Henley Hendrix has been a guitar prodigy since the age of 12, and has grown up in rock-n-roll her entire life. By the age of 22 she was the Queen of rock-n-roll, and lead singer/guitarist in her band Abandoned Shadow. Women wanted to be her, and men simply wanted her. Tragedy strikes and she walks away from music for four years. She spends four years attempting to pick up the pieces of her life, then she is slowly pulled back to the only things she has ever loved, music and Jagger Carlyle.
Jagger is People's Sexiest Man Alive, and rock's biggest bad boy, and every woman wants to bed him, while every man wants to be him. Jagger presses her to tour with his and her brother's band, Broken Access, and sparks fly. Her eyes are opened back up to music, and to the boy she fell in love with in the sixth grade.
The journey is marked by Henley's fears of her past, and how to proceed with her music career. She is surrounded by comic relief, and most of all love, but will the pressures of the rich and famous be too much after her sabbatical? Will the cameras and the women be too much for her?
Sasha Marshall is a romance author with an inexplicable attraction to fictional men who probably wouldn’t return her texts in real life. Before channeling her attention deficit disorder into crafting happily-ever-afters, she spent her days as a professional herder of teenagers—think cats, but with more attitude and fewer survival instincts. Prior to that therapeutic experience, she documented the slow descent into madness that comes with touring alongside The Allman Brothers Band, wielding her camera like a weapon against sleep deprivation and questionable tour bus hours.
These days, when she’s not forcing her characters into compromising positions (literally—it’s called “romantic tension”), you can find her being emotionally manipulated by her two dogs, pretending her loved ones don’t secretly judge her book covers, engaging in crafts that look nothing like the Pinterest inspiration, or orchestrating literary chaos through Hot & Steamy Events—because apparently organizing book signings is what passes for a social life in the romance world.
She writes about bad boys with tattoos because, let’s face it, someone has to give these fictional delinquents the character development they desperately need.
WTF, this is the Biggest catfish romance novel of all time! If you only read this first book in the series, then this is a beautiful, emotional love story about friendship and unrequited love.
The first book doesn't have cheating, has one of the strongest heroines of all time, but it ends in a horrible cliffhanger and in later books, the author destroys this first book. This first book reads like a normal romance novel... you should stop here.
I did love this author's writing, but I wanted to spoil this series for you because if I had known what was in store, I would've NEVER read it and there are hardly any spoilers elsewhere.
WARNING: SPOILERS for 1-2-3-4 BOOKS. Going to make this quick, because I am lazy.
- The h/H don't even end up together at the end of the series. Yup, the H in this book is actually the OM, but they spend 3 books together, so you feel like he is "the one," hence the catfishing the author pulled, I cant believe this series is label as a romance series, its more like trashy rockstar fiction, another jerry spring shitshow story.
-So in this first book, our h's best friend dies in a car crash (she was the passenger), she lives but he doesnt. They've been BFF since they were little kids, so this hurts and we feel it because the writing is good.
-The heroine's been in love with her brother's best friend, Jagg, the bad boy rock star, since she was in the 6th grade and he her, both in secret, and this tragedy bring everyone together and they're finally able to become a couple. Their love story is cute, emotional, and I felt like they were soulmates, etc....
-Then the book ends with a horrible cliffhanger - there is a HUGE secret that the H hid from her and she finds out...
In book 2; She finds out that H is having a baby with one of his one night stands but he hid it from her, because he wanted a chance with the h. The ONS happened 2 months before they got together (OW was 7 months along), but he's been calling the OW every week to check up on her, going to the doctor with her, buying her baby things, etc. Its a huge betrayal and she finds out about it when the world does - in the news. He wasn't sure if the baby was his, so he wanted to share after the paternity test.
-So she, rightfully, struggles to deal with this betrayal, she pulls away from him, he's trying to get her back - but they're still sexing.
- H continues to break her heart with this OW+ baby - brings the OW to their family Christmas gathering, where everyone is there to see them - because his parents were happy about this baby...
- the h finds out that she's having the H's baby too by miscarrying it. More heartache for her.
- then the baby is born, and the H finds out that he's NOT the father so what does he do? He walks away from the h - gives up on them, and has sex with other women in graphic, brutal detail. This cheating/betraying scene is very detailed, graphic, he's aroused by these hot women, actually, OW sex scenes were hotter and he comes hard. He goes even further by making one of them his new GF (hot new lingerie supermodel).
- H (Jag) brings his new hot VS supermodel GF to a wedding that the h will be attending to rub it in her face. Tells the h that he's fucks the girl but he makes love to the h, when the h says she won't let him have sex with her when his new GF is downstairs.
- h is hurt, so she has good sex with OM (its also detailed, but I was so friggin happy to see a h with a normal sex drive)
- So things like this go on, the H just hurts her over and over and over.... and other things happen to the h that makes her turn to drugs and she has to go to rehab.
- Book 3-4 I skimmed most of it, because I was just done with this crappy "romance" novel. After rehab, he tells her he will finally make things right, blah blah...but of course he cheats and screws up again, he even tells her " she should've died instead of her BFF" ( remember when her BFF died in book 1, yea, he’s telling her she should’ve died instead)... I mean wow.. What a douche...
- I skimmed lots, but we find out that Kip - her other BFF from childhood, a drummer from Jaggs band- loves her, so they become a couple and have amazing sex. he even has a pierced penis, and she falls in love with him and moves on from Jagg. Thank fuck.
- End of book 4, we find out that Kip - cheated on the h too lol. Its like everyone cheats on this poor h. Its kinda funny at this point.
- Book 5 I refuse to read. Don't give a crap.
If you want a book that you cant put down, you want to read a train wreck then you should pick this up. It kept my attention, but I didnt enjoy reading it. I want to go bleach my brain actually.
This was an adult contemporary romance about a group of rock stars.
Henley was an okay character, and I felt quite sorry for her with regards to the car accident that she was involved in.
The storyline in this was about Henley coming back to music after a break, and starting a relationship with Jagger, a man she had been friends with for most of her life. The romance was probably the best part of the story for me, and we did get a couple of steamy sex scenes.
That’s seriously all I’ve been having as far as words go these past two days. I told Miss Marshall yesterday I would have this review ready, but I just couldn’t I seriously needed the time to come to term with “WTH??!!” No joke. I needed to put a few of my thoughts, emotions, and just downright tears into perspective in order to do this book justice…..
This story is unlike any rock story I have read thus far this year, I mean it was real, raw, dirty, and straight just true life through a book. Family and friends are lost and every time you see hope there’s more heartache, I was seriously putting my book down every other chapter because I just couldn’t take it anymore. Hanley Hendrix is a rock goddess on the guitar, no one can do it, play it, or sing it better than her, four years ago she dealt with some so unbelievably traumatic that she dropped off the scene only to show back up with her brother’s band on tour and her taking pics, but on the arm of the hottest man in rock n roll Jagger.
I truly love Henley and the fact that Miss Marshall didn’t make a male the “STAR” of this book rather the woman who can kick ass just as good as any man. Jagger is freaking amazing all the way through this book, and THEN he messes up, but even after that you are left saying “oh girl take him back damn take him back” because that’s just the guy he is. Now I do not in any way approve of things he says or does, but his heart is made for Henley and I could totally see them married. P.S. That ass hat is carrying a heavy secret and it took me a while to notice that something just isn’t right…hmmm….
You go into the past a few times in Henley’s mind with her, but I didn’t even find that annoying as I usually do, it all just clicked and made since that those would be the memories she has whole going through things in the present. The final scene in the book, which, yes does lead to a cliffy, just rocked me and had me messaging Sasha with “what the hell happened? You cannot do that!” LOL. I seriously got invested in these characters and NEED to finish their story. 5+5+5+5 STARS!!!!
A friend, and I quote, "begged" me to read this book, and I must admit she knows my tastes quite well. But oh my, I was not quite prepared for the extent of the emotional rollercoaster.
This one would get five stars simply because I can only think of one other book that came close to the emotional impact this one had on me. I don't do emotions when I read, even though I like books much better when I can connect with the characters. I am just not a crier. This one had me in tears the first time on page 17. Nope, that simply isn't possible, but oh my, did it hit and hit hard. Even more impressive (I think?) Is that this book had me intears a minimum of 5 times...I lost count at some point. And that doesn't include the number of tears that came from laughing so hard. Those usually involved Kip. He is such a freaking character! I love that in a person, and simply adore it in, well, characters.
Grandpa....he doesn't come up too often in the book, but every time he does, it is pretty epic. Legendary man, even more lengendary friends and tales involving them. I saw some complaints in other reviews about mixing in real life musicians with fictional ones, but personally I had absolutely no problem with it, especially since they were all in flashbacks with Grandpa. They were some very legendary names, and I don't think a reader could truly grasp the importance of Grandpa as a legend in the music business without them. I will make no secret that I am a huge Johnny Cash fan, but the story Henley told in flashback involving him was awesome.
Kip....yes, he could be crude and inappropriate, but I simply adored him. He was amusing to no end as was the way Henley, and the Koi and Jagger could goad him on and burst his bubble was classic. I noticed a reviewer said he didn't come through in time of crisis....and I had to wonder if that reviewer read the same book I did? Or if they just skipped the tougher scenes Ll together? Because I saw him step up at every single one of them, especially the big one in the beginning.
Koi - the perfect big brother. I am a bit of a sucker for strong sibling bonds, but these two were amazing together. They had their own emotional moments at different places in the book, but they knew each other inside out, and love underlied every single interlude. Allthough I had some problems keeping Henley's girlfriends straight, I still liked him and the one he eventually latched on to and I thoughf they were really good together,
Cam....the quiet one. I don't feel like I really got to know him, vut what I did see, I adored. Loved his romantic side - I think he had the whole romance concept down pat, moreso than any other character, though there is no denying Jag was close.
Jag and Henley....of course I saved the best for last. These two had such incredible chemistry, and though they were a large part of the emotional roller coaster syndrome, they truly resonated with me. I can't say most of what I would like to about them without going into spoiler category, over 90% of the book he was every woman's dream, rockstar or not. He is pretty amazing at the boyfriend game.
Definitely for the 18 and over crowd. Steamy scenes are good and really not overy graphic in most places. Never did it feel gratuitous.
Oh one more must mention item - the song lyrics. I read at least one reviewer said the were stupid, i vehemently disagree. Several of my crying fits were related to my tears. I found them extremely touching.
And speaking of touching, I almost for got to mention Noah. I hope we get an update In future books. And since I brought up future books, this one does end with a pretty intense cliffhanger, but since the next 4 books are already out, and I already have the next two on my Kindle, I am not going to dwell on that. One last thing I will addressis yes, I did find a few issues that an editor or proofreader should have caught, but honestly, there were not too difficult to overlook. After reading in the author's bio that she has Aspberger's, I am more impressed with every part of the story, and even more willind to over look the handful of errors at most.
As long as you can handle an incredibly emotional read, some language that some find offensive, some adult consensual physical relations, I couldn't recommend this book more.
When I started reading this book I had just finished another rock star romance that rocked my feelings. So I thought why not try this one since I've had it in my kindle for weeks.
I began reading and hated to know that Henley lost her best friend in the beginning. I felt so sad while reading the car accident and stopped reading it. I decided to continue the reading hours later and did not regret it.
The story was amazing. Henley is a nice woman who has been grieving her friend for years and decided to return to live and not just survive. It's really good to see the steps that leads her to be a new Henley.
She goes on tour with her brother's band and gets herself involved with Jagger, her brother's best friend and also a secret love that she bears since she was an early teenager. It's beautiful to see their feelings getting stronger.
Aside from the romantic scenes she realizes that she misses playing guitar and starts to think about reunite her band Abandoned Shadows in order to record a new album. In the end of the book she gets herself in a complicated situation that makes you eager to read the next one.
I really enjoyed reading it and already bought the next two. Can't wait to see what's coming next!
Sasha Marshall created a true-to-life rock-n-roll world that makes you want to quit your job and go on tour with the gang! The friendships are so real, the characters are well developed, and the music is more than a passing reference. You can tell the author has a real love for music and she is able to reference actual music and write fictional lyrics seamlessly. The love story between Henley and Jagger is a slow-burn for a bit, then you get to see them fall in love and it feels amazing. But, Marshall's characters are complex, flawed, and interesting - and that leads to trouble. The book ends and leaves you aching for more. Happy to see this is only the start for this addictive series!
This is such a amazing book/series. This story brings every emotion out. You seriously won't want to put it down. I'm not giving anything away so I'm keeping this short. Just read it you won't be disappointed.
This story is about love between a man and a women, friends and family. It made me laugh, cry and get hot and bothered. It is a beautifully written story, with one heck of a cliffhanger! I'm starting book 2 immediately! Great story, great characters, and great writing!
Being a huge rocker romance fan, Guitar Face is the best of the best in my opinion. This is NOT a "cookie-cutter" book series. Ya know the kind I'm referring to ... mega, hot rocker falls for average girl whose friend drags her to the concert ... insults and mushy words are exchanged ... within two days they are soul mates for life. Nope, you will definitely NOT find any of that stuff in this book. What you will find is a good, bad and ugly realistic version of the life of a rock star told by none other than the Guitar Goddess herself, Henley Hendrix.
Unlike most romance books that only serve a leading male/female tossed with a best friend in the mix, this book is filled with a very colorful cast of characters Not only does the author dish up one hunky rocker to fall in love with, she gives you four, five, six ... I think I lost count ... and a nice side of girlfriends. There is never a dull moment(Henley, Koi, Jagger, Kip ... what awesomely cool names?!?!?!) You will definitely find a book boyfriend to fill your fantasies. (Most readers love Kip, and I do to, but I have weakness for Koi!)
Sasha Marshall is a natural and gifted storyteller pulling the reader in and not letting go, not even on the last page ... what was the phone call about????? Plot concept is original and the story flows effortlessly, top notch character dialog and, thankfully, without a great deal of inner monologue.
I must warn you, this book will make you feel every range of emotion known to mankind. You WILL need Kleenex for both sad and happy tears. There is loss, lust, love, legacy and laugh-out-loud lunacy ... did I use enough "L" words???? :o) Other non-L descriptive words would be raw, gritty, broken, crude, titillating, gut-wrenching, hysterical, raunchy, hopeful, redemption and happily-ever-after????? ... ohhh, I dunno ... gotta read it!
I would definitely recommend this book. It is the first in the series. Book two, There's No Crying In Rock and Roll is already out. Book three, Walking Back to Georgia will be released June 26, 2015 and there is a fourth book in the works. Other books similar to Guitar Face that I would recommend are The Back Up Series by A.M. Madden, Carnage by Lesley Jones, and Wallbanger by Alice Clayton (this isn't a rocker romance but it's flippin' hilarious and well written).
Guitar Face is the story of Henley who started playing the guitar at age 5 and was a prodigy by age 12. She's the lead singer of the band Abandoned Shadow touring with her brother's band Broken Access. All of them are super close having grown up together. Then a tragedy happens (full out cried while reading as it happened and still get choked up thinking about it) and Henley not only stops playing music, but she travels the world trying to find peace.
She returns home to photograph a Broken Access concert and comes face to face with her brother's best friend, Jagger who she has been in love with since the sixth grade. The chemistry between them is off the charts. I love the banter between all of them especially Kip. He is hilarious, sweet, naughty, and inappropriate, but damn if that didn't make me crush on him just a little harder. He made me laugh and I just love him. The moment where everyone working on the tour lines up to protect her with their hands on their hearts slayed me. With her mom and dad dropping off a suitcase Henley finds out that Jagger has conspired to get her to come out on tour with them. She agrees and while on tour the guys all work together to get Henley playing music again. I love that it was a little boy that got her to pick up her guitar again. At the same time she and Jagger being their relationship which has its challenges. You can't help but want a happily ever after for two people who have loved each other since they were kids.
Henley aka Guitar Goddess is the prodigy guitar player. She comes from a line of guitar players and musicians. Henley's grandfather is her inspiration including his friends. They taught her to play, she had her own band by a young age and they are all her childhood friends. They made it in the music industry on there own merits. Henley's brother Koi also learned to play and started his own band also childhood friends. Henley and Koi's band were both touring together with other bands also they day tragedy hit. It was the end of their concert and were having some time off before the next venue started. Everyone was going back home to Georgia. Henley and Caleb got a head start going home. Caleb was driving and they were making plans on what they were going to do, and that was to go fishing. When they felt a bump and when Caleb looks back he sees the car. They get hit by a drunk driver and their car flips a few time. Did they survive? Was anyone seriously hurt? YOu really need to read this book in order to find out. This book takes you on a journey.
Came across this as a freebie and it sure looked right up my alley for rock star reads. I flew thru this book like a bat outta hell. Great story, awesome chemistry & drama with a doozy of a cliff hanger so be sure to have book 2 on hand...I actually bought it immediately after finishing this one. I really loved every single character in this story and continue to love them. Kip is hilarious, what a funny character, then again, he IS a drummer! Jagger is killing me with his issues and making me love him & then hate him again. While I've really enjoyed this story, it really needs a run through by an editor or even just a proofreader, it has a lot of typos and it's the first book in five! While "There's no crying in rock & roll, book #2" is a bit better in the editing it also still has many typos and comma misses. If that type of thing bugs ya, you may have issues. The story definitely outweighs the issues for me!
Excellent book! I didn't want to put it down. I love the story and will be reading the next book immediately after writing this quick review. This is a steamy, rockstar romance. Yet, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the scenes (thanks to a comical character). It's also kind of sad. The main character losses someone close to her. I recently lost someone close to me and it was a little hard for me to read without thinking of my own life, but it made the story so good. I feel like there are so many layers to this book besides it being a romance and that is part of what makes the story wonderful.
Note: This book has a lot of cussing and if you find that offensive, this isn't the book for you. Also, there is a cliffhanger, but I think it's going to be a predictable finding. We'll see, though.
Don't miss out on this book, especially if you like rockstar romances!
A must read!!! For anyone who likes a book that will grab you by the heart strings, make you feel like you're in another world and the characters are your BFF's... This book is for you!!!
It is a cliffy though. I didn't realize that but it's so well written I don't even care except for my need to feed the monster that must read the next book!
I didn't sleep last night. I can barely write a coherent thought because I finished the book rather then take a nap after I came home because I was forced to leave the house at 8 and be a "productive member of society" after reading all night since the rest of the world doesn't recognize my need to read. Believe me... I love sleep... That's not normal.
I hope she writes wickedly fast! I'm not sure I can wait another six months honestly...
I was provided a copy of this book for an honest review. This book...how do I tell you how much I loved this book?!The emotions I went through while reading this story makes it a 5 star read for me! You fall right into the rock star life by meeting two rock'n'roll bands whose members have grown up together...and they are all HOT! The characters in this book have you cherishing their friendships, falling in love, laughing out loud, crying with heartbreak and you never want it to end! Then the book ends with a crazy cliffhanger...hurry up Sasha I need to know what happens next!! P.S. Jagger Carlyle is the smokin hot bad boy rocker but I LOVE Kip for all his craziness :)
OMG WOW are my first thoughts about this book! This is the first book that I have read by author Sasha Marshall and boy did she deliver. I don't remember a book that I have laughed and cried so much as I read it. The characters are believable with a great chemistry and the plot and story line flow easy and naturally through out the entire book. I read this book in one day because I just couldn't put it down, I had to know what happens next. I really do hate cliff hangers but thankfully book two is already out so I don't have to wait to find out WTF happened. I have already bought and downloaded book 2 ready to read.
How the hell did I NOT write a review after reading this over a year ago? - Maybe it was I NEVER read anything like it, or I has such a book hangover that my mind finally cleared (ok that's a bit of a stretch) I have read hundreds of books since the 80's and I will say I can count on 1 hand how many stories have stuck with me as this one has. This is the beginning of an amazing journey and be very thankful you do not have to wait for the next one. Real characters you will want to hang out with - Real situations - Real life and it ain't pretty, but it is brilliant.
I start this crying so I knew it be a great read! As got to the end I have a feeling what comes next isn't going to be what I hope it be, but I guess it's not my story to tell. So for I can't wait to get to it!!!!
What an exciting series. Well written, great plot, love the characters and it kept my emotions going thro the book. Absolutely loved it. You will definitely love it!
THIS WAS CRAZY GOOD!!! I wasn’t sure how to start off with this review because it was so good that I wanted to catch anyone who liked rock romance books and had a chance to read this, to do so. This is the first time I read this author and I can only hope that she will put out more rock romance series.
This book had me all over the place with emotions and believe me Ms. Marshall took you there to the max. I will start out on the lighter side; when I look for a rock romance book I wouldn’t necessarily be drawn to it if someone said it had humor. I’m sure changing that opinion now after reading this book. It not only made me smile but had me outright laughing on some of the dialogue. This humor was throughout the book and wasn’t just some little snippet.
Another aspect of the book that I liked was how she brought in the real life rock bands and famous people and did so in a way that didn’t seem just like name-dropping. By the way I really like Seether too so that made this all the more fun for me.
Now for the harder part…there were some terribly gut wrenching parts in this book that I don’t think I will forget anytime soon. Again, whether you like it or not you can feel the emotions of Henley when she has to deal with her best friend and their accident. I have to say that I actually had tears running down my face at some of this. Ms. Marshall had Henley dealing with this for quite some time and it made it seem more real because we know that when something like this happens in real life you don’t get “over it” within 1 or 2 chapters time.
And for those of you who like a little “spice” with your rock romance books, Ms. Marshall sure delivered on that aspect also. I would love to meet Jagger myself! The relationship of Henley and Jagger was one that had you rooting for them and would make you wonder what you would do if in Henley’s situation. I also loved the relationship of Henley and Koi and with Kip’s sense of humor you grew to love these people.
Ms. Marshall would be someone I definitely would want to hang out with because if she can write with this sense of humor I can only imagine what she is like in real life! Now I’m off to read the second book in this series because I have to find out what that phone call was about!!
OMG....I think I found the beginning of my favorite non-biker series. I really don't read musician romance books but this one was highly recommended so I gave it a try. Guitar Face by Sasha Marshall is sooo well written, I could not put it down!! I laughed out loud, I teared up at times, felt Henley's heartbreak, joy, humor, felt Jagger's love for Henley. The story, characters, comradery of the group. Loved it all and I can't wait to begin reading the second book!
I loved this book! Henley was such amazing character. I think that everyone would lovevto have a person like her in their lives for all the good, bad, and the wild. I cant wait to start the second book. The onky thing I didnt like was the cliffhanger. I wanted more now I need to buy the second book so I find out what happens next.
What a sad and emotional start to a fantastically written book! Plenty of humour provided predominately by Rip & Rhys - love those guys. Was great having a strong female rock star - guitar goddess who more than held her own amongst the guys from both her own band & her brothers. Highly recommend.
This is a must read. It is an Amazing heart torn from your chest read. Ms Marshall put her heart and soul in this book and it shows. It's a page turner that holds you until the end. Don't miss out. Read the book.
This book is the first in a series & I can't wait to read the others. The story has romance, comedy, drama, explicit sex & very realistic characters. I was devastated with the cliffhanger ending. I started reading this book & could not put it down.
I am a true book worm and the more I read the harder it is for me to get interested in a book. So it has to really jump out at me. Sasha Marshall was able to suck me in from the start! Had the entire series reading 2 days!!
This story pulls you in from the beginning and has you wanting more and the end. Sasha Marshall weaves the story so well your heart is pounding, your eyes are watering and your laughing th whole way through.
Great story! Henley despite her rocker status is so relatable! You pull for her in a way only characters that touch your heart make you do! I absolutely couldn't put this one down! A great start to an awesome series!
