As with most anthologies, some of these stories were better than others. They were all originally published in the early 1900s, so I gave a little slack in consideration of the time period, but the instances of sexism and depictions of animals being killed were enough that I don't want to keep this book in my library. On the plus side, the age of the stories provided an awesome window into figures of speech and ways of writing unique to the period and location in which they were written. Overall, this book was worth the time I spent reading it but not something I'll read again.

Some of these stories were delightful and some were kind of dark. I was surprised. It is always entertaining to read stories about Christmas that I haven't heard before and they were all from the early 1900's or late 1800's.
