“We are the descendants of the witches they couldn’t burn.”

Three names haunt my mind.

Three names of three devils who burned my life to ash a decade ago.

They broke my heart, destroyed my soul, and ruined my family's reputation. All on the same night of my parents’ gruesome murder inside the supposed sanctity of my home.

I’ve been hiding ever since, determined to avoid any more mistakes like trusting the wrong person. But now someone else I considered family is taken the same way, brutally and without warning.

And now there’s a new name haunting my very existence.

My people are vanishing, a sickness is spreading, and it’s all I can do to pull myself together when those same three devils come crashing into my life again. Despite my protests, they are determined to protect me from an obsessive murderer who is out for blood and vengeance.

I have to protect myself.

Fortunately for me, sirens were never known for their mercy.

thank you cici for allowing me to read this arc!

i think the book started off strong but it fell apart for me a little bit. i also don’t think the writing style was right for me. i felt like some of the things didn’t really need to be said, the situations were kinda given already so it made it a little redundant for the characters to actually say it out loud.

This was such a surprise in the best way. I didn’t really know what I was getting into with The Oddity. It’s quirky and a little chaotic, but in that magical, offbeat way that keeps you turning pages just to see what will happen next.

The writing has a dreamlike quality that works so well for this kind of story. It’s strange and sometimes a little confusing (intentionally, I think), but I liked how it all slowly came together. The Oddity itself is such a cool, eerie concept.

If you like stories that are a little weird, a little sad, and full of unexpected magic, this one’s worth checking out.

The story for this book was good. I really enjoyed it. As I follow the author on TikTok, I knew this was one of her first books. And while I did enjoy the story, there were moments that didn't make sense to me. And if the author does see this, know that I enjoyed the book a lot. These are just moments that stood out to me that didn't make much sense.

To start, one of the characters was described as having blue eyes and then a few chapters later was described as having brown eyes. And this happened multiple times with no real explanation so it could be seen as a mistake that was overlooked. Also, Lexi's skin isn't consistent, at least in the way the wording implied. At the beginning, it is stated she looked in the mirror and described her skin as porcelain but then, that same day, many chapters later, she describes having a tan stomach. Due to the location she lives in, the tan skin makes more sense than her having porcelain skin unless the porcelain was supposed to describe how smooth it looked?

Next, this book was told in the first person so it would be assumed that anything that was mentioned outside of dialogue would be as though Lexi were giving us the information of her world. However, there are moments when that doesn't appear to be the case. At the beginning, it is mentioned how Grayson, the leader of Trinity, got his place, stating he had killed his uncle. But later in the book, Lexi seemed to have forgotten that and said she thought Grayson was voted in. Another time was when the effects of pixie dust are being described but then Lexi, again, seemed to forget it and get vocal confirmation from another character.

During one of the first spicy scenes in the book, a character goes from being described as naked to suddenly having boxers on. Before they are intimate, Lexi states that the character is naked and does not mention anything in her way when she touches him but then shortly after, without any time for him to have gotten out and put his boxers back on, they go right into steamy.

There are also a couple moments when it seems characters get confused. In a scene where Lexi and the Devils are talking to Kane, Morgan's name comes up in place of Kane's, though he is not in the room at all and implied to not even know the meeting is happening.

As a part of this scene, Lexi hears about the mermaids being kidnapped, even though she had been told previously about the missing mermaids all ready, or had I read that wrong? The added information was that they were part of her coven but I thought that had been obvious? I'm not sure, maybe I'm wrong there.

Later on, when they go to a bar, there is a moment when Lexi is almost kidnapped. But it doesn't make any sense. Rather than her kidnapper trying to get away, he barricades them in another room and tries to assault her? And the Devils move so slowly in this moment. They are vampires with super speed. How is it that none of them reached her, even if there was an army blocking them, which there didn't appear to be unless every bar patron in there suddenly tried to kill them. The kidnapper does break a window but then he handcuffs Lexi to a pipe above her head and tries to assault her like that rather than just taking her and getting away. [By this point I accepted that most of the characters would instantly want to screw Lexi because she's a siren and all, using that to explain why characters seemed to instantly fall in love with her. Though when she later almost kisses another character, I got real confused. Like, why was that about to happen?]

Shortly after that, Aden gives her a bag and said he talked to Ella while she was out and had a new dress sent to her. How long was she out that this could have taken place? When would Aden have had a chance to make that call between when she got free and when she woke up after being healed, while he was also helping Tristian heal her. The timing just doesn't make sense and it would have made more sense if Aden just had the change of clothes in his trunk.

Throughout this book are moments when the characters speak in French, be it full sentences or even just select words and even the spells seem to be French. Google Translate was my friend for this book. I did notice that one least one line that I can remember, when translated, was a run-on sentence. It could have been split into two but without the punctuation, it made the flow of the words a bit messed up.

Also, at the end, we get a bit of a reveal. A character that would have made sense as the Wishmaker is kind of revealed not to be. He wasn't my only suspect but putting that bit in the third person and revealing his name kind of made it seem like it wasn't him, though he fit the part well. Then the next bit seemed to be told from the Wishmaker's point of view as they collect something important that will no doubt cause issues in the next book.

Though, shortly before that, the character who made that possible wasn't very smart, going out alone without telling anyone, when they were completely aware that the Wishmaker had been trying to frame them for crimes they didn't commit. And even allowed themselves to be put in a situation where no one could vouch for them, allowing the Wishmaker to get exactly what they wanted and would no doubt make their plans easier. That bit made little sense to me as it just seemed to make it easier for the hammer to come down on their head. And considering this character had previously been described as strong enough to fight most compulsions, what could have been strong enough to make that character sort of black out.

Despite all these mistakes, and a few others I found, the book itself was fun to read and I look forward to more. I already have the sequel so I guess I will dive right into that one.

I do not mean to knickpick at the author for these instances. Many of them are more errors that should have been noticed during the editing process but were likely missed.

I do recommend this book as it does have a very interesting premise that kind of reminds me of Zodiac Academy at some points. The spicy wasn't as prominent, which was fine. I was actually glad it wasn't at the forefront since Lexi was supposed to still be upset with the guys. It made sense that they had to work for it but they didn't seem to need to work hard.

I feel like this book could have used more padding and maybe not had it follow day by day. While the days often took multiple chapters, if you pay attention to how often it states they go to bed and the morning comes, it feels like time is moving quickly. I understand the severity of what they are going through and the fact that they are trying to hurry and get the case solved but everything just moves so quickly. Things are discovered quickly and information is gathered quickly.

For one of the author's first books, this was not bad and do hope she keeps writing. I genuinely look forward to seeing more.

I enjoyed this book. The spicy parts were a little cringe. I was lost thru the first part of this book until about halfway thru. The transition from hating these guys to giving them the cookie had me whiplashed. But what I really enjoyed was the originality of the story. The author worked hard to create her worlds and present her story and I think she did a good job. Did it blow me out of the water? Not really. But that could just be me. Im sure for some this is a 5-star. I would still recommend this, for sure.

"You underestimated me. . .you just turned this princess into a villain." - Lexi

Ten years ago, they destroyed her life and smiled. . . Fate wasn't done with Lexi that eventful night because her parents were taken from her as well. Finally emerging from being a recluse and walking on eggshells she must face a new evil threatening her and her coven. There's something going around that's about to bleed into the rest of the world if not stopped.

Lexi can do this right? Or will she need to recruit more help? The Three Devils have returned and have noticed Lexi is stepping into the light as well. Can she trust them? Will they lead her down a path to get revenge and much needed justice or one where she's alone and holding the shattered pieces?

"Tears shed for another person are not a sign of weakness. They are a sign of a pure heart." - Daniels

I absolutely loved this read! I was a little worried at first with a flashback presented so soon in the book, but it helped to set the stage. Understanding what happened so you could feel Lexi's emotions since this book is her POV only. Lexi had a life changing night that went bad in more ways than one.

The love interests of the book messed up BAD and they are trying to earn Lexi's trust again. I was so happy to see that Lexi did not just take them back with one lame apology. No, these interests are having to really work at things, and they know it. There's some slight bullying, primarily giving each other a hard time. Lexi's not one to back down from a challenge or a fight and gives them a run for their money.

Lexi also experienced some extreme loss and I really appreciated how the author addressed grief and losing someone who's extremely close to you. How the grief and pain never just leave or magically disappears. It doesn't matter how much time has passed sometimes random things trigger your brain and it feels like you are dealing with the situation all over again. We get to see that side of grief that not many people wish to talk about or seem to understand. It does get better, but it never just leaves.

I loved the dynamics of Lexi and the Three Devils. Their energy with one another and how they just understood each other. Not to mention how Lexi kept them on their toes and wouldn't let them swoop in and start bossing her around. Lexi was just a really awesome strong, female lead! I enjoyed the dynamic and energy of other characters mentioned throughout the book. One in particular I hope to see more of in the books to come!

Someone I have to mention because just. . .I would go over to her house and drink tea with her every day! Mrs. Wilson, Lexi's older neighbor who may be mature, but her heart and soul is that of a youthful teen. She's just so playful and sees right through Lexi! I really loved this one scene in particular involving artwork and having to run. . . That is all I am going to say because I was just dying!

This book contains a mystery and a puzzle to solve. There's a villain working in the shadows, and I have theories on who it could be. Just the suspense and pacing of this book was perfect! It's faster paced but the slow burn of the romance. . . I wanted to snap everyone's phones in half. . .

A why choose romance and the males are having to redeem themselves. I loved how I got submerged into Lexi's character and kept having a little voice in the back of my head asking, "Can we trust them?". Lexi being hesitant as well. We get all the sexual tension and the buildup. There is MFM teasing action and MF action, but not the big scene you will be craving. I think that will happen later, Cici does make sure you aren't left disappointed. . .

There's language in the book, violence, slight gore and mention of blood. Heavy feelings of grief and loss, anxiety attacks on the page, and trying to trust. There was a scene of attempted SA, but it was stopped! This is a darker read and the romance is enemies to lovers, second chance, close proximity, and vampires. With vampires we have our lovely bite/blood play. Can't have a vampire romance without, it's in the contract.

I loved all the magic in this book and the take on vampires and other magical/mythical beings. Not to mention the jokes about sparkly vampires. Also really loved what Lexi is and her transformation and abilities. This was such a good read and the cliffhanger. . .I need the next book! I was also blown away by the artwork on every page header and chapter breaks. Would honestly get tattoos of the artwork!

Enjoy the read and don't forget to give the author some stars!

Half-siren Lexi has hidden herself away following the murders of her parents. Now her best friend's engagement party draws her out, where she encounters the three vampires who betrayed her the night of her parents' deaths. Lexi hasn't forgiven them for their actions. A new tragedy in Lexi's life forces her hand, and her three enemies become her protectors.

The world-building had some novel elements that I really liked. The premise of the novel (that being a serial murderer with occult overtones targeting the fae) was what really drew my interest in this novel. I found some of the characters stood out as being particularly well-rendered. (Unfortunately, the main characters are not among them). I do very much appreciate that all the characters are flawed, and that their flaws are not glossed over.

I think this novel could have really sparkled with some intense editing. There was a lot of imprecise language, errors, and the repetition really hurt the pacing. One element that was an obvious choice (and that perplexed me) was the lack of contractions in the dialogue. Given that there were a number of present-day pop culture references and expressions, this stood out starkly. There were also some gaps in the world-building that I think would have enriched the novel significantly. All these could have been caught via editing.

And the French. Having French be the language the fae default to on occasion makes absolutely no sense to me, and if there was an explanation for it, I don't recall reading it. The French is not always properly translated, has spelling and grammar mistakes, and, when thrown into an English sentence, isn't always correct syntactically.

Finally, the romance element. I felt that some of the tropes used were very problematic. I found this whole element - from Lexi's attitude towards how this developed to the pacing within the story, to the concerns about reactions of other people - to just not make any sense, given the characters and the situation in which they find themselves. Admittedly, I tend to avoid romance as a genre, so I'm clearly not the right audience for this novel to begin with, but I can usually set aside my general eye-rolling. I was not able to do so in this case.

While this novel does have some extremely promising elements, I found the execution didn't live up to that promise. I have committed to reading the next book in the series, but I don't see myself going beyond that.

You're 16 and at a sleepover at your BBF's house (Ella). She falls asleep first, so you go to find her older brother (your first love) and his friends; what should be a chill interaction quickly turns into a cruel joke as he and this two best friends humiliate you and steam it online to an audience. You run home, hoping to run into the loving arms of your parents, just to find they've been murdered. This tragic start is were Lexi's story begins.

It's been 10 years since that tragic night, and Lexi is now attending Ella's engagement party.
Unfortunately, she is forced to deal with the three men she has spent years avoiding (Bash, Aden, and Tristan). Though they attempt to flirt with her, she makes it crystal clear to them that there is no love lost for any of them. While at the party, tragedy strikes again, and now these three "a$$hats" are ordered to protect her and become her bodyguards. But Lexi finds herself conflicted, as she slowly tries to forgive the men who destroyed her, after learning about the 10 years they have spent in the shadows trying to protect her. So the question becomes, why did they do it?

Not to give anything away but the phrase, "Actions speak louder than words," is how I think Myers built the story of Bash/Aden/Tristan, before the reason why they did what they did 10 years prior came to light.

Lexi's relationship story with the three men runs parallel with the murders of fae, both with the usage of a drug and the making of said drug, and with a serial killer who wants her.

This story has so much going on: reverse harem, magical covens, elemental powers, full fae and mixed fae, magical creatures, dark and light magic, political intrigue, mystery serial killer, evil magical cult, etc.

I enjoyed this book so much that as soon as I finished, I picked up book 2.

Note: After reading the author's notes at the end of the book, I had an even greater appreciation for her approach on grief and trying to move forward, using Lexi's story. Often times this journey is very formulaic in books and though some reviews did not like some aspects of Lexi's story, I found it unique, like most people who are overcoming trauma.

This book had me hooked from the start. The mix of mystery, supernatural elements, and psychological tension made it such a gripping read. The eerie atmosphere built up slowly, like the way the old house itself felt like a living presence, almost watching and reacting to what was happening. We’ve all experienced a house like this, the kind that sends chills up your spine, making you feel like someone’s watching even when you’re alone. The strange whispers, objects moving on their own, and that unsettling feeling of being watched had me on edge the entire time.

The characters felt real, especially as Lark tried to piece together the cryptic messages left behind. The diary entries were such a great touch, adding layers to the story and making me feel like I was uncovering secrets alongside her. The tension between her and Wes added another dynamic that kept me invested—not just in the mystery but in their complicated relationship too. And that moment when Lark found [specific eerie event] in the attic? That gave me chills. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the book threw in a twist that completely changed how I saw everything.

One thing I really liked about the author’s writing style was how immersive it felt. The descriptions were so vivid that I could practically hear the creaking floorboards and feel the chill in the air. The suspense built at a great pace, keeping me engaged without feeling rushed. However, there were moments when the story felt a bit too drawn out—some scenes could have been tighter without losing the tension. Also, while I enjoyed the psychological aspects, I wish certain questions had been explored a little more by the end.

Overall, if you love books that keep you on edge and make you question everything, this one is definitely worth picking up.

The oddity review

I want to start this review by stating that I was incredibly honored to be an ARC reader for this book. Cici Myers, thank you!

I will do my best to complete this review without giving anything away, but some things need to be said.

First of all, my love, if you are interested in a fast-paced spicy fantasy with a “why choose” trope, you have found something that will absolutely hold your attention.

HOWEVER.

The best way I can describe this book is that it feels like my bestie had a fabulous idea for a fanfic and wrote it. Don’t get me wrong; I love my bestie, and her ideas are amazing. In fact, I 100% want to read her fanfic and beg her for more. That being said, I owe it to her and to you to say with as much kindness as I can muster. The version of the story I read needs edits. The plot is written in a very rushed fashion that has the story jumping around in ways that had me confused. I had to reread certain sections multiple times to understand the characters' history and story better. Something that stands out while reading is that the author seems to jump from idea to idea without blending the story. As a reader, this comes across as a bit jarring.

Now, with that out of the way… girrrrllllllll! You have a fantastic idea for a plot! I am all in! Thank you for putting this pen to paper! The bones of this story are fabulous, and I know you are just getting started on your author's journey!

I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!!

Follow the Siren’s song…

… and fall for the Devil’s charm.

This perfectly describes the connection between a powerful up and coming siren witch and the devilish vampire men she can’t help but resist. The Oddity introduces Lexi, Bash, Tristan and Aden and an amazing world of intermingle lores ready to bewitch any reader’s of paranormal and fantasy books.

There’s a continuing theme of learning and healing from past trauma that speaks to me as the characters grow and learn to overcome. A shadowy villain triggers some hard learned lessons and nightmares from the past. I really enjoyed the interwoven depths of characters, creatures and how magical beings exist in the same world.

I would have loved a bit more groveling from the Devils. ☺️ But it’s a great first book and can’t wait for the next one!

This book sucked me in within the first few pages! From funny scenes, to serious moments, this dark fantasy romance is a fantastic easy read. I flew through the pages, constantly turning waiting to know what happened next. So well written, that I could envision everything that was being described from the characters to the world around them. The author's writing style definitely brought the story to life! I fell in love with the characters and the dialogue between them. The Oddity is definitely a must read by any person who loves vampires and witches. Also, love the artwork on Chapter headings and little moons on the other pages. Must read if you like something that keeps you interested.

The Oddity was a mixture of spice, violence, intrigue, and mystery. As I read through, I couldn't help but admire the resolve and individuality of each character. I loved how the characters interacted with one another, and it was neat to see how the characters progressed throughout the story. Cici Myers did an excellent job exploring the impact trust has on relationships with friends, family, and lovers. I recommend reading this book if you want to see well-crafted characters with a pension for violence and a passion for revenge.

"Show them what you're made of, Princess. I can't wait to see you paint the room red with their blood."

This could have been a really excellent book. There were some parts that were unnecessary. I am half way through the second one and I am to the point now that I just want to find out what happens at the end and leave all their bullshit behind. I get that the guys traumatized her, but damn, we gotta talk about it so much?!
Then there are the misspellings and the grammar that were hard to get through. A couple of places where it wasn't making sense I realized that the names were wrong. Or that was the only explanation I could come up with.
I am all for sharing your stories with the world, I am an avid reader and I do like the premise of this story, but please please PLEASE have someone edit your book.

Book Review: The Oddity

The Oddity is a well-written and engaging read that kept me intrigued from start to finish. While I felt that the story could have benefited from a bit more tension to heighten the stakes and deepen the suspense, it was still an enjoyable experience overall.

One of the standout aspects was the main character’s dialogue—it felt natural, sharp, and added a lot of depth to their personality. The way the author portrayed the characters and world was vivid and immersive, making it easy to get lost in the story.

Overall, The Oddity is a great read that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a unique and thoughtful narrative. It’s a book that stays with you, and I’m glad I picked it up.

The Oddity is a fun, fast-paced read set in a unique world of witches, vampires, and sirens. Lexi, the main character, is a half-siren witch who finds herself caught up in secrets, danger, and a bit of romance. The world-building is super creative, and the story definitely keeps you turning the pages.

That said, it felt like the book could’ve used one more round of editing—there are a few inconsistencies that pulled me out of the story at times. The romance also shifted a bit too quickly from enemies to lovers, without quite enough build-up to make it feel natural.

Still, it's an enjoyable read overall, especially if you like a mix of paranormal drama and romance. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next book!

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but I really enjoyed it! It had everything: murder, mystery, romance, vampire/witch/siren vibes, and even humor! The story was original, interesting, and well developed characters that, as a reader, I was definitely invested in. This book was a great start to an enchanting series! It has some trigger warnings, so just be aware. The only thing I wasn’t too crazy about was the spice-which was cringey at times in my humble opinion, I was much more interested in the mystery and the great world building and character development. A solid start to a new series! Very excited to read more!

Much thanks to the author, Cici Myers for the ARC!

RH Witch/Siren/Vampire Mystery

I enjoyed this book, but didn't understand the sudden transition from distrust/revenge to love. It feels like there were a few chapters missing.

Lexi has lived a normal life since her parents died, but when her surrogate father is murdered she suddenly has to take over as the head of her coven while accepting protection from 3 vampires she distrusts and works to solve the mystery of who murdered her surrogate father and why.

The steamy scenes are super sexy, and by the end of the book you've forgotten the strange transition for enemys to lovers.

I'm looking forward to book 2

What can I say about this book? How about how great the story line is. The beginning got me so hooked, how I hate a bully!! They treated Lexi so awful it made me tear up a bit! Later as the storyline gets better they are brought together again by the love of a mutual person and to see Ella’s love written so cute was beautiful! I am drawn into the story like a moth to a flame. So many twists and turns thinking I know exactly who the Wishmaker is to knowing I don’t have a clue!! Good job Cici Myers!!!

OMG, this ARC had me hook, line, and sinker! I didn't want it to end, and the cliffhanger! I will be continuing this series and it is definitely on my "to buy" list for physical books.

Lexi is a powerful witch/siren who has lost everything, but those who took from her are going to pay dearly. This is a spicy murder mystery romantasy. Sirens, Vampires, Witches, and all the other creatures are caught up in this friends-to-enimies-to-lovers story. 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 And the Three Devils are going to prove to Lexi just what she means to them.

BEAUTIFUL 🖤

I’m usually a fast burn super dark RH… but this pulled me in! I love their world & back stories. Seeing them try to work through it seemed so real to me. Lexi is strong & can take care of herself being half witch half siren 😏🔥 but those 3 beautifully broken Vampire Devils 🔥🔥🔥 I have truly enjoyed seeing it play out. By the end of the book I was crying & apparently I needed that because I can’t wait for the second book!

I read this book in 6 hours!! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there were a few parts that I personally felt could’ve used a little tweaking. Overall though this book was amazing!!! I mean the tension, the characters, the plot, all of it was soooooo good!! Sometimes when more the one MMC is involved it can be too much, but the spicy scenes were 👌 🔥!! I can’t wait to read the next book!! ♥️

This book was not a genre I would typically read but I was captivated from the very first page! I could not put this book down! I was pleasantly surprised to find out there is a whole series that I cannot wait to finish reading. The character development in this book really gives you a feel of who the characters are and leaves you wanting to know more about their story! Definitely a five-star book!

Liked the paranormal mystery aspect. Thought there was too much focus on the relationships/spice and not enough on progressing the plot/mystery or character depth. Spelling/grammar issues and a couple of places where they got the character names wrong made it less enjoyable to read. Felt like a good story idea but not well executed. Gifted a copy of the ebook by the author via voracious readers only.

Highly entertaining in every way!

This book pulled me in every emotional direction. The characters are bold and spicy. The imagery was so vivid and felt crystal clear. I loved the fashion and glamorous moments. The sexy parts are definitely intense and will leave you blushing. I mostly loved the story and how it progressed. Can't wait to see what unfolds next!

Not what I expected

I read this book because my best friend told me too and I am glad she did. I could feel the emotions of these characters and wanted for them to figure out what was going on before anymore crazy stuff happened and got a huge cliffhanger 😳 I am jumping right into book 2

All three of them are so perfect but so different. I don't know who I love more. The characters are something to the party .I am jumping to the next book!

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only and I’m so glad I did! I LOVED IT! I love a good RH but this book was so much more! The story has depth and isn’t like anything else I’ve read! I literally didn’t want to put it down! Now I’m gonna go buy the next one so I can find out what happens next!
