Kaitlin
On the surface, I had perfected my disguise. I would stay home, take care of the house, and play the role of a doting wife. And although things weren’t perfect, I made them appear they were. I’d conceal the bruises, make up stories for the tears, and always keep the truth of what happened behind closed doors with my husband to myself.
Until her.

Nora saw through my charade and woke something inside me I didn’t even know existed. Being with her is wrong, and the feelings I’m developing are even worse, but how do I say no to someone that
makes me feel so alive?

Nora
Moving to the sleepy suburbs was the change I feel I needed after the military.
I’d settle in, work at my brother's tattoo shop, and try to remember what life was like before, all while appeasing my therapist. What I wasn’t expecting though was Kaitlin. I could tell there was more to her than she said when she came to welcome me to the neighborhood, but I never expected the skeletons she would lay at my feet. I know she’s off-limits and I’m no home-wrecker, but my feelings for her are impossible to ignore.

I absolutely love Nora and Kaitlin together! They're so cute and their jagged edged fit together so well; they're precious!

I'm really glad that DJ let Katie take that extra step and save herself instead of Nora or Mac doing it for her. While I love a knight in shining armour (dog tags, in this case), it was so important for Katie's character to take that last step herself. She needed to do that so she could fully move on from her situation and grow as a person, and I'm so happy that DJ gave her that!

I enjoyed Nora a lot as well. She was a solid character with a great but tragic backstory. I do wish that we'd have gotten to know more about her service and the situation that caused her discharge, but I'm happy with her character and what I know of her. I love her brother, Mac, also, and really want to be his friend.

Remnants was a quick read but it sucked me in and I had a really good time reading it, especially after a certain someone got their just desserts!

D.J. Krimmer was one of my most read authors of last year; reading the entire Hel’s Ink series that I fell in love with. I am a huge fan of her realistic characters who embrace what makes them human be it past traumas, disabilities or real life situations. Remnants is a dark sapphic novella.

The focus of the book is Kaitlin and Nora. Kaitlin, on the surface, has the perfect life, but it hides a horrible secret. She works very hard to hide the bruises and the emotional wounds. Nora, prior military and an amputee, moved to the suburbs to try and heal from both the physical and mental trauma she has endured. What she didn’t expect was Kaitlin. Their instant chemistry was mutual and could put everything at risk.

Domestic Abuse is hard to read because its a horror that happens daily. These monsters are very real. At least in this story, Kaitlin had Nora. I loved Nora’s resilience and how protective she was of Kaitlin. I loved Kaitlin’s evolution while she gained the strength to fight back.

Thanks to D.J. Krimmer for gifting me an eARC of Remnants. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This audiobook/novella was a great way to start PRIDE month! There was a lot of raw emotion, pain and trauma packed into this sapphic romance. Katie's life with a judgemental family and a loveless, controlling and sometimes violent marriage just broke my heart. Then Nora who endured judgement from her father and now suffered from PTSD as a decorated, disabled Army veteran, stole my heart. When Nora moves in next door the attraction is instant for both of them but there is so much at stake and their love is forbidden. It is an amazing story of survival and overcoming adversity with a sweet HEA!
As the mom of two amazing humans who fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella this book truly touched me. I would never judge my children for who they love. Love is love no matter what it looks like ❤️🏳‍🌈
Thank you Blue Nose Audio for the ALC of this amazing audiobook! Rose Dioro and Lucy Rivers brought these characters to life with such passion that I felt a gamut of emotions.

I absolutely devoured this book. This book may be short, but there was no loss of heartbreaking moments for these two. Nora and Kaitlin’s journey to a HEA is hard fought, but they come out better than ever.

🖤Sapphic romance
🖤Dark novella
🖤Neighbors to lovers

Kaitlin (Katie) is married to an absolute monster. James treats her like garbage, makes her feel awful about herself, manipulates her, and gaslights her constantly. And she has dealt with it for years, until her new neighbor brings the light back into her life.

I absolutely loved how these two were complete opposites, but their attraction and chemistry just proved how they were meant to be! I loved the loveable Sam and Mack too!

This book may be short, but it packs an emotional punch.

Rose Dioro and Lucy Rivers were literal perfection in this one! They represented both characters and voiced their true selves. Their voices really kept me engaged

Thank you to Blue Nose Audio for the ALC.

Remnants is a sapphic novella that's a forbidden romance about survival and secrets. Kaitlin is a devoted wife, but she hides the truth about her marriage and the bruises on her skin. When she meets Nora, she sees behind Kaitlin's facade and shatters it. Nora makes Kaitlin want things she didn't think she could ever have. Despite Nora keeping her distance, she can't seem to walk away from Kaitlin.

DJ Krimmer does it again. Remnants didn't disappoint. Make sure to check triggers and content warnings before reading. The story was fast paced. There's insta lust between Nora and Kaitlin and the sexual tension was palpable. I loved that Nora wanted to be her support and protect her. I also loved that Kaitlin eventually stands up for herself and is more brave. I loved seeing her character growth.

As for the audiobook narration, it's amazing! Performed in duet by Rose Dioro and Lucy Rivers. They were perfect as Kaitlin and Nora. Lucy conveyed Kaitlin with a soft, delicate tone. She captured Kaitlin's meekness and fear. Rose conveyed Kaitlin with a more confident tone that was serious, but playful too. They exuded their characters personalities and the epilogue was beautiful!!

Audiobook coming soon!

Thank you to @bluenoseaudio for my ALC and for the opportunity to review and listen.

Remnants by DJ Krimmer

🖤 Survivor x Protector
🖤 Butch/Femme
🖤 Trauma & Healing
🖤 Forbidden, but meant to be

I’ve been wrecked once again in the best way. Only 118 pages and somehow I felt everything. DJ Krimmer’s writing is pure emotion on paper—like I swear I could feel every flicker of fear, hope, lust, and love in my chest.

It follows Kaitlin, who’s stuck in a terrifying marriage playing the part and Nora, an ex-military tattoo artist just trying to keep to herself. Watching their worlds collide and unravel had me wanting to keep reading. Their bond felt so raw and real

Both Kaitlin and Nora have been through it—like seriously heavy, heartbreaking stuff—but the way they find each other and fight their way toward something safe and real?? Ugh. It’s raw. It’s healing. It’s steamy as hell. And it’s so beautifully written.

⚠️ It’s a dark read with serious trigger warnings—so definitely check those before diving in. But if you can handle the weight, this novella will stay with you. I felt every page.

Remnants might be short, but it hits deep.

Another amazing book written by DJ Krimmer. Wow, this one was HEAVY, but so damn good. My heart absolutely broke for Katie, over and over again. I love Nora, Sam, and Mac so much, and I am forever thankful Nora moved in across from Katie and got her out of the horrible situation she was in. My goodness, that epilogue was everything!!! 10/10, but please read the triggers before you jump into this one because it was very heavy.

If DJ writes it, I’m going to read it! This was my first ever sapphic romance and I was so excited to pop that cherry.

There’s just something about the way DJ writes her characters that just hit the spot. Kaitlin and Nora have such a fast connection to each other.

I just loved the story as a whole and I’m so happy and honored to be on DJs team.

🎧⭐️ALC Review⭐️🎧
Overall Thoughts: I went into this book blindly and requested the ALC solely based on the fact that it was written by DJ. I have listened to most of her audiobooks, and they all are spectacular. The writing is amazing, and the voices match their characters so well. I enjoy FF and MM in my books, but they tend to be part of a harem, and not the main focus of the story, just preference, but this book touches on so many raw emotions, I don’t know how DJ crammed it into a 3.5-hour book. Rose did an amazing job as the bada$$ ex-soldier who moves in next door to her Stepford housewife neighbor who has been hiding many secrets, voiced by Lucy. The way these two play off each other is engaging, entertaining, and incredibly deep. I’m so glad I grabbed this book and if you like characters with dark pasts and true human emotions, this book will suck you and spit you out in the best way possible.

NOTE: This is a dark romance, so please check the TWs and CWs before diving into this book

Narration: Duet narration, first-person present tense, multiple-POV with flashbacks

Tropes: dark sapphic relationship, married FMC, @busive spouse, traumatic pasts, ex-soldier, PTSD, amputee rep, cheating, religious, anxiety/depression, mention of religious conversion camps, fat phobia, r@pe, threats of animal harm

Overall: 4.5
Spice: 3
Humor: 1.5
Drama: 4
Darkness: 3.5
Narration: 5

June is trapped in an @busive, loveless marriage. Needing to be the perfect wife to a top doctor, but nothing is ever good enough for him. One afternoon June notices a new neighbor moving in and welcomes her to the neighborhood.

Nora is the complete opposite of the sweet, mild mannered, prim and proper neighbor, but she is instantly attracted to her and invested in getting to know her better. While June does everything to try and fight her attraction to Nora, it is a losing battle.

As the two get closer and learn more about each other and the traumas they lived through, they rely on each other to get through the trials that await them. Will their new love be enough to save them both, or will it be their downfall?

Remnants is a dark(ish) sapphic novella that totally sucked me in from the start. Nothing too wild content-wise, but definitely check the trigger warnings first just to be safe.

The story follows Kaitlin and Nora, and whew...DJ does not waste time getting into it. Kaitlin seems like she has this perfect suburban life, but behind the scenes, she’s dealing with some really heavy stuff. Then along comes Nora, who moves in across the street. She’s a former soldier, an amputee, and she’s got her own past she’s trying to heal from. What she doesn’t see coming? Kaitlin.

The second they meet, there’s this immediate, powerful connection. You can feel the tension and chemistry between them, but there’s also so much weight to it because of everything they’ve both been through.

Reading about domestic abuse is never easy, but DJ handles it with so much care and honesty. It’s real, it’s raw, and it makes Kaitlin’s journey even more powerful. Watching her slowly reclaim her voice and fight for herself was so emotional. And Nora? Ugh, I adored her. She’s strong, protective, and just so gentle with Kaitlin...it was everything.

Even though it’s a novella, it packs a serious emotional punch. And the epilogue?? Full-on cheesy grin moment. It’s the kind of ending that leaves your heart full and makes you believe in healing and love, even after the darkest stuff.

Also, the audiobook, it may be short, but it is so well done. Lucy Rivers and Rose Dioro didn’t just read the book, they lived it. The emotion they brought to every line made it feel like I was right there with Kaitlin and Nora. Just...wow.

If you’re into audiobooks, definitely give this one a listen. The story is already intense and beautiful, but the narration seriously takes it to another level.

I want more Nora & Kaitlin

DJ Krimmer delivers a beautifully written sapphic romance in Remnants. The novella follows Kaitlin, a woman trapped in a cold and abusive marriage to a plastic surgeon who controls every aspect of her life. We meet her on the day of her wedding, where mention of a past indiscretion with another woman lingers in her mind, a hint of the desires she’s long suppressed. Her family is unaccepting of who she truly is. She is sadly forced into this unhappy marriage.

Enter Nora, a former army soldier and Kaitlin's new neighbor. From the moment they meet, there’s an instant attraction, a quiet understanding between them. And Kaitlin’s husband is quick to grow suspicious. The tension is palpable, and the “touch her and d1e” trope plays out beautifully as Nora stands as a stark contrast to the life Kaitlin has been forced into—one of strength, acceptance, and the kind of love Kaitlin has been denied for too long.
While Remnants delivers a compelling and emotional romance, I couldn’t help but want more. The story is stunning, but its short length leaves so much unexplored—deeper character development, richer backstories, and an even more intense build-up of their love. This book had all the makings of a full-length novel that could have been truly unforgettable.
That being said, Remnants is a beautifully written book I just wish it didn’t end so soon. I want more Nora & Kaitlin!

This was my very first sapphic romance and what a way to start!

One of my favorite things about DJ Krimmer’s writing is how grounded and believable everything always feels. Remnants is no exception. My heart was in my throat the entire time for Katie… everything she endured, from the brainwashing to the abuse and gaslighting, was so painfully real and handled with care and authenticity. And then there’s Nora, a war hero living with a disability and carrying her own emotional scars. Watching these two women find solace, safety, and strength in each other was absolutely beautiful.

Now let’s talk about the audiobook because… WOW.
Lucy Rivers and Rose Dioro delivered a performance that was nothing short of phenomenal. Their emotional range is incredible… every sigh, every moment of fear or tenderness, every line delivered with so much nuance that it felt like I was living inside the story. They didn’t just read the characters, they became them. The pain, the longing, the quiet moments of connection it was all there, layered and raw and real.

For a short novella, this story takes you through all the feelings, and the narrators made sure I felt every single one. Absolutely stunning work from start to finish.

This was a wonderful yet heartbreaking story and I loved everything about it!!! My heart literally hurt for all Nora and Kaitlin had been through, though they had different trauma they both suffered greatly.

I loved Nora! I think I would marry her if I could. She was down to earth and so resilient. I loved her attitude and her unwillingness to back down. I also loved how much she cared for everyone around her and her love of dogs is a huge plus.

I felt so bad for Katie, abused her whole life and still such a bright light. She was so sweet and trying so hard to do the right thing. She deserves the world and my heart went out to her.

I hated James on Katie's behalf but when he went after Sam, he deserved to go! I haven't despised a character like that in a long time. So kudos to DJ for doing such a good job at writing a despicable character.

This story was so well written. I was immediately enamored by the characters and didn't want to put it down. I felt like I was right there in the book with them, feeling everything they felt. It was a rush and I enjoyed every minute in this world. I would definitely recommend it!!

This one was such a fast and GREAT READ! Just be ready and check your triggers unless you can skip that because wow this one is a heavy book but is just so amazing. Katie stole my heart but it was so broken for her as well. I was definitely vocally reading this one. Meaning the gasps were loud and I was telling Katie so many times to just leave. Nora was everything! I’m so glad that they were able to finally get Katie to safety even though it got a bit unhinged. He so deserves it. I highly recommend this one!!

This has a lot of emotions packed into such a quick read. I loved it!

My heart broke for Kaitlin and the things she experienced. To grow up the way she did was heartbreaking but then to end up with that nightmare of a husband. I’m so glad she ended up meeting Nora. When Nora moves to the neighborhood everything changes. Suddenly there’s someone there to notice the things nobody else does, and not only does she notice but boy does she get mad, and rightfully so. Nora also has her own challenges. After something happened to her and her squad while she was deployed Nora hasn’t been the same since. With Nora’s arrival to the neighborhood comes changes for Kaitlin that carry the possibility of living a life where she can be true to herself but at what cost?

While there are some very tough moments in the story, please check content warnings, there were also beautiful moments of love and acceptance and people blossoming into their true selves. I loved the dynamic between Nora and Kaitlin and how supportive they are with each other right from the beginning.

✔Sapphic Book Bingo Challenge 2024 🌈✨: Main Board - Character With a Disability

4 stars. Minus the rushed ending everything else about this was great and I would recommend it if you’re wanting a dark sapphic romance. Katie is in an abusive marriage with her jackass husband and she ends up falling for her neighbor Nora. Please heed the trigger warnings in the front because this is heavy. Both women have a lot going on. Katie’s awful marriage and Nora’s PTSD from being in the military. I thought both women were so incredibly strong but I especially loved the way Katie’s character developed in the end as she was able to find her strength. The romance was great as they had wonderful chemistry and I loved how protective Nora was of Katie. It was definitely swoon worthy. This was emotional and sexy and I really enjoyed it.

“There may be a day when I need you to see me.”
I believe that DJ Krimmer can do no wrong and everything she writes makes me feel ALL the feels. Remnants was no different. It packs a powerful punch for a short story. With descriptions so detailed I can SEE the characters like they are in the room with me, it’s a beautiful story of regaining your power and finding your place, alone and together. It’s a story of two very broken women who make a complete puzzle when their broken pieces, their remnants, are fitted together. The epilogue might be the most rewarding epilogue ever. Lucy Rivers and Rose Dioro bring the raw emotion and tender feelings to this duet audio production that were vital to tell this story. Top-notch performances for a top-notch story.

Remnant is a sapphic romance by DJ Krimmer.

This has a lot of triggering moments so please read the trigger warnings before reading.

This story deals with domestic violence and it is written in such a way that you can fully envision it and feel the pain Kaitlin goes through. She has been forced to hide who she truly is and isn't able to fully embrace life because of this. I was glad she was able to escape, if only for a few hours, to her neighbour Nora who showed her true friendship and love.

Kaitlin and Nora's chemistry is hot from the start. Kaitlin may be married to James but that is definitely not who she should be with. He is the worst.

There's banter, chemistry, spice, suspense, and the storyline is so freaking good. There's growth in both our FMCs and I loved reading about it. The book moves quick which makes it a fast read because of everything that is happening. I didn't want to put this book down when I started it!

Wow! I have loved everything that DJ has wrote but, this book absolutely took my breath away.

This is a Sapphic romance and DJ portrays that wonderfully. DJ has a way of making you as the reader feel everything that is going on in the story. There are some heavy topics in this, so you will want to read the TW before jumping into this.

DJ has an amazing ability to really incorporate real life situations, illness, and people into her stories, and that will draw you in and have you wanting more. I can't wait to read whatever she comes out with next!

This novella seriously brings out all the feels. Absolutely check your trigger warnings, this one is heavy. The relationship between Nora and Katie is so good, and you can feel all the pain and trauma they go through. Anxiety & Depression, Military PTSD, DV, forbidden love.

Rose and Lucy did such an incredible job with this audio and really brought these characters to life.

This was a cute short read...
The FMC Nora is a masc presenting veteran and the FMC Kaitlin is a fem in a very religious family therefore she is in the closet. The book is short and sweet, Kaitlin is living a life she hates married to a man who abuses her until nora moves in next door and they fall in love which ultimately ends in them falling in love and kaitlin saving her from the life she isnt meant to live.
