Just You #3

Until Now

Rate this book
Until Now is the third novel in the Just You series, but can also be read as a stand-alone. A New Adult romance intended for mature readers.

Only two things are keeping Robin Calvert on the right track: the support of her best friend Taylor, and Drake and Lila, her three-year-old twin siblings. Former party girl turned dedicated college student, Robin strives to be a good role model for her younger brother and sister. But when her mother disappears, and her stepfather ships the twins off to live with their grandparents, the stable life she’s worked so hard to maintain comes crumbling down around her.

Without her siblings around to motivate her, she backslides to her old reckless ways—vodka, hangovers, and bad boys who give her nothing but trouble. One bright spot is Jane, the grandmotherly stranger who takes Robin under her wing and welcomes her into her big, loving family. There, she forms an unexpected connection with Jane’s son, Ryan, a divorced single dad whose pale blue eyes make her question her policy against dating guys with kids.

Ryan has baggage of his own, but the closer Robin gets to both him and his family, the more she understands what it truly means to be home.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I can't say I hated this book but I didn't really like it either. It was well enough written but I did not like the heroine and the hero wasn't fleshed out well enough for me to care about him. She seemed to have all the problems and hangups and he was too close to perfect. I wanted to like her but she fell back into old habits again and again, never learning from her mistakes until the end when, boom, all was right with the world. Like I said, the author writes well and I think with some better plotting she could produce some really entertaining books. But for me, this wasn't one.

I purchased this story immediately upon completion of the first two stories in the series as I was eager to see how the story would conclude. I was left slightly confused at first.

As warned in the synopsis of the story, this is in the NA genre and can be read as a stand alone. Ok, I get that as I have read many stories in a series as stand alones without confusion. What was confusing is that the first two stories are YA and fans of the series may be in for a shock thinking they are going to get more of the same with this one. Wrong. This is completely different. While Taylor and Michael have background roles in this book, it is not about their journey. I feel that this should not have been marketed as part of this series if only to let the story stand on its own. It doesn't blend with the rest of the story.

That being said, I was interested to see where Robin's story took us as she was a supporting character in the first two books. As I am of the correct demographic I was able to make the leap to NA from the relatively clean versions of the previous two books.

I don't know where to start with this. I had a love/hate relationship going on with Robin. Her heart was absolutely in the right place when it came to her twin siblings, her head was completely messed up with her own life. I mean, come on! you meet a perfect guy who you are obviously attracted to and you just let your life spiral out of control? I was completely frustrated with Robin's lack of judgement throughout the story. Don't even get me started on Cody. I could write an entire blog post or two about the utter slime ball he was which made it even more difficult to support Robin. It got to the point that when any mention of going to Fusion occurred I wished there was a fast forward button.

On the flip side, it was love a first site for Ryan and his son. Of course it was! The way he was so devoted to his son and did I mention that he was attractive? The icing on the cake? He worked in a book store....my total dream man! His attraction to Robin was obvious at first however as the book evolved I really don't know why he didn't walk away without looking back. He seemed so centered compared to Robin. Did I mention that I also loved his mom Jane? I loved how she was so clearly playing matchmaker.

Now that the series is completed I will say that I wish this story was written in a way that it was not affiliated with the series. That would have allowed me to judge it on it's own merit. As a result I didn't enjoy this as much as the others which may not have been fair to the plot. On its own I most likely would have had a better time with the story

I received a complimentary e-copy of Until Now in exchange for an honest review.

It's been said that even though it's book 3 in the Just You series, Until Now can be read without having read the prior two books, since this one focuses on Robin Calvert and the other books were about Taylor Brogan. However, every instance where I've read a book that is part of a series, I always want to go back and read the series from the beginning just so I will recognize all of the characters and already be aware of their history. So I did go and read both Just You (#1) and Someone Else (#2) and then immediately jumped into Until Now.

Robin is a former party girl who changed her destructive habits 3 years ago when her twin brother and sister were born, as she felt she needed to be a good role model for them. She wanted to be a better role model than their mother had been to her. But then Mother dear decides that she wants to escape her life and leaves town without a word to anyone, leaving the 3-year-old twins, Robin and her wealthy new husband (Robin's stepfather) behind. For the first week, Robin takes care of the children herself, taking them to the park, to their gymnastics class, etc where she meets Jane, who is there with her own grandson. Jane sees something in Robin and invites her into her home, sensing that she needs a motherly touch of her own. The step-dad is too busy working to want to take care of his children himself so he sends them off to live with his parents, 4 hours away.

Without the kids around, Robin finds herself without a purpose - what's the point of being a good role model if the 2 people she's being good for are no longer in the picture. Too quickly she delves back into her former world of drinking too much, and flirting with the wrong types of guys.

Jane's family welcomes Robin into their home and into their hearts, even son Ryan, the divorced 23 year old man who's raising his own 3 year old on his own. Sure Ryan's gorgeous but he's also everything that Robin is not looking for - a good boy who comes with his own commitments and baggage. And after the disaster of his marriage, the last thing he'd ever be looking for is a bad girl!

I loved this story. Rebecca Phillips did an amazing job in this whole series, of making me fall in love with the heroine while she gets through her personal demons and baggage and also making me fall in love with the guy that is in her orbit.

and the secondary characters are great too. I love how Ryan's mom tried to push the two of them together and wasn't trying to be sneaky about it - they knew full well what she was up to. Ryan's sister Nicole was a fun character as well. I loved the snarky brother-sister relationship between her and Ryan and laughed just about every time they gave each other a hard time, but she also proved that no one will get away with hurting her brother!

I received an Ebook copy of Until Now from the group Shut Up and Read on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

This book kept my interest from the very beginning. Even though I didn't grow up with the same problems with in my family, things happen that mold us into the people we become and try not to become. I enjoy that the characters are easy to relate to and you can understand and empathize with what they are going through.

Robin did not grow up a stable home with a parent/s to monitor her activities. For this reason she did as she pleased which she did not make smart decisions. Once her mother and step father got together and her mother was expecting twins, Robin chose to clean up her act to become a good role model for them.
They definitely wouldn't have a good role model in their mother.

Due to Robin's mother's lack of maternal instincts, she leaves her husband and children behind. Her step father sends her siblings to live with his parents and she is not able to see them or talk to them because of who they reside with. She is left without a place to live. Missing her siblings does not help her make appropriate decisions and she spirals back to old habits.

She meets an amazing woman who invites her to come to Sunday dinners with her family. She has some ulterior motives to find someone for her son Ryan. Robin and Ryan don't hit it off at first but they are able to make a connection after some time passes.

I recommend you read this book because you will want to find out if Robin is reunited with her young twin siblings. Will her spiraling back into old habits hurt her building connection to Ryan? Will she be reunited with her mother who abandoned them all? This is a great read! Go check it out.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review on Shut up and Read (Read it and Weep). It started out pretty good. I think the author did a good job of giving me a good feel for the main character, who she was and where her personality traits came from. There were a few scenes that seemed a bit redundant to me, or didn't seem to move the plot along, and I got a little fed up with the main character falling back into her old habits so easily. However, I did really enjoy the relationship with the love interest and the dialogue between them, and I think she did a good job with the other main characters. Although it has a few proofing errors (that do not detract from the book at all) and it's a bit predictable, I would recommend this book. Once it got going, it kept my interest, and I really enjoyed it.

I had the absolute thrill/pleasure of reading an advanced copy of this long awaited 3rd book in the Just You series. Although I adored Just You and Someone Else, I really, really love this edgy new spin into NA by Rebecca Phillips. I wasn't sure how I would feel about not having Taylor as the protagonist. She definitely had us all falling in love with her and Michael and begging for a third book in this series, so I was skeptical, I'll admit it. But I'll also admit it didn't even take one full page and I was completely hooked on Robin's storyline and, although grateful for occasional glimpses into Taylor and Micheal's lives, I was completely focused on Robin and her journey to discover who she was. Rebecca Phillips never disappoints!! Strong Five Stars yet again!

I enjoy a book that can make me smile & especially laugh! It has the characters you can relate to. Their snarky replies would be yours. I could so see myself saying "I hope she gives you ..." This is one of those stories that's truly believable. You know what I'm talking about - it's not meeting the billionaire play boy, but a divorced, single dad. It gets real. I liked that it's sexy without the countless sex scenes. Don't get me wrong they're there just not overly done. 4+ stars & finally the disclaimer... I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. Would I buy the book, yes. Would I recommend the book, yes.

I have mixed emotions in regards to this story. The characters were complex making for an emotional drama but at the same time I felt situations or past situations were not detailed enough to get a good feel for how they reacted to what was happening now. The friendship between her and Taylor was suppose to be solid but for me was not believable, I just felt it was suggested and not so much experienced. Overall it was a good story but I was left feeling like I missed important details to get an awesome perspective on everything that was going on. Making it feel like an overview rather than an intense detailed read. I know it doesn't sound like I enjoyed this but I did overall. The story was a good baseline and using your imagination you can fill in the details. I liked the characters and the story's potential. I just wanted something more in depth and in detail so I could be lazy and not assume anything. Thanks for the opportunity.

I received this book in exchange for a review.

Robin is very close to her twin brother and sister. When her mother disappears, Robin takes care of the twins until her stepfather gets home. He sends the twins to his parents. Robin moves in with her best friend's parents. Robin feels very alone without the twins. Their grandparents won't let her talk to them. Robin goes back to her old lifestyle of partying. She meets a terrific single father. He has a three year old son. Mason reminds her so much of the twins. Can Robin get her life back together or will she lose Ryan and Mason?

This book was well-written. I enjoyed reading it. I would like to read the other two books in the series. It is stand-alone but I think it would give background information to read the other books first.

I had not read the prior books in this series. This being a series, it was not hard to follow as a stand alone.

The main female character is Robin. She hasn't had the best of role models in parents. I felt myself empathizing with her, and the situation she was left to clean up. I was so rooting for her to make a go of the situation she was given.

The book was a different kind of romance, one that doesn't follow the norm in story lines these day. This is a good thing to experience, and not feel like the same story line told over again.

Although I could foretell were the story was going, I still always like a good tied up ending. This story gives you that, with no cliff hanger.

I really enjoyed this finale to this series. This is technically a companion to the first two books as it follows a different main character, but I thought that was a good thing, as I feel that the story of the original main characters would not necessarily have stood up to a third book. I obviously really enjoyed getting to see little snippets of our previous main characters lives.

I also thought it was a great decision on behalf of the author to make this more a new adult read as opposed to a young adult book as the characters have obviously aged and I really thought this worked well for the progression of the characters.

As always I completely love all the issues and themes that the author dealt with in this story.

Read Rebecca Phillips books! I love her!
