Sweet for Him

Rate this book
Claire Branson is confused about what to do with her life. So when her sister asks her to housesit during her honeymoon, she jumps at the chance for a change in scenery. Claire expects to spend her month-long stay at the Blake mansion figuring out her future. What she doesn't expect is to come face-to-face with the high school hunk who broke her heart.

Rob Halliday caters to the rich and famous. For the successful, high-end remodel contractor, life is pretty much all work and no play. Until he starts his latest project: a kitchen and bath remodel at the Blake mansion. That's when Rob comes face-to-face with the curvy girl who got away, and is forced to rethink his life's priorities.

Being under the same roof for an entire month won't be easy for Claire and Rob, especially since he still oozes charm and sex appeal and she's cuter and curvier than ever. When their memories of the past spark fireworks in the present, will they risk everything to take a second chance on love?

Sweet for Him is a BBW second chance romance with a HEA ending. It's a sweet, feel-good novella that will make you believe that true love is worth waiting for!

Harper Ashe writes the kind of romance she loves to read: mostly sweet, sometimes spicy, always delicious. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her handsome husband, almost-grown children and very naughty cat.

A Note from Harper Ashe:

I first realized that I wanted to be writer when I landed a gig as co-author of my high school newspaper. Once I saw my words in print (yeah, that was a long time ago!), I was hooked!

After a long and winding career in marketing and copywriting, my kids are mostly grown and I have finally have the time to write what I love most: romantic fiction.

Claire’s at a crossroads trying to figure out what she what she wants. She’s housesitting for her sister, who’s away on her honeymoon, when she realizes the contractor working on the house is Rob Halliday, the man who broke her heart in high school. Then, sweet romance happens.

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between

-novella length: it’s 90 pages, not a huge time investment.

-Body positive: it wasn’t about the BBW heroine hating herself, which I will always appreciate. I liked that it was more about acceptance and loving yourself.

-I wish I was as positive about the romance: so much of the story tension was through miscommunication and depended on the H/h not talking, but making assumptions. That isn’t that interesting to me, as I’d like to get to know the characters. Novellas must be on point in their pacing and this felt like it dragged at times because I was too busy eye-rolling.

-Kisses only and fade to black on the sex. That’s not necessarily a turnoff for me, but his actions the day after? Total turnoff, mostly because of the extremely lazy excuse for it, just to fabricate some kind of tension.

The Bottom Line
There’s some good stuff, and I like the body positive message, but the actual romance wasn’t as strong as it could be.

Sweet Second Chances

This is a wonderfully sweet romance about past love and second chances.

The beginning of the novel starts right in the middle of everything, which I liked. Claire's sister has just married a billionaire, while poor Claire is stuck single. Not only that, she's tasked with housesitting for her sister and new brother-in-law while they're on their honeymoon. I mean, maybe it's not too bad, considering she's housesitting for a billionaire, but I think maybe that makes it worse, too. Single and all that empty space? Kind of lonely...

Except in pops Robbie. They dated way back when, but things fell through, and maybe she's never really gotten over him. Can 11 years change someone, though? He seems nicer, sure, but is it just a ruse? He broke her heart before, so I can understand why it'd be hard for her to give him another shot.

I liked that, though. It's an interesting twist to the usual romantic start. I think it's fun to read about characters that know each other but have a reason not to really like each other, you know? It's different from just the mysterious attraction that starts from the very beginning. Robbie and Claire had chemistry a long time ago, but obviously that sort of fell through. Can they restart it, though? Is there even anything left to restart?

Sweet for Him is that kind of story. One thing that I thought was really powerful was the double self-conscious hit, because of Claire's curviness and also how Robbie left her before. She's definitely reluctant and hurt by him, but it's one of those things where maybe she just really wants to believe that they can come back together? It's been a long time, so they've both definitely changed, too. It's fun to read about their differences over time, also. Their reminiscing about the past, and then how they've changed in the present, is intriguing and thoughtful.

I loved reading Sweet for Him, because I really could connect with these characters in a lot of ways. I think everyone always wonders about the "what ifs" in life, you know? Do people change, or will there always be a wall between us? Especially for high school, and when you go to your reunion and everything, it's interesting to catch up. Claire kind of skipped out on hers, so this is more of a reunion between Robbie and her, but it's the same sort of thing.

I just really enjoyed the premise and the intimacy and connection between Claire and Robbie. I wanted them to realize that maybe they both made mistakes in the past, but that sometimes we all need to make mistakes to realize what we're truly missing. It's a really powerful and romantic story in a lot of ways.

I'd really recommend this one! It's sweet, and a little sexy, and very special. I think you'll really enjoy it!

I thought this story was really sweet, as the title indicates. I like that Claire, with gentle prodding from her sister Abby, was willing to give herself a make over and trust that there were ways for a curvier woman to be fashionable and pretty. I used to have the same issue of wearing tom boyish clothes as a young teen, and trying to hide all of my curves, so I identified with her. And shout out to Robbie for being a sexy contractor. :-)

Second book

I think this one was as good as the first one. I love a light hearted and fast read. That means I can finish the book in a day and not have to stay up all night. Would recommend this series to anyone.

*contains a few spoilers*

In this boo we meet Claire and Robbie. In the 7th grade Robbie kissed Claire and then proceeded to ignore her. Now that he sees her at the house he is working at he can't get over how beautiful she is. Robbie knows that he walked away not only from something potentially great but also his best friend when he was younger and is determined to fix the past.

Claire has been carrying this hurt from what Robbie did since the 7th grade. It helped add to her body issues it also has made her afraid to move on with her life. While staying in her sister and her new husbands home while they are on their honeymoon. Little did she know that agreeing to house-sit for them would mean coming face to face with her past.

In this book we are faced with what happens when you have something hurt you so deeply that even years later you haven't gotten completely over it. The problem I have with the book is even though he hurt her in the past when he does it again and makes her run for home instead of saying no more I need to find someone who accepts all of me all the time not just when he's not afraid. She lets him hurt her and then takes him back. I don't understand that. Over all it is a good book I just have a problem with the end of the book. I get they deserve a happy ending but letting him hurt her like that and all is forgiven attitude just rubs me wrong.

Curves For Him

This overly sweet kinda short read. I was a bit lost at the beginning of the story, then like a light bulb went off. Claire makes me think of cotton candy sweet all around girl. High School and around that age two things happens... hormones and peer pressure. Both of those can make a young persons life hell.
A billionaire for a brother in law.. yeah baby!! So we have Claire chill-axing in a big house... when she runs into a “ex”...
Can young people have chemistry?? really.. grins.. OK so they both have reasons to stay away... past involvement and all. So because of this chemistry.. will the both take a chance at a bit older and smarter time together??
For me it was OK.. a bit girly and sappy. But In sure others that are looking for a sweet love story will simple adore this read.

What a wonderfully fun, sweet, sexy romance told with dual points of view which lends a fabulous balance to the story. What do you do when the boy you had a crush on middle school reappears in your life? Do you give him a second chance after he crushed your heart? Claire is faced with this dilemma when she is house sitting for her sister, the contractor that shows up is her best friend from childhood, Robbie, who crushed her heart in 7th grade. As she battles her attraction to Robbie, she is also struggling to find her footing in life after floundering from job to job. Could the reappearance of her old best friend help her find a new path? Robbie is shocked to see Claire at the Blake mansion but he is excited at the same time. He was always sad that their friendship fell apart as kids. Maybe he will get a second chance. I purchased this book in the Curves for Him - 10 book box set.

I really liked this book, until...

I really liked this book for the most psart. The hero and the curvy heroine were likeable, their interaction was fun to read, especially when the POV changed back and forth and you could see their miscommunication. I liked it right up to thee point where they got together, then he treated her horribly the next morning. A week later he's all "It was too good,I was scared, blah, blah, blah", and just like that, she's forgiving and over her hurt, and calling his house " their" house. He was a jerk, plain and simple, and she let him give a half hearted excuse and get away with it. That whole interaction seemed out of character for him, but then the resolution came too quickly and easily.

The story was sweet, but the sexy scenes were absent. They went from starting to head into the house to the next morning. Not even using tepid words like in the Harlequin Presents old romance books. For someone who likes to read erotica the author could have at least thrown me a bone. That non-sexy parts and the fact that the end felt a bit rushed made me give this one 3 stars. The story itself was pretty good, but it lacked some 'meat' (take that how you will. LOL!).

It looks like there was a story before this of her sister Abby, I may read that one too, but I would go in knowing it would be a 'tame' read for me.

He really needs to work on his game if he wants his own happy ending

Claire is house sitting for her sister Abby while she's on her honeymoon. Things get complicated for her when she runs into her old crush Robbie.
Robbie is the contractor working on Abbys' house while she's on her honeymoon. Things heat up for him when he meets his old friend Claire.
He has to convince Claire that he loves her curves and all, but of course the boy puts his foot in his mouth and send her running.
It's up to newlyweds Abby and Stephen to fix things for Robbie, so that he can get back his curvy gal.

Claire is housesitting for her sister and brother in law while construction is happening.... and who's the contractor? The boy she grew up with, kissed in 7th grade and then was promptly ignored. There are sparks when they see each other again, but will he still act like a jerk and can she get over her insecurities to tell him what she wants?

Three stars because it's kinda ridiculous to still have the same feelings as a grown woman as you did in 7th grade; there was no maturity, nor depth of character here.

This is light and cute.

Claire and Robbie

Ok over all good book. But goodness all the miscommunication is killing me. I get holding ok to stuff but they are both now 29 and Claire is still holding on. No one is a mind reader ever so why do they keep everything inside.

The major thing I hate (and this is a roll over effect from the last book)....as a fellow bbw I know we could suffer fr, confident issues. But why do these women seem so lost until they find the men they are suppose to be with and then everything fall into place. It just really irritated me

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Harper Ashe. This is book 2 of the Sweet Curves series by the author.

Claire Branson is watching her sisters estate while they are on their honeymoon. When contractor Rob Halliday enters the picture Claire fights the attraction to save herself from another broken heart by him. Rob Halliday is doing some remodeling for Stephan Blake while he is away. Seeing Claire again brings back some old feeling and starts some new feelings.

Claire and Robbie's journey is enticing, fun, serious and unexpected at the same time. This romance is a blast from the past that comes full circle after years and years. What both think that happened in the past to each was really not the case so a forbidden yet traumatic episode kept both from moving on but not moving on can be fun specially when you come face to face again.

What will happen to Claire and Robbie?
Pick up this read to find out.

Happy Reading

Good story!

I really enjoyed this story. It was a good continuation of Abby's story. I liked the connection to the party represented by Robbie. However, while Abby's story was fantastic and I enjoyed this one, it never really drew me in. I had fun reading it but I never found that spark I this story.

Not for me

I gave this 2 stars because I am not a novella kind of reader. The story was very sweet but not to believable for me but that's the point.
