Broken Walls

Ok I am going to jump straight into my review and not recap the book the blurb says it best, besides I really suck at that.
I was so excited for this book to release due to all the teasers I came across on Facebook. I mean hot cop ( Mick Lancelot) meets hot fire chief (Ryan Jordan) they start off with a steamy one-night stand. Both mc's have past hurts and baggage with crazy ass exes how can this story not be great right. Well unfortunately this book flopped big time for me.
Now don't get me wrong I love a good book full of fluff and insta love when I am in the mood but crap this book was shitting hearts, flowers and rainbows almost from the start. When we first meet Mick and Ryan they both claim to not want anything but sex and friendship. As soon Mick leaves the motel that Ryan is staying both mc's have the thought "I can't let that man go. I need that man in my life". The next thing you know one more hot sex session and the word baby is being tossed around and then bam their in love. I don't know to me for both mc's to have so much baggage and hurt from their crazy exes the trust just formed way to fast to be believable.
The one big thing that keep this from being even close to three stars was the use of two phrases " Brick walls" and "Broken Walls". I love getting to the part in the book where I learn how the title ties into the story. But as many times as these two things were said I could have made a drinking game out of it.
I really hate being the first one to leave a review and it be negative of all things :(

Awkward. Uncomfortable. Nothing subtle about this. The bricks fell out of the walls the two MCs had built around their hearts. The bricks are mentioned over 70 times. We get it. Also, would have been good to know timeline of this relationship...weeks? months?

I loved the idea behind this story line. The characters both have complex histories, and are struggling to move forward. More than a romance; Broken Walls contains elements of suspense, emotional discovery, passion, and adventure. The writing style is very abrupt, with short sentences and curt dialog. I initially had a hard time engaging with the characters, but realized that the forced nature of the storytelling mirrored the repressed emotions of the characters. As the story progressed, more about their history is revealed, and I began to appreciate the uniqueness of Broken Walls presentation. I felt that it would benefit from editing to smooth out some of the rougher edges, but overall I enjoyed the different feel and raw pacing that makes Broken Walls one of the more surprising stories I've read this year. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a sensual and suspenseful adventure that offers a change of pace from typical polished storytelling.

Im sorry. I really do. But this just.. ugh! Infuriating.
When i read the burb, im excited. Really excited. Two broken souls trying heal each other, lets just say thats my kind of book. I had high hope in this book. Until i read it.
at first i thought Mick as a marine and all that would be tough and badass. Or at least i thought he'd be too jaded with life and all but i found none of that. I tried to picture him in my head. Ex marine. A cop. With shattered soul. It last only for 2 chapter. Cause after that the person in my head somehow turns to be a girl. And no matter how hard i try to revert him back, i just cant get my first impression back. Seriously im at lost trying to built this man in my mind. And his problem with his ex is not much if a problem at all if he just freaking stand up for himself rather than hiding. He is a freaking marine with enough experience to war and he is scared of a guy seriously?? I cant get him like at all.
Then theres Ryan. At least he is okay and not bleeding heart on every freaking page. his last relationship problem is weird at best but dude thats like ancients ago why are u still hung up on that?? Sure u almost die, but upon meeting mick u just like head over heels. I believe in love at the firat sight but this is just not cut it. I cant even feel anything between the two mc
None of their banter and flirt feels real at all. No chemistry at all for all i know.
I read this book with a frown instead of smile or even raise an eyebrow

In some stories you're already half way trough reading before you figure out why the book is named a certain way but in this one there was just an overload with broken walls brick walls after a while it just pissed me off!
I found the story hmm just okay too much angst and drama for my taste.

Enough with the brick metaphors already! It was nearly enough to stop me reading what was potentially a lovely book. A good editor would make a great story from this.

this book could have great potential, however it lacked the angst that was needed for this story line.
the book is meant to be able to men who have built walls around there hearts, so i would have thought it would have taken awhile for the men to fall in love and to trust another man again. however it was another love at first sight story. where after they sleep together they both realised they need the other man in their life. whereas after what they two had gone through in their pasts i would have expected the men to get to know each other better before giving nicknames and practically living together.

The storyline was weak. Two characters with alleged baggage fall in love in the first 10 or so chapters,now mind you this book has about 33-35 and each chapter is maybe 2-6 pages. It's fast paced which makes everything happen fast. You have asshole ex boyfriends on both sides. None of it is realistic, or maybe really realistic and just cheesy and cliche. I read it only because it was free. This is not a book I'd pay for. There's no character depth or development. The writing sucks too. It's all dialog with no sense. It's all face value writing, no scenery, or overall depth.

DNF @ 35%. I tried, I really did. I felt like bashing my head against those bloody bricks. You both have walls, they're coming down, we get it. Also, badass officer & firefighter, or little girls? Who survives being whipped by their ex but contemplates suicide because their s/o won't tell him about their past??? I'm not all that curious about how it ends. I'm assuming Elliot will show up at some point and Peter will act up again somehow. Yawn

Il y a clairement un problème dans le rythme du livre. L'insta-love et les évènements sont trop rapides!
Je n'arrive pas à accrocher aux personnages, ils se disent blessés et ayant du mal à passer à autre chose mais ils font tout pour pousser l'autre à la confidence...chercher l'erreur!
Malheureusement, ça ne le fait pas pour moi.

Sweet love story that really shouldn't have been more than a one night stand if you believed the MCs. They had 'walls' 'brick' ones at that. Very sugary sweet story that had a bit of drama. There was chemistry and a connection between the men. If you want fluff its a good book.

Corny
All I can say is this book was soon corny. I read it all because I have book ocd but not a favorite. I did enjoy the surrounding characters but overall not such a great book. I will say the editing was better than some bigger authors out there but that's about it.

Great Story of small town life
Great Story. I love stories about people who serve and protect. The setting of the small town was wonderful.
The author needs a little work on finding the characters voices, otherwise it was a great story.

I have to agree with the other reviewers that bricks, brick wall and broken walls were mention so to many times that they could of built an addition to Mick's house from all of the bricks.
I did like the story but timeline would have been nice as well.

I really wanted to love this book
I really liked the way this book sounded but it just didn't work for me. I stopped reading at 59%. The premise is good and it has a great set up for future books but it just lacked emotions. Even the sex scenes seemed emotionless to me.

I enjoyed this book. The characters Mitch, and Ryan you will fall in love with. They had such hard and complexes lives. A good book.
