This is a practical volume which reflects how treatment programmes can be compatible with the reality of service delivery and mental health provision in an organisational context. It also supports both training and clinical practice by presenting examples of clinical cases to illustrate the assessment, treatment planning and implementation processes of CBT for psychosis.
* Based on extensive clinical experience and real life service settings * Deals with the roles of several mental health disciplines, as they combine in the these treatment programmes * Cases from a variety of inpatient, outpatient community * Describes techniques used with the full range of symptoms
This is one of the few collections of case studies where the actual cases discussed aren't just trivial examples of specific disorders or specific psychotherapy approaches, but rather well presented stories of people with severe delusional thinking that is explored collaboratively and effectively in cognitive therapy sessions. I find it rather amazing how CBT can significantly improve the quality of life of people suffering from schizophrenia, who are otherwise completely unresponsive to medication or other therapeutic approaches. Nice strike in favor of cognitive therapy & analysis, which, IMO, is such a tremedously insightful and useful understanding of the human mind, that it should be regularly taught alongside with reading, writing and riding a bike!
