After the near-death situation Kira put herself in plus the lost of a person she loved dearly, she left her hometown for good, gave up being wifey, and got herself a new hustle. She ventured into selling high-end cars such as Ashton Martins and Rolls Royces at a luxury car dealership in South Beach, Florida. Her clients consisted of wealthy cats that consisted of Hedge Fund Investors and dope boys. The dope boys brought in the most money. In fact, Kendrick Miles was her best customer. He kept her pockets laced and she felt indebted to him. So when it came time for her to show him her appreciation, she didn't hesitate to pay up. But when she finds out that her debt came at the expense of someone else's life, Kira is forced to call in reinforcements.
Kiki Swinson was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. She discovered her flair for writing after completing her first novel, Mad Shambles, while serving a five-year sentence at a federal prison. After being released in December 1996, Kiki later went on to self-publish Mad Shambles. Her passion for writing didn't stop there. Writing feverishly into the wee hours of the night, she completed her second novel, Wifey, which was published by Melodrama Publishing. After the success of Wifey, Kiki penned the sequels I'm Still Wifey and Life After Wifey, as well as The Candy Shop and A Sticky Situation.
Wifey’s Next Hustle by Kiki Swinson is the first book in her Wifey’s Next Hustle series. This series is a spin-off of her urban lit Wifey series.
Kira Wade left Virginia and moved to Miami in order to make a change in her life and lifestyle. Working at a car dealership selling high end luxury cars isn’t anything like her past experiences, but she’s not in the clear yet. Will karma allow Kira to escape her old lifestyle?
Kiki Swinson is a giant in the urban lit world, but Wifey’s Next Hustle is not among my favorites. Though I have read and greatly enjoyed previous works by the author, I haven’t read the Wifey series, so perhaps that affected my experience with the debut of this new spinoff series. The novel is readable as a standalone, but in my opinion, reading the Wifey series beforehand would have added needed background. Kira seemed simple and simple-minded. I just couldn’t bring myself to care what happened to her. The story had a decent plot and flowed fairly well. The ending is a cliffhanger, so I’m off to read the next installment. Overall, I found the novel to be just okay. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers of urban lit fiction.
My thanks to Kensington Books, Dafina, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Omg this book was definitely a page turner. Kira made a big mistake getting involved with Kendrick she should have never divulged information to a damn gangster now she in big trouble ip to her arm pits. She putting don’t many people lives in jeopardy including herself. Her boyfriend Dylan knows the code of the street and so does her father but her father won’t listen to anything he just on a manhunt to find out who killed his friends. Dylan has to worry about his momma getting hurt by her husband and his woman Kira at the same time. What a tingle weave we end up getting into by involving yourself with the wrong people. Now to see what happens in the next book. Way to go Kiki you got my reading mojo back thank you do much...
I have missed several books in this series, but I didn't need to read the other books to maintain an understanding with this story (even though I plan to go back and get caught up). I was able to enjoy this book and sometimes I wanted to strangle Kira several times like, girl, ain't you learned your lesson yet. But I did enjoy this story very much, and this is one of the few urban/street lit books I actually enjoy. This does seem to appear as if it's a reissue/reprint.
I recieved a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
So what I didn’t understand was if this book is supposed to be continue from the book wifey who is Dylan cause in the last book the guy she was seeing was Donovan and how is it that she in Miami she should be in the Virgin Islands also how she have a dad in this book cause last I remember she had a stepdad so when did the father part come in I don’t like the beginning of this book
Never read a book that gave me such a headache from beginning to end. Couldn't stand Kira's daddy and definitely can't endure another book reading about him, so I wish him and them the best. This was one annoying a** read. Tylenol, take me away. 🙄🤦🏾♀️
Wow! I believe this is the shortest story I've ever read by Kiki Swinson. Although it was not as lengthy as all the others, Kiki didn't short us. This story read like all her other stories. As usual, Kira's hustling ways has gotten her mixed up in some type of deadly, complicated mess. I'm looking forward to the next book, to see if she will be as lucky as she has been in the past, and be able to wiggle her way out of this mess with her life still in tack. I wonder how many loved ones will she have to sacrifice to stay alive this time?
This is a decent read but it feels like a lot is missing...like why did the judge and his wife get murdered? What was going on to the point where anyone who got involved or got too close would die?
