Librarian note: AKA Jenny Carroll (1-800-Where-R-You series), AKA Patricia Cabot (historical romance novels).

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby--writing novels--for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.

She is now the author of nearly fifty books for both adults and teens, selling fifteen million copies worldwide, many of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 38 countries, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In addition, Meg wrote the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-You? series (on which the television series, Missing, was based), two All-American Girl books, Teen Idol, Avalon High, How to Be Popular, Pants on Fire, Jinx, a series of novels written entirely in email format (Boy Next Door, Boy Meets Girl, and Every Boy's Got One), a mystery series (Size 12 Is Not Fat/ Size 14 Is Not Fat Either/Big Boned), and a chick-lit series called Queen of Babble.

Meg is now writing a new children's series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls. Her new paranormal series, Abandon, debuts in Summer of 2011.

Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Indiana, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.

I just finished the best book ever "Glitter Girls and the Great Fake Out," by: Meg Cabot. Allie (Main Character) has to choose between two opitions, and she really wants to do both. The first option is going to Missy's (Erica's older sister, Erica is Allie's best freind) twirltactular and spending time with all her best freinds, The second option is going to glittorati, riding in a limo, going to go to the Cheesecake Factory, and staying at a fancy hotel, but she would be going with her x-best freind Mary K. Shiner, Britiny Houser the snoty rich kid, and three other girls from Allie's old school ( Britiny is the B-Day girl). I can relate to this because I once had to chose to either going to my best freinds party where we were just going play at her house, or I could go to my not so freind's Birthday party at blazer tag. I ended up chosing going to my best freinds house because I didn't want to have to see my x-best friend. I also once had to choice from these two ice cream flavors cookies and cream (which is my favorite) or I could get vinalla with two toppings it was a really hard desision, but I ended up picking vanilla with two toppings because I was not in the mood for cookies and cream. Which one does allie end up picking, the one that everyone would probably pick, going in a limo with her x-best freinds. Little does she know it ended up being worst party ever, at glitoroti Britiny made her dress like a pirate even thought she wanted to dress like a actress/vet, At the cheesecake factory they opened presents and Allie had given Britiny a book witch Britiny did'nt like because everyone else had given her a better present, Like Mary K. Shiner had gotten her a MP3, so Britiny and her freinds laughed at Allie's present exept one girl named Courtney. Allie asked to be exused, she went to the bathroom and tried not to cry, She was in there a long time so Courtney came to check on Allie, Coutney told Allie what Britiny and Mary K. were talking about while she was gone. Thay had been discusing what thay were going to do to her at the hotel, Like stick Allie's hand in warm water so she would wet the bed, and pull her sleeping out into the hall and lock the door, and they said they were going to dare Allie to pull down her pants in the loby. So Allie called her Uncle's girl friend to come and pick her up at the hotel, she said "yes" when thay got to the hotel Allie went home. When she got home she called her best freind Erica and said she was sorry about not going to missy's twirltacular, but it turned out that there was another compation the next day so Allie could go to Missy's twirltacular, Allie was so realeved that she could go to one of Missy's compations. My favorite part was when Allie got to go to Missy's twirltacular after all! I hope you read this book you would LOVE IT!

Glitter girls and great fake outs is by meg cabot. It is about a girl who has to choose between two opportunites. One of them is going to her best freinds sister's compation and hanging out with them or going with her ex-freinds to ride in a limo and go to a fun costime store and go to the cheese cake factory and a big fancy hotel for a birthday party. Of course, Ally picks going in a limo (who would'nt). I would probley pick the same thing that Ally did consitering in this sitionation there are a lot of fun things to do at this party.I really like how the book takes a turn and she gos with her ex-freinds instead of going with her real freinds because, it leaves you thinking why would she do that. It really suprized me that she didnt go with her real freinds because you dont usally go with your non best freinds you usally go with your real freinds.I rate this book 5 stars because its a really good book and it has a lot of twists and turns, you should really read it.

A stream of consciousness novel with Allie (a 4th grader) interacting with a myriad of people, creating structure with her list of rules, but requiring challenging decisions to be made in her quest to understand the gift - “to a true friend.” Recommended to me by my granddaughter.

This book was definitely the best in the series but it seems like all the books in this series, including this one had a predictable ending.

This book is so good!!!This book is about a girl named Allie that has a choice of going to her friends recital or to a b-day party. She really wants to go to the party so she can ride a limo. How can she tell her best friend that she wants to go to the party instead of her recital? When she goes to Brittanys party,Brittany is picking on Allie. Allie wishes that she had gone to the recital instead of the the party. You need to read this book so you can find out the ending.

I read a book over the summer. It was about a girl named Allie who's mom is a small town tv star. Allies friends are going to a baton twirling competition and she is invited but lies to them; so she can ride in a limo, go to Glitterati, eat at the Cheese Cake Factory, and spend the night at a nice hotel. But it didn't turn out to well for her. She wasn't happy at how they were treating her. What will she do? What will happen?

This is still an allie finkle book, so it’s still a fun time, but allie really made me mad with all her lying to her best friends. All because she wanted to do something that she may never get to do again. I get it, but she should have listened to sophie from the beginning: it won’t be fun unless you’re doing it with people you want to be with

The only good think that came out of this book is that allie was reminded of her friendship with courtney (which even I forgot about). I hope this comes up in the next book

- Picking out outfit for missy’s competition
- Invited to brittany hauser’s birthday. Same days as Missy’s twirl event
- Mom doesn’t get paid for news appearances
- Want to go to baton event to support friends. But wants to go to the party because they are renting a limo
- Lies that Brittany’s moon is buying her friends
- Kevin spills the birthday plans
- Present price rule
- Allie “acts” to cover up the truth that Kevin told
- Forgot a gift for the party
- Got a book from her own shelf to give. Extra copy from harmony with writing on the inside
- Asked about boyfriends
- Glitteratti: be unique and look towards your future. Brittany is pushing allie to be a pirate
- Runway photoshoot in costume… based it on her acting skills and missy’s routine
- Everyone thinks allie is the most popular girl at her new school
- Cheesecake factory with her mountain of presents
- Allie forgot she became friends with courtney before she moved
- Brittany is planning to hate everything about allie and play pranks so allie calls uncle jay to go home
- Harmony comes to pick allie up
- Called erica and told the truth. Then gave her the book from harmony (after stealing it back before leaving the party)
- Still get to see missy at the FINALS!!
- Hausers got banned from hilton hotels because brittany poured soda on policemen

Chapter titles:
1. It’s important to try and not hurt someone’s feelings if you can help it
2. If you’re going to lie to other people about why you aren’t going to do something that you said you were going to, you had better make it a really good lie
3. It’s ok to lie if no one finds out your lying and the lie doesn’t hurt anyone and it isn’t that big of a lie and it’s partially based on something true. Sort of
4. In my house, nothing will get you in bigger trouble than lying
5. Liars don’t get any of harmony’s home baked cookies. Unless you cry hard enough
6. A present should come from the heart
7. Boy crazy girls don’t understand that not all boys are great
8. You can’t do something to make the birthday girl upset on her birthday on purpose
9. It’s important to always thank your hostess when you’ve had a nice time. And even when you haven’t
10. Sometimes the brave thing to do is go home
11. You’ll never know if you don’t try
12. Practice makes perfect

Other rules:
- Do not touch anything in missy’s room
- No talking in missy’s room unless missy says you can talk
- Leave missy’s room the minute missy says so
- Break the rules and missy will break you
- Always agree with everything missy says if you want her to stay in a good mood
- Do not slam doors
- Don’t interrupt people
- Never eat anything red
- Breaking a promise to do something with one person just because someone else asked you to do something WAY more exciting is a rotten thing to do
- If you’re going to lie to other people about why your aren’t going to do something with them that you said you were going to, you had better make it s really good lie
- Being overly concerned about your health can be unhealthy
- Nothing will get you in bigger trouble than lying
- Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you just can’t win
- “Thank you very much for having me” is what you say when someone invites you to a birthday party
- Saying “yes maam” and “no sir” are other things you have to say to grown ups when we are invited somewhere
- Just because you’re dressed like something doesn’t mean you’re going to magically transform into it when you’re grown up. It’s all good practice for later when it really counts
- Throwing food on the floor is bad manners
- There is such a thing as a tesseract
- Part of preparing to have a future career as an actress/veterinarian, besides reading every book in your school library about animals, is that you have to be ready for every acting challenge that comes along
- Saying the words “throw up” can make people who feel like throwing up actually do it

Allie Finkle doesn't know what to do. She's so excited to spend time with her friends watching her friend's sister, Missy, perform in the Twirltacular. However, she just got invited to a birthday party at the same time on the same day. Although she doesn't like the birthday girl, she really likes the idea of the party -- a ride in a limo, a trip to Glitterati, dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and an overnight stay at a fancy hotel. And how can she pass that up?

Allie tells a 'white lie' about her mom so she can go to the party instead of the Twirltacular. But as you might expect, not everything goes according to plan. Will Allie survive the party with her frenemies? And what about the friends at her new school? Will they forgive her for not making it to the Twirltacular?

I read this out loud to my daughter and really enjoyed it. Allie was just a normal kid with normal feelings that any kid would have. Yeah... any kid would rather go in a limo and eat a fancy dinner than anything else.. despite who was going to be there. And I know it's difficult for kids to be honest; at least she recognized it would hurt her friends' feelings if they knew she was going to the party just because. This was definitely an instance of 'what do you do?' which any kid might face, and of course, there were consequences to Allie's choice. A good lesson to learn... even as an adult. Would you rather go to the cool dance club with people you don't like or hang out with friends at someone's house?

Allie's rules were also cute. Kind of like rules I might have... but I only keep in my head. Like never make a left on a certain road. Or always hold the door open for people and say thank you. I like how Allie was so thoughtful at a young age. And I loved how much she enjoyed her true friends.

"I am seriously the best actress in the fourth grade. Possibly the world." (Allie Finkle)

In Glitter Girls, Allie has to make a choice between going with her friends to support Erica's sister, Missy, at her baton twirling competition or going to Brittany Hauser's fancy birthday party where she'll get to ride in a limo

Allie is an extremely likable and realistic 9 year old. She makes plenty of mistakes, but she always tries to do what's right.

I enjoyed the overall message about friendship in Glitter Girls. I was also reminded about just how mean 4th graders can be!

Allie Finkle is facing a great dilemma. She has been invited to a baton contest and Glitteratti (only the best most excellent place to have a birthday ever) on the same day. She decides to ride in the limo and go to Gliteratti with her former friends. She has some new rules to learn. Meg Cabot has such a strong voice when writing. I have read a YA, Adult, and now a middle grade by Meg Cabot this year and they are all completely different. I love how clear she makes her characters when she is writing for different audiences. I can't wait to finish this series.

I just got done reading this book last night. I loved every minute of it.

Allie's had been looking forward to going to Missy's regional Twirltacular Baton Competition but that is until Allie's mom tells her that she is invited to Brittany Hauser's birthday party, who is a girl Allie didn't like. Then Allie has to choose between Missy's regional Twirltacular baton competition or her ex-friend Brittany Hauser's birthday party. She chooses to go to Brittany Hauser's birthday party instead.

However, Allie really wanted to go to Missy's regional Twirltacular baton competition but she really wants to go to Brittany Hauser's birthday party. She chooses to go to Brittany Hauser's birthday party because at Brittany Hauser's birthday parry she is going to get to ride in a stretch limo to the city and then go to Glitterati, the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and then she'll be spending the night in a hotel with room service and then she'll be getting to brunch in the hotel restaurant, that has a waterfall and glass elevators that open in the open air atrium.

Allie goes to the party and rides in the limo she tells the others that she has a boyfriend which wasn't true. At Glitterati, Brittany makes Allie dress like a pirate. Allie doesn't like pirates, her brother, Kevin likes pirates. She decides to dress like a pirate other than a actress slash veterinarian.

When it was Allie's turn to walk down the runway at Glitterati. She pretended that everyone in the story loved her and she was seeming to act like she was a movie star. When she got done Brittany's mother loved it. However, Brittany and her friends didn't think it was funny. I feel like Brittany thought even thou it was her birthday that none of her friends could have fun at Glitterati and be who they wanted to be but instead Brittany picked out costumes for them to wear.

When they got to The Cheesecake Factory, Allie ordered a burger but couldn't have ketchup on it because one of Allie's rules is don't eat anything red.

Allie didn't have a gift to give to Brittany. So, she had to give her a book that Uncle Jay's girlfriend Harmony gave her.

In the bathroom at The Cheesecake Factory, Allie has to get away from Brittany and the others for a little bit. When she got done and she was washing her hands she was surprised to see Courtney waiting for her. Courtney wanted to see if Allie was okay.

Courtney, who was another girl invited to the party, told Allie that when she was sleeping that night that Brittany and the others were going to stuck Allie's hand in hot water to make her wet the bed. And then they were going to draw red dots all over Allie's face to make her look like she has pimples.

To get out of going to the hotel and spending the night with Brittany, Allie had to fake sick to get to go home. To make herself sick she used the hand blower to give herself a fever, fixed her hair which had gotten pretty messy and practiced looking sick which wasn't hard because she only had coke, caramel corn and fries all day.

At the hotel, Allie noticed the book that she had given to Brittany which was "A Wrinkle in time" was piled on a big cart. Allie took the book back which I don't think she should have done even thou Harmony had given her the book and put in the book "to a true friend" which Brittany wasn't.

Harmony ended up having to pick up Allie because Uncle Jay couldn't,

when Allie got home she went over to Erica's house and give her the book "A Wrinkle in Time" that said "To a true friend" which Erica was.

The next day Allie got to go The Little Miss Majorette Baton Twirling Twiraltacular because Missy made it to the finals.

She got to go to he Little Miss Majorette Baton Twirling Twiraltacular even thou she missed the first day of it,

At the show saw Courtney, who she had invited the morning and turns out Brittany and the others got into trouble because they made a few prank phone calls, and Brittany dared Mary Kay to sneak out into the atrium and pout 7up on the heads of some people which turned out to be police officers.

I am glad that Allie decided to fake sick so she could go home because I don't think it was a very nice thing that Brittany and her friends did.

I recommend this book to everyone. Even thou it is a kids book I think anyone would enjoy reading it.

My favourite book of the series! I love the drama when Allie has to decide whether to go to her best friend (Erica's) party or her ex-best friends party riding in a limo, going to the cheesecake factory and staying at a fancy hotel. Will she go with Erica and miss out on pure luxury? Or will she bail on her to go in a limousine? (NOTE: I highly suggest reading books 1-4 before reading this book.)

Good Reads #2

“Glitter Girls And The Great Fake Out” is an exciting novel by Meg Cabot. The story takes place in the U.S (they don't say where exactly it is in the U.S) , where the main character Allie lives with her family. The story began when Addie and her best friends were excited to go and support Missy, Erica’s big sister at the Twirling Contest. A problem arose when Allie had got invited to Brittany her enemy’s birthday party . Allie was so mad that she had to go even if Brittany was her enemy and she was so mad that she wouldn’t have a chance to go to the twircular contest with her best friends .But, she decided to go to Brittany’s birthday because she will have a chance to ride on a limo, and go to Glitteratti, and go to the cheesecake factory, and she will also sleep over at a luxurious hotel. The first thing she had to do is find a plan to convince her best friends why she won’t come to the twircular contest. Next, she didn’t want to break her BFF’s hearts that she is refusing to go support Missy so she had to lie that her mom forced her to go to the birthday party or she would lose her job because Brittany’s dad is her mom’s boss. But in reality, Allie really wants to go to the birthday party.
Finally, she had to get her a present but her mom was traveling with her dad so she had nothing to give her , so she gave her a book . Lastly, Addie didn’t like the birthday party because they didn’t treat her well. So, Addie faked that she was sick because she heard that Brittany was planning a really bad prank that would kill her. So Addie got back home and she was really happy that she is back home.

The main character of the novel “Glitter Girls And The Great Fake Out” was Addie; She was a very nice and caring girl. Addie treated all the characters nice and equal even though she lied. But Addie lied because she didn’t want to loose her best Friends. Addie grew a lot in the story because she learned a lesson that she should never lie to her friends and she can’t go to her enemy’s birthday party because it's better than her best friend's sister’s twirling contest . From the actions of the main characters, the reader learns that lying is not the right thing, all of this made the plot of the story very exciting because the story had a lot of problems and it gave a very important lesson that everyone should know.

The most exciting episode in the story was when Addie had got another chance to go with her best friends to the twirling contest, because I really liked Addie and she’s a very nice person and deserves to have other chances to fix her unforgettable mistakes . However, the most disappointing moment in this story happened when Brittany wanted to do a really bad prank on her and when she started laughing at her and when she made her cry. I would recommend this book to all the girls out there because the book is very inspirational. I think that all the girls out there would enjoy this book so much and even I really liked the book.

Meg Cabot & Allie Finkle do it once again. I defy you to find a fourth-grade girl out there who won't relate to at least some of what Allie is thinking, doing, or feeling, & it's just impossible not to adore her lovably wacky family.
This time Allie is facing a terribly difficult decision: should she go see best friend Erica's older sister compete in a baton-twirling competition with all of her friends (batons! Glittery, colorful costumes! Trophies as tall as Allie herself!) or should she go to the birthday party celebration of a frenemy from her old neighborhood with whom she has a past (Brittany's a really mean girl - but a limo ride! Makeovers at popular party destination Glitterati! Dinner at the Cheesecake Factory! AND an overnight at the downtown Hilton Hotel - with a real, live waterfall in the lobby!)Both would be fun, but how many times is Allie going to get to ride in an actual limo, or have her picture professionally taken showing what she'll look like when she's an actress-slash-veterinarian? Even though her real friends are going to the Twirltacular, Allie just can't miss up an opportunity like this. So she sort of...stretches...the truth (which is totally okay if you're only doing it to keep from hurting someone's feelings) to her friends & gets ready to go to the birthday party of the century. Funny, though, how things often don't turn out the way you expected...
Allie learns some important lessons in this one, & although they're not subtle, they're imparted in a story that the age group will find absolutely gripping, in a situation that many of them will be familiar with.

I chose this book because I read the first book and I liked it, so I thought that the second one would be better and it was in some ways, I learned a lesson through this book. The plot of this book was about a girl that had to decide wether to go to her old friends birthday party which was what she wanted because they got to ride in a limo and do all kinds of fancy stuff which she dreamed of doing, but at the same time she didn't want to go because they didn't really like her, they were mean to her and she was actually surprised that she even got invited. Her second choice was to go to her best friends older sisters Baton Twirling competition. Allie made a bad choice, she chose to go to her old friends birthday party and she had a horrible time, her "friends" were really mean to her so she had to fake on being sick so she would go home and she did. She was happy when she got home and also that her best friend's that went to Baton Twirling competition weren't mad at her. My favorite quote was " Practice makes perfect" because it's true if people have enough practice everything will turn out great, whatever it is. I really liked the authors writing style, I like how she put rules on top of every chapter and how she describes everything well in the book, how it is written. I would recommend this book to everyone, it is a great book and also has great rules in there that people can learn from.

well, i think this book is very awesome because it talks about a lot of rules and about cool stuff
well in the same time there is mean girls and awesome girl.Well i don't really think allie should of gone to missy twirling instead of going to ride in a limo with girls that hates her and talks means stuff about her well she just went to ride in a limo because that was her dream wich kevin wich is her brother who wants to go on the limo but he couldn't so allie had a opportunity so she went to a glitter shop and a fancy hotel and she she went to a fancy hotel wich she wanted to be a actress veterinarian but the birthday girl wanted allie to be a vampire but allie doesn't want to because she never thought of being a vampire or dream about vampires.
But she had to be a vampire because that was a rule because she told brittany wich was the birthday girl but brittay got mad so allie couldn't be a veterinarian because that was a rule you can't make the birthday girl mad.But i know that allie didn't really mean it to make the birthday girl mad anyways she let another girl pick the clothes for allie after allie started to dressed up allie said that the clothes didn't look so bad it was kind of cute.
But after she went

Allie Finkle is a proud resident of an old Victorian house where she goes to Pine Heights Elementary. Before that, however, she lived in another part of town and went to school somewhere else.

One day, she gets invited to two things the weekend her mom is going to be out of town. First is the Little Miss Majorette Baton Twirling Twirltacular, which one of her best friend's sisters is performing in. The second is a glamorous birthday party, in her old neighborhood with her old friends turned enemies, which will entail going to Build-A-Bear Workshop®, Glitterati, and staying the night at a fancy hotel.

Her mom already told her old friends that she was going to be at the Glitterati party, but Allie is torn as to which one she should go to. Will Allie make the right choice?

A humorous realistic fiction story that is fun to read. The characters are well-developed and memorable; the plot is believable and realistic. Readers who like Meg Cabot and have read the other ALLIE FINKLE'S RULES FOR GIRLS books, along with realistic fiction fans, will all enjoy GLITTER GIRLS AND THE GREAT FAKE OUT.

I like this book because the main character is called Allie, and my name is Allie too! Not only that, I think the series of Allie Finkle is really good. This story is about Allie's friend Erica invited her to her sister, Missy's competition. Allie really wanted to go. But as soon she found that out, her mom said that she is invited to that horrible Brittany Hauser's birthday party. But the birthday party is really cool. But she also wants to go to the competition. And she wants to go to the birthday party. So Allie lied to her friends to not make them not like her. When she went to Brittany's party, not everything went well. First, her mom didn't buy her Brittany's gift so she had to find something to give it to her, which is a book. Then, as she was choosing her costumes, Brittany made her pretend as a pirate, so she had to or else she is going to get very mad. She got laughed by all her friends except Courtney, which is also her good friend. At last, Allie went home, she didn't get to stay for the sleep over at a hotel. But she gets to spend time with her GOOD GOOD friends at last.

I read this amazing book titled "Glitter Girls and the Great Fake Out",in my oppinion it's a five star book.It talks about a very bright girl named Allie Finkle, she wrote a huge list of rules for teaching use girly life rules. Allie also teach use that things you dont like turns out to things that you really like, that is what happend to her.

It all started when Allie and her best friends Erica,Sophie and Caroline wanted to spend the best weekend ever,so when they heard about the regional Twirltacular baton competition they were really exited to go there.Only one problem Allie told her friends its sure she's coming her mom annouced that she had to go to Brittany's party and said that they were going to take the limo to Glitterati, its the girls dream store. When Allie heart the word limo and Glitterati she freaked out and was so happy. When it was the day of the party she was worried because of her friends she leted them go alone. At the end of the party Allie was the happiest girl ever.

I HATE Brittany Hauser!!!! All she does is make Allie feel bad for being herself. I, for one, thought it was interesting that she mixed outfits at Glitterati, and all that Brittany did was make fun of her creativity. The whole time in the limo, everyone except Allie were texting, because Allie is not allowed to have a phone until the sixth grade. Next, when Allie orders a plain cheeseburger from The Cheesecake Factory, Brittany calls her a freak. Plain cheeseburgers taste awesome! Poor Allie was also made fun of her present to Brittany; a book. Everyone just started to laugh, except Mrs.Hauser and Courtney, at the comic newspaper wrapping. I am actually surprised that Allie can withstand such a bully. It's almost like Cheyenne and Brittany are twins! Courtney, however, was not in on Brittany's plan at the hotel. The plan was to pour hot water on her hands to make her wet the bed! How cruel! All Brittany wanted to do is hurt Allie's feelings and embarrass her from the beginning!

Now do you see why I HATE Brittany?

Allie Finkle may just be written for kids, but the humor will be appealing to readers of all ages. There's great characterization done by Cabot, including older characters such as Missy and Allie's parents, that is perfect for attracting both young and old audiences looking for a laugh. Cabot is amazing at capturing all these diverse personalities of these crazy little characters. She portrays Allie and her family together so well, and having siblings, she was able to write the best scenes including realistic interactions between Allie and her brothers. The cool thing about these books is that even though they're part of a series, they can totally be read as stand-alones and make sense at the end. Allie's "rules" provide a great base of solid repetition to keep the younger readers solidly interested. I'm hoping we do get to see Courtney again in future Allie Finkle books; she makes a great addition to an already wonderful cast of characters. Overall, a completely cute read--loved it!

Erica’s sister, Missy, is competing in the Twilacular. Allie is so excited that Erica has asked Allie and their closest friends to attend the competition. Unfortunately Allie’s mom made plans for Allie to attend a birthday party on the same day.

Brittany Hauser, a frenemy from Allie’s former school, is having a big birthday celebration. Her parents are renting a BMW SUV limo to take them into the city to go to Glitterati (the IT store), dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and a night in an expensive hotel. Despite her strong dislike for Brittany (you shouldn’t hate anyone – it’s a rule), Allie wants to go to check out Glitterati to see what everyone is raving about. How can she go after she told Erica she would attend Missy’s competition? Allie exaggerates why she has to go and soon it spins out of control.

Allie quickly learns that sometimes the most expensive and exciting thing isn’t always as great as it may seem.

I love Allie Finkle. Her character is so real. She's just a typical 9 year old girl, trying to figure out all that social stuff that starts to become so important (too important?) as girls near teen hood. In this installment, Allie lies to her best friends about her weekend plans. She immediately knows what she did is wrong, she feels bad about the lying, and she ends up regreting every decision she made about the weekend. She learns her lesson well. My favorite rule from this book is "Boy-crazy girls don't understand that not all boys are great."

Uncle Jay continues to be a hoot and a half. He's every kids' dream uncle. His character provides the most laughs for the parents reading this series.

One quibble with this series: Brittany Hauser is almost too nasty to be real. Is her mother really so clueless?
