She’s fighting her attraction. He’s fighting an old reputation.
Nessa Rabin always puts herself last on the list. She’s responsible. An Ivy League graduate. A successful sex therapist. But after her breakup with a man she calls ‘Satan’s Bikini Waxer’, the only relationships she wants to fix are her clients’. Pushed to unwind during their friend’s wedding, she doesn’t expect to fall into bed with the bride’s brother—a man she’s had claws out for since high school.
Mateo Santos-Manolo is always up for a good time. But the party stops when one nepo-baby costs him his job. Instead of sulking, this former playboy heads home to spend a few months in Peacock Springs. Determined to forget his big-city woes, Mateo’s looking to start his own firm—and reunite with the one-night stand that he can’t forget.
When they find themselves co-chairs of the upcoming Sunflower Fest, a little white lie pushes Nessa and Mateo to play the part of happy couple—or risk the gentrification of their beloved hometown. Soon, it’s clear they are a force to be reckoned with… so long as they can survive each other.
Fighting includes a M/F, antagonists-to-lovers, small-town romance full of quirky townies, found family, spice, and a guaranteed HEA. It is the second book in a series of interconnected romantic traum-com stories, exploring human stress response behavior. Set in Peacock Springs, NJ, they highlight healing through laughter and love.
Jordana is a textbook Millennial-Eldest Daughter-Caring Professional with Gifted Kid Burn Out. She's been reading past her bedtime since she learned to read, loves sitcoms, and can't function without coffee. She writes contemporary romantic "traum-com" based on the belief that we can heal through laughter and love stories.
Nessa is best friends with Mateo's sister and they don't get along. When they have a one night stand during her wedding, Nessa goes back to ignoring him but Mateo knows they are meant for more. When Nessa's ex comes to town, Mateo says they should fake date to keep him away. Reluctantly, Nessa agrees with some rules. They grow closer but Nessa keeps Mateo at a distance. He's all in, and tries to prove it to her. Can Nessa learn to trust him?
Where to start about this book! Nessa is fierce, independent, she knows her worth, she's incredibly intelligent with a heart of gold. She's constantly helping and supporting others, but somewhere along the way, she hasn't been doing things for herself which is super relatable, right?
Mateo 'Matty', is a cinnamon fireball, he gives golden retriever vibes which is some of THE best vibes for me. He's hooked on her from the very beginning and does little things for her throughout. He makes me laugh and swoon, he has a flirty and dirty mouth too. Small town romances are my favourite kinds of romance, so seeing the close knit relationships between the friends and the siblings is so wholesome and has a sense of belonging within the book! Peacock Springs is a cosy beautiful town and really is reminiscent of Stars Hollow! The style of writing, the atmosphere is everything we grew up on watching in our small town shows like Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill. I appreciate the thought behind that! The representation within the book was fantastic too. Im not well versed with Filipino culture or Jewish, but there was a lot of thought behind the 2 main characters. Im in LOVE with this series and it's only book 2! The tension build up between MCs was well executed and slight torture waiting for them to give up fighting it😂 I would highly recommend! I loved loved Flying, and River x Lillys romance but Mateo may just have my heart.
I really enjoyed "Fighting" by Jordana Blake! I love a good dislike-to-love/fake dating book! Nessa and Mateo's story is full of swoon, growth, banter, found family, healing, and animal side characters. I love how Nessa explains the v1rg1n/wh0re complex, how women are held to this impossible standard because of the patriarchy, that they are expected to be "pure" until marriage, but also must be performance-enhanced animals once they are married to their "one true love." I admire how she transformed her trauma into a successful career. She's strong but vulnerable, and I found a lot to like and admire about her. And Mateo! GAH! He has never gotten over his one-night stand with Nessa, and he is clearly OBSESSED with her. He finds any way to take care of each other. SWOON!! Though they don't seem like an automatic "I see it" kind of pair, they slowly grow on each other, and they grew on me, too. Their chemistry is undeniable, mostly sold through their banter. God, the BANTER! I love how they pick at and play with each other in a good-spirited manner. The spice is good, too. Their town, Peacock Springs, is a character in its own right. This chaotic, zany little town keeps me coming back for more. I loved the friendships and secondary characters, complete with funny texting and FaceTime calls. I also appreciated the different perspectives about Jewish and Filipino cultures, different levels of education, and mental health. I found a lot to like here, and I hope you take a chance on this book!
Thank you to Jordana Blake for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
A Sweet, Swoony Romance with Heartfelt Friendships
ARC Read
Mateo and Nessa shine as the heart of this touching and well-paced romance. Their chemistry is undeniable from the very start, and watching their bond grow from tentative trust to full-blown love is both satisfying and emotionally resonant. The story doesn’t rely on melodrama—instead, it builds on real emotions, thoughtful dialogue, and moments of quiet vulnerability that give their relationship a strong foundation.
Equally heartwarming are the friendships that surround them. The supporting cast adds warmth and charm, with scenes that bring laughter, comfort, and occasionally a necessary reality check. These relationships create a cozy, lived-in feel to the world of the novel.
Overall, the plot is well-crafted with a natural flow and just enough twists to keep things engaging without overwhelming the romance. It’s a story that leaves you with a smile—and maybe a few happy tears—by the final page.
I was so excited to get back to Peacock Springs! I adored the first book in this series and the second one is just the same! Nessa is so strong and confident about every except Mateo. Actually she’s very confident that Mateo is unchanged. Mateo is just such a sweetheart trying to prove to Nessa that he’s changed.
Going back to Peacock Springs was such a treat because all the characters just work so well together. I love this town and the people so much! I wish I could visit Peacock Springs!
The plot was right up my alley because loveee a man that pines after the FMC, but also makes sure she knows her worth.
Such a good book! Definitely a beach read, which is one of my favorites types of books!
Thank you to Jordana Blake for this ARC! All thoughts are my own!
4.5⭐️ 2🌶️ Mateo is my newest book boyfriend while Nessa is a BAMF and my new fictional bestie💋 I love Peacock Springs and its quirkiness - Jordana writes these characters so well it feels like you’re there with them. I loved the mental health rep along with the messages of learning to own your own sexuality and being proud of who you are. While I loved “flying”, “fighting” has taken the number one spot in my heart and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans these characters get up to in her next book!
I usually critique the shit out of ARC books, because I feel like it’s my job as a reader to let the author know of any issues… But, I LOVED THIS ONE!
It picks up where Flying left off, which I loved.
Nessa and Mateo have a great story that hit all of the marks for me.
I feel like I’m part of the “framily” after reading this series and am ready for more! The characters are likable and realistic. They have depth and personality.
I’m hoping the next journey to Peacock Springs explores Seth and Millie 👀
Arc review for Fighting, Peacock Springs, New Jersey Book 2 by @jordanablakebooks 4/5 starts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just like Flying , fighting didn’t disappointing what so ever. If you are looking for a hot romcom , fighting is the perfect book for you. loved mateo and nessa so much!!! And the bonus part is with Jewish references, I’m completely obsessed 😍😍
I loved this book so, so much. Jordana absolutely nails the hate to love banter, and I couldn’t get enough of Nessa and Mateo’s dynamic! The small town Peacock Springs shenanigans continued from book one and I am once again annoyed that it isn’t a real place where I can live. The hard topics are handled with love and sensitivity, and Jordana really the happy ending feel earned in the best way. I can’t recommend this book enough!
How freaking adorable was this book ! It gave me awesome Gilmore girls stars hallow vibes ! It was so beautifully written. They main characters banters was *chefs kiss* it was top notch !! I was all here for it !! This love store was epic. The MMC was such a golden retriever for his girl🩷 The FMC was such a beautiful golden broken heart. Dealing with rebuilding herself and never letting herself crumble and be the person she was when she was with that ex. And ladies we all know that feeling.
Her finding herself rebuilding her confidence and accepting that there is someone out here to love her and following this love story was amazing to follow.
Welcome back to Stars Holl….sorry, Peacock Springs!
I absolutely loved Flying, so being able to return to Peacock Springs with Fighting felt like coming home.
Once again, we dive into a heartwarming small-town romance, surrounded by a close-knit community of friends and family. This time, the spotlight is on Nessa - a fiery, intelligent, and independent psychologist who, like many of us, spends more time caring for others than herself. Then there’s Mateo - a millionaire real estate developer returning to his hometown, best friends brother – if you know you know, the ultimate cinnamon roll hero who’s hooked on Nessa from the very first page.
This story is humorous, swoon-worthy, flirty, and just the right amount of dirty - what’s not to love? Their chemistry is electric, and watching their bond grow page by page is incredibly satisfying.
What immediately stood out to me was the beautiful multicultural representation — both Filipino and Jewish. As someone who’s Jewish, I found it incredibly relatable. The subtle comments and cultural references didn’t go unnoticed and felt like a warm hug. I love seeing Jewish representation in books — it feels so familiar, like coming home, just like the comforting vibe of a small-town romance. Even better, the cultural elements were woven in naturally, offering insight without ever feeling like a forced lesson.
The emotional journey between Nessa and Mateo was thoughtfully written, rooted in vulnerability, trust, and patience rather than over the top drama. Watching them grow - both individually and as a couple - was truly moving. Seeing them recognise their worth and find the courage to be their truest selves was beautiful.
As with Flying, Fighting also touches on heavier themes, including past abuse, PTSD, and mental health. These elements were handled with care, sensitivity, and compassion, and always surrounded by love and understanding.
It was also lovely to see familiar faces from Flying. Revisiting old characters and getting to know the supporting cast added even more warmth, charm, and comfort to the story, giving Fighting that quintessential cosy, homey feel.
This isn’t your typical over the top romance. While the plot may be somewhat predictable - and let’s be honest, we love that - it’s an easy, engaging read with just enough depth to keep the pages turning and leave you smiling at the end.

Thank you so much to Jordana Blake for the opportunity to read and review Fighting - all opinions are my own.
Cheers for Jordana Blake and her second book in her Peacock Springs series. Fighting is the perfect title for this book as our MCs are fighting the pull they feel towards each other from the very beginning. What romance reader doesn’t love a one night stand that evolves into more, with one of the MCs knowing they are meant to be together? With fake dating, pining, and opposites attract, this book was a joy to read and I loved watching our MCs find their HEA.
Nessa is strong, stubborn, and knows her worth. She has a heart of gold and is always helping others. As with most hearts of gold, she is great at putting others first but doesn’t do much for herself. She is a character that I can relate to through and through. I loved watching her feistiness come out. I also loved watching her realize she is allowed to put herself first and helping others doesn’t mean you're a doormat.
Mateo (Matty) is a cinnamon roll MMC who is flirty, sweet, and as we learn has a deliciously dirty mouth on him. He has it bad for Nessa and knows they are meant for each other. After a one night stand, he is determined to prove that to Nessa and what better way than to fake date to keep her ex at bay. The lengths that Matty is willing to go for Nessa to feel supported, loved, and enough is heartwarming. He is definitely a MMC that will stick with me.
Jordana’s second book is full of heart, heat, and romance. I love her writing style and the way she pulls her readers in. She truly develops characters and the growth she has them go through is organic and realistic. Nothing ever feels forced or rushed in her stories. I loved the tension that she wrote between our MCs and it was so evident while reading. She has grown so much since her first book and I am excited to continue watching her grow as an author! This book was a delight to read and I highly recommend it!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🦚Dislike to Love 💋Opposites Attract 🦚Best Friend’s Brother 💋He Falls First 🦚One Night Stand 💋Fake Dating 🦚Small Town Romance
Mateo & Nessa are everything I love in romance. Their combative love comes in the form of gentle rivalry, soft teasing and an inferno of chemistry. I loved Nessa’s black cat energy and the often dark, sarcastic way she deals with her emotions. As someone in a position of dealing with feelings, it’s ironic and real seeing her avoid her own. What I loved most though was Mateo’s (not)transformation. In many ways it appeared as he changed to become who Nessa needed, but in reality he simply allowed everyone to see who he was all along. Never the ignorant jokester without a care, his caring, invested self was just waiting for a time to shine. Jordana Blake writes with a unique eye to identity and healing. This story is packed not only with the tender love Mateo feels for Nessa or the joy of their teasing kind of love, but with a large emphasis on healing from the traumas of the past. Nessa’s job being in relationship therapy it was refreshing to see that even in positions of knowledge, abuse can slip through the cracks. Many truth bombs are dropped throughout this story that help shine a light on where to look for support and help in your own situations. The support of ‘framily’ (found family of the heart) is the biggest outpouring of love in her stories. Whether blessed with a loving family or not, we all have the opportunity to create family within friendships along the way. Seeing this community of friends & family come together, you cannot help but feel the love found within these pages. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to smack someone for the frustrations. In the end (and throughout the journey) I truly loved the romance between these two. There is something so cathartic about watching someone battle their way to love, fighting the emotions we all see so clearly. Mateo’s love language of service, giving Nessa everything she needs to gently show her his love and the patience he showed in letting her find hers in her own time is what makes him Book Boyfriend material. This story has all the small town feels and has the power to make you feel like Framily!
We return to Peacock Springs! Time for Nessa and Mateo's story.
Nessa, Dr. Rabin is working as a doctor in mental health and she also has a fun and spicy podcast. Her life is regimented and structured and that makes her feel in control. At her best friend Stephanie's wedding weekend, Nessa does something very out of character. She has a 'one night stand' with Mateo who is Stef's brother. Since he lives in Manhattan now she figured she wouldn't see him around much.
Mateo is trading homes with his sister so she and her hubby can be closer to her school for a bit. Mateo moves into her house in Peacock Springs and finds himself volunteering to work with Nessa to coordinate the annual festival. He has never gotten over that one night they had together so this is his chance to make his move. He's also trying to grab some real-estate so Nessa's ex Caleb can't. This leads to a whole fake dating fiasco!
Let the games begin! Nessa finds herself seeing a different side of Mateo and he is not at all who she thought he was. He's kind, helps others, and very respectful. Mateo also sees that Nessa's hard exterior is just a cover and she's not really a control freak and has a really fun side.
There are cats named after the Fugees, a bunny named Horney, and tons of laugh out loud moments that will make you not be able to put this book down! I loved the complex layers of Nessa and Mateo and how their Filipino and Jewish cultures were brought into the book. I also really loved seeing how close the friend group is and how they are each other's found families.
If you love a good romcom with complex layers that will have you saying 'Just one more chapter' then this is the book for you! I read it in 2 sittings and was so sad to leave Peacock Springs. I can't wait to dive back in again when the next book comes out!
Fighting by Jordana Blake is book 2 in her Peacock Springs, NJ Rom-Com series but can be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading Flying first just because both books are wonderful. I devoured both and could not put either one down. This one is told from a dual POV. It follows Nessa Rabin & Mateo Santos-Manolo. All I can say is these two were so much fun. Nessa is such a giver, doing everything for everyone around her no matter what it does to her own mental health. I could see a lot of myself in Nessa. This was the second FMC I have felt a connection with from Jordana, which is one of the reasons I love her books so much. Mateo/Matty is so caring and protective who just wants to get Nessa to trust him. Jordana only writes green flag MMC's and I am all here for it. I am so glad to have gone back to Peacock Springs and read about all the townspeople's antics. I will be reading these books for years to come. Jordana is an insta-read author for me!

Movement in my periphery catches my attention, and I turn in time to see Caleb step out from the dark corner. With Caleb “Satan’s Bikini Waxer” Reynolds the Third lurking nearby, suddenly being this close to Mateo is a comfort. Not that I’d tell him that.
“Looks like you’re going to have to marry, kiss, and kill me, Matty,” Nessa teases, her face split in a wide smile. In that moment, something inside me shifts. I don’t know about marriage, but yeah, I’m pretty sure I’d like to kiss her, even if she would kill me for it.
The tiny tornado I’m met with is adorable. With one arm around a cardboard box, she pushes me back into the house and stomps in behind me. “What… the… fuck—” I steal the words from her mouth with a kiss as fiery as her entrance. After waiting seventeen weeks and a day—not that I’m counting—to kiss her again, I can’t resist any longer.
Have fun today, I repeat to myself. I don’t want to admit it, but spending time with Mateo is fun. Don’t be afraid. He is his own person. These are the kinds of phrases my therapist and I work on when the negative thoughts creep in.
“I love you, and your poison, Ivy. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be here to tease you, to support you, all of it, for as long as you’ll let me.”
The room is loud and warm with the joy of what the girls call their “framily.” It may be chaotic, but the room is filled with nothing but love. This is exactly what my life has been missing.
I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Stepping back into Peacock Springs felt like sitting down to watch my favorite comfort show. I thought Lily had my whole heart from Flying, but Nessa came in, not quietly...because Nessa, but she made herself at home.
Nessa is smart, scrappy, wildly capable. But like so many of us raised in purity culture, she’s been taught to put herself last. Her healing journey was equal parts gut-wrenching and glorious. Watching her finally turn that same fierce care inward...something that takes years, not pages, but Jordana wrote it with honesty and grace.
And Mateo...Matty, if you earn it, is literal sunshine wrapped in a jawline and armed with a filthy mouth. He's playful, consistent, and so damn present. Whether it’s snacks, space, or soul-deep emotional safety, this man shows up. He’s golden retriever energy with wolf-level intention. Built in a lab by Jordana herself to remind you: do not settle. Their dynamic was hot. The banter was pure serotonin. The tension was delicious... And when they finally give in for the "f*CKit" moment...he spice was spicing, but layered with trust, communication, and emotional safety. That's the real magic.
This story was layered in culture, emotionally raw, and deeply human. As someone working through the echoes of purity culture and figuring out what healing really looks like? It landed hard. Let me hit you with the checklist:
Framily chaos? ✓
Gut-punch family scenes that somehow mend you? ✓
Honest, compassionate mental health rep? ✓
Small town charm without the clichés? ✓
Emotional depth that stays with you? For days ✓✓
Jordana Blake is writing love stories that feel like lifelines. Fighting isn’t just a romance, it’s a reminder that you deserve to be chosen, exactly as you are
Mateo is such a golden retriever puppy. The way he was completely smitten with the black cat queen, Nessa, ugh, my heart. I related to both of them deeply. As someone with CPTSD and a DV survivor, I just wanted to hug Nessa every time she doubted herself. That "we don’t deserve love" feeling? Way too real. But Mateo? That man was made for her. 🖤
They’re both switches (yes, please) and the way he gave her control? Pure perfection. From the Elle Woods car, adorable animal thirst traps, small La La Land dances, to the concerts, he did everything for her. Also, calling toys “teammates”? I lost it 😂 He was the softest but still so hot. 🔥
The spice was solid, but what really stood out was the found family element. It was shining throughout. Caleb can go straight to hell. And let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be Peacock Springs without the actual peacocks gracing us with their chaotic presence 😂
The text convos were hilarious, and those group chat names? Comedy gold 🤣🤣 Please make sure to check the CW before reading.

Huge thanks to Jordana for the ARC. This is my honest opinion.
“Strangely, for as different as Mateo and I are, we share one very prominent struggle. We’re both dealing with who we are expected to be and who we want to be.”
I adored returning to Peacock Springs. I turned page after page, and spent a great time with Mateo and Nessa. I loved how he helps her to get herself back on track after her abusive relationship, and adored that she is a therapist, enhancing the idea that when you’re involved, you sometimes –often– have even more difficulties to see what’s wrong. But even if Nessa fights her feelings, even if both Nessa and Mateo fight against the image the rest of the world has of them, an alternative title could have been reputation. Both of them were put into “boxes” as teenagers and everyone –to begin with themselves– is stuck to that erroneous image/reputation. I loved how the author discussed that, how the characters work to dismantle that (as much as their own prejudices) and how it helps them grow. I found that the use of moments from their past relationship as frienemies was particularly clever to make that point. The romance was a great part for that, as it helped them on their path, as they –especially Nessa– denied it, as much as they had trouble getting out of that “little box”. I loved how the steamy scenes helped with that too, as they’re never here “because you need some”, but to help the character grow. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
Thank you to the author for the eARC. My opinions are my own.
🦚One Night Stand 🍂Best Friends' Older Brother 🦚Banter 🍂He Falls Hard 🦚Healing From Trauma 🍂Small Town Romance
Mateo Santos-Manolo might just be my new favorite. Just when I thought River was unbeatable, Mateo swoops in with his quiet pining and “I’d set the world on fire for her” energy.
Nessa is every bit the first daughter—carrying everyone’s burdens, ignoring her own. Her arc felt painfully real at times, especially as she reckons with the emotional abuse from her ex.
This book gave me everything: ✅ Slow-burn romance ✅ Deep character growth ✅ A sister with savage wisdom ✅ Thoughtful, real-world issues woven in seamlessly ✅ A FRIENDS reference that earned instant bonus points
I laughed. I got choked up. I experienced mild rage. In other words, I took a spin on the Peacock Springs emotional rollercoaster—and I’ll absolutely be riding again.
🦚Huge thank you to Jordana for the eARC and for letting me crash the Peacock Springs party once again!🦚
We’re back, baby—and I missed the absolute chaos of this town. The drama. The charm. The ever-iconic Prudence doing the most. I was counting down the days for this book and let me tell you: it. did. not. disappoint. Getting to catch up with the Flying crew too? Peak serotonin.
Mateo? A whole soft king. Written with the kind of warmth and charm that makes everyone fall for him—myself included. And Nessa? Whew. Smart, grounded, a little too self-sacrificing for my liking (I felt attacked... girl, we need to breathe!) but total queen energy. The way this book handled mental health? Gentle, respectful, and clearly researched. Chef’s kiss.
Now, let's talk about the real magic: the banter. The slow burn. The will-they-won’t-they tension that had me feral in the best way. These two? Fire. And the growth—both personal and as a couple—was genuinely moving. My heart shattered a few times, but Jordana patched me up with humor, messy chosen family moments, and some incredibly satisfying character arcs.
All in all, this story had the perfect balance of heart, heat, and healing. Sweet, spicy, and just emotionally unhinged enough to make you feel everything. Highly recommend grabbing tissues and diving in.
Fighting is second book in the Peacock Springs series but can be read as a standalone book.
Mateo Santos-Manolo has returned to town after being jaded with the city. Dr. Nessa Rabin is best friends with Mateo’s younger sister, Stef. She also has a PhD in Psychology, works at the local hospital, and hosts a podcast on sex and relationships called ‘Flicking the Bean with Dr. Rabin.’
The pair are loathe to love with Mateo being a cinnamon roll male lead while Nessa is more of a black cat. Mateo will do anything for Nessa and is waiting for her to catch up. Nessa is strong willed, but it takes her some time to acknowledge her own weaknesses. The book has a bit of a rom com feel for the majority of the book, but touches on some dark issues.
Please be sure to read all the authors notes in the beginning of the book as well as the content warning. Racism, antisemitism, and abusive relationships are referenced.
What to expect: 🌳Contemporary small town romance 🌳Dual POV 🌳Multicultural relationship (Filipino American & Jewish) 🌳Found family 🌳Best friends older brother 🌳One night stand 🌳Fake dating (sort of) 🌳He falls first 🌳Opposites attract 🌳Mental health rep 🌳Toys are teammates 😉
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
“We’re both dealing with who we are expected to be and who we want to be.”
The only thing wrong with Mateo is his choice in pizza toppings!
Short Synopsis: Nessa, a successful sex therapist, always puts herself last on the list. Fresh from a breakup, the last thing she expected was to fall into bed with the bride’s brother—a man she’s had claws out for since high school. Mateo is always up for a good time, that is until he loses his job. Instead of sulking, he home swaps with his sister to spend a few months in Peacock Springs.
When Nessa and Mateo find themselves co-chairs of the upcoming Sunflower Fest, a little white lie pushes Nessa and Mateo to play the part of happy couple—or risk the gentrification of their beloved hometown. Soon, it’s clear they are a force to be reckoned with… so long as they can survive each other.
My Thoughts: I loved being back in Peacock Springs for book two in this interconnected stand alone series! I loved the character cameos and tie-ins from book one, and loved meeting new characters in the process! Mateo and Nessa had all the tension and chemistry that kept me wanting more from them! I also loved the continuation of the mental health representation in this book!

Thank you to the author, Jordana Blake, for the gifted arc! All opinions are my own!
Fighting is the second book in the Peacock Springs series by Jordana Blake. It features MMC, Mateo Santos-Manolo. He plays the role of this reformed playboy, although the book does not go into details about his past relationships. We do get glimpses of what he was like… and it was kind of douche baggy.
The FMC, Nessa, is a strong, independent, and opinionated woman. Throughout the story, she tries to fight her feelings for Mateo. This is partly because she doesn’t want to get hurt and she believes Mateo to be a play boy. Intertwined into their relationships are their families and friends. Although it may seem like crazy town at times, they are all interconnected and loyal to each other.
I absolutely LOVED this second installment. Comparing it to book 1, I can honestly say that Jordana has grown so much as a writer! Her spicy scene development is a testament to this growth. I am so excited for book 3! This was an excellent read for me.
If you’re looking for a fun, flirty escape with just the right mix of heart and heat, this fast-paced romcom set in small-town New Jersey delivers on every level. With its quirky charm, sizzling chemistry, and effortlessly engaging writing, this book was an easy read that kept me smiling (and occasionally blushing) from start to finish.
At its core, this is a story about opposites attracting — and boy, do they ever. Nessa and Mateo couldn’t be more different, but their banter, tension, and undeniable spark make their journey totally addictive. The author does a great job of weaving in genuine emotion with steamy, sexy scenes that don’t hold back. There’s laughter, longing, and just enough drama to keep the pages turning.
The small-town setting adds a cozy, lived-in vibe that contrasts perfectly with the electric energy between the leads. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to move to a tiny New Jersey town, fall in love with someone who drives you crazy, and maybe find your own happily ever after.
Whether you’re a romcom addict or just in the mood for something spicy and sweet, this book hits the spot. Definitely one to recommend to friends — or reread when you need a pick-me-up.
Tropes: BFF’s brother, failed one night stand/second chance, town festivals, hilarity via group text chat, cinnamon roll MMC
This was my very first experience as an ARC reader and it didn’t disappoint! Fighting is such a sweet, multicultural Stars Hollow-esque palette cleanser from the more intense books I’ve read recently. Mateo is a millionaire real estate developer who returns to his childhood small town of Peacock Springs, NJ, where he reconnects with psychologist Nessa Rabin. Their emotional tango made me swoon! Although some heavier themes were included in the book, it was all enveloped in a very touching and romantic vibe.
This was book 2 in the series, and I hadn’t had a chance to read the first (yet), and was a little out of the loop in a few scenes that referenced previous characters, but overall the context still made sense and all the supporting characters were lovely and well developed.
The smut was carefully created and not gratuitous. Mateo, focusing on her pleasure, again just *swoon*
🦚Thank you Jordana for this eARC and allowing me to be on your team once again🦚
Back in Peacock Springs and it felt so good! I missed the framily, I missed the town antics, I missed the ever meddlesome Prudence. I was sooooo excited for this book and I was not disappointed.
Mateo and Nessa are the perfect equation for loathe to love. The PTSD rep in this book was something that really hit very close to home for me as I’ve been dealing with my own PTSD diagnosis from bad previous relationships for the better part of a year now. Jordana weaves in the mental health representation so well I can’t gush about it enough. In a time where I still question myself like Nessa does but comes to the same conclusions it’s so freeing feeling seen.
Mateo is trying to outrun a reputation he didn’t really want but never tried to disprove to get the girl. He’s the epitome of non toxic masculinity and I’m so here for it. (I’m a still a simp for River though.)
I loved Fighting just like I loved Flying. Highly recommend everyone check it out when it publishes on May 30 and if you haven’t read Flying yet what are you doing? Go read it now!
Oh. My. Goodness. I loved these two so much!! This was such a good book, and I loved getting to watch them come together! I loved Nessa and how she was such the quintessential oldest daughter, and her need to take care of everyone around her was so relatable and real. I loved that we got to see her drive and determination around her career along with her steadfast loyalty to her friends and family! And Mateo was such a brilliant character, and I loved how we got to see his insecurities right along with his confidence in his own abilities! Getting to see his vulnerabilities was such a wonderful thing, and his growth as he discovered what he wanted for his life was such perfection! These two coming together and growing together was so wonderful to watch, and I just so instantly fell in love with both of them!! Plus getting to be with the Peacock Springs crew is always a good time!! Overall this was super fun, and I read it in a day! It was absolutely so much fun!! 4.75 stars; 3 chili peppers
Tropes: - Best Friend's Brother - Fake Dating - Small Town - So Much Banter - Hurt/Comfort
Jordana Blake knows how to write a captivating romance. Her upcoming release “FIghting” follows our characters Mateo and Nessa. Nessa is a fierce, independent, ambitious woman. I loved her character development throughout the book, and how she still stuck with her core self, still while opening up and being vulnerable with Mateo. Mateo is a caring, protective, and charming man who yearns for Nessa pretty much the whole book. I loved their banter back and forth, still maintaining that original enemies to lovers type of dynamic. I love a good romance book with great tropes and this one has many of them. If you love small towns, fake dating, enemies to lovers, best friends brother, he falls first, and men who yearn, this book is definitely one you should add to your TBR. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read this ARC and I really enjoyed it. This book will be released on May 30th, so you won’t need to wait long! Thank you Jordana Blake and team for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I was so excited to be back in Peacock Springs - especially for Nessa & Mateo's story! Nessa is a headstrong psychiatrist who hosts a sex-positive podcast while her personal life is a mess. Mateo is her best friend's older brother who she's had beef with since high school, but the two ended up in bed together at her bff's wedding. Mateo can't forget her and Nessa only wants to move on - when the two get paired together to plan the town's Sunflower Fest they have to figure out how to work together. The banter between these two is top-tier and Mateo is obsessed with her, which drives her insane. The sexual tension between them is 🔥🔥🔥!
One of the best parts about this series is the "framily" - found family of friends (which includes some of their parents and siblings as well). All of the characters are so well-rounded and interesting and their friendship is inspiring.
Highly recommend this book! Thanks Jordana for the chance to ARC read - can't wait to come back to Peacock Springs again!
