A new look for an important message: In 1992 the trustees of the Ellen G. White Estate, in cooperation with Pacific Press Publishing Association, released a new compilation of Ellen White statements about the end times entitled Last Day Events.
In brief, Ellen Gould Harmon White was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe ... , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church.
I'm surprised and delighted that goodreads has this book available to review. This must be why they stay at the top on the net, eh. Last Day Events is a collection of Ellen G. White's writings highlighting end times prophecies. I find her writings to be helpful in my daily life while watching politics and religion play out on the world's stage. Anybody paying attention can see a one world government joining with a one world church that will have full control over the masses. If you want some advanced warning about how God will save the faithful and how you can play a part, read this book.
This book is very informative and its based on understanding the oldest book that exist the Bible Its book of revalation. It like a study guide to understanding all the prophaceys and symbols and parabols that are in the bible and getting a better understanding of what the bible tring to say and what it means. she a grat author i really enjoy the way shes rights she very inspiring
Well worth your time to read just for her insight alone, opening your mind to how things may possibly end. If anything, it presents the reader and any protestant believer some serious things to watch for. Being a beliver in the true biblical seventh day Sabbath, I appreciate the insight but remain skeptical as to her beliefs on how things will end. To enforce a worldwide Sunday law would affect all seventh day belivers, Jewish, Muslim, and protestant Christians alike. Could it happen? I'd put nothing past the things that could go on in our current world events. Will Rome be involved? Anyone who has seriously studied the history of Rome, the Vatican church, the early AND later church "fathers", and has absorbed the details of the book of Revelation and Daniel will clearly see that their involvement will be absolute. Since before Christianity, Rome has been in the spotlight of all events since early times. A leader in the persecutions of many. Think not that this could happen again!
Those are just my thoughts regarding this work of EGW. I don't like the take of her writings becoming organized religion. Organized religion, in my eyes, creates a system of "we are right, you are wrong" attitude. Fellowship is necessary to discuss our differences but not separate us under the banner of Christ. We have to learn to be in perfect harmony with each other and Christ. For Christian believers, Christ first, then everything else will fall into place.
This book explains some of the core beliefs of Seventh Day Adventists. Similar to Mormons or Johova’s Witnesses, SDA is an alternative branch of Christianity which started in the late 1800s. I read the first few pages, and then skimmed the rest. This book is a collection of quotes/citations from early SDA texts.
My take is that they believe that: *The end is nigh *Cities are bad *Unions are bad *Eating meat, dairy and eggs is bad *Only 144’000 people can get to heaven (if I read that section correctly) *Being as healthy as possible is very important (no alcohol, smoking, caffeine, etc)
As someone who doesn’t believe in any god, a lot of this book fell on deaf ears. However, many of SDAs’ beliefs coincide with my own: Veganism, countryside, growing your own produce, getting healthy, being a part of a community, etc is great. But Unions are a good thing IMO, scaring people with hell and the apocalypse is nonsense, being ‘pure’ is bs, and with regards to caffeine etc, I think let people make their own choices.
Amazing! I know that science and nature tells us about ozone layers, global warming, climate change, plagues and the end of the world. The Holy Bible has prophesied the things we are experiencing today thousands of years ago. This book is recommended for those who already read the Holy Bible from cover to cover. It’s a compilation of excerpts from other books so some people maybe confused on the flow of the book.
So this is where Ellen White seems to stray from her writings and becomes more extrabiblical than I am comfortable with. The Bible proves the Bible. The few bits in the Conflict of the Ages series was fine - because she continues to point to the Bible. I trust that this wasn't her design, but was instead someone else's work.
This book was very relevant for the time that we are living in now. Everyone wants to know what will happen at the end of time. Reading along with the Bible, the author explains the end-time signs and how to be prepared for these events.
Powerful reading for current times and conditions. Thoughtfully presented for all who are interested in learning more about God’s character through Jesus.
