This story is part of a very interesting Harlequin Blaze series from author Kelley St John. It's about a family of mediums who help spirits cross over. "Fire in the Blood" is the 4th book with the 5th coming in July and the final one in September.

The Vicknair family have always been mediums. Grandma Adelaide, tho dead herself, still sends messages to her grandkids to help newly dead spirits pass over. When Chantelle Bedeau begins to be haunted by a ghost, she turns to sexy firefighter Tristan Vicknair to help her get rid of her unwanted guest.

Tristan has had the hots for Chantelle from the first time he saw her. He even had one night of great sex with her...then he woke up and she was gone. It didn't take him long to figure out she faked her way through the night, but he's determined to get another chance and 'make good' if only she would return his calls!

Very hot, interesting plotline, and a quick read. I've enjoyed all the books in this series.

I started trying to read this, and the whole ghost plot line really got in the way for me. DNF/skipped.

Apparently the Vicknairs are a family of mediums with frequent visitors from ghosts. This story picks up after the last one (which I didn't read) with Chantelle, who was sexually abused as a teenager and whose sister was murdered by one of those abusers. She's staying with the Vicknairs and is very attracted to Tristan, the oldest brother and in attempt to get over her sexual issues, she invites him to have sex with her. It doesn't go as well as she hoped and she takes off without talking to him the next morning and doesn't talk to him again until six months later. Chantelle is being visited by a hostile ghost and she goes to the Vicknairs for help. The little ghost messaging system indicates that Tristan needs to help Chantelle overcome her fears before the ghost will go away.

This is an okay story. I have a feeling I would have liked it quite a bit more if I'd read other books in the series, because this one is heavily reliant on those characters, situations and background information. The author does a decent job summing things up, but I think there's way too much information to try reading this as a standalone successfully. I was a bit bothered by the fact that, Chantelle, a victim of sexual abuse, never seeks treatment from a professional (nor does anyone at ANY point suggest it). She seems to believe that all of her problems now lie with the fact that she can't have an orgasm and she's uncomfortable with sex (and she's afraid of knives). That's vastly underestimating the effect of that kind of abuse on a person. So after a few bouts of successful sex and being able to use a knife, she is completely healed from her experience (which had previously crippled her for years). I had a bit of a problem with that. More than that though, my inner-feminist kept bristling at the idea that she needed a man to overcome her fears... But I did enjoy Tristan and his incredible patience and desire to please Chantelle.
