The New York Times bestselling author of the Cavanaugh Brothers novels returns to the Cavanaugh’s Texas Triple C ranch as the brothers confront the painful memories of their childhood and the truth about their sister’s murder…
No matter how many fights UFC champion Cole Cavanaugh wins, he can’t rid himself of the guilt of not having saved his twin sister’s life. Now, not only is he facing his arch enemy in the ring, he’s fighting to uncover the truth about Cass’s death. But will winning both fights truly give him the retribution and absolution he seeks? Or does he need the healing power of love to finally move on with his life?
The mystery surrounding Cass’s murder also haunts veterinarian Grace Hunter. Many believe that her father might hold the key to the truth. Unfortunately the ex-Sheriff’s deteriorating mental state makes it impossible to separate fact from fiction. As Cole persuades Grace to help him unlock the elusive clues, her defenses weaken. She finds the Stetson-wearing fighter irresistible. But while the truth could free Cole’s heart, it could very well end up shattering hers.
Cole Cavanaugh is determined to find his twin sister’s killer. She was murdered back when they were teenagers and it still haunts him years later. Cass was the other half to his whole and he felt like he should’ve been able to protect her. Cole’s willing to go to desperate lengths to uncover the killer’s identity, even some breaking and entering into Dr. Grace Hunter’s office, the daughter of the now retired sheriff in hopes of finding clues.
Grace’s father is the only family she has left. He was her everything after losing her mother in a tragic car accident. Now Cole is threatening her father’s reputation, implying he may have knowledge in his sister’s murder and covered it up, or may somehow have been involved. Cole suspects Grace’s father knew more about his sister’s murder, but can’t really get the information out now that he’s suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Grace knows the pain of losing a loved one, so she can’t fault Cole for looking for answers, she would do the same. So she offers to help Cole by digging through her father’s old files together. While she wants to help Cole and the entire Cavanaugh family find peace and justice, Grace is determined to clear any doubts about her father.
Cole and Grace didn’t get off to the best start, and they seem to be working on opposite sides, even while working together, but that doesn’t stop the attraction they have from building as they get to know each other better.
I adored this romance! It seems lately I’ve been reading a lot of stories where there’s long internal musings, dialogue that goes on in the character’s head but not much character interaction. Not so with Brash. Instead the characters actually communicated and got to know each other. I want lots of character interaction, especially in a romance, not just detailed, long inner lusting with the other party having no idea how they feel because they keep it all in. Inner turmoil on why they should or shouldn’t be together is even worse. I get so sick of the back and forth! Thankfully, this is not the case with Brash. Grace and Cole had fun, humorous exchanges that had me cracking up throughout: “Don’t you think a doctor should be doing this?”— Her eyes met his and she looked slightly insulted. “I am a doctor.” “You’re a vet,” he countered. She lifted her chin. “And you act like an animal most of the time, so I’d say it’s a match made in heaven.”
I appreciated there wasn’t any long, drawn out angst because Cole and Grace were open with their feelings. I loved the writing style so much! Yes, there were serious, deeper issues plaguing Grace and Cole, but the story was also fun and HOT! There was sizzling sexual tension, and build-up!
Cole was a tough, tatted, UFC fighter, but he showed his softer side with Grace, and Belle the Bassett hound he supposedly had no intention of taking on. Grace was a sweetheart, but definitely not a pushover. Not overly jealous or dramatic either. She just told it like it was, saying whatever she thought for the most part.
This is the third book in the Cavanaugh Brothers series, but it wasn’t necessary to read the previous books. I wouldn’t mind going back and reading the first two to get a better feel for the continuing story/mystery arc which still isn’t completely solved. Also, I enjoyed this romance so much I’d love to experience the two previous ones, as well.
Cole and Grace’s romance wrapped up nicely, but there was sort of a cliff with Blue Cavanaugh, and a surprising revelation. Blue is the next brother to get his story in Bonded, slated for a September release. We got bits of Blue’s POV in Brash, and he was bitter and angry. He had every right to be after discovering the truth of his past, and I’m guessing the next story may be a little darker. A copy was kindly provided by Signet in exchange for an honest review.
Brash was the third book in the Cavanaugh Brother series by Laura Wright.
Cole Cavanaugh was the Fighter. He lost his twin sister a decade earlier to an abduction and murder and he had been running and fighting ever since. He was closed off from all emotions except an outlet for his guilt and pain.
Dr Grace Hunter was the town vet. She was also the daughter to the former Sheriff who declared Cole’s sister a cold case. The Sheriff’s mental health was failing rapidly but Grace was trying to help the Brothers without hurting her father.
We saw the sparks fly between Cole and Grace in previous books. In Brash Wright developed the push pull between the two while dropping hints about the suspenseful theme that had been the underlying plot within the series.
I was really looking forward to Cole. He was probably my favorite brother to date and it was obvious he was suffering with the loss of his twin. Although I liked both characters, the story itself was slower paced than I desired. I was craving more depth within the suspenseful side of the story. As a result, I rated it a 3.5 which rounds to a 4 on this review site.
All in all, it was sexy, suspenseful and entertaining. The best cliff hanger yet was revealed so I can’t wait to conclude the series on Bonded, the story of Blue Perez, or make that Blue Cavanaugh.
Brash is book three in The Cavanaugh Brothers series by Laura Wright. Yep, I fell in love with the Cavanuagh’s from the first book Branded. Each of these sexy brother's have captured a piece of my heart. Brash is a heartfelt and romantic tail.
From the moment I opened Brash I was pulled right back into this spectacular world. I enjoy Ms. Wright’s writing style. She has a away of describing people, places, and more with such ease that I can picture every detail. My favorite parts have and will always be the diary entries. They are so well done and perfectly placed in the story.
Cole our tattooed badass cowboy fighter wants no part in falling for a women let alone Grace the ex-sheriffs daughter. Grace is all about stable now and no more bad boys. She has been hurt to much in her past by the love'n and leaven types. The couples always have a way of complementing each other, they see what others do not and they know how to sneak into each others defensives. I loved getting into their heads, understand what they feel, what happens, what made them who they are, how they feel about their past and the hear and now.
We also get deeper into finding out what really happened to Cass and who the mysterious Sweet’s is. Fantastic job setting up for Blue's story. Ah! I want Bonded now, especially after that ending. Holy Shit!
These stories have wormed their way into my heart. If you enjoy reading about sexy cowboys, a little mystery, and women who know how to sneak their way into a guys heart and break down their defenses, then these books are for you.

One family destroyed by a death that happened over a decade ago. Anger, resentment and fear have ruled their lives ever since. Unable to forgive the man who let them go and refusing to loose each other these three brothers keep getting betrayed by the family that was supposed to love them. Discovering that there is another brother, a man they respect just adds to the struggle of simply living.
Laura Wright tells a rich, sensual poignant story in Brash, book three of her Cavanaugh Brothers Series. Deacon (Branded) was the oldest and the protector and took his sister's death hard. James (Broken) was the sensitive one. He tried to keep the family going after her death but he struggled and fell. But Cole? Cole was her twin, the other half of his soul died that day. It destroyed him and this is his story.
Grace Hunter, town vet, good girl, daughter of the former sherrif.. should be she had it all. But what she has is a father who is loosing his mind and a link to the death of one of the town's sweethearts. Grace knows her father is a good man even if he is often lost to dementia. Since she is sure of his integrity she is fighting those Cavanaughs how dare they consistently accuse her father of something. Righteous anger runs her until one day, one conversation and a piece of the past slips through. Could her father be involved? Grace at least is curious enough to go to the Cavanaughs with her information...
Cole Cavanaugh has been fighting to save his sister since she died. Guilt ridden for letting her leave his sight, all he can do is the the anger reign as he fights. Consequently he is a UFC champion. For years this has been enough but now his brothers have found some peace in life and some clues in death.. Cole wants what they have but has no way of figuring out how to find it. At least until sexy Grace Hunter turns to him with her information.
What makes this book so special? It's hard to define but I would have to say the connections. The redemption and the trip back home. Cole hasn't had a home since Cass died. In all honesty one of the most poignant remarks in the book was when he said Cass was home. She was gone.. so he no longer had a home. It was heartbreaking. This man, this strong man.. was just a broken little boy.
Laura Wright tells this story so beautifully you can't help but fall in love. Grace having to deal with watching her father fade before her eyes, a daughter's pain. But the race against time is wonderfully juxtaposed against human failings.
And it's not all about family.. both Grace and Cole have to fight their own demons. Discover just who they are and decide if they are going to fight for each other or walk away.
As I said this is book three, it can be read as a stand alone but I wouldn't recommend it.. These Cavanaugh Brothers are wonderful.. and there's one left! Can't wait to read Blue's story.
First Date: The tension between Cole Cavanaugh and local town veterinarian, Grace Hunter, has been developing since Branded, the first novel in the series. The attraction is there but her father may hold clues regarding Cole’s sister and she worries about him. I have been dying for their story since the banter and sexual tension between the two has been delicious. Grace wants to protect her father, but the more she interacts with Cole the more she wants to help him or kiss him. Cole has issues and just maybe this little veterinarian can tame the mighty beast. I am all in and cannot wait for the dance to begin in earnest.
Second date: Delicious banter and wicked teasing combined with an accident had me laughing, sighing and giggling. Grace is attracted to Cole, but she wants to settle down and make roots. Cole on the other hand holds folks at arm’s length and works his issues out in the ring. Holy overheating Nook, things are getting downright heated between them, but training means no touchy for Cole. I loved this aspect because it allowed for tender moments, and hot, hot scenes that built up the tension and had me swooning. We get more installments from Cass’s diary and see further development. Wright weaved in threads regarding Blue Cavanaugh and I want to know more about this young man.
Third date: At this point, I cannot set Brash down. I adore Grace from her strength to her ability to see and understand what makes people tick. Cole, *sigh* complicated, beautiful Cole I want to hug him, sooth his soul and at the same time lick him. Wright had me melting into a puddle on the floor all while weaving in tid-bits on Cass’s murder. My dates wouldn't have been complete without updates on the other brothers and Wright delivered. She also created jaw dropping twists and developments regarding Cass. The ending is a total cliffhanger with one of those reveal sentences that leave you yelling, OMG! I hope that we will get answers in the next book features Blue Cavanaugh. Grace and Cole ended up being my favorite couple of the series thus far.
BRASH is by far the BEST book in The Cavanaugh Brothers series!
When I began the series, I didn’t think too much of Cole but he really won me over in this book. Grace is equally awesome and I love how she brought out the best in Cole and showed us a more vulnerable, human side to him. The couple had great chemistry and enjoyed their story tremendously.
The mystery surrounding Cass Cavanaugh’s murder is getting intense as more clues are revealed and the suspect list is dwindling. I cannot wait to find out what happens next!
Blue Perez (Cavanaugh) also had some page time and is finally coming to terms with the shocking secret that was reveled at the will reading in BRANDED. It appears he’s been having an online relationship with someone who’s determined to keep him at arm’s length. By the end of the book he makes some VERY shocking discoveries regarding the mystery lady and a few other things that will have your head spinning!
This was an amazing book and I am beside myself, desperately waiting for the next book!
5 Brilliant Stars for Laura Wright!

REVIEW: This series just keeps getting better! I was so excited to read Cole’s story and it did not disappoint. Laura Wright delivered another amazing book in the Cavanaugh Brothers Series! This series contains a murder mystery and with each book we get closer to finishing out who murdered Cass, the sister of the Cavanaugh brothers. Her death haunts all the brothers, but I think it haunts Cole even more than his brothers. In the third book, Brash, Cole joins the sheriff’s daughter, Grace to investigate and try to uncover who killed his sister. I loved Cole and Grace together and their chemistry scorched the pages of this book. Brash was the hottest book yet in this series. I can’t wait for the next book to release in September. I highly recommend this series! Each book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend you start at the beginning to fully enjoy the series. This was a love story that will stay with me a while. Go grab the books! You won’t be able to put them down.

Brash is the third installment in the ongoing saga of the Cavanaugh brothers' investigation into the murder of their younger sister, Cass. This book focuses on her twin brother, Cole, an MMA fighter who uses his guilt to fuel his rage in the ring, and Grace Hunter, the daughter of the former sheriff, who botched the case. Cole and Grace work together to uncover new leads into the identity of the mysterious "Sweet" and his connection to Cass's death.
Cole and Grace's slow-burn, opposites-attract romance has all of the chemistry and true intimacy lacking from the previous books. Their teasing banter is particularly delightful, and it is fun following along as they finally submit to the tension that has been building from book #1. Wright also manages to avoid much of the angst and drama that detract from Deacon and Mac's as well as Sheridan and James's stories.
In terms of the mystery surrounding Cass's death, there has been a great deal of exposition and foreshadowing, which makes it relatively easy to guess some of the twists and turns that emerge. Nevertheless, these revelations add another layer of intrigue to the story.
The book does end on a rather jarring cliffhanger, but the final installment is thankfully published already so I am off to read it ASAP.
Things have been set in motion and the Cavanaugh Brothers are that much closer to discovering the identity of their little sister's killer. Is the truth locked up in former Sheriff Hunter's deteriorating memories or the memories of the violent man who attacked Sheridan and sits in prison? Cole doesn't know the answer to this, but he's beginning to have second thoughts. They have waited for so long and he fears that knowing the truth will do nothing for the swirl of guilt, disgust and feelings that churn inside him and fuel the anger that helps him win his fights in the cage. His older brothers have let love weaken them and that's something he'll never do and then there is the wild card half-brother that Cole isn't sure how he feels about. If that wasn't enough, a sudden call from Grace Hunter, the fiery woman who got a restraining order against him because he took strong action to get answers out of her father calls offering to help him get the answers he needs. Does he trust her motives? Nope, but that doesn't mean he won't play her game.
Grace's conviction is shattered when her father, in one of his semi-lucid moments, talks of hidden knowledge about Cassie Cavanaugh's death. She loves her dad and wants to protect him. She doesn't want him spending his final years in prison especially because he's innocent- or at least she wants to believe this. But she also understands the pain and need for the truth that drives the Cavanaughs. She can help them discover the truth up to the point where it might lead to her dad and then she'll have a big decision to make. That means she needs to partner with the disconcerting Cole Cavanaugh. He makes her bristle and not just with anger. The man and his arrogant, confident ways gets under her skin. He's honest about his avoidance of relationships and limited time in River Black so it would be foolhardy to fall for such a man. She wants someone steady and rooted not a bad boy. The simmering Cole, his intensity and his bigger than life personality make every other option seem dull by comparison. So Grace gets the shock of her life to discover that she, a small town vet with average looks, is the one to capture the fiery MMA fighter's attention and force him to really wish he had it in him to be in a relationship.
I find myself more locked in and in love with this series the further I progress. James' book was great, but the smoldering and bold Cole is sizzling. This book went fast for me and yet it engaged me and left me satisfied. I loved the sultry heat that Cole brings to a scene and Grace's sweet, but sassy flavor really got under Cole's skin. He was so cute with that basset hound that just adored him even though he tried to pretend that he didn't want her. The long-standing mystery of Cassie's death advances so that startling answers are revealed by the end of this one. There were also frequent scenes that involved the whole family including the elusive Blue Perez. The end set things up nicely to flow into Blue's book. I can't wait.
All in all, I'm riding high on this series and love this family of brothers and their romances. Lovers of sizzling contemporary western romance with a strong dose of suspense should really take a good look at these.
My thanks to Penguin Group and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Stepping back into their world again this author gives you the in depth character insight of Cole that is in this continuing series. For each brother this one is the one who I think has the most emotional baggage because he was the twin that was left behind after the tragedy. It has been proven that twins have a powerful connection and with each passing year that her death goes unsolved his anger and frustration built. Channeling that into skills that grooms him into a lean fighting machine. Just right when they thought they might get some answers finally they are slapped with a wall by one thing after another. Grace though loves her father dearly but after one brief conversation she realizes and rethinks her stand with the brothers especially since one of those brothers is often on her mind lately. So giving him a call they begin the painful process of digging even deeper into the mystery of what happened to his sister that long ago fateful day. With the help of some papers small things come to light but also in that recovery they grow to know each other more. Someone has finally pierced that armor he has built around himself. I myself have wanted to wrap my arms around this brother to take the hurt away. Cole also finds out that there is more to Grace then meets the eye. Having to stay with her after a injury is when things really get interesting between the two. She also is introduced to his world. Cole will be doing quite a few things so out of character in this one that will give several a surprise or two. The drama really gets real in this one coming closer and closer leaving a reader breathless wanting to know the truth also. Blue is also very much still part of this story with a shock once again to him after a event happens when everyone finally gets to know one of the big secrets that readers have been anticipating to know. The romance between Cole and Grace one of the best yet in this series where home might just be around the bend in the end. Received a arc for a honest review.
Cole wants to find the truth about what happened to his sister, Cass, years ago. The ex-sheriff knows more than he is letting on. Cole can't get close to him due to his daughter Grace. Grace just wants to protect her father. He is all she really has left. When her father says a few things, Grace starts to wonder. Now she wants to find and know the truth. She turns to Cole. Together they start digging into her father's past files. Together they find more than what they were looking for.
This story will pull you in. Laura knows how to spin a story. I cannot wait to get the next one.

"I am a doctor." You're a vet," he countered. She lifted her chin. "And you act like an animal most of the time, so I'd say it's a match made in heaven."
As Cass's twin, Cole took harder his sister's murder, finding in fighting his only relief. He never got seriously involved in a romantic sense because his sister won't have the same. So, when he meets Grace Hunter and starts to get into her, at the same time trying to figure out what her father knows about Cass's murder and preparing to the most challenging of his fights to come, Cole has a lot to deal with.
This is a deep story, about a man's feeling for the worst tragedy that happened to his family, dealing with a sense of failure in protecting his twin sister. It was an intense read and emotional in so many ways.
I loved the romance and enjoyed reading about the discoveries made in Cass's murder. I'm anxious to read the last book and know the rest of the story.
I held off on reading Brash until the last book, Bonded, was out because I had heard there was a cliffhanger (which there is). I'm glad I have Bonded queued on my kindle ready to go.
I enjoyed the connection between Grace and Cole, their relationship was a slow burn and I was satisfied with their HEA. What I didn't enjoy was how the guys treated Blue. As if he was an outsider, rather than a long lost half brother that was also a victim of so many lies in the Cavanaugh family. I hope they get their shit together in Bonded.
My favorite book in the series so far! It is a very emotional journey! Cole is dealing with guilt over his sister's murder. And a lot of pain.I wanted to give him a hug and comfort him.I felt that Grace was perfect for him.The connection between them is hot! Cole has a soft heart indeed.Laura is the Queen of Cliffhangers! I did not see that coming! And now we must wait until September...Blue's story.
Another great read! I was not as shocked by the ending I kind of saw that one coming. I can't wait to read Blue's story. I wanted Cole to be a little more alpha with all his tats. But he was such a sweetheart. This has been a very good series so far. No complaints and yes this is also a must read!
Quick & Dirty: Cole Cavanaugh is convinced Grace’s father knows something about his sister’s death, and she is finally willing to work with him to find out the truth in this riveting and passionate romance.
Opening Sentence: I think Sweet’s right.
The Review:
Cole Cavanaugh has been haunted every day by the memory of his twin sister and still feels her loss keenly. He has channeled his guilt and rage into becoming a successful MMA fighter, and he has the biggest fight of his career coming up. Despite that, he still finds himself returning to his father’s ranch in order to help his brothers continue to try and find their sister’s killer. He knows Grace’s father knows something, but she still refuses to allow him to question her father.
Grace has been doing everything in her power to keep the Cavanaugh’s away from her ailing father. But when he says something about Cass’ murder in one of his more lucid moments, Grace can’t avoid the issue any longer. She needs to know if her father covered something up, and the only way to find that out is to work with Cole. As they begin spending more time together, they find it harder and harder to deny the attraction growing between them. But can a relationship ever work between them when there’s the possibility that Grace’s father knows something about Cass’ death?
I enjoyed the first two books in this series, so I was looking forward to reading this one, but boy, did it ever exceed even my heightened expectations. I read this book in one day. One day. When you consider the fact that I have two children under the age of two, the fact that I was so engrossed speaks volumes.
Cole is an amazing leading man. He’s tough – the extreme bad boy – and yet at the same time, he is incredibly vulnerable when it comes to Cass. Watching him let Grace crack through his tough façade is incredibly moving, and the time it takes for this to happen feels very realistic. The romance isn’t rushed at all, which is extremely refreshing. The reader is given time to get to know both Grace and Cole, so when their feelings are finally admitted, it doesn’t come as a shock at all.
As far as the mystery plot goes, it’s still keeping me on my toes. A little bit more is revealed here, but I feel a lot more is still to come in book four. I have absolutely no idea who is behind Cass’ murder, which is a definite positive for me, as I hate figuring things out before they’re revealed.
This series has been such a surprise for me. I have enjoyed each book so far, and this one is by far my favorite. I can’t wait to read Blue’s book next!
Notable Scene:
“In the meantime, why don’t you come home with us? Take the burden off Dr. Hunter here.”
“It ain’t no burden,” Cole said, sitting up now.
“Burdens don’t know they’re being burdens, little brother. That’s why they’re called burdens.”
“Fuck you, Deac.”
James’s head came around fast and his voice was sharp as a blade. “Don’t speak that way in front of a lady.”
Tossing his hands in the air, Cole turned to Grace. “Do you see what I put up with, Doc? I’m five years old to them no matter how low my voice is, how tall I grow, or how much hair I have on my ball-“
“Cole, Christ Almighty!” James exploded. He eyed Grace, who was trying not to smile. “Say the word and we’ll take him.”
As Cole cursed and tossed his brothers a slew of threatening looks, Grace lost the battle. She couldn’t help herself. Laughter bubbled in her throat. She didn’t have siblings, and though she imagined at times it was a real pain in the neck, it also seemed like a gift. No matter how angry you got at each other, how you fought, they were still your blood. They were there for you. Had your back. Helped you when you were tired and scared and unsure if you were doing the right thing with an aging parent.
“Her silence speaks volumes,” Deacon said with a hint of humor.
James nodded. “Should we toss him over our shoulder, then into the back of our truck, Dr. Hunter?”
“First, I’d say good luck with that – even with the hurt foot, he wrestles people for a living,” she returned. But truly, he’s welcome here.” It was surprising how easily the words rolled off her tongue. Probably because they were true. “It’s really up to him.”
Cole looked irritatingly chuffed. “That’s right,” he agreed with an arrogant twist to his mouth. “I’m welcome.”
FTC Advisory: Penguin/Signet provided me with a copy of Brash. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
I am a big fan of Laura Wright's Cavanaugh Brothers series. I have read this series from the beginning and I can't get enough! The mystery surrounding the murder of the youngest sibling of the Cavanaugh clan has left me with no nails!!!! Since the very beginning I have been taking notes and trying to figure out who could be behind it all. I was anxiously waiting for this third installment to come along so I could continue to investigate and try to put every single piece of this mysterious puzzle together.
We meet Grace and Cole in the previous books of this series. Their chemistry has been slowly burning up the pages and the way that the author wrote their story totally kept me glued to my seat from beginning to end! From the moment that Grace and Cole meet, tensions run high. Grace's father might have the answers that could solve the murder of Cole's sister. Cole has done the impossible to find out who is responsible for his sister's murder, but every new lead ends up leaving him with more questions about what happened on that tragic day.
Grace wants to protect the only family she has left, which is her dad. Her dad is a retired sheriff and he knows what happened to Cass Cavanaugh, but he won't talk about it. Grace takes the intiative to help Cole with his search to find his sister's killer. The more time they spend together, the more the attraction that they have towards each other is undeniable. As the last pieces of this mysterious puzzle start falling into place, Grace and Cole grow closer together.
I really liked Brash. It was different from the two previous books. It was more focused around the murder of Cass Cavanaugh. The story really took a step forward with this third installment. The author did a fantastic job at writing Grace and Cole's love story. All of the Cavanaugh brothers have their own scars from what happened to their sister. They are all fighting their own battle. With the support of strong and determined women these brothers have found a place where they belong.
Grace and Cole had a great chemistry and I connected with them from the moment they were introduced in the story. Their journey if filled with emotional, intense, passionate and healing moments. My heart broke for Cole. He has so much guilt about what happened to his sister. I wanted him to find closure and begin a new journey. Grace gives him that beginning even if the mystery of his sister's murder is still not resolved. It was lovely to reconnect with all the characters that have made this series a memorable one.
That ending?!?!?!?! Holy moly!!! I was not expecting that!!! I can't wait to read the final installment of this series, which is Blue Cavanaugh's story. Bonded will be out later this year and I can't wait to grab the last piece of the puzzle that will make everything clear. I kind of have of an idea where this is going, but the blurb of Blue's book has left me confused and intrigued.
I give, Brash, by Laura Wright, 4.5 passionate, page-turning, tension-filled stars!
Brash by Laura Wright is a book with an identity crisis...is it a romance, is it a mystery, is it a cold-case murder case, is it about an MMA fighter, or is it about a ranch owner? Even after finishing it, I'm still not sure and while I liked the heroine quite a bit and the hero for the most part I found myself questioning the intelligence of the hero and his brothers for not figuring out who the "bad guy" was when it became blatantly obvious to me early on in this book. That being said, while the mystery/cold case part of this book was kind of a big fail for me I enjoyed the romance between the hero and heroine but there wasn't enough of it to completely save this book. MMA fighter Cole Cavanaugh is back in his hometown of River Black to deal with the ranch left to him and his brothers upon his father's passing and hoping to get a break in finding out who abducted and killed his twin sister years ago. To say he's made some mistakes investigating a recent lead is putting it mildly so when the daughter of the ex-sheriff who investigated the case wants to meet with him he decides he has nothing to lose. The last person Grace Hunter expects to make peace with is Cole after he broke into her office and confronted her dementia ridden father but when her father makes some statements that has her questioning if he knows more than he lets on about Cass's murder she feels she has to get involved if for no other reason than to prove her father's innocence in the whole matter. From the minute Cole and Grace were on the page together the sexual tension and chemistry between them was explosive. I liked the way they skirted around their attraction and how easily they were in each other's company despite not knowing each other well. It was fun watching their attraction and even feelings grow throughout the story and I truly would have loved seeing them spend more time getting to know one another better than so much time on the mystery murder part of the story. I wavered with my rating for this book because I did like the two main characters but in the end I was disappointed in the romance part of this book and quite frankly a bit bored with the rest of it and then the fact that this book ended in somewhat of a cliffhanger that made the decision easier for me to live with. While far from my favorite by this author and even in this series, if you are a fan of this author or this series you might really like this one but for me it was unfortunately a miss.
I have been patiently waiting for Cole Cavanaugh's happily every after, and Laura Wright does NOT disappoint with this latest installment of her sinfully sexy Cavanaugh Brother's series. We are instantly thrown back into a world of mystery, angst, and epic love. This time Ms. Wright is taking it to the ring instead of the ranch. At the end of BROKEN, Cole Cavanaugh and Grace Hunter were not on the best of terms. Cole was caught being deceitful and put Grace on the defensive, leaving Cole with even more questions, and a restraining order. In BRASH, we pick right back up to their feisty encounters. Grace has finally come to terms that her ailing father might know more about Cole's twin sister's death than she thought. When she hesitantly goes to Cole with this information, he is more determined than ever to find out what happened to Cass. Even if that means working up close and personal with the beautiful Dr. Hunter.
Lines are crossed, a connection grows, and an intense chemistry burns brighter. Before you know it, Cole and Grace's sarcastic and humorous banter turns into something so much more intense, raw, and steamy. Grace needs to know what her father knows, not only for her sanity but for Cole's as well. Cole is fighting a never-ending battle and Grace might just be his white flag.
I am really enjoying where this story is taking me. The author does a fantastic job of giving us an intense romance while keeping us intrigued with this murder mystery of the Cavanaugh sister. With each story they are that much closer at finding out what really happened, and I can't wait to find out how this will end. There is also a great set up to the next story BONDED, which is Blue's story. I'm intrigued by his character the most, and I'm excited to see what direction the author will take with his story.
Overall, BRASH was a very enjoyable read, giving us a deeper look into the mystery behind Cass's murder, as well as, warming my heart with Cole's emotional journey of loss, pain, and regret.

The best part of the series is the on-going mystery of who killed Cassie Cavanaugh. This latest installment focuses on the story of the third Cavanaugh brother, Cole, and Grace Hunter. Cole is the most haunted by the death of his twin. He tries to assuage his guilt for not being there to protect Cass by becoming a Ultimate Fighter. It has given him a purpose. Cole gets an unexpected ally in the search for his sister’s killer by way of Dr. Grace Hunter. She is the local vet, but more importantly she is the daughter of the former Sheriff who originally investigated the murder. He knows something, but is in not mental state to share. Grace is petrified that the investigation will taint her father’s name. In previous books, she has been reluctant to help the brothers, but is now willing to partner with them if only to discover her father’s role in the whole affair. Now as the investigation heats up, we get some new revelations and some serious twists and turns in the story.
Of the three books, I liked the relationship aspect of this book the best. All three brothers have been broken and tortured by the memory of what happened to their younger sister and they have each been partnered with strong, accomplished women – the fierce forewoman, Mac; the savvy business woman, Sheridan; and now veterinarian, Grace. But for me, this relationship has the most chemistry of all three. It’s more of a slow build based on small interactions and minor choices that nurtures the relationship. It helps having him live on her property, but that is the starting point to turn around the awkwardness left behind from former confrontations in the previous books. He’s a big, bad UFC champion who is used to intimidating, but allows her to see his vulnerabilities. She is sweet to his spice. I enjoyed the evolution of this relationship very much.
IN A NUTSHELL: Brash is a fantastic addition. I would consider it the best of the series yet.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cole Cavenaugh: dedicated MMA fighter, disillusioned Cavenaugh brother and devoted twin to Cass. With help from local vet, Grace Hunter, he hopes to unravel the mystery behind his twin’s death and hopefully catch her killer. Little does he expect love to trip him up along the way.
Cole Cavenough has some serious anger issues. Most of those issues revolve around the death of his twin. I enjoyed the idea of his working these issues out via MMA fighting. It was a nice deviation from the norm for those cowboys who give up the ranch life. What I didn’t expect to come across was a character with such a visceral self-hatred. Yes, it’s passed off as anger towards the killer of his twin and all things associated with that incident but there is no doubt, from the first few pages self-loathing rears its ugly head. Then there is the underlying backstory of the betrayal by their father that many of the brothers feel. While I understand the use of this thread to tie all of the books in the series together, I wasn’t thrilled with the way the author presented it. It supported Cole’s occasional lashing out but Blue popping into the story at odd times, consumed by his own issues, was distracting. I had a difficult time connecting with Grace, too. As a female lead she came across as lukewarm, more of a construct just because Cole’s character needed a female counterpart to fit the trope. That is not to take away from a couple of scenes involving Cole and Grace and her dog that warrant a good laugh or two.
Overall, I found the resolution of Cole’s story to be a good ending. There were awkward and forced moments in the book that I stumbled through but it fits into the Cavenough Brother’s/Triple C series. If nothing else it sets the stage for Blue’s story which I’m sure many fans have been anticipating. - Leila
In the second book, we could see the heated chemistry brewing between Grace Hunter and Cole Cavanaugh. These two have so much in common with one another with the loss of a loved one and how it affects their lives. The Cavanaugh brothers believe that the good sheriff knows what happed to their beloved sister and Grace is protecting her father due to his deteriorating mental state.
In third book Laura Wright’s The Cavanaugh Brothers Series. When visiting her father, Grace hears her father remembering and making a comment about Cass. Before Grace can ask more questions, the moment is gone. Grace cannot come to terms that her father was anyway involved or covering up for someone responsible in Cass’s murder. Grace contacts Cole to see if they can work together instead of against one another to find the clues to this mystery.
Cole Cavanaugh is a UVC champion and he continues to use fighting as a way to release the guilt of not being able to protect his twin sister’s life. He know the ex-sheriff has information about this sister death so when he receives Grace’s call he goes to her.
As Cole and Grace works together in finding clues to this case, they are both breaking down each other’s wall they have surrounding their hearts. When Grace finally admits her feelings, Cole leaves to fight his arch enemy in the ring….but will he be able to win this fight and finally let go of the guilt to let the love of Grace heal him.
Cannot wait to see what is in store for Blue since there is a possibility he is with the person who is responsible for Cass’s murder.
I definitely recommend this book. I got an ARC from the Publisher and this is an honest review.
The cage fighting Cavanaugh, Cole, is still in constant turmoil and guilt about his twin's murder and determined not to let anything as silly as that icky love stuff get in the way of vengeance, even if his brothers have both gone soft in the head and googley in the eyes!
Or that's what he reckons, anyway...
So we had hints about the chemistry between Grace and Cole in the last book and now we get to see that all play out! Yay! Due to a series of fortunate events, Cole and Grace end up spending some nice quality time together at Grace's house - just long enough for her to realise that big, scary Cole isn't so big and scary after all. Especially once she agrees to start helping rather than hindering his attempts to find answers about Cass's murder.
The romance, while sweet and very enjoyable, suffers slightly in comparison to the last two couples, coming together quite late on in the book. But what we lose in romance stuff we more than make up for in progress on the Cass situation, with a couple of very significant developments and a very intriguing set up for the next book, which I'm assuming will be Blue's!
Overall, another great read!
4 Stars ★★★★ A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fantastic continuation to the series. The loss of his twin sister years ago cut Cole deep. His guilt for not protecting her has added the fuel that's been burning the fire in his gut all these years. More clues are discovered through old newspaper photographs and the incoherent mumblings of the aging sheriff. Cole discovers the town vet is hiding more than a few secrets. She's got the spine of steel to go head to head with this stubborn fighter and makes him realize that you really can go home again.
One of my favorite quotes from this book: "I am a doctor." You're a vet," he countered. She lifted her chin. "And you act like an animal most of the time, so I'd say it's a match made in heaven."
I highly recommend this series and can't wait to read what happens next with Blue and cowgirl. I received an ARC from the Publisher and this is an honest review.
Cole is my favorite in this series!:) His book is full of emotions and pain..but also the healing of love.I am already looking forward the next book.Laura is the Queen of Cliffhangers! Oh my! I did not see that coming...I first thought another was the killer. And now I have to wait until September 2015 before I get more answers.I want to give Brash more than five stars!!!
I got an ARC from the Publisher and this is an honest review.
Laura has done it again!! In the third installment of the Cavanaugh Brothers, Brash tells the story of Cole. When we met Cole in the first book, I knew he would be my favorite. I had to wait until Laura decided to write his story and I wasn't disappointed. Cole is hard, soft, and a tortured soul that needs a certain woman to understand and love. Get this book you won’t be disappointed.
This is my favorite so far I loved the other ones, but Cole is so sweet and sensitive, even tho he tries to hide under the pain of loosing his twin, Grace helps him find himself. getting out the best in him. MUST READ SERIES...
