and Frost.

What I really liked about this novel was Frost. He was a great hero who was caring and protective of Anastasia. I also liked all the twist and turns in the plot, the action, and even the slight cliff-hanger in the end.

Overall, this was a good book and I recommend it if you’re looking for a nice young adult paranormal novel.

I was given this story for an honest review (to be fair I did request it). The story was good, you can tell from the cover what the story will be but I couldn't connect with the characters or any of the plot. And let me tell you I like me a good paranormal romance just like any other.

As I was reading it, I was annoyed at how support characters were quick to accuse and believe anything bad about the main girl. I don't think that small towns could be that harsh to the new comer. The high school girl were too mean-ish with no provocation and even the the main girls granddad acted the same. The main characters "bad" girl feelings or how she told the reader how people saw her felt forced.

The plot dragged too. I guessed what the book was about from the cover but it wasn't until close to the end that you understand the point of the book. Sure there were hints and all, but it was slow and in passing to me.

I'm grateful the author gifted this book to me and not at all her fault I couldn't connect with the character or the story, except to want to finish it as quickly as possible.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review through Lovers of Paranormal.

Frostbitten had potential. It had the opportunity to be different. That opportunity was not taken.

The characters were cliched, especially Frost. He is the prototypical misunderstood outcast boy who notices the pretty girl and falls in love but is hiding a horrible secret that may risk everything that he holds dear. Anastasia is a helpless heroine, so much so that I created a new bookshelf, just for her. She falls into petty high school drama and pushes herself away from the people that care about her. She is whiny and self serving.

Overall, I felt like I had read this book before. It felt like a Twilight rewrite. It could have been better but there was no real tension or drama in the book. Nothing felt serious.

Excellent YA novel. Caught my attention from the very beginning and the characters were well developed as well as the story plot. The ending left me hanging which is why I gave it four stars. It would have been nice to see what happened to the characters but maybe there will be a second book that answers the lingering plot.

This book was really good! I was able to relate to the main character Anastasia. This was a fresh new take on werewolves for me. I can't wait to see if there is going to be a second book!

I wasn't expecting much from this as it was free, but it was really good! Anastasia was a bit rude at times, but everyone was so mean to her! the other girls at school, her teacher, and her own grandparents! awful! Frost would be such a cool name for a baby. If I have any more accidents I might use that.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Wonderful Stars!

I must admit that while I do definitely enjoy reading young adult books, I am sometimes hesitant to read paranormal books within the genre. It’s not that I haven’t read these types of books, or that I haven’t immensely enjoyed these books, it’s just that I naturally don’t lean towards them.

After reading Frostbitten by Heather Beck, I’m thinking I should change that inclination.

Frostbitten is a paranormal young adult novel that focuses in on Anastasia Lockhart as she goes to live with her grandparents in the quaint little town of Cedar Falls. But soon Anastasia finds that not everything is as quaint as it appears in this sleepy little town. There are some dark mysteries running rampant through this town, and Anastasia soon finds herself immersed in them.

Wonderfully balanced with the mystery surrounding the town of Cedar Falls is the development of Anastasia’s relationship with a mysterious boy named Frost. These two have an instant bond and connection, and their bonds only grow throughout this story. Frostbitten follows Anastasia as she begins to fall into all of her feelings for Frost, while trying to discover the answers to the many questions surrounding the supernatural events taking place in Cedar Falls.

Heather Beck does a phenomenal job of crafting a story that just flows from the page. Her writing is beautiful, and the level of description you read in this book will have you picturing every single glorious detail in your head.

The mythology that comes into this story in such a remarkable way that is very easy to understand, and it blends wonderfully with every other aspect of the book. It also adds a seriously engaging and exciting factor to this book that sets the story itself apart from other YA books.

Frost is kind of an enigma that you continue to try to figure out throughout. While reading you slowly chip away at his hard exterior find out who he truly is. His character was just magnificent to read, and with each new piece of the puzzle that I discovered about him, I fell more in love with his character. He’s also terribly sweet, which just melted my heart. Anastasia is a very strong female character, which I immediately grasped and adored. She is thrown a lot of wrenches in a lot of ways, but through it all she keeps standing up and pushing through. Even when you expect her to give in, she doesn’t. She’s extremely resilient, and that was something that was truly fresh to read.

This book is paced very well, and the events make it a true page turner. The events add flames to the fire that is this book, and will keep you engaged from beginning to end. That excitement also just makes it fun to read. The love story of Frost and Anastasia is also fantastic, and it has a serious build over the book. It feels very natural from beginning to end, and flows very well over the page. It also balanced extremely well with the other events taking place in the book. You could focus in on it, but also enjoy all the other aspects of the book that in turn affected their love story. It just worked.

I loved that this was a YA book. I love YA books. The young characters created in this book are all extremely authentic in the emotions and feelings they have. Even the actions they take are wholly real. Heather Beck does a wonderful job of capturing these characters and making them come alive on the page.

The level of suspense just builds and builds in this book. I was constantly wondering where in the world the story would go, and what would happen next, which made this book all the more engaging. That suspense builds in so many ways that you will have to know how this all works out. (It also does a fabulous job of setting up future stories….)

I also just loved getting to read the different and complicated relationships in this book. You have Frost and Anastasia, Anastasia and her grandparents, and even Anastasia and her classmates. These dynamic relationships add more to this story, and add an easily relatable factor to what you’re reading.

Frostbitten was a truly fantastic book to read. It had so many aspects that I truly enjoy and thrive on when I read. It was engaging as hell. It had well and thoughtfully developed characters with some spunk. It had a storyline that was fresh to read, and that just continued to get better as I read. It also had that something extra that just made it a truly enjoyable book.

While I may not be the most well versed in books with paranormal and supernatural elements, I have to say that I think this one hit it out the park in that respect.

So I hope you’ll all take a minute to check out the book and its author. Give it chance, just like I did. I think you’ll be extremely happy you did. I know I am.

Take that leap of faith in reading. You’d do well to remember that.

I was contacted a few weeks back about a new series, one I had not heard of at the time, and provided a copy for an honest review. Frostbitten by Heather Beck is this book. I was able to dive right into it and really enjoyed it.
The story of Frostbitten is one of great beauty hiding dark secrets. Our main character, Anastasia Lockhart, is a 17 year old who has been sent to live with her grandparents in a small town of Cedar Falls where her mother grew up and has never returned to. Not much has changed over the years accept she meets a mysterious, and of course handsome boy named Frost. She’s warned away from him by everyone including her family but she can’t deny the attraction and the way she feels around him. She is trying to start over and not be the disorderly girl who was getting into trouble and spiraling downward. That alone sounded like good meat for a story, boy and girl told to stay away, but Frost also has a secret and one that is far past all of her wildest imaginations. She finds herself in the middle of a supernatural legend and one that has been part of the towns’ history for years.
Let me first say the cover itself drew me in. A beautiful girl in a pretty flowy dress in a snow covered forest with a beautiful white wolf. Keep in mind I’m in South Georgia and it’s in the high 90’s to the low 100’s here this time of year before humidity and I haven’t seen snow in about 18 years. I live vicariously through my characters that get to experience not just the story and feels but cooler climates. Plus I love wolves, so majestic, graceful, and simply beautiful; so points for that. It is one that gives you enough hints and ideas about the story to be useful but not give anything away.
I was pretty quick to get into the story and become invested in the characters. Anastasia is a girl who is deal with some issues and trying to fit in and start over but is having trouble letting go and it is made harder by her peers. It's easy to see the conundrum she's in and you want to know what's happening to her during it. Frost, yes his name is a bit different but I dig it and after I learned how he got his name, yes there's a reason other than being memorable, it made it even better. He is both shy and confident and he has his own secrets he's dealing with but also trying to make the most of what he’s been dealt.
One thing with many books in this genre that seems to put some people off is the romance or connection between characters coming too quickly and seeming unfounded or rushed. While Anastasia and Frost have a connection it was built up more solidly than many I see. Who isn't going to be interested in a handsome boy who she's told to stay away from? They meet quickly and have a connection but builds easily from there at a pace I found enjoyable. There are more relationships in the series as well with family, friends, and members of the small town. There is a small town vibe where everyone knows everything about you and your family and pretty much have their mind made up about you before they meet you. Been there, done that, so it rang true. Oh and I have to mention Chloe, a childhood friend, who picks up like old times. People change over time and sometimes we lose our friendships but sometimes, those ones we forge live on forever even through time and distance and Chloe could easily be one of my close friends.
Well if it hasn’t been clear I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait to read the next one. Yes more waiting, but it leaves you at a point where there is clearly more story to tell and I can’t wait.

Frostbitten was about a troubled teenager who lived in Toronto that was sent to Cedar Falls by her single mother, she was sent to live with her grandparents who had regarded her with the same contempt as they had with her mother when she left the town. Anastacia was an angry, impulsive teen who reacted without thinking making being around her sometimes hurtful.

As soon as she moved in with her grandparents, her grandfather seemed to take an instant dislike to her and decided to judge and cajole her and regardless of what she said or did nothing was good enough, he seemed to judge her on behalf of her mothers mistakes and took no qualms in telling her continually what a disappointment she was to her mother and her grandparents, Anastasia like any troubled teenager needs love and support not hate and to be instant judged not trusted or not listened to. He made me really want to shake some sense into him, he was judging his granddaughter so harshly it didn't seem fair and it was hurtful.

Her grandmother was like how she remembered her loving, supporting and fair, when Anastasia did wrong her grandmother did tell her quite clearly what she thought about it but she also understood that she is a teenager and is bound to make mistakes on her journey to adulthood.

Anastasia was no saint, not by a long shot, when she moved in with her grandparents she was so initially rude I immediately took a dislike to her, after all they didn't have to take her in but they did and they kept her fed and looked after. The hostility in the house was obviously uncomfortable for everyone especially her grandmother but she tried to ease this by trying to please her grandfather to no avail. When she started the high school it seemed like anyone else's bad first day but then it continued to get worse as she stayed there longer, rumours being spread, nasty attacks in the hallways and getting her into trouble when she was acting in self defence but no one believed her side of the story when she went to tell it nor did they even bother to listen they'd just labelled her as trouble and that was that. Something about the mysterious boy drew her in, his deep blue eyes or maybe his secretive standoffish nature but she wanted to know more. Surprisingly when she did find out his secret she didn't act rude or disgruntled she just accepted him for who he was and that made her more endearing. Her character got better when Frost and her finally got together, you got to see her more sensitive caring and loyal side and that made you almost forget her rudeness.

Frost was a shady character who had a body to die for, his eyes gleamed deep blue and held a secret, you were left guessing what that secret was for so long but when finally revealed you can understand why. He was so kind and caring towards Anastasia and protective, some of his lines were cheesy but he seemed to have such a naive sense about himself and it's cute.

Overall I liked this book a lot. The storyline was quite strong although a little draggy at the beginning and made it hard to get stuck into but half way through the pace, the action, love picked up and then you didn't want to stop reading. Sometimes the scenes didn't flow well but it didn't detract from the book and the cliffhanger at the end makes me want to read the next one, but I honestly hope there will be more.

I'm almost always a fan of supernatural lore, and I definitely love it in my fiction. When it comes to a good story with a paranormal twist, Frostbitten doesn't disappoint. It has action, romance, suspense, and a pacing that allows readers to power through the novel in a couple of sittings. I enjoyed the reading experience.

Werewolves aren't exactly new to paranormal fiction. They've been done before in novels and they will likely be done again. But Beck had slightly different twists on the werewolves that still made the read fresh and enjoyable, without completely changing everything originally included in popular lore. Although - being a fangirl of myths and lore - it would've been nice to learn a bit more about the back story, I definitely respected the paced delivery of information. Whenever giving a history, there's a fine line between enriching the story and dulling it, and I thought Beck gave all the necessary information without losing the interest of the reader.

Anastasia is an interesting character. It's quite easy to root for her and be on her side, because readers can relate to how increasingly infuriating it is that hardly anyone seems to listen to her. Although I enjoyed her as a character, I never really saw too much of the whole "bad girl" image she was supposed to have grown. On one hand, that's sort of the point, but on the other, it felt like she was telling me "yep, I got into a lot of trouble and was bad" when I never actually saw it. Any trouble she found herself in seemed pretty ridiculous and completely out of her control.

Frost was absolutely compelling. (The name seems so obvious, yet I love it). He had layers to him. Although he could be dangerous when he lost himself, I loved how shy and unsure of himself he was at points. It wasn't the kind of whiny insecurities that some teen characters seem to have, but a very realistic attitude that would pop up in between humor, intensity, and confidence. He had so much going for him, and I enjoyed reading more about this character. (And when have I refused a swoony love interest?)

Almost as much as I adored Frost as a character, I liked the relationship between him and Anastasia. Their attraction happened rather quickly, but I didn't mind. (It seems that a lot of reviews shout "insta-love" way too quickly. It's realistic that sometimes, people feel a connection and really hit it off. But that's for another day.) I just wish I saw more of a progression in their relationship. It felt a little static. Still, I absolutely loved what I did see, and I thought they worked so well together.

Frostbitten is an excellent start to a series, and I'm eager to read more. There were a lot of things I enjoyed about the book (besides Frost) and absolutely loved the tone and resulting mood. If you're a fan of paranormal, romance, good writing, action, and/or swoony boys, it's definitely worth a look.

I got a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review

It's been two months since I read this book and I'm still conflicted about it.I don't know if I should appreciate it was the effort made by the author, or to disparage the immaturity of the characters.I think the book largely suffers from the first-book-in-the-series syndrome. Hopefully the upcoming books in the series will be better.

When Anastasia Lockhart starts getting into trouble at school, her mother ships her off to Cedar Falls to live with her grandparents. The small picturesque town is pretty much the same as it was when she visited four years ago, with the exception of a strange, but good looking guy, Frost. Anastasia soon realizes that Frost is somewhat of a recluse and the students at the school avoid him like the plague. The town too warns their children off Frost and his family. All this just intrigues Anastasia and she is curious to know more about Frost.

The majority of this book was very high-school-ish. A lot of high-school drama and bitching going around. Some of the students were so bitchy; I was thanking the stars that I wasn’t studying there. People claiming to be friends were backstabbing each other, and then they were spreading vile rumours just out of spite. So basically a high-school worth a T.V. serial was portrayed in the book.

Another thing that did not work for me was that I just couldn’t connect with the characters. They were so immature and sometimes I thought Anastasia was just plain stupid. When she finds out Frost, by then her boyfriend is a werewolf, she decides to elope with him. Who does that? Usually when you find out the person you’re dating is a monster, you run away from them or at the very least are wary of them. You don’t elope with them!! And after Anastasia and Frost elope, she is worried he is not being his true self, because he isn’t hunting and eating raw meat! Seriously? Who the hell says that? And to top it off, she is nervous Frost is not being a true werewolf! Oh the horror!!

I did enjoy the last bit of the novel though. When the townspeople are looking for a rogue werewolf killing people, things get a bit more interesting. The book gets fast-paced and there is more action then and it’s actually enjoyable. We also find out more about Frost’s past and there is also a hint of something supernatural going on with Anastasia.

Though the book majorly lacked to connect with me or impress me in some places, I did enjoy it in other places, enough to read the next book in the series, if the author decides to write it. I like the writing style, no complaints with the grammar or the way the book was written, but I think the characters needed a little more depth.

Gosh, I didn’t want to put this book down. It was a bit slow at the beginning but that was okay. Once Anastasia started school, things got interesting and I was loving it. :)

Characters:
Anastasia→ I love this character. I’m glad she wasn’t that much of a damsel in distress!

Frost→ I like this guy. He had that mysterious thing goin’ on, yet he acted shy! He was different from some of the YA boyfriends I have and I like him. :) Something new and fresh.

Kate→ Kate.is.a.”beach”.

Marissa→ She’s a great friend but she has got to stop being so insecure. She has a low self-esteem and lets Kate walk all over her. Poor, girl. She’s too sweet to let people walk all over her.

Mr. Lockhart aka Grandpa→ Grandpa, Grandpa, Grandpa, *smh* He is so protective like a father. It’s so realistic. He will do whatever it takes to protect his family. <3

I love the relationship between Anastasia’s grandparents. They are so different from one another and make such a cute couple!

Heather Beck did a great job writing this novel! Its as simple as that. She always left me in suspense throughout the entire book, including the ending. There are many questions left to be answered and I really hope she writes sequel.

I wish their were more romantic scenes, but I also like how the book got straight to the point and didn’t have unneccessary scenes.

Heather Beck had me craving for more of Cedar Falls. And not just more of the romance between Anatasia and Frost (I love their names, by the way), but about all the characters and the town. It was so unique and different. I could picture all the scenes perfectly. I love how it had its typical high school cliques and cliches…there are other stuff I can’t share but woo, yes, this was a good book. It played with my emotions. Gosh, I was getting so mad at Kate and I love how Anatasia wasn’t so stupid throughtout the book like some main female characters. She only made one stupid mistake that had me shaking my head. But other than that, she was a tough cookie and I like that about her.

Overall, I’ll give this book five stars. And I will be anxiously waiting for the next installment; *clears throat* get to writing Ms. Beck ;)

Lesson Learned? Pain is only temporary; Friendship and love can go a long way

I love anything to do with werewolves and the paranormal. Not sure what attracts me to read them but once I find myself engaged within the story it is hard for me to put down.

With Frostbitten the story line was good. You have Anastasia who is a trouble teenager that lives with her mom. Her mother decides that it may be best to stay with her grandparents for a while and to see if that will straighten her up but she gets more than she bargains for.

Of course Anastasia isn't too thrilled about it all but she knows that with a new town she can make a good impression or at least she hopes to.

But when does that ever work out for anyone. This is a coming of age story and Anastasia deals with bullying, first love and coming to know who she is as a person along with the unexpected paranormal.

The characters weren't very complete to me. Kate who believes that the town is hers is jealous of Anastasia and I didn't understand why. Anastasia wasn't completely described to me so I didn't know if the hatred was for looks or just because it was a new girl in town.

Anastasia and her relationship with Frost who seems like a decent guy didn't click with me. It seemed I guess the word I would use is rushed. Now they didn't jump each others bones but it was like that didn't really get to know one another before they started dating. Yes I know the whole crush scene happens but it didn't click.

I think the author could have used more of a character build up so we really got to know the characters. And make the plot more than open ended. I felt Anastasia's behavior toward certain things such as how Frost acted didn't seem real enough. I think if my boyfriend wasn't talkative I would make him talk. Not sit there and wonder if he thought I was pretty or whatever.

I do wonder if this book will continue on as a series maybe? I felt that the way some of the characters acted such as Julia which when you read you will find out who that is, was mysterious. The whole scene within the nursing home something felt off there but it was never elaborated on. It is really hard to describe in words how the book seemed off in spots, and I am sitting here racking my brain on how to put it in words. Maybe it will come to me at a later time.

Overall good story. Just needs more character building, the way people act or comment needs to be straighten out so it seems real, and to try not to add more mysterious things to the story line unless you will be building up on it to give answer or to put out another book. Which I do hope that happens so maybe then some questions or why did this happen or why was this said or acted out is answered especially for me.

I must say I loved this book!

Anastasia Lockheart is sent to Cedar Falls by her mother after one trouble leads to another. There, she meets the hot and mysterious Frost, who seems to keep secrets far beyond imagination. And Cedar Falls doesn't seem to be the sleepy town she thinks it is...

I liked the story a lot. I must say, though, that there were the usual themes a YA novel uses, but they didn't ruin the charm of this novel at all. I liked how the author pointed out the cliches of high school and how well-developed each character was, shaping the story into something incredible. Most of all, the romance was something to look forward to! It was neither too fast nor too slow to develop, which seems to be the problem in some YA novels. And even though it's forbidden in the beginning, they somehow found a way around it without hurting anyone much.
The atmosphere and setting of the whole story was written just right to suit the story and the way the characters interacted seemed so realistic that it was easy to lose yourself in the story and imagine you're in their shoes actually witnessing the events.

The characters are also something! I love Anastasia's decision-making skills and how she tries to be a better person than her old one. She grew up a lot throughout the whole novel. Her stubbornness and courage can be overwhelming, and I can't help but hold my breath as these things about her create a suspense.

Then there's the hot and sizzling Frost. I love how Frost isn't the typical jerk in most YA novels, despite hiding something deep and dark inside him. The way he was portrayed was very human-like. He's gentle, sweet, caring, and flawed. Even though he can look perfect on the outside, he could still appear flawed on the inside, which was what made him very realistic.

The other characters were also interesting. They all added to the suspense and numerous twists that could be found throughout the novel. What I loved most about this is that the twists never end and would always leave you wanting for more answers. This novel could put you on the edge until the very end. Even the ending was a cliffhanger, which made me wanting for more. Therefore, I would give this five stars. This is a truly amazing novel!

I received a copy of this book in return for a honest review.
First lets talk about the cover of the book.
I really love the background of the cover. The forest on the cover gives it a mysterious look.
The girl on the cover looks stunning and her dress is gorgeous. Although most people don't like faces on cover, I didn't found it disturbing.
There are two things I did not liked about the cover.
First is the wolf. Don't get me wrong I really like wolves, but if you google wolf this wolf is one of the very first pictures you will see. Although the cover looks pretty.

The story

This story is about a girl named Anastacia. Anastacia is a troubled girl and because of that send to her grandparents. There she will cope with more problems.
I thaught it was nice that the supernatural stuff happens later in the book. First you get to know Anastacia and goes with her threw some problems a normal high school girl will have to deal with. I think this is done marvelous, because you will get to know Anastacia and what for an inpact the situations have on her and her grandparents. Early in the beginning a boy named Frost comes in the picture. My opinion is that this happend very fast. I also thaught that there relation ship happend very fast. After one meeting he already knows that she is not like other girls. I liked Frost although I had the feeling that we did not really got to know him. We sure did get to know his past, but I missed something about him.
I liked Anastacia however she had some dumb actions.
In the story there were some predictable parts, but not really bothering. Unfortunatelly that I did not read this in the winter. The story takes place in Cedar Falls, a nice quiet place in the woods covered with snow. It was not a really heavy story to read, so I recommend to read this after reading a heavy, difficult or long book.
However An enjoyable book. A pleasant light read for in the winter or summer(when you need to cool of).
I am hoping for a sequel, cause the book ended with some unsolved questions.
