Grace for Drowning

Rate this book
From the New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal best-selling author of The Alpha Group comes a new romance about the devastating power of guilt and two people’s struggle to overcome their pasts.

Hope is a dangerous thing. I know that more than most. Everything good I've ever had has been stolen from me — my friends, my fiancé, my innocence, some would say even my sanity. All I have left is the cage. Fighting is the only thing that eases the ache inside me even a little. It’s the only thing that keeps the bottle at bay.

I was content to ride out my life alone. I was done dreaming that things could be better. But then I met Grace, and from that moment, all I could do was dream.

She's battling those same demons, only she's losing. I don’t want to care, but something about her calls to me. That pain in her eyes is so sharp, so familiar. I know it’s only a matter of time before it pulls her below the surface.

I can help her, and maybe, just maybe, she can help me too. For the first time in what feels like forever, I've got hope, and that scares the hell out of me.

This book is told from dual perspectives, so both Grace and Logan get their say. It is a full length (300 page) novel with no cliffhanger. There is likely to be a sequel, but the story can be enjoyed alone.

Not suitable for younger readers. This is an intense story that deals with issues of alcoholism and military PTSD, and it contains adult content.

This was one heck of a deep and emotional ride, something I was not expecting going into this book. I thought it was an AMAZING read and it SUCKED me in BIG TIME!

This story revolves around some very dark issues for both the hero, Logan, and the heroine, Grace. The effects that these circumstances had on them caused them to drink themselves into oblivion. I TOTALLY GOT IT, and was able to relate to both Logan and Grace's addiction, being a reformed drug addict myself. I think Maya Cross did an excellent and realistic take of both hero and heroine and their issues with alcoholism.

Logan and Grace were PERFECT for each other. Neither one gave up when the other one needed them most and that was spectacular to read. They took their time getting to know one another and once they did, they shared their dark secrets. They laid them out bare and raw and never once judged each other. They COMPLETELY understood each other, and for me that was a HUGE reason why this book made me feel the way I did. I really got to know these two characters, I felt like they were my friends. I found myself wishing I could be there to help and comfort them. I connected emotionally on so levels.

When their walls came tumbling down, they took the next step and became intimate. The love/sex scenes were EXTREMELY HOT AND EXPLOSIVE! With each encounter their bond grew stronger. I could feel their love growing and along with it, their lives beginning to renew.

Of course, with any romance book, there are ups and downs which keeps the story flowing. This was not an easy relationship for the main characters; they really had to work on it. They made many mistakes, but in the end they worked through it all and were together. I also want to say that even though there is a sequel to this book, Grace for Drowning does NOT end with a cliffhanger.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Grace for Drowning to ALL romance readers who LOVE a DARK, EMOTIONAL, STEAMY and EXTREMELY well written book. Maya Cross you outdid yourself with this one!

They say death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside while still alive. In Grace For Drowning by Maya Cross, be prepared to be consumed in this emotionally gripping tale of two broken people trying to escape the darkness. Can two broken individuals find love and comfort a second time around? Or is the pain and hurt too much to bear? Nothing is black and white. Love is not perfect. The truth hurts. And behind their eyes is a story to be told.

gracefordrowning

Staring at the bottom of the bottle, Grace is drowning in sadness and loss. Spiraling down, she is stuck in the shadows of depression where she is gripping with the loss of her fiance’s suicide. Memories of her fiance haunts Grace and the only thing she can numb her broken heart is alcohol. Emotionally vacant and sadness consuming her, Grace’s only salvation comes in the form of a stranger, who understood the emptiness behind her eyes.

When Logan first spotted Grace at the bar, he knew behind her tough exterior lies also a broken individual who is drowning in sorrow, guilt, and loss. There was some magnetic pull that drew Logan to Grace. He wanted to help her since he knew what it was like having alcohol as crutch. As much as Grace tries to push Logan away, she was immediately drawn to him.

Grace for drowning_1

The connection between Logan and Grace was absolutely moving and touching. Ms. Cross did an amazing job showcasing two people who were broken and found salvation in each other. Though, what started as an unconventional romantic tale, the battles and obstacles they endured was a testament that love conquers all. Logan and Grace are not perfect but the imperfections of their love makes it perfect for them. For years, Logan was living in the shadows of the dark and Grace brought light back into his eyes and heart. Not only did Logan save Grace from drowning but Grace healed Logan in more ways she could have imagined. Behind their eyes, lies a couple who found light, hope, love and the meaning to live.

One word to describe Grace For Drowning: Beautiful!!! This book was so well written that I found myself devouring this book in one sitting. Ms. Cross literally took her readers on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. Grace and Logan’s emotional journey as couple gutted my heart and played with my emotions. I felt every ounce of their pain, loss, heartbreak, love, sadness, and happiness. The emotional and physical connection between these two were so strong that you could feel their love being evoked in each page. The beauty in this book is the message that love heals and hope never fails. Grace and Logan’s story truly made you believe in the power love and second chances. If you are looking for a story that will grip you then I highly recommend Grace for Drowning. It took my heart, twisted it around, tore it to pieces, and slowly taped it back together.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite HOPE.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

description

This was my first book by Maya Cross and for sure it will not be my last. A beautiful, emotional and gut wrenching read, Grace For Drowning is a story about loss and grief, second chances in life, second chances to live and love. This story is about two broken people who try to cope with their lose, who try to find a way to live with their pain, to move on; a story where hope means nothing and everything.

Hope is a dangerous thing. When the pain came ” and it would ” it made things so much worse. – Lucas

Grace is a broken soul. Grace has lost everything, her love, her job, her life. Grace is numb. For four months she is trying to cope with her fiancée suicide. For four months she drinks to forget. She finds a job through a friend at a bar, hoping a job can cut down her loss. She knows working in a bar is not the smartest decision after she managed to drink herself out of her last job, but she thinks she is ready for a new beginning. She is determined to handle anything because she had to, because she needs a change.

We had a whole future mapped out together, but now all that waited for me when I woke up was darkness. I had nothing. – Grace

Logan is damaged. Lucas hurts. Lucas knows what loss and grief means. An army veteran, seeing so much misery he is broken, he is empty. Despite all that he is a fighter in more ways than one. Pain has a way of stripping you down, burning away your masks until it's just the core that's left. – Logan

From the start Logan recognize the pain in Grace's eyes. Like Grace, Lucas spent his fair share of time hunting salvation at the bottom of a bottle. He is drown to Grace from the start, he wants to help her, he wants to save her. Grace tries to fight her attraction to Logan at first, because getting involved with someone is the last thing on her mind, but their connection is to powerful. Soon they start a relationship where they have to fight their demons in order to survive – individually and as a couple.

You showed me there was light at the end of the tunnel. Things may be dark right now, but I have to believe it's still out there somewhere.

Like me, reading this story you will experience many emotions, you will relate to Grace and Lucas, you will relate to their grief and lose, you will relate to their need to love and hope again. I loved Grace and Lucas together and their connection and electricity. Their connection is so powerful and beautiful from the beginning and make the story absolutely intriguing till the end. I adored how caring and loving are to one another, how they support and understand each other and how their love win in the end, because LOVE means HOPE.

The storyline was captivating from the start and I wanted to know more about Grace and Logan, their pain and happiness together, their relationship and how things will end for them.

Overall, Grace For Drowning was an emotional and touching story about hope and the power of love with great characters very well developed and a intriguing storyline. I really enjoyed it!

“Together, we can beat this.”

Jenny:
Grace For Drowning tells the story of two people lost in a void painful memories and who find and had found solace at the bottom of a bottle. This was a story about sadness, loss, grief and how just one person believing in you and caring enough to take a chance on you can make a difference.

“Things may be dark right now, but I have to believe it’s still out there somewhere.”

Both Grace and Logan became an emotional crutch for one another as they dealt with loss, grief, guilt and pain, but what started out as friendship soon grew into something much deeper and how they handled those intense feelings would either be their saviour or their downfall.

‘Here eyes were the worst. Hollow, haunted, empty. It was a look I knew all too well. I saw it every morning in the mirror when I woke up.’

I commend Maya Cross’s telling of this story because she really did tackle tough and sensitive matter subject and I wish I could have felt the heart crushing emotion I had anticipated. It hurts me to say that it didn’t quite get there for me. I was invested in Grace for Drowning and had to see it through to the end and know how they fared, however given the nature of the story and the depth of Grace’s grief and guilt together with the severe PTS Logan was fighting, sadly their story didn’t move me to the degree I had expected.

‘Pain has a way of stripping you down, burning away your masks until it’s just the core that’s left. We found each other because of that…’

Grace and Logan were two beautiful characters, two broken souls who seemed so adrift in themselves and felt such hopelessness that you couldn’t help but feel for them, but I wanted and needed to experience more of their raw emotion and feel it deep in my heart but sadly I felt a little disconnected along the way as I was hearing, rather than ‘living’ their journey. There was true beauty and sadness in Maya Cross’s telling of Grace and Logan’s story, but it didn’t quite reach the pinnacle I had hoped for. What about you Gitte?

Gitte: I have to say I applaud Maya Cross for tackling some pretty heavy hitting issues in Grace for Drowning. It could and should have been an absolute sob fest of a read as everything was there for it to be so. But no Jenny, sadly it just didn’t work for me overall. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. This is gutting as it could have been brilliant!! Don’t get me wrong; I had to finish Logan and Grace’s story as I enjoyed many aspects of it. I was invested enough in them to see how their relationship panned out as well as their own individual road of healing. There were definitely some really beautiful moments; some tragically so.

‘An addiction is a living thing. It’s insidious, it’s powerful, and it will do anything to ensure it gets fed. It hijacks your body and whispers in your ear, and it knows exactly what to say to snake it’s way past your guard.’

For me the strength of the emotional part of Logan and Grace’s relationship was lacking and the timeline and resolutions were not quite believable, also there was not enough ‘afters’ in my opinion. I would’ve loved to have experienced them working through it together in order to fully understand the characters and feel their struggles as well as believe in them as a couple. I guess in some ways I felt I was told rather than left to experience everything as the story slowly progressed to suddenly feel rushed with unnecessary angst in the last 20%. That being said, my heart went out to both characters as they each had their demons to fight and an inability to start living again.

“Hope is a dangerous thing.”

I thought the writing was absolutely flawless and Grace For Drowning had the makings of what could have been a fantastic read. I also loved having both POV’s as it helped understand the depth and extent of the suffering and pain. ♥

“I don’t know if I have the strength to fight this.”

Surprisingly despite the dark and sexy cover, this book is quite a heart warming romance that's not all sexed up. Is not a dark read nor a violent one. We have a heroine who was battling with alcoholism due to losing someone dear in her life and a hero who was a recovering alcoholic.

Grace is drowning in her sorrow after losing her fiance and even lost her job as a chef in Vegas due to her new acquire addiction. Now she's working as a bartender at Charlie's where she met a new bubbly friend, Joy and their brooding and quiet bouncer, Logan.

At first glance, Logan looks brooding and intense, but after getting to know him, he is kinda quiet and zen. Once a month, he had fights at the ring within the bar, an outlet that soothes him. He trains intensely by day and work as a bouncer by night.

Logan feels an undeniable pull towards Grace and knew about her drinking problem from one glance. In fact, he had suffered the same problem himself when he came back his tour at Afghanistan. But no matter how he tries to talk to her and offer his help, Grace is not receptive towards his attention.

"There's a girl in here somewhere who deserves a second chance, and you owe it to her to make that happen."

There is a healthy dose of UST there whenever these two are in the same vicinity. Logan keep his hand off thinking she is vulnerable and not interested, while Grace just plainly doesn't want to start any relationship whatsoever with a man who confuse her. Logan is relentless in helping her curb her addiction and she is wondering what is his ulterior motives.

I like the fact that the UST is not drag on for long and they both finally come to an understanding and want to be together. I like seeing them doing normal things like going on first date and all those getting to know you questions. Often time, their past came up and threaten their happy bubble, but they have a healthy communication and being supportive to each other.

I like Logan's POV that came with a tinge of humor. He tends to chastise himself when he feels like he can't live up to Grace's expectation. He also had a mild case of PTSD that he manage to hide pretty well, but bring him out of his comfort zone and thrown him into a crowd, he starts showing his vulnerability.

He is very wise when it comes to helping Grace, but when he himself is haunt by his own demon, will he be able to help himself?

"Nobody belongs to anyone completely, not even themselves. There's a piece of me everywhere, just like there's piece of you that will always be with Tom's."

There isn't a big suspense plot here, which is why I decided on a 4 star. The climax was dealing with some of Logan's personal issue and how it might jeopardize their relationship. This works as a standalone that comes with a HEA without any cliffhanger, but Maya Cross is hinting for a sequel. I'm interested to see what's next for Logan and Grace.

"I really thought life wasn't worth living anymore. But you showed me that wasn't true."

4.5 stars, very, very close to 5 stars.

A wonderful book about two people who have turned to alcohol to try numb out the pain that is enveloping them. Great writing, two wonderfully drawn out characters and a story where two people actually talk to each other about their problems, previous loves, current feelings, fears, hopes (at least they do until the very end of the book when one of them falls back into the abyss).

Logan is a MMA-type fighter who has battled with alcohol since his best friend was killed along side him while both were serving in Afghanistan. He has terrible PTSD from his time in the war and his only salvation he found was in a bottle until he discovered strength and purpose in his MMA fights and training. He is moody, doesn't say much and rarely lets anyone into his agony.

Enter Grace, who has also fallen into the alcohol trap to try and recover from the gut wrenching suicide of her fiancé, Tom.

Grace happens into a bar where Logan is the parttime bouncer (home to his MMA fights). When Grace gets out of control drunk, Logan escorts her out of the bar. But he sees the pain and suffering in her eyes, similar to his. Later they meet again and Logan takes it upon himself to try and bring her out of her alcohol induced haze and get her life on track.

Logan and Grace really bring each other back from the precipice and its a great love story until tragedy strikes and old patterns return.

No one will be disappointed with the ending but its quite a ride to get there. This was a great read.

I love a great MAN fighter novel. This has a really different approach to it. The character of Logan struggles with a lot, almost too much. He fights and trains for the need to be busy. This guy is in the gym 5-7 hours a day! He has had alcohol problems and thanks to Charlie, his boss, he has been successfully sober. Being he has had Charlie to guide him through overcoming his addiction, Charlie comes into play later in a big way!

Then there is Grace, down on her luck, transplant from Brooklyn, in Vegas and...she's hitting the booze too. There is Joy, a bartender that shows Grace the ropes, is bubbly, and wants to offer nothing but friendship. I liked how Joy interacted with Grace. There was a need for information but Joy never pressured Grace for anything other than being a co-worker and friend. NO spoiler but there is a time when she tells Joy something and Joy tells Grace that she knew all along. For that I was thankful that Joy wasnt nosy and in Grace's business.

The history of Grace and Logan is tough but rich. I liked how the alternating POV were chapter by chapter and in current time. I thought it helped the story flow.

Definitely a worthwhile read if you like emotional romances. There was a very emotional story that blended romance and a big addiction together in a great way.

Hope is a dangerous thing, but now it's a risk that I'm willing to take.

Grace For Drowning was a deeply introspective story of two "broken" people, struggling, and finding redemption in one another. I use the word broken lightly in my reviews these days, because it is so common and I find myself desensitized to the issues. I think a lot of other readers have this problem, as well. But in this book, I think it's an accurate description.

Logan and Grace are both brought down by real problems. For Grace, she's struggling with guilt and depression after losing a loved one. She's struggling to move forward, but it is so very hard. For Logan, the effects of life as a soldier, along with troubles re-acclimating into society have played havoc on his mind and heart. When the two meet at Grace's lowest point, they set off on a path to a better future.

Here's the deal: I really admire author Maya Cross's take on these characters, and how she develops their story. The fact that both have had issues with alcohol dependence and how this plays into their story, was well-done. I think it is very important to point out that Grace and Logan are not "healed" by each other or sex. Yes, they have a very sexy relationship, and it could be extremely steamy and playful at times. But, that's not what fixes them. And the simple fact they're together doesn't fix them, either. Logan's struggles with PTSD will likely never disappear entirely. Grace will always feel some guilt over her loss. But the strength they provide each other, the advice, simply listening, being there, can all have a healing impact on another person. What Grace and Logan give each other are the two most powerful feelings of all: hope and peace.

I feel like I'm being so vague with this review! I know I am. What I will say about Grace For Drowning is, in a sea of books filled with exaggerations, melodrama, Band-Aid-covered issues, this book does not fall into that pattern. It is a sexy, angsty, emotionally-driven story that I devoured, and I do recommend it.

A sense of peace began to descend on me, and it wasn't just the peace of seclusion and silence, it was something deeper. Something that seemed to seep through me all the way to my bones. That constant undercurrent of tension that underlined everything I did felt more muted than it had in years.
"Will you sit here with me for a while?" I asked.
"As long as you want."

We were two broken halves making something that vaguely resembled a whole. Well adjusted Grace and decorated soldier Logan didn't belong together. She'd never get me without the shit she'd been through, and I'd never get her without mine. Pain has a way of stripping you down, burning away your masks until it's just the core that's left. We found each other because of that, and so I couldn't begrudge it, no matter how much I might have wanted to.

MILD SPOILERS!

Well, I'm left really angry at this book.
First off, let me just say that I was totally IN LOVE with this book up until the end.I mean, it was definitely a five star read.
The battles that these two people had to face, individually, were tragic. The way their undeniable attraction and eventual love was helping them to heal their wounds - beautiful - and totally sexy too. Just two fragile people....constantly on the edge....just waiting to fall - but proving they were their to catch each other - AWESOME.
BUT the way the author had these two at the end? AWFUL! I felt fooled! I felt like they didn't have what they spent the whole book building and making me believe.
The whole book was building up to something - I knew it, but I also just totally felt these two characters would get through it - and - while they DID (sort of) - I felt totally betrayed! How could our H just ABANDON her in HER time of need - when before - he stood by her through and through in the beginning. THEN to have the author just do a HFN with the impending doom I know is going to come from book 2 (as the teaser stated book two was about how the couple would deal with the H's rising fame - yep, you know that means faithfulness tests). I don't feel like the H will succeed at all with staying true to our h. I don't even wanna read book two because I feel like they are going to be put through too much. I mean, reading about two people's tragedies and then rooting for them, only for them to be hit again and again with angst is just too much - it's just depressing.

I hate the way these two ended up and I just don't even wanna know what's gonna happen. I'm just going to pretend this book ended at about 80% and forget anything else.
Sadly, I don't know to who I would recommend this book - that would enjoy it. The H is OTT possessive, and totally in love, but well, "it's" just too much for him.
I just don't see him or her being strong enough for much more. Their both so fragile as it is ... Who knows? Maybe book 2 will be awesome-sauce and totally 180 everything I feel - but I don't think I'll ever know.
I just think the author should have moved what happened in the last 90% to maybe 75% so that the HFN didn't feel so dooming to their relationship. There wasn't a lot done to restore them enough by the end.

Grace for Drowning is an emotional rollercoaster ride of a read and I loved every freaking minute of it. It is not a sappy romance. It is not heart and flowers. There is no charming billionaire to sweep a naïve young thing off her feet. This is not a boy meets girl, falls in love, and they live happily ever after tale either. This is the story of a broken boy meeting a broken girl and their attempt to find happiness despite the odds stacked against them. And above all else, it is a story of hope; while Ms. Cross does not give Logan and Grace a neatly written, tied-up-with-a-bow happy ending, she does give them hope.

Because of the ways in which Grace and Logan are broken, their characters felt so real to me. I connected with Grace and understood her loss, the accompanying depression, and the desire to numb herself to the pain. Although I don’t have a personal experience that compares with Logan’s, I can empathize with his feelings of being lost and how his PTSD has affected him since leaving the service. The way in which their alcoholism was presented by Ms. Cross merely added one more layer to making the characters seem so real – at least for me. That the story was told from both Grace and Logan’s point of views made the story that much more enjoyable as it gave me insight into their feelings and actions.

Ms. Cross has penned a beautifully written story that made me laugh and made me cry; she made me fall in love and she broke my heart; and she gave me a book that I know I will read again many times. Grace and Logan’s story is beautiful. And I have to say that I adore Joy and want a friend just like her. Well done Ms. Cross.

Grace & Logan ♥

description

You showed me there was light at the end of the tunnel. Things may be dark right now, but I have to believe it's still out there somewhere..."

This was the first book I've read from this author, and it was not a let down. Such a powerful, emotional, and beautiful story. One thing I really admired was that the characters both weren't perfect (no one is) and they didn't have to be perfect to help the other out. They both are dealing with, have dealt with, and will continue to deal with their issues but they are fortunate to have the other. I would have given it 4 stars although I found that something was missing either the story was rushed, not long enough, or needed more depth. Nevertheless, it is a good read and this is a talented author to look out for.

Grace for drowning

What do you get when you put two emotionally beat up people together? A great story that's what!!

The journey this book takes you on is heartbreaking, and will pull on all your emotions, the author hasn't even left the sex scenes to just be sexy, she's put deep emotions in them too!

Grace is a broken woman getting by day by day, she doesn't want or need a man at the moment or so she thinks.

Logan, first off I love the name Logan it's a sexy name! Logan is no stranger to pain and distress, as soon as he meets Grace he recognises the signs and is desperate to help her, it won't be easy though.

Through their journey they both discover a depth and strength that surprise them, Logan was so supportive and understanding, let alone sexy!

This book contains very strong subjects including alcoholism, suicide, PTSD, but to balance it out it also contains caring, love and passion.

A fantastic read, I finished it in one day.

Highly recommended.

This was a good book, but I think it could have been better. It was emotional, more so from Logan than Grace. I felt more connected to Logan than Grace because we get more from Logan's background and what he has been through. We only get bits and pieces of what Grace has delt with after it happened. I would have liked to see what is was like for her with Tom more, then maybe I would have felt more connected to her. This book had one of my pet peeves. It is set in the US, but a lot of the words and references are from the country where the author is from (which I believe is Australia). It drives me bonkers if I have to look up a words meaning or try to figure out what the character is saying. I wouldn't say that this story ended on a cliffhanger, but it did not end with any real closure. Not sure if I will read a second book if there is one.

I read a lot if these types of books. They can tend to get monotonous, boring and similar after a while. This book grabbed me right away because of the authors excellent character development and fantastic storytelling! Everything flowed so well. Nothing jumped too fast leaving you wondering "wait, what did I just miss there" like so many other rushed and hurried stories and characters that I've read in this genre. I was emotionally invested in both of these characters and can't wait to read about their next journey together! I thought the author did an amazing job at accurately describing alcohol addiction and obviously did her homework on researching the world of mixed martial arts and the world of a training fighter.

Expertly written, fully thought out plot. Only thing is….At times I didn't really feel that much sexual tension between the two characters. That's just me. Atleast she did take the time to make these two fall in love. I love when I get a read like that. I can't stand when an author makes the characters just jump each other's bone in chapter 2 hello. The build up is just as good as the reward. Aside from that I really liked the book and thought it was a good addition to my collection. Part 2 better make cry some tears because after all this. I think I need a tear jerker. I felt a small fissure of something towards the end but nothing to get all bent out of shape about.

Grace and Logan... Two lost souls...two broken beings... Two damaged hearts... Would they ever find hope? Love?

This story is quite different, as it deals with some tough issues... War, PTSD, suicide, alcoholism... Mix all that up with a fighter, actually two of them just in different ways... A splash of hotness, and a surprising twist I didn't see coming, and you get yourself a great story!

Maya always delivers on fun sexy reads but this one is a bit darker. Our main characters come walking into chapter one lugging some serious baggage behind them. The good news is that it works... it stays an easy read while still delving deeper emotionally. Likeable characters (especially our hero), good inner dialogue, some laughs, and a fantastic romance. This is my new favorite Maya Cross and I recommend it.

I really enjoyed this one...definitely not your typical fighter romance. Logan and Grace are 2 damaged souls, both fighting the addiction that they turned to for comfort. Their struggles are real, the relationship realistic...a great read!

**ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review by the girls and I at www.sizzlingpages.com **

When I
saw the cover for this book, I really thought, without reading the synopsis,
that this was just going to be another story about an MMA Fighter finding the girl
of his dreams.  But, let me tell you that
the story went so much deeper than that.
This was a story about two people struggling because of events that have
happened in their life, and addictions that haunt them on a daily basis.

I totally fell in love with Logan.  It was more important to Logan to be a good,
caring friend to Grace first - before daring to think that they could become
something more.  He knew she was
struggling, and he was going to do his damnedest to help her overcome her
addiction.  He knew personally how it
could destroy a person.

They tried to fight the attraction, but it was too strong to
ignore - and when they came together the first time - WOW!!  Grace finally opened up about her past with
Logan, and with his help, she started to heal, and find ways to occupy her time
instead of drinking. His encouragement and attention was so sweet and
endearing.  He always seemed to keep her
best interests first.  That is until
another situation occurs - and this time it's Logan who needs someone to help
him out of the darkness.  Grace just has to
dig down deep and see if she has the strength to be there for him this time.

I truly enjoyed Grace and Logan in this book.  After all Grace had been through, she truly
was a strong person deep down inside - and it showed through at the end.  Then of course there is Logan, what else can
I say about him, as I've already gushed over him enough.  I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read this
beautiful story about two people helping and healing each other through the
difficulties that life throws at them.

LEEANN'S REVIEW - 4.5 Stars

Grace initially comes off as very sarcastic & highly condescending.. Until you learn what she has been through. It would be enough to send anyone over the edge.

Logan is like a hard shell candy that is all soft & gooey in the middle, but when tragedy strikes and things get hard, he cannot deal with it. But when you learn what he has been through you will get it.

I think this book will hit home with a lot of readers, this story touches on addiction, depression, self destruction, guilt, PTSD and the biggest emotion of them all, love.

Grace & Logan both have tough backgrounds and are living each day coping as best they can. When they come together the decide to help each other get through day by day. This works well for them and their attraction turns into lust and then develops into love. But, then there is an accident & Logan just can’t deal with what has happened, so, he returns to his old habits.

Charlie owns the bar Logan & Grace work in & he is truly a wise old man. He is a bit of a father figure to Logan & has seen pretty much everything life can possibly throw at anyone. He is protective of Logan & very concerned about his relationship with Grace.

Then there is Joy.. Every girl needs someone like Joy in their lives. She sees that Grace is struggling & although she doesn’t want to intrude she makes sure she is always there when she is needed. Joy & Grace became the best of friends from the time they met and Joy is a bit protective of Grace where Logan is concerned.

The sex between Logan & Grace is absolutely explosive & hot as sin. Grace learns a lot about herself through her relationship & sex life with Logan. It is really wonderful to watch their relationship grow & with it their sense of self worth. They really have a deep love for each other and even though Logan bailed on her when she needed him the most Grace knows they can survive it and move on, together, she just needs to find Logan and convince him that this is the case. She knows why he took off because she knows what he has been through. She knows he loves her more than anything & he would not just leave for no good reason. She has so much faith in him & their relationship that she is willing to fight for the both of them.

Because his back story is told so well, I didn’t find myself thinking he was awful for leaving Grace when he did, I could understand where he was coming from & why he did what he did. I can also understand why Grace doesn’t just throw in the towel and walk away from him.

Maya Cross has written a beautiful story about hope, love & looking to the future when you didn’t think you had one.

She has taken a big risk with this book because she has given her characters some very explosive topics to deal with. And it had paid off.

I think she has tastefully included the hard topics that people in Grace & Logan’s situation would have to deal with & you can see she has done her research on these before she wrote the book. The emotion & realism she has drawn from her characters is fantastic.

I really enjoyed reading Grace For Drowning & if you like to experience the emotions as the characters are dealing with them & you love super hot sex scenes then you will love this book.

CARMIE'S REVIEW - 5 Stars

Carmie has a new favorite MMA book!

Grace starts working at the bar Logan also works at. Grace thinks Logan looks familiar but can't quite place him. Logan reveals to her that he saw her a few months back when she was liquored up out of her mind and he told her back then that the liquor wouldn't help keep her ghosts at bay. Grace had turned to drinking when her world was torn upside down; Grace's fiancee committed suicide because he was in over his head in gambling debt. Grace was trying to find solace in the bottle and now she is close to being evicted if she doesn't turn things around - hence the bar-tending gig.
Grace vaguely remembers meeting Logan that night long ago; she wonders what he saw that made him say what he said. A few weeks goes by and it looked like Grace had things going in the right direction until she starts drinking again. Logan intervenes and saves Grace's job with the promise that Logan will keep her on the straight and narrow path. Logan and Grace spend time together and ignore the blossoming attraction between them until it explodes in their faces.
Grace and Logan are both scared spitless of their developing feelings for one another but can't resist the physical nature of their relationship either. Even though they are both better, they are both walking a fine line between re-lapse and recovery. What will it take to have Logan or Grace circling the drain again? Who will be saving who this time?
I loved the fact that this was not your typical MMA fighter romance novel - this was real people having real problems. It is a tough subject matter for the author to have covered and Maya did it Justice. I really enjoyed the story of these two falling in love - their courtship dance seemed like a well-thought out dance to and fro. Kudos to Maya on a job well-done!

It’s not very often the first thing I do when I close a book is send an author an email. But that is exactly what I did with this book. This book took my breath away. Two amazingly beautiful and flawed characters struggling to make it through each day find hope and strength in one another. It touched my heart and broke me into a hundred pieces all while making me cling to each word in front of me. It put my heart back together and made be believe in the strength in love. This is a powerful story that is steamy and full of love. This is a book that made me want to stop what I was doing and tell twenty people about it instantly. It grabbed me and shook me up and I left me perfectly content in the end.

Grace lost her way. She lost her hope. She lost her future and her career and was one step away from being homeless. But someone was there watching out for her. Trying to help her gain her footing and help her find her place again. But this isn’t going to be an easy road for her. She has felt the greatest of loss. She has felt the strongest of grief. She has lost herself in the bottle. But she has a chance now to make her life whole again. She can’t go back to the way things have been going for her. She has to move forward if she wants to make it through it all.

But the world seems to be against her and it only takes one memory to send her spiraling out of control again. But there is something about him that makes her want to take the step forward. Something… but what it is…

Logan is perfectly content with his life now. He has learned how to deal with the struggles of his past. He has learned to fight past the demons. He was given his second change. But of course that makes life to easy just to get beyond the demons, especially after she walked into the bar. There is something about her that Logan just wants to help, to comfort, to make better. He knows there is so much more to her than that rough exterior. But who is he to help? Every day is a battle for him. A fight to struggle through. Everyday he faces the battle. But what is it about her that makes him want to be that much stronger, to want to fight that much more?

These are two of the most tragically flawed characters and they find so much strength in one another. But could that be their downfall? Could they need each other to survive that much? What happens if something in the universe shifts or is thrown off balance? Would they be able to survive without each other?

There is so much depth in the two main characters in this book. I found myself struggling with them, for them. I wanted them to heal one another. I wanted them to find their strength not only with each other but for each other. I wanted them to have all of their dreams come true. And though that makes me feel a bit like a child wishing for a happily-ever-after, I couldn’t loose hope for them. I didn’t want to. I saw the struggles, the battles they fought within and I wanted nothing more than to seem them become the victors in their story.

This book had me gasping for air, struggling to breath, believing in something so much bigger. This book gave me hope, love and I found myself laughing, crying and struggling right along with the characters. Wanting so much more for them. But it wasn’t just the characters.

This book touched on a few serious issues. Though Logan and Grace had very different circumstances leading them to a common place at the bottom of the bottle, they bought fought their way back. Logan did it with the help of a family friend, Grace did it with the help of Logan. But the big thing is that they found their way back. It wasn’t a traditional route but it was the strength they each needed to get to where they are.

It’s hard for me to tell you this is a light read, because it wasn’t. It will make you take pause and really think about the cards you have been dealt in life. It may make you stand a little taller and prouder or it may make you cower to see some of your bad habits unfold in front of your eyes. But one thing it will do, is touch you. I know it did for me.

Now this seems like this is a super serious review and this book is going to be a depressing read, it’s not. Yes, I admit there are serious issues at play and there are serious incidents that happen in the book, but it is a smoldering hot book too. The sexual tension in this book is amazing. Two people struggling so much with their own issues, they are pushing one another away in the attraction department. But when it all explodes around them…whew!

This book is not only well written, but it is a beautiful and passionate story. It is a hot steamy romance full of angst and desire. It was gripping and heartbreakingly beautiful and I just wanted to read more and more of their story. Maya Cross has written such a great story and really touched my heart. Five fabulous stars and I cannot wait for more!

Putting two people with our issues together was a fucking powder keg. I wanted to help her, not damage her more.

Grace is struggling. She is trying to start a new life after going through a dark few months after her world was shattered. The fall out is overwhelming and she is having issues coping in unhealthy ways. She begins a new job different than her previous one, but at least it is a positive step.

Something about the new bartender, Grace, captivates Logan, the bouncer. He sees her continued battle and coping mechanisms. He has his own demons and usually stays detached, but feels compelled to help her.

Maybe I just don't like sitting by and watching somebody else drowning.

Logan "Blackjack" Anderson is also a trained fighter. He works, he trains, but lives a solitary existence. Grace has suffered loss and is alone as well. Their interactions are tentative, stilted, and awkward. But Logan always seems to be there in the background and they find themselves drawn together.

Logan is a gentle giant. He is big, powerful, tough, but understanding, intuitive and supportive. He can read the pain and hurt mirrored in Grace and he pushes into her life to help "save her". He has his own demons and daily struggles stemming from his past military, relationships, and addiction. But he still puts himself out there for Grace. He is one of those characters that you just cannot help but fall for due to all the good characteristics he shows, but then it breaks your heart to see his underlying hurt and insecurities.

Grace is sinking and drowning, but still hesitates at first to take Logan's hand. But once she does, he becomes her anchor. Her protects her, supports her, and pushes her. There is underlying sexual tension, but also denial and resistance. They are both cautious and confused, but have an underlying need. When they are good, it is heart warming and beautiful. But when they are faced with difficult situations, it is frustrating and heart breaking. Their connection is healthy in some ways and causes more stress in others.

We found each other because of that...

They both have demons. They both need patience, time and understanding. They have to let go of guilt, deal with personal issues, and handle the other's problems to even attempt to find balance. It deals with anger, guilt, loss, and acceptance. They both makes mistakes, have failures, and disappointments. They both are affected strongly by their past and in need of a savior at times. And it is a matter of if they are strong enough to be there during both the bad and the good times, and be able to handle them together and fight for what they want. But it is also a story of wading through the pain to find a path towards new beginnings, hope, and redemption.

"...People always use the phrase 'move on' in situations like this, but that's bullshit. You never move on from anything. That's what people are, just layers of all the shit that's happened to them before. You don't need to move on, you need to keep building more layers...."

This book could have been really dark and depressing, but I did not find it to be. I could see the good and hope in them even if it was buried under armor and issues. And the way it was written, it did not drag you down or depress you, but made you want to keep finding that lightness and healing. It was told in both points of view allowing you to understand their deep hurts and fears. I really connected with the characters, their complicated back stories, and emotional turmoil. There were some mysteries that were revealed throughout the story and some twists that added more interest. And I felt like it was a poignant, deep, heartfelt read.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review. Will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.

4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes

Grace For Drowning is a beautiful story about loss, love, hope and healing. It deals with deep issues such as addiction, PTSD, and depression. This is Logan and Grace's story of how two broken people find each other and help each other become whole again.

Grace is currently in a very dark place. She is still dealing with the loss of her fiancé by turning to the bottle. She has no family to be there for her and show her love and support. When she left town to move to Vegas her parents basically disowned her. So now she is all alone in her fight against the demons that she is now facing. She has already lost one job and needs to get herself straight so that she doesn't lose the job she now has at Charlie's, a local bar. It is at Charlie's where she meets Logan. There is this pull that she feels with Logan but she knows that she needs to stay away. She is not in a good place right now and doesn't need to complicate things with a man. But she cannot deny the connection that she feels when near him.

Logan has his own issues and demons that he is fighting. He was off fighting for our country and after returning home he has changed. He is dealing with PTSD and trying to cope with what went on overseas. He lost his fiancé because of his issues and at one point turned to the bottle as well. But right now while he may be clean and sober he is still faced with the demons from the war. He is a bouncer at Charlie's and is very quiet and very reserved. The only thing that he has right now to help keep him going is fighting. When he is in the ring he can lose himself in there plus he is a pretty damn good fighter. But when he sees Grace he sees the pain in her eyes. He knows and understands exactly what she is going through. He understand her pain and her need for the bottle. There is something about her that makes him want to help her. He wants to be there for her, to help her heal.

Logan and Grace were so perfect together. They were both so broken and you could feel their hurt and pain. But being together made it better. They supported each other and were there to help each other try to heal. The slowly got to know each other and eventually the friendship that they formed became more. They learned how to open up to each other, telling each other their secrets from the past and their fears. Together they found comfort and happiness. They found a love they didn't expect. But can two people who are as broken as these two are become whole again?

Logan and Grace's journey was not an easy one. They certainly had their ups and downs. There were moments when fear took over and threatened to destroy any progress they made towards finding happiness. In order to find the happiness and the love that they deserved they needed to both fight and to fight hard. This book was emotional at times, my heart breaking for the two of them. I felt the emotions that they felt. They were both in such a dark place filled with hurt and pain and you felt it. You felt their heartache, their fears, their pain. Maya Cross dis such a fantastic job with this story. It dealt with some heave topics but were done so in a perfect way. This book is a must read. I loved every minute of it and while I hear that there may be a sequel, I will say that is does not end with a cliffhanger. Excellent read!!
