From the award-winning author of the Between Boyfriends series comes Spin Off, a new series with familiar characters...
Jan Weston-Montri has had a rough few years. Just as things are feeling settled, she receives the biggest surprise of her life. Her spa business is succeeding, her marriage is solid, but this new shock could threaten the life she's given everything to build.
Dr. Lisa Ellis is wondering at what point her life began to spin off course. Her relationship was going great until she took a job at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Now, she feels like her boyfriend is stringing her along and wonders if she'd be better off without him. Everything little thing drives her crazy, and she misses who she once was. Lisa must figure out how to manage her feelings while planning her best friend's wedding. For the girl who thought she'd marry first, watching everyone else say "I do" is about as painless as a bikini wax.
Becki Ford is getting married! The perky brunette couldn't be happier about tying the knot with the love of her life. Her job as a social worker is rewarding and her newly straightened hair is amazing, but a certain something's missing. It's been three years since she got engaged, and she doesn't think she can wait one day longer to start a family.
Alex Tanner is doing the last thing she expected: living in Los Angeles and studying to take the California bar exam. When she left Houston to play lacrosse at San Diego State University, she assumed she'd return home for law school. Relocating permanently to the left coast was never the plan. But love will do crazy things to a lady, and Alex is deeply in love. Yet as the pressure builds to pass the bar and her nuptials rapidly approach, she begins to question whether this is the life she's meant to lead.'
A revised version of this novel is published as "Aching for You" by SJ Miller
Sárka-Jonae is a novelist, publicist, journalist, and now a columnist for East County Magazine (EastCountyMagazine.org). Her novel writing career began with Between Boyfriends, a romantic comedy novel for women who've been "between boyfriends," which is much cooler than being single. She has recently branched out into writing steamy romance under the name SJ Miller.
Sárka-Jonae is a graduate of Syracuse University. Before writing full-time, she was a personal trainer and massage therapist, helping people tone up, slim down, and chill out. In her free time, SJ loves to dance in flash mobs, in music videos, on speakers, or at home in her underwear. She practices kung fu and yoga, was briefly a Buddhist nun, and travels extensively for "research." She's a huge animal lover and has been vegan since 1999. She's committed to respectfully unveiling the truth about the horrific way factory farms abuse animals. SJ lives in San Diego with a cat and two dogs.
Well I hate to say it because I don't like being negative about a book but this book really left me lacking. I feel like it was a lot of stories thrown together about a group of friends and their relationships...but I never once felt compelled to keep reading. I feel like if I didn't have a personal problem with not finishing a book I wouldn't have continued past the first half. The stories didn't grab me. The parts that started to make me curious cut off without enough detail.
Four friends, four lives. Each in a different place in the romance department. Becky and Alex are lesbians planning their wedding. The story gives the benefit of the actual wedding and the marital bliss that follows. Jan is happily married to a man from Thailand, and Lisa has a relationship with a fellow doctor who lives in another city. They all grew up in different lifestyles but yet they are supportive friends. It's a good story. I enjoyed it.
Minor editing flaws and it jumped around too much for me
I guess this book is really not for me. I wanted to be fair on my scoring so I only gave a 3 stars. There were minor editing issues throughout the book with the reversal of the pronouns that I noticed mostly. The lives of 4 women I can understand but if the 1st part of jumped around so much that I had to go back and read which I never like to do.
This is an erotic contemporary romance, written by Sarka-Jonae Miller, and it's the dazzling story of four women trying to live their dreams. Dreams that are both erotic and tremendously funny. As the author said, this book will take you right back to your honeymoon period. I just loved how the author managed to connect with me as a reader through her words and the wonderful and likable characters she's created. Also, the storyline was rather unique and I really feel like it brought something new to the table.
Can't wait for the next installment in the Spin Off Series!
“Spin off” is an amazing contemporary romance. The story is about four women with different dreams, different lives and at the critical point of making some important changes. The characters are wonderful, likable and very believable. Jan, Lisa, Becki and Alex are a lot of fun and I found myself unable to put the book down. The author Sarka-Jonae Miller has done a great job. The book is very well written and it keeps the reader intrigued and eager for more. I would recommend the book to any person that would like to spend time with a wonderful fun book.
Short, sexy, character-driven adult romance... "Spin Off: Adult Contemporary Romance (The Spin Off Series Book 1)" by Sarka-Jonae Miller is exactly as advertised, a steamy passionate romance. Its lovers are obsessed with one another and, for them, all things come right in the end. Because this book is character-driven, it rises above the din in this crowded genre and becomes something of a 'must read' for those who want a sizzler.
This story is about 4 friends. 2 marrying each other, 1 married and 1 with a steady boyfriend. You read about the wedding, the married couple learning she has a large trust fund coming soon and the girl dating breaks up with the boyfriend. This is book one. As I couldn't figure out who the story was supposed to following I will not be looking into anymore. Waste of my time.
"Spin Off" was a great read that lightened quite a few of my afternoons, and when it ended I wanted more. To follow Jan, Lisa, Becki, and Alex's lives was a pleasure. Wittily written, with great amount of humor, it made me relate to all four of the girls, although they are so different in their attitudes and their outlook on life. I will read more by this author!
Sex and the City was never this good. Indeed, it was at times as trashy as several reviewers have said this book is. But trashy without a deeper meaning is just plain old trashy, whereas this book has that deeper level which makes it trashy AND deep = cool and worth the entrance fee and then some. Recommended.
This is contemporary romance at its best. There's lots of fun to be had as you follow the life and times of four different women as they seek out just about what every other sane female on the planet wants - to be loved, cherished and happy. Can these four lives all come together in time for a happy ever after though - well, you'll just have to read it and find out!
Took me back to the days when I was a newlywed, that time when lovers can never get enough of each other and everything else just works itself out. The story is sexy and passionate but it's character driven, funny and relatable too. Like Sex and the City for the 2010s.
Humorous Chick-Lit/Romance novel with some erotica that I read in one sitting. Enjoyed reading about the characters and the events in their lives. Thoroughly recommended.
An amazing contemporary romance with lots of fun and great. This book is very well written and keeps the reader and eager to keep reading on. Loved the book. Recommended
