*sigh* I really loved this book. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. I'll even go as far as to say, I loved this more than I loved the first book, and I really loved the first book!

When I started this, the fact Daniel had a boyfriend, albeit an abusive one, had me worried about him and Ben getting together. But I shouldn't have worried because the boyfriend became an ex, and he was definitely an asshole. And I think that's putting it mildly. But anyway, that worry was put to bed after he became an ex and he stayed an ex, which was something I did like.

The relationship between Daniel and Ben was one that took time. Daniel had to get past what his ex and done to him and the emotions he left him with. And Ben stepped up to help him with those emotions, and that scene really stood out to me. Well, there were a few scenes that stood out, but that was one that really proved how much Ben cared, in my mind at least. It was because of what Ben did, or allowed Daniel to do, that Daniel saw he needed to talk to someone about what had happened to him.

Daniel's parents were another part of the story I loved. Supportive parents are always a bonus for me, especially when the reaction is like Daniel's father (*pouts* which we didn't actually see, we were just told about it). I also liked their anger when they found out what happened. It was more proof that they loved their son.

We heard a little bit about Adam and Logan, the couple from the first book, and a couple that haven't had their book yet, but really need to get their act together. Yes, people who've read either of these books will know who I'm talking about. But I'm also excited to read book 3 and to meet the new guys in that book.

You know what you get with one of R.J. Scott's stories and this was a good example for that. Nice, easy, a bit of drama, but not too much, on the other hand not many surprises. I liked it, but I think it won't stay with me for long.

Pretty neat for a short read. A story about Daniel, a guy in an abusive relationship for six long years. I found out that for such a character, I can't analyze too much on his state of mind and why did he stayed with his abusive piece of shit boyfriend for so long, because there isn't a straight answer to that. I definitely sympathize with his predicament and I'm glad he finally realize how unhealthy it is and decided to seek help. The help comes in the form of sexy bodyguard, Ben Collins.

Oh Ben... who wouldn't love this man who is so patient, protective and giving. He basically can stand between Daniel and his troubles and say 'over my dead body'. Readers who love the whole knight in shining armor saving damsel in distress, in this case, the damsel is a sexy little rocker, this might be the book for you.

Excellent addition to the Bodyguards Inc. series, The Ex Factor had plenty of hurt/healing/comfort to make me a happy camper. MC Daniel Lincoln is the victim of domestic abuse and big, burly Bodyguards Inc. employee MC Ben Collins is his own personal hero, swooping in to save the day in the best possible way.

Recommended for fans of the series and can be read as a stand-alone without a problem. I'm excited for the next one!

Great premise, but I felt absolutely nothing for the characters. Especially Ben, who was just an empty shell. He hardly even said a word.

This was a great read! I've been waiting patiently (or maybe not so patiently, if I'm honest) for this release for quite a while, and IT FELT LIKE A LIFETIME I TELL YOU! But good things really do come to those who wait, and The Ex Factor certainly didn't disappoint. As many people know, I am a massive fan of RJ's writing. She always delivers my absolute favourite things in every one of her books - cute couples and sweet romances with an entertaining and emotional story, as well as wonderful writing and, above all else, a happy ending. I've got to have my HEA and no-one writes them quite like RJ does.

The Ex Factor was a truly lovely book. Book 1 in the Bodyguards Inc. series holds a very special place in my heart. If I remember correctly, I rated it 4 or 4.5 stars, but thoroughly enjoyed it. I read it on holiday with my Grandad not long after it had been released, and so I link that holiday and that book together in my head, and it makes me smile when I think about it. I was intrigued by the secondary characters in that book, and was very excited to read more about the other bodyguards at BI. This book... well, I was so excited to finally be able to download it. I was slightly apprehensive to start, because I always get so worried that I've hyped a book up too much in my head and that I'll be left disappointed. But I really really was not disappointed here at all. The story had me hooked from the start, and as is true for all of RJ's books, I fell head over heels in love with the MCs almost instantly.

There was an aspect of hurt/comfort here, which is a theme I really enjoy reading. One of the MCs was also a musician - yet another thing I love! The book ticked so many boxes for me. The story progressed well - it didn't feel rushed or stilted, but moved along at just the right pace to see Ben and Daniel's relationship grow into something beautiful. Ben was wonderful and such a nice, genuine man. I really loved Daniel, flaws and all, and my heart broke that he couldn't see how much he was worth. He kept putting himself down, settling for things, not seeing how talented and strong he was. Cam... don't even get me started on that a-hole. I wanted to kick him up and down the M1, the bloody bastard. I was glad to see that he got exactly what he deserved in the end.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to fans of the genre, or fans of romance in general. In fact, I'd recommend ALL of RJ's books. Especially if you're a hopeless romantic like me who has to have their happy ending.

Oh, and that cover... it's gorgeous! Again, that's something I always say about RJ's books. Gorgeous writing, gorgeous characters, and gorgeous covers. Just perfect :)

And.... I NEED A ROSS AND KYLE BOOK IN MY LIFE. I think waiting for that could possibly destroy me. But I just know it'll be worth it. So long as they get their much deserved HEA, anyway ;)

Instead of a review, I'm just going to spew out random thoughts.

Good if predictable plot and book was the right length.

Excellent pacing. I couldn't put the book down.

Perfect hurt/comfort/abuse/angst for me. Love this stuff.

A house was referred to as being built in the late 1900's. Um that's only a couple of decades. Who says that about a house that's recent? Don't you usually say something like, "The house was built twenty years ago"?

I love that Muse, my favorite band (right now), is mentioned several times.

The sex scenes were hot.

I loved how co-dependence issues and rescuer syndrome were discussed, including whether Daniel wanted Ben for the right reasons.

The characters were interesting. Both MCs were wonderful. And although pretty much all the characters (except the bad guy) were likeable enough, there was strife between a couple of them, so they weren't all perfect. I loved that Daniel wasn't the very best at what he does just extremely good.

What is with people thinking 5'10" is short? It's the average for most industrialized countries. It;s actually half an inch above the average height for a male in his age group in England where the book takes place.

At one point a short woman was referred to as a "spitfire." That drives me up the wall. I also wished there was another action scene at the end but that's just me.

It was cool that Daniel was encouraged to get counseling and to shop around for the right counselor. So often in hurt/comfort books therapists are seen as negative, even evil, and/or the MC goes to the first one they can find.

This was another example of why R.J. Scott is one of my favorite authors. The books may not be fine literature, but they're fun, entertaining, and always work for me.

What a surprise!!!!

A bodyguard in Xfactor tvshow?? I thought this book would be light and a bit superficial ~ BUT has been just THE OPPOSITE!

This story is heartwarming, cute, super romantic and speaks about hard issues like the physical and psychological abuse of one partner to another in a relationship.

Ben is a gentle giant ex army bodyguard working at xfactor tvshow watching after one of the jury members and meets Daniel, one of the contestants, just discovering that the man have bruises with a lot pain and he clearly is scared of something. Ben finally suspects about Daniel´s boyfriend, but the man is in denial and refuses any help.

Months later, Ben received a strange message asking for his help … ♥

I liked this one even more than book one. It touches on a serious issue - that of domestic abuse - but treats it with empathy and understanding.

Lincoln needed Ben, not to do things for him, but to give him an anchor from which he could test his strengths and courage after leaving his abusive ex.

I liked the setting, an X-Factor alike TV show and there was still the same hallmark quiet humour found in RJ Scott's books.

So far this series is shaping up to be a highly enjoyable romp.

2nd reading

Apparently I read this sometime in 2016. I remember none of it. Not even an inkling 🙈 perhaps it warranted 4 stars back in 2016 but after having some truly spectacular reads in the years since then, I can give this at best a 2.5 stars. 3 stars rounded up. It wasn’t bad, just I’ve read better stories and this was a tad bit cliche 😬

I had already determined this author isn’t right for me but this was free so I tried her again. Nope. I was correct, we are not a good fit. Too much OTT drama, too many tears, too much small guy needs protecting by big guy. DNF @36%.

I don’t normally watch reality TV shows, but The Ex Factor, and especially the behind the scenes aspects of this fictional talent show, really grabbed my attention and pulled me in. Don’t expect that I will be watching TV any more than usual, but if I happen to flip through the channels and see a reality musical talent show, I am sure I will be thinking of Daniel and his sad story.

Daniel is musically gifted and is one of three remaining talents on The Ex Factor when he meets Ben, a bodyguard assigned to the show. Ben finds Daniel to be an exceptional artist and very cute, but steers clear because he knows he is in a committed relationship. What he doesn’t realize immediately is that that relationship is abusive and extremely toxic. So much so that Daniel has to hide his bruises by wearing concealing clothing and doing his own make-up. He comes off as a diva when, in reality, he can barely move because of his injuries.

I was never happier to see an ex-boyfriend get the boot as much as I was in this case. Daniel was so mentally and physically abused that I didn’t think he had it in him, but he did it, and for a while, he is fine. Sadly, he is too trusting and easily falls back into his ex’s clutches. This is where Ben comes to his rescue. Ben suspected all wasn’t well during the show and passed his card on to Daniel in case he ever needed his help. When he never called, Ben assumed that Daniel was fine.

The relationship between Ben and Daniel was really sweet. Ben is a big ol’ lug who is tired of people only wanting to sleep with him because he is a large man but could care less about him as a person. He doesn’t have that with Daniel, and the two of them slowly form a relationship based on mutual attraction and genuine caring. Ben is super protective, although he doesn’t baby him but allows Daniel to regain his dignity and become the man he was meant to be.

It is never easy to read about domestic violence, and I’m sure that it’s extremely hard for an author to write about it. But in this case, RJ Scott did a great job of bringing this sad situation to life with respect and emotion. I love reading about difficult life issues and watching the hero lovingly bring the victim back to life. In this case, Ben was the perfect hero for Daniel. He was the man Daniel needed to help him break out of his shell and show the world he had it what it takes to be successful.

The question that hovered when I first reading this series was whether Bodyguard Inc. made up of gay staffers. Let's see: Kyle, the boss owner's unrequited love to his OCD PA/office manager, Ross; then the bodyguards appeared so far - Adam from Bodyguard To A Sex God, Benjamin the hero of this story, and their colleague Michael - none of them straight. Yet, so far there's no mentioning if this was the case. It could be interesting to have a book of how this agency first established - in following books, perhaps?

As for The Ex-Factor... I like this book. I think. The timespan, from when Ben first met Daniel to the moment the story picked up was longer, as in months - not days.
There's some loopholes in details, which I'm not sure it's Daniel's unclear account due to being under influenced or editing-related... /shrugs/

I don't have much patience with weak/victimized character, but for once I sympathized with Daniel for what he'd been through. And I got why Ben "done an Adam" (yep, what Kyle said when a bodyguard got emotionally attached to his charge) because... This book wouldn't exist otherwise, right!?

The plot was pretty predictable, the bad ex found to be much more evil, finally got arrested and sentenced to jail. Our MCs lived happily ever after with the support of loving family and friends. Nothing extraordinary there, but entertaining enough.

The "stapler war" between Ross and Adam that carried forward to this book is hilarious though. I hope Ms. Scott would wrote story about Kyle and Ross in the future.
In the mean time I shall move on to the next book in the series...

Bodyguards have all kinds of different assignments, I guess, and the one in this book definitely sounded like a more unusual one. Ben is a former soldier and has worked for Bodyguards Inc. for a few years when he happens to work at a televised talent show and runs into Daniel. Daniel is a rock singer and ends up in third place, but there is something about him that has Ben not just drawn to him but worried about his safety. But Daniel is not willing to open up, and Ben withdraws, leaving his number. Months later he gets a call, and this time he will not take no for an answer, especially because Daniel is finally ready to acknowledge the truth of his situation: he has been in an abusive relationship for years but is now ready to get out.

What follows is a touching story about Daniel dealing with his shame and guilt as he gains back control over his life. Ben's protective instincts come to the fore, but he remains professional when needed, even as he slowly admits to more than professional interest in Daniel.

I you like heartbreaking stories about men who pick themselves up and go on despite what they have suffered, and if you're looking for a read that deals with the real issue of abuse, yet manages to be a touching and sweet love story, then you will probably like this novel

Don't let how short it is fool you!!

It packs a punch and worth everyyyy penny!!!!!!

I LOVE m/m genre, and this author sealed it in less than 200 pages.

WOW!

We have become so greedy with the page count of a book and not giving the shorter stories a fair shot. I am one of those people. I have passed up too many good stories because I thought the author couldn't possibly feed my emotional needs that I get from a longer written book!

This story. This amazing journey between Ben and Daniel held more emotions, more intensity, more love, more intimacy than some books that are 300plus pages. And, it wasn't filled with bs page-filler. No unnecessary angst. No page wasting just to prolong a story. I was hooked from page 1. I smiled. I cringed. I cried. I smiled again and then my heart was full. I didn't feel like more was needed. RJ Scott gave me everything I needed in this short, beautiful journey (yes, a journey, not just a book).

Tears and Smiles.

Well done RJ Scott. You have made a fan!!

Oh this author is good at tugging on my heartstrings. It didn't take me long before I wanted to protect Daniel as much as Ben. I appreciate when authors include family and friends in books not just people that might be the next couple, I feel it gives the book more depth and brings more realism to the story. Daniels family was so great once they knew what was going on.

Daniel's emotions are so very real especially his shame at what he sees as being less than a man. Ben is great at showing Daniel support but allowing him to stand on his own. It had to be very hard for Ben to step back once you find out about his past. The slow build to the relationship in this story was so needed and really gave you time to fall in love with the characters on their own and then together.

The teasers we get every time that Ross and Kyle are on the pages are fabulous. I know I am not the only one looking forward to their book and getting the story behind Bodyguards, Inc.

If you love to read about strong, protective men, then this is a series that should be on your TBR list!

This author seems to have a predilection for writing books that tackle serious, weighty subjects but are soft romances. (I say, after reading two books by this author.) This works moderately well for me. The romance in this book is nice and soft and sweet. It's also sort of slow burn and sort of not. I mean, they take until the 60% mark to kiss on the lips (prior to that there was one affectionate head kiss) but they are having sex by the 70% mark.

To me the first is completely explainable. Daniel just got out of an abusive relationship - in fact, is actually still in one at the start of the story. He doesn't need passion right away, he needs companionship, friendship that grows into something more. This part is lovely. But I'm not the sort that thinks slow burn ends with the first kiss. After that kiss, the relationship moves very fast, in my opinion, and, after how long it took to get there, was very surprising. And, I cannot deny, somewhat unwanted. (I think they have sex three times in thirty percent. But I did finish this book two days ago, so that memory might be a little...inaccurate.)

I have...very mixed feelings for this book and...am still not sure this is an author for me.

Being the bodyguard for one of the judges of a reality based star search challenge, Ben has seen more sex than danger happening behind closed doors. When he finds Daniel obviously in pain in the dark in a closet he knows that something bad has happened. But Daniel does not want his help and he just wants to come in third and finish the show. With one chance phone call Ben finds Daniel in worse shape than before and he vows to help him get away from his abusive partner. Good intentions can only go so far when feelings become involved. Can Ben protect Daniel while keeping his heart out of the picture? Or will this allow Daniel to find something good out of the bad? Highly emotional and a fabulous read. The reader instantly falls in love with Daniel and only wants him to get his HEA.

4.5 STARS
Reviewed by Vicki

Daniel Lincoln is a potential star, with a wonderful voice and rocker personality, and is making his way through a singing competition that could be his big break. Unfortunately he has some baggage in the form of his abusive boyfriend, Cam. Daniel has been abused both physically and mentally for close to six years, hiding his abuse and subsequent pain pill addiction. He knows he won’t win the competition, but will be happy with third place and a record contract, but Cam is not happy and beats the hell put of him the night before the final performance. Daniel is hiding in a room back stage trying to get his shit together when he is found by Ben the bodyguard.

Ben Collins has been a bodyguard at Bodyguards Inc. (BI) for a few years after serving in the military. He is a big strong man, with a gentle heart. He’s friends with the men he works with, but seems to be a bit of a loner. He’s both annoyed and amused at the antics of the stars he guards, expecially when back stage at a singing competition. He has enjoyed watching Daniel perform though, and is surprised to find him hiding in a back room before the final performance. He suspect Daniel may be in trouble, but thinks it’s drugs not abuse. He helps Daniel back to his room, and slips him a business card and tells him to call if he needs help.

Several month later BI receives a strange message saying Daniel needs help, and off Ben goes to find him. Ben is shocked at the condition he finds Daniel in, and convinces him to go with him, offering him protection until they can sort out what is going on. His story eventually comes out and it is not a good one. Years of abuse and control have left him scared and broke, with Cam holding the purse strings and nearly breaking Daniel’s spirit. Ben can’t give up on Daniel, or the budding feelings he has for him, and sticks around to help.

This is a very good story, but it made me uncomfortable, which is a good thing! I have never been in a relationship like this and have a hard time understanding why someone would stay with an abuser for so many years. Every time I read a book like this, it makes me think, and I try to be a bit more sympathetic toward the victim. On one hand Daniel seems strong, he’s finally reached the end of his rope and is ready to get help and get out. But on the other hand, he stayed with Cam for years, clueless about what he’s done to him financially. Ben steps up to help, trying to stay objective and not get personally involved, but that doesn’t last very long. Daniel appears to need someone to look out for him, and he switches his need to Ben. I wish he had shown a little more strength and not relied so heavily on Ben so soon. Ben is caring and careful, but he hops right in and takes over. Which Daniel needs, but he also needs to rely on himself.

The writing in this book is fantastic, I’ve read RJ’s books for several years and they do really get better each time. This plot wasn’t overly complex, but it was just perfect for the scope of this book. It was a small, intimate story about the struggle of one man to get out of a bad relationship, and the man who helps him and eventually loves him. It didn’t need to be complex, it was just perfect. The bond forming between them was interesting to watch, they would start to get closer than one would pull back, only to try again. There not a lot of sex in this story, honestly more wouldn’t have been appropriate considering the subject. What there was worked very well. Daniel and Ben are good together as a couple, once they work through Daniel’s issues. I liked the addition of Daniel’s parents, he needed support and they gave it. Good plot, good characters, good sex, good ending, just what I want out of a book!

Original Series Review

My Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars

Bodyguards Inc. is a company established by American Kyle Monroe. Bodyguards Adam Freeman, former cop, and Ben Collins, former rugby player and ex soldier, work for the company and take on different jobs to protect those whose lives are being complicated by threats from without.

In the first book, Adam is given the job of protecting pretty boy actor Logan Brady who is being threatened by an unknown stalker fan who cannot seem to differentiate between role play and real life. As the threats escalate from mere letters to the more physical, it is now Adam's job to make sure that no harm touches Logan as he meets and greets his fans in the science-fiction fantasy convention (ComiCon?) being held in London. At first the job is just a job until Logan sets eyes on Adam and knew his day had finally come to decide to out himself and get a chance to happiness.

In the second book, Ben stumbles upon singer contestant Daniel Lincoln. He finds him drugged and beaten but still standing strong. He has a voice Ben fell in love with and actually voted for him in the local TV singing competition. When he gets called a few months later, a call for help from another contestant to check on Daniel, Ben drops everything. Good thing he did for now, Daniel was in bad shape and his ex-boyfriend made sure he not only lose out financially, but emotionally as well.

This series deals with violence and abuse and should have read super drama and all. Not the way author RJ Scott did it though. It is lightly written without too much information dropped into a reader who seeks to relax into a good romance. This actually reads as a thriller/suspense/mystery romance with a little bit of spice between bodyguard and guardee. The men are obviously very attracted to each other and there are times when the instant attraction sort of blurs within the lines of rebound love like in Adam's and Daniel's story. Thankfully, there is no rebound at all. It is just that both Adam and Ben are protectors and they make both Logan and Daniel feel free and safe for the first time.

There is nothing standard in these men either. Adam comes out as a bigger than life bodyguard but he is actually physically shorter than Logan. Ben is a huge guy and is the epitome of a huge bodyguard and yet he is a really gentle giant, exactly what Daniel needed - a trunk he could climb on and feel safe in especially after having been subjected to much abuse.

Both books contain some bits of excitementement that involved violence and then some but again, these were not overwhelming and made these into cozy suspense thrillers instead of full action packed and gory ones.

I saw The Ex Factor title and cover and it jumped right at me. I loved the look, I liked the blurb and best of all, I liked the plot. After reading it, I decided to go ahead and read the first book for I was really curious about Adam and Logan mentioned several times in the second installment. Each book is written as a standalone but this did not stop me from jumping back to the first book for this is clearly a lightly written series to relax and enjoy into despite the subject matter. In the end, I just fell in love with these men and their heroes and I can't wait for when it gets to be Ross' and Kyle's turn.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

4.25

Another fantastic book by R.J. Scott and a great second book in the Bodyguards Inc. Series.

Daniel Lincoln is down to the last three in a televised talent show. Knowing that everyone expects him to take the third position doesn’t matter to Daniel who is pleased to have made it this far. Third place would give him a sense of worth, if only he felt worthy. Third place would give him enough money to get away, if only he was brave enough. Third place would give him back his freedom; if only he was sure he wanted to be free. Daniel is a victim of domestic abuse.

This is a tough little read that packs a punch and deals with a tough and often heartbreaking subject.

Ben works for Bodyguards Inc. and hates the type of job with wannabe, pain in the ass TV starlets....the kind of job he is currently on. When he escapes to a storage closet for a bit of peace he finds Daniel, clearly in pain, hiding there. Daniel is terrified of the huge man but grateful for the help he gives him. As expected Daniel comes in third and the competition is over. Almost as an afterthought Ben gives Daniel a business card with instructions to call him if he ever needs help.

Daniel undoubtedly needs Ben a few months later when he finds himself in a precarious situation in a hotel bathroom. Arriving only just in time, Ben is shocked at what he finds and quickly removes Daniel from imminent danger. Taking Daniel back to his parents home is just the beginning of his recovery as he struggles with his demons.

Daniel is scared, beaten, in pain but this time he is also showing determination and strength and Ben hopes it is enough to keep him away from the ex. Ben is also conscious that he attracted to Daniel but berates himself for what he sees as wildly inappropriate feelings. Little does he know his feelings are reciprocated but first Daniel must start to heal if they are to ever stand a chance at anything more.

This book takes a sensitive look at domestic abuse and recovery from it. It doesn’t sugar coat it but it also doesn’t glamorise it any way. It shows us it is brutal and wrong and often very difficult to walk away from. Well done RJ for another fantastic and hear felt story.

Now about Kyle and Ross...............

On the surface, The Ex Factor could be just another story about a bodyguard that falls in love with his client. Instead of the simple love story, however, this book turns out to be a very deep story about abuse in same sex marriages. There are no on page scenes of the abuse Daniel suffers, but the outcome and the subsequent issues Daniel has to live through are covered very well.

Daniel was competing on a reality TV music show Ben was working on. When Ben finds Daniel secluded in a room and in pain, he has no idea what is truly going on in Daniel’s life, but he offers him help if he ever needs it, and gives him his business card.

Later, when Ben receives a call from another competitor on the show telling him Daniel is in trouble, Ben races to the rescue. What he discovers when he gets to Daniel not only angers him, it makes him feel guilty about everything he missed the last time he saw Daniel.

Ben begins to help Daniel rebuild his life, both professionally and personally. When they begin to grow closer, Daniel feels like he doesn’t have anything to offer Ben, but Ben helps him to see himself as a man no matter what his ex has done to him. Once they get on the right track, their romance is pretty special.

I feel that RJ Scott did a great job of showing the devastation that occurs both during and after living in an abusive relationship. She also showed us that no matter how bad things may seem there is always still a chance at a happily ever after. I loved the way Ben was gentle with Daniel when he needed it, but forceful when he had to be. I can’t recommend this book enough. If I didn’t have a TBR pile a million feet high, I would be rereading this one immediately. The Ex Factor could very well be my favorite RJ Scott book to date. You won’t want to miss this one.

The Ex Factor was a great continuation of the Bodyguards Inc series. I think I particularly enjoyed it because I was drawn in by the abuse theme and appreciated the way it was handled.

The other thing I appreciated was the setting and relevance to current time. Ben is working security for a reality talent show and there are references to the contestants and the panel of judges. It all felt very familiar.

Daniel is a contestant on the show, who has worked his way into the finals. But for all his success with his music, he is not a happy man due to his long term abusive boyfriend. Luckily he has Ben to turn to.

I loved Ben and the way his protective instinct kicked in but more than that, I loved his own vulnerability.
"The men he slept with were within him for his size and his muscles. That wasn't him being prideful, that was just what they told him.

Not one of them actually wanted to talk to him, and only a couple actually wanted to kiss. Ben had top written all over him, but sometimes, just every so often, he wanted something outside the definition placed on him."

I really enjoyed the whole story and the characters and am now looking forward to the next book!

Broken is putting it mildly. Daniel is beyond messed up. When the story opens, like a lot of abuse victims, he’s convinced that Cam loves him but was only upset. I can’t say he really blames himself, which I like about him. From what I can see, Daniel knows that Cam hitting him is wrong, but he remembers the good times and he thinks that making money in his music career can get them to that point again. Not only does he have abuse to deal with, but addiction to pain meds is an issue due to his injuries. He didn’t see it as a problem until Ben said something about it. So yeah, Daniel has his problems but his healing and strength in the end make him that much more lovable.

Ben is Ben. What you see is what you get basically. He’s one of the good guys. He was attracted to Daniel before the encounter in the closet but never said anything and wouldn’t have ever because he was duty bound to never cross the bodyguard/client line. His role in Daniel’s life at first is strictly platonic. He counts himself as a friend and wants nothing more than to make sure Daniel is safe and healthy. But when these two finally get together serious sparks fly. Scott does a great job at shifting their budding friendship into a growing, blooming romance.

Book 2) Love, love, love a big hunky alpha man who can be tender and loving. Ben. Then we have a slimmer in size, rocker/singer, abused man, Daniel. Ben is a bodyguard protecting the contestants in a music show. What he finds is Daniel cowering in a corner, covered in bruises, and terrified. We learn that Daniel's boyfriend, Cam is the abuser, drug pusher, and money thief. After that episode, Ben had not heard from Daniel until his friend called and asked him to help. Ben does just that, helps in a big way. Their journey through the escape and healing is beautiful. R. J. Scott writes a wonderful story of compassion, true love, acceptance, friendship, and understanding. Daniel's parents, Ben and the Bodyguard, Inc. crew are all willing to do whatever it takes to lock up Cam, and get Daniel to a safe place, inside and out. Ben and Daniel are so perfect together, and the growing love is slowly formed and deeply thought-filled. Well done sex scenes. Wonderful story !! ENJOY !!
These are stand alone tales, but richer if you know the previous people.

I thought this book was a really good read and that the Ex-Factor was a great continuation of the Bodyguard series. I thought that this book was very relatable, with the aspect of the reality show.

I really felt for Daniel. Even though he seems to have everything, have his life together, and have success. But at the same time he's dealing with an abusive boyfriend.

I thought Ben was such a sweetheart and at the same time loved his protectiveness. I think he came into Daniel's life just at the right time.

Again I thought this book was a great continuation of the bodyguard series. The author does a great job when pulling emotions from these books. And even though these books may not be my normal genre this author has made me enjoy these books.

I'm giving this book 4 stars out of 5!!!!

The Texas series will always be my favorite from R. J. Scott. But, I love all her books. The second book in the Bodyguard series is no exception. Daniel Lincoln is a singer on a talent contest. Ben Collins is a bodyguard assigned to the show. Ben notices Daniel. Daniel notices Ben, but Daniel has a big secret. Ms. Scott often tackles uncomfortable topics (PTSD and Autism) and she always does it realistically and respectfully. This book was no different. She does a masterful job once more. I loved Ben. He's a big guy but he's really gentle and open to a relationship. I love how he thinks of and talks to Daniel. My heart went out to Daniel. He's so talented and so brave but he has been through so much. I loved their relationship. Another good entry into this series. I hope we get to see a book about Kyle and Ross soon.
