That pretty much sums up how I felt about this one! Can't say I hated it but I don't think I really liked it all that much either.
Honestly, neither Coco or Nick were very likable characters to me!
Half of the time Coco acted like she was still a teenager.....and Nick's reasons for breaking up with Coco were pretty lame IMO.
The whole ....queue the eye roll!
Coco's reaction to said ....
Luckily the drama wasn't at Yanked levels but honestly, it was still pretty stupid. Just not as stupid and it was resolved pretty quickly!
Overall, I'd have to say this one was pretty disappointing.

I really loved “Frenched”, the first book in the series, so of course I expected to love this one as well.
Yeah, I’m really disappointed with this one!
I can’t say I liked Coco. I didn’t felt connected with her in some way at all. Why? Because half of the time she thinks, speaks or acts like she’s 15. She’s 28, so
After she has sex with Nick and she realizes she forgot to take the pill, so she wants immediately to take a pregnancy test
Nick wasn’t very likeable either! And his reason for breaking up with Coco is stupid and ridiculous.
There’s also some stupid drama
and unfortunately some cheesiness...Gahh!!
Anyway…I enjoyed the banter and the teasing between Coco and Nick and I liked the writing.
Overall, just a nice read!

It was Okay,
but I can't say I loved it. I adored Melanie Harlow's Frenched, and I also enjoyed her Speak Low series. One of the things I did enjoy about Forked was that she tied the three books together. Nick Lupo is the Great-grandson of Joey Lupo, the hot bootlegging mobster from Speak Easy. Mia and Lucas also of course make an appearance.
If you read Frenched, you probably remember that Coco is Mia's best friend and co-owner of their event planning business. Where Mia is organized and realistic, Coco is silly and impulsive. When Coco takes on a new bridezilla client, she has to contact her college ex who is now a famous chef, Nick Lupo.
I actually thought Coco was a pretty fun character until around 60% and then her character was written a little over the top, and I just couldn't relate to her after that point. It's hard for me to believe that a sexually active 28 year old woman could possibly be this ridiculous. That wasn't the worst part though. For me, her character was really annoying when she started behaving like a demanding spoiled diva. After that, things felt too rushed. I just never really believed their love story the way I wanted to. I did enjoy the ending, although the book ended around 85%, and the last bit was a chapter from Speak Easy.
Thanks to the ladies from the br. I'm still cracking up imagining Ami's reaction to the last third of the book. I'm a great friend that way. It was probably some thing like this:

THIS BOOK. I love a second chance romance, and this is one of my new favorites.
Coco & Nick dated off and on for years in college. They were crazy about each other from day one, but being young and wild and passionate, things didn’t always go smoothly. After Nick breaks Coco’s heart one final time in a hotel room in Vegas, she thinks it’s over for good. But now, 7 years later, she needs his help. In order to impress a huge client and boost her business, she has to get a famous chef. Which famous chef? Nick Lupo. Nick agrees to help her, but only if she spends one weekend with him. They agree to no sex and no talking about the past. But… turns out that crazy passion was never really gone.
Now, I freaking loved this book. I truly could FEEL their passion and longing and hurt for each other while I was reading. Were they a little hot headed and toxic? oh yeah. But for once it didn’t bother me because you could just tell they were soulmates. Two people who loved each other so hard and truly never stood a chance of ending up with anyone else. When the tension breaks between these two… it is next level. So much anger and lust and frustration and longing, and 7 years to make up for. I was living for it. I debated giving this a 4.5 bc maybe they didn’t have the healthiest relationship, but I couldn’t even bring myself to see that as a fault bc i just loved it so dang much.

Me before reading the book
After reading Frenched (which I loooved), I couldn't wait for Forked to be released, but after reading it I have to say it was a disappointment. It was like these books were written by 2 different people.
What I hated about it:
1.The way Coco behaved made you think the book was written by a 16 year old girl.
2.Almost the whole book happened during 24 hours.
3.Not even a day after they have sex and Coco realizes she forgot to take a pill she starts wondering if it would be right to drink alcohol or to drink coffee, she even wants to take a pregnancy test already. Seriously?

Coco and Nick were married 7 years ago. When Coco woke up the next morning, Nick was gone and left a note saying it was a mistake. Fast forward 7 years and Coco needs Nicks help for a party she has agreed to plan. I liked the sexual chemistry between Coco and Nick and there was a lot of steam between them. I also really enjoyed the tie-in with the Lupo family history. My only real complaint about this book was Nick. I just couldn't get over his reasoning for things he did in the past and I felt like it was never properly explained. Maybe I am just not a forgiving person but I really wanted Coco to make him suffer. I do really enjoy this author's writing and look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

4 "panky" lovin' stars
Frenched was one of my favourite reads of the year, and this book follows on in the same vein – funny, sexy and romantic, lots of banter and a highly entertaining read.
Coco is the best friend of Mia (heroine of Frenched), and the two of them are partners in an event planning company. When Coco’s latest client demands sexy celebrity chef, Nick Lupo to cater her engagement party, Coco is left with no choice but to contact him – her ex, the first man she ever loved, and the one that shattered her heart when he left her 7 years ago.
When she tracks him down at his highly popular restaurant, he is still sexy, still makes her heart pound, and is just as cocky as ever.
From the very start the banter is fantastic, and Nick makes no secret of his attraction to Coco. He tells her he’ll take the job if she agrees to spend the weekend with him. In a battle between her head and her heart (and lower body parts), Coco decides she has no choice, and she agrees – but with the proviso that there is no talking about the past, no second chances and no sex. Well, that’s all blown out of the water in a matter of hours when Nick has her splayed across his kitchen counter in what is the beginning of an epically sexy reunion.
Neither of them can deny that their attraction to each other is as strong as it ever was, but Nick takes it a step further, pouring out his feelings and making it clear that he wants Coco back and will do anything he can to have her.
I love this relationship! They tease, they banter, they joke around, and their connection is still very apparent. They are obviously hot for each other, and they quickly start to make up for all of the time they lost together by having hot and heavy sex wherever and whenever they can. And OMG, it’s HOTTTT! Melanie Harlow writes great sex scenes, but it doesn’t overshadow the story or become pointless. It complements the romance nicely, and adds some highly fantastic crudeness to the story with Nick and Coco both being dirty talkers, and each encounter plays a big part in their reconnection as Nick continues to plead his case.
But their past is murky with lies and betrayals, and as sizzling as they are together, there is a lot of baggage they need to wade through. And this is where the emotion comes into the story as they finally open up to each other about how they feel and everything that happened between them, and see whether it’s possible for them to have a future together.
OMG, I absolutely fell in love with Nick! He has a huge battle on his hands, but he is so open about how he feels, and his determination to win Coco back is fantastically swoony.
Coco is terrified of being hurt again after Nick left her broken the last time he left, and I could understand her hesitation and her doubt about whether she could trust him again. I did think she took things too far at one point in trying to fight her feelings and push him away, but thankfully Nick’s awesome made up for it, and it was quickly resolved so that they could get their happy ending.
The storyline ties in with Melanie’s Speak Easyseries, with Nick being a descendent of the characters in that story. And I am definitely adding those books to my tbr, because it sounds like a fantastic story! This book also follows on nicely from Frenched and Yanked, with some further progression for Mia and Lucas. We don’t see a lot of them, but what we do see is absolutely gorgeous.
You know how you read some books and have a great time while doing it? Well, this is one of those books. It was fun, it’s fast paced (the whole story takes place within 2 weeks!), funny, sexy and beautifully romantic – and there’s even an epilogue. I flew through it really quickly and it left me with a huge grin on my face.

These books are so fun! And funny! And the men love so earnestly! Okay…let me gather my wits. Coco and Nick were together in college before exploding into nothing in a really hurtful way. They broke up and got back together many times, but they eventually married in Vegas before he disappeared on their wedding night. I KNOW!
Coco is now an event planner and her client has a demand. Celebrity chef Nick Lupo MUST cater at the party, no one else will do. Which is the start of their reunion, much to Coco’s reluctance and Nick’s delight. He’s still in love with her! He wants her back! He wants everything! Coco, not so much.
These two were so entertaining, feisty, funny, sexy, sweet. It’s not fairytale, but a really lovely second chance romance all the same. Coco’s a little spoiled, Nick is a little careless, but they’re perfect together.

4 frothy and delicious stars!! Loved this swoony, very romantic story!!
I absolutely love Melanie Harlow’s Frenched Series! The heroines are strong, witty, sexy and very relatable. Coco is thrown together with her ex, Nick, a well-known chef who broke her heart years before. She has never really gotten over him and it seems that even though he broke up with her, he isn’t over her, either. Melanie French writes sexy heroes who have a heart of gold, a strong romantic streak and who aren’t afraid of strong women. The sex scenes in this book are UBER-hot and sweetly romantic at the same time.
Sometimes you need a sexy, light and super-romantic book in between some of the darker, heavier reads, and Forked fits the bill perfectly. Put Nick and Coco on your reading menu, you won’t be disappointed!

I really enjoy this series! It's different and wonderful. It's so nice to read about second chances at love, it's so nice.
I really like Coco and Nick. They drove each other crazy and with their simple kisses and glares, they are so adorable.
I think a lot of people can relate to their story the most!
Break up when they were younger and giving it another chance. An on and off couple! History and chemistry are all there.
I wish they included the guy point of views in these books, but I think the last novella does. So I can't wait to read that one! ❤️❤️❤️

Coco is Mia's bff and business partner. While Mia is off to prep for her fantastic wedding in France, Coco holds down the fort. Since she's struggling to come up with a deposit on her dream home, Coco accepts a short notice, high budget planning event for an engagement party. One of the bride-to-be's requests is for local celebrity chef, Nick Lupo, to cater his famous hamburgers. Nick also happens to be the man that broke Coco's heart seven years ago. Keeping in mind how big the commission will be from this party, she decides to bite the bullet and face Nick again. She's over him right?
Well Nick most certainly isn't over her. And he makes a request of his own before granting Coco's favor. She must spend the weekend with him. The trip down memory lane is bittersweet. The good times are revisited but so are old hurts and new truths come out. Can they let go of the past and start fresh?
I mostly liked this story. The fact that Nick and Coco could just renew their love in a weekend makes me roll my eyes but it also makes me want to smack them both upside the head for all of the wasted years.
I liked Nick's family. I haven't yet read Harlow's Speak Easy series but the history of those characters crossover into this book. It added a touch of nostalgia that made me a bit moon-eyed. I kind of want to read that series now.
Nick is the one that messed up in the past but by about the sixty percent mark I was yelling at Coco to stop fighting it and forgive him and move on. I thought it was a bit OTT for her to make him "work for it." But...alls well that ends well. I hope Erin gets a story.

Nick Lupo can come and lick my plate whenever he likes. Hot, Italian chef can also bake cake, errrrrrr what's not to like? He can lick my plate or wherever he likes.
I have an affinity with Frenched because, Mia is a list maker like me, I love France and my second born is called Lucas. I loved that we got to see Mia and Lucas get married.
Melanie writes with humour and reality. I think some books go so OTT that they lose my interest because the story isn’t believable. I liked Coco and could total believe the whole never got over her first love story. The sex was hot. I love when clothes are so well described that I want to go find the exact same outfit, if it was summer I would totally be looking for a new sundress.
Anyway back to Nick Lupo fantasy land, I need him to create me the best veggie burger ever and serve it wearing nothing but his cheeky smile.

The thing that sets Melanie Harlow apart from her contemporaries, is the HUMOUR she injects into her work. Her writing is smart, brilliantly executed, sexy, well-paced, but it makes me laugh out loud. (Let's hear it for the anise cookies!). FORKED is clever, and hot, but isn't pretentious. She doesn't go for shock value, or cheap tragedies to shred the reader, and yet, I can't put her books down once I start reading. Compelling, delicious, witty, and fun. Melanie makes it look easy. I will one click anything she puts out. ;)

I really liked this story. My only peeve was Coco was taking too long to forgive Nick, she was driving me crazy. It had lots of LOL moments and was sweet and steamy.

Well, FORKED was a bit of a forking disappointment, not going to lie. It actually makes me reconsider my dislike of YANKED (which, in retrospect, even with all the Lucas drama, I liked a bit more than this one) and I'm glad I ended up bumping the novella's rating up an extra star in the end.
It's not that FORKED was bad but it just wasn't as good as it could've been. Coco was definitely my favourite of Mia's besties who, along with Erin, we are first introduced to in FRENCHED and I was really excited to see how her own story would go. It started off really well; single and mostly celibate after a string of lackluster relationships, she's forced to confront the past she'd shared with Nick years before, and a love that had never been matched and still haunted her, when he's thrown into her path as a result of a client requesting him to cook at her wedding. Mustering up her courage she makes her way to his restaurant, Nick now being a famous celebrity chef, and in their first meeting in seven years.. sparks. fly.
In return for the favour of working the event with very little notice, Nick convinces her to spend the weekend with him, unfazed by her laying down rules involving no talk of their tumultuous past and no sex (and naturally that last one gets broken pretty quick). The rest of their time is spent at Nick's grandmother's for her birthday, the farm they spent a lot of time at when they were first together, and memories and secrets (as well as a major potential complication) come tumbling down around them, shedding light on their past in previously unknown ways, and forcing Coco to think hard about what and who she wants. And whether the man she wants can be forgiven.
I really liked Nick. I thought he was cute, funny, and his moments with Coco were at turns smoking hot and sweetly tender. I completely saw his side of things, being young and feeling unworthy, pressured by people who think they know best, thinking he was being selfless and doing the right thing even though it meant heartbreak and lies. Made worse when he's never given the chance to make it right or explain. And while Coco had every right to be furious and distraught, both over the events at the time and the revelations years later, I still felt she was a little all over the place. And while I appreciated that the angst wasn't dragged out on and on, though it did take up most of the book, I still felt her decision, and then how quickly she'd change her mind, rather frustrating. I get she was reacting to a pattern that seemed unforgivable but it was still jarring. One too many back and forths, I think, which is a shame as it kind of ruined the awesomeness of her character.
FORKED was not what I wanted it to be after having loved FRENCHED as much as I did but I still enjoyed enough of it to want more of this series, these women, and Harlow's writing. Her wit is seriously charming and I constantly find myself laughing out loud and, sometimes simultaneously, fanning myself. So with two out of three ladies settled, on the path to their HEA's, it's Erin's turn -- time to get FLOORED!

I love basking in Melanie Harlow's writing, it's easy to slip into, it pleases and it teases. When this book started, I had fears that the party monstrosity for the Mafia princess would overtake the plot, I am glad that this was just an enabler; an enabler for second chances. Nick Lupo, renown chef and ex-husband was something else. What a story and what a connection these two had. Their connection was palpable immediately but the execution was beyond my expectations.
I loved the past these two had, it was painful but had great shared family, family history and special places. The plot was unpredictable and went a little fast towards the end but it made me lose myself in the book. Just Erin's book to go now and I'll be finished with this series, and I don't want to be. I've put off forked for this very reason, wanting to savour these books, especially as I've read Melanie Harlow's other series.

Melanie Harlow is definitely becoming one of my favourite authors. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down. This book gave me all the feels... I laughed a lot, cried a little and definitely swooned over the charming and sexy Nick.
Coco would do anything to earn enough money to purchase her dream home. Even it means asking her ex husband, the oh so delectably, tattooed Nick for help. Coco and Nick have a very complicated past, one that she is not convinced she’s ready to revisit however Nick is more than happy to rekindle their relationship. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and Coco cannot help but give in to her carnal needs. I loved all of the twist and turns in their love story.
Melanie Harlow really knows how to write good erotic romance. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a sexy, witty romance novel.

More in the direction of 2.5-2.75 stars
I just don't know what happened. Frenched was so good. The follow up very very - and I mean VERY - bad. But this one... I just didn't care. All their reasons And motivations were just weird and wrong. Both of then aren't very likeable. I enjoyed the beginning, but it went downhill after that. The back and forth gave me a head ache.
She goes from 'I never want to see him again' to 'I want to marry him' in less than a page.
What happened to the wonderful chemistry in Frenched? I hope you can recapture the magic miss Harlow, because I'm afraid this isn't going to cut it.

For me, Coco got over her issues with Nick WAY too fast and they went into happy territory faster than I thought possible. I just didn't care for her at all and Nick was just meh. I didn't really care for either of them.
And the so called "scare" in the book....stupid.
Also be aware....the book ends at 84%. I REALLY hate when that happens.

Coco and Nick= hot, and steamy! I loved thier story! It was full of Nick making huge stupid mistakes and Coco having to figure out if she can trust and forgive him. Nicks family is pretty awesome too. We also get to see Lucas and Mia get married yay! Another great read for this series.

Loved Ms. Harlow's (prequel-esque) book Frenched, but just couldn't connect with these two main characters or the drama surrounding why they weren't/couldn't/shouldn't be together.

It’s quite a fun scene with reveals and mistakes from their past. But Nick knows how to wear her down and soon she’s agreeing to spend the weekend with him—but with her rules.
Can Coco let a weekend with Nick be nothing more than a temporary time travel to their past or will feelings get in the way?
In Nick’s kitchen, author Melanie Harlow quickly turns up the heat between Nick and Coco, yet she avoids the pitfalls of insta-lust. The past relationship that Nick and Cocoshared is always clearly felt. They are two old lovers who were also great friends at the core. It quickly becomes apparent that their ultimate problem is not love or attraction but trust and security.
The first part of the story is really cute, fun, and super sexy. I liked both characters and was rooting for them to reunite. The author did a great job of presenting the issues from their past alongside the attraction Coco and Nick obviously share. But somewhere during their weekend trip, Coco started to rub me the wrong way a little. I totally understood that she felt hurt and betrayed by how Nick previously handled their relationship, but he seemed like such a prince in the present so it was hard to not want her to give him another chance.
“‘What boy sits with someone’s grandmother for two hours if he doesn’t love her?’”
You tell her Granny!
And then Coco freaked out about something that I felt she prematurely over-reacted to, and it requires some suspicion of disbelief at how immediately these college educated adults thought they could get an answer. (Come on, even modern testing isn’t THAT quick. It wouldn’t have been accurate.) So I was glad it turned out the way it did as that part felt added simply for drama. I definitely enjoyed her friend Erin as the voice of reason at that point as Coco was just going overboard with the “sign” thing.
There were also a few things that seemed to have potential for more fun and adventure (Angelina's party) and re-connection (her tattoo???), but were not explored. Still, overall it’s an enjoyable read—sexy turned romantic—about lost chances, second chances. Forked is book 2 in the Frenched series but is easily read as a stand-alone.
Will Coco finally let Nick explain? Can she handle the answers? Are they worse than she thinks? What will Nick have to do to finally prove himself and win his ex-wife back?

To say I am shocked that this was a five star read is an understatement. However, I kind of knew off the first couple pages that this was going to be nothing short of an exceptional journey and I'm so thrilled to have been proven right in such a spectacular fashion.
Coco–the stubborn, impulsive girl who rushes into things and does whatever her heart tells her to. Sure, she has a temper and sure, she's a little hot-headed and sure, she picks fights with Nick and has a tough time getting over her heartbreak, but if I were in her shoes, best believe there would not be anyone left standing because I would burn it all to the ground. She was all fire and sass, but had the biggest heart and I adored her.
Now, the star of the frickin' show: Nick. Lupo. I just knew I was going to love this man, because I loved his son Gianni in Taste, but oh my god Nick was hotter, cockier, and just better. (Ellie, I completely understand why you had a crush on him, girlie. I do too.) This man was so smooth, so persistent, so in love with Coco that he would do anything for her and I seriously could not have fallen more in love with him if I tried.

These babies may have been a little bit toxic, but oh my god I love them so much. The pining, the lust, the want, the love is so evident off the pages and I didn't want this book to end. Their story was so beautiful. The number of highlights I had in this book were ridiculous. Nick was all about the little things–wrapping his arms around her waist, slipping into bed with her even though she wad mad, cooking for her, remembering every little thing about her–but also the grand gestures–that last scene had me squealing. This smooth-talking man with gangster in his blood has my heart. One of my top book boyfriends of all time. I'm obsessed with him.
God, the spice. Like, oh my god,a girl was for real soaked. Nick has to be one of the hottest men ever and the frosting? The orchard? The kitchen countertop? If I don't live out the kitchen countertop scene, I am going to have serious issues. I will be livid. I will be displeased. I will be unhappy. I will be going to my lawyer. I will be–
Hands down, one of my favorite books ever and without a doubt, my favorite Melanie Harlow read. You outdid yourself with this one, my dear. They're going to live in my head and my heart for a long long time.
I only wish Nick could live between my legs.

Received Advance Copy as a give-away directly from the author. But, this is not influencing this review.
That said, spoilers, spoilers, spoilers. I am guessing this is obvious as it is a review before the book is officially out....
Wow.
After Frenched and Yanked, both of which I loved enough to put Melanie Harlow's books on the must-buy list, I was hopeful that Forked would be as good. It didn't disappoint. Was it hot? Yes, and I may never look at refrigerators or cake batter, or chefs for that matter, in the same way. Ever. Was it romantic? Absolutely...airports are even romantic in this, and that is impressive. Really impressive. Did it break your heart in places? Yes. The conversations between Nick and Coco, especially in the lake, were amazing. They were real. They made you feel. For the characters, with the characters, and they made you cheer for the characters.
And, that, above all is the most important part. It felt real. The first meeting after 7 years? Felt like a conversation 2 people would have, 2 people who cared about one another in the past and who were unsure as to where they are now, or who they are to one another, in the present. I have had a similar meeting in my life, and I felt it...the nervousness, the wondering what someone would be like, the fascination to know all about what they have been, but the fear at the same time that they will have changed too much, or not at all, and you will no longer be able to relate was all there.
I liked that Nick knew what he wanted of their relationship...way before Coco admitted it to herself. I liked how sure of himself he was and I liked that he knew her well enough to know that the rules she gave him were essentially telling him what she wanted from their time, but was too afraid to admit to herself. This also helped with the reader feeling ok with liking Nick. It is written in 1st person, so Coco's perspective through it, so knowing pretty quickly how Nick feels allows you to take the trip with Coco. Not an easy trick, but one that can be pulled off if the book is well-written, and it is pulled off in Forked.
The book had moments where I laughed out loud (#5 on Mia's text list) comes to mind, and a few other places where the comments of the characters were so funny, you just had to chuckle. Which helps. It is emotional, sometimes it is nice to have a little comic relief.
I also loved that while Mia and Lucas were in this book, I was ok that they were not a focus. In fact, other than a couple of comments, you didn't actually hear much from Lucas. It can be hard to let go of those characters you love and who are not a feature of the next book, but that wasn't hard here. I think because you are so engrossed in Nick and Coco, and so ok with where Mia and Lucas were left, that seeing them only from a distance while focusing on Nick and Coco was really ok.
I could probably say more, but I am dangerously close to writing my own book at this point...

Ugh! I am so disappointed. Starting from chapter 3, I kept on wanting to just leave the book. The two characters are so utterly foolish.
Nick is a real nincompoop. Not only does he lie about that he cheated when actually he did not, he also has an infuriating inferiority complex regarding money.
The heroine is no less dumb. Anybody would think that the whole scenario is a recipe for disaster but Coco just had to go with her immensely flawed impulses and get back with him. Somebody shake some sense into this girl!
I am rarely ever as harsh as I have been in this review but this book really got on my nerves. The same detailed style of writing that I liked in Frenched, was abominably stretched out in this book. Read at your own risk.
Nobody is sorrier than me that this book turned out to be like this.
Nick is a real nincompoop. Not only does he lie about that he cheated when actually he did not, he also has an infuriating inferiority complex regarding money.
The heroine is no less dumb. Anybody would think that the whole scenario is a recipe for disaster but Coco just had to go with her immensely flawed impulses and get back with him. Somebody shake some sense into this girl!
I am rarely ever as harsh as I have been in this review but this book really got on my nerves. The same detailed style of writing that I liked in Frenched, was abominably stretched out in this book. Read at your own risk.
Nobody is sorrier than me that this book turned out to be like this.
