Catching Quinn: An Enemies-to-Lovers Sports Romance

Rate this book
What’s a girl have to do to lose her virginity around here?

When I decided to ditch my V-card, I figured Greek Row was a sure thing.

I didn’t count on Cooper-the-cockblocking-jockhole-DeLaurentis or his misguided sense of bro code putting an embarrassing end to my hookup. After all, Waverly’s star wide receiver is the most notorious player on campus.

He’s arrogant. Infuriating. Sexy as hell.

Just ask him.

Worse? He’s made it his personal mission to scare off every guy who shows an interest in me. But I’m not about to be outwitted by a hypocritical baller with more ego than sense. I may be a hot mess, but I’m no pushover.

Two can play this game, and I’m playing to win. Welcome to the cockblockalypse...

✅️ Football player- on and off the field 😉🏈
✅️ Virg¡n h
✅️ College romance
✅️ Dual POV

Quinn Mowrey is your V-card holding, trying to get rid of it ASAP, Star Wars loving, college student. She runs into Cooper-the-cockblocking-jockhole-DeLaurentis at her brother Noah's frat party.
She doesn't have the best luck 🍀 with trying to successfully sleep with anyone and is known for things going wrong when she is around. 🙈

I loved the way we saw their relationship grow stronger. It gave you the feels! ❤️

This book was spicy 🌶🌶🌶
So, if you don't enjoy a good 'O' 😮 (or many) then you should move along to the next book. If you do- open it up!

This is a new to me author and I will definitely be reading more! 🥰

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this eARC!

The inner monolog of the mc's was terrible. I liked the story but the author was trying toooooooooo hard to be cool. There is no reason 20+ year Olds who curse should be thinking in text. Wtf, af, ftw and # showed up way too much in the inner monologs. Took away from the story, and I almost dnf'd this because of that.

I’m so happy I gave a chance to a new-to-me author! I loved this book. The characters, the story, the writing style… I’m sold.

It didn’t bother me at all–in fact, it may be one of the reasons I enjoyed this book that much–but it was kind of two stories in one book. The first part is funny and fast paced, while the second one is a bit angsty. But it follows the evolution in Quinn and Coop’s relationship, so it works well. It keeps the reader interested for sure.

The first part is about Quinn trying to lose her virginity. Her schemes–and the way they failed–were ridiculous and fun. Enters Cooper, star athlete and friend to her brother, who decides he must protect her from her bad decisions. The banter was great, with lots of attraction hidden behind harsh words and sass.

Of course, their desire for each other leads them to decide that Cooper is the best equipped to rid Quinn of her v-card. And they become an item. From a one time thing to maybe more, their relationship slowly evolves, and that’s when everything falls apart. At this point, the story is on its final stretch, the moment I love the most. Sometimes it’s overwhelming, or there’s barely any threat to the relationship. Here, it was perfectly done–even though the book’s mood take a 180.

I won’t say much about the second part of the story, because I don’t want to spoil anything, but yes, it’s a bit angsty. Some heavy topics are broached, and the characters’ struggles felt real. But don’t worry, there’s a beautiful happily ever after.

I love a good college sports romance, and this one had everything. Some action on the field. Team’s dynamics. Party time. Even some school work–it doesn’t happen that often. By diving into this book, you become friends with Quinn and Coop, and part of the Waverly college experience.

I guarantee I’ll follow this author.

Quinn is known to her family and friends as a bit of a disaster, so when she sets out to lose her virginity, it feels inevitable something will go wrong. What she didn’t expect was for it to go wrong in the form of Cooper, star football player and one of the biggest players in their college. Cooper decides it's his job to interfere with Quinn’s plan as much as he can - both for his own amusement and for her own protection. But the more they get to know one another the more they both start to wonder if Cooper might be the answer to Quinn’s problem.

I really enjoyed reading this. The whole concept is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine and this was a really good example of it. The writing is decent, the book is fun, the chemistry between Quinn and Cooper is really good. They had some really sexy moments as well as some sweet ones, and I really believed how their romance developed over the course of hte book.

There is some heavy stuff going on in the form of a subplot involving Cooper’s family, which I thought was handled fairly sensitively. I liked that there was no neat, easy resolution to that plotline - a lot of books like this tend to have it resolve itself too quickly and easily, so whilst the resolution was sad it felt more realistic and complicated.

Overall though this was quite a cute book and I felt very satisfied by finishing it. It was fun with just enough angst and drama to keep it interesting, and I’ll definitely be looking into reading more by this author.

Content Notes: College, sports, sibling’s friend / friend’s sibling, hidden/mistaken identity, kissing lessons.

Catching Quinn is the second book in the Waverly Wildcats series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Quinn was a little geeky and clumsy, but I loved how straightforward she was. And she never gave up on her…main goal, despite the many setbacks thanks to Cooper.

Cooper was very flirty and playful. And he was a well-known playboy. But once he started “helping” Quinn, she was it for him.

These two had such great banter and chemistry. And I loved that they were both a little nerdy.

This was funny, but it was also emotional and angsty. It was a great story, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Audiobook notes:
Narrated by: James Cassidy and Lucy Rivers
Narration Style: Dual

I haven’t listened to many books narrated by James Cassidy, but wow, he was fantastic! Lucy Rivers was amazing as well. They both made the audiobook a great listening experience.

Trigger warning: domestic abuse.

I loved this book! Quinn was a walking disaster, but her sexploits while trying to lose her virginity were hilarious. She was sassy and not afraid to dish out some serious disses, and was a great sport when she got dissed right back. Cooper was such a good guy despite his reputation, and genuinely had Quinn’s best interests at heart the whole book. Their chemistry was so good, and the spice was the perfect level considering there were darker themes woven in the story.

Cooper was incredibly caring and protective of his mom - the portrayals of domestic abuse against her had my heart truly aching for them both. The end didn’t have the resolution I was expecting for that plot line, but it was very realistic, which I think readers need to see.

The audiobook narration by James Cassidy and Lucy Rivers was great. James played growly jokester Cooper to a T. Lucy had stellar emotional range for the sadder parts of the book.

Thank you to PinUp Audio for the audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Honestly, I went into this book with low expectations. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I was worried that the characters would be one dimensional in their good girl, bad boy way but I actually think the characters were really great and built out to have both pros and cons. The premise of the book is quite cheeky and it leans into it throughout it. It doesn’t feel like it takes itself too seriously, but is still respectful when big issues are dealt with and explored.

This book was a no-brainer - because you really do not need a brain to read it. Characters were totally forgettable, plot was harlequin-y, some 12 hours after finishing it I needed to check GR reviews to remind myself what exactly was going on there.

But when it's 30 degrees C and you are dying after clinning after house renovations, it's ok read.

Me gusto?

Quinn has decided that she has waited long enough and is determined to have her first time however just when she thinks it is within her grasp her plan is thwarted by none other than Cooper, a member of her brother’s fraternity.

Cooper is a star both when it comes to women and football. He isn’t about to let Quinn make a choice that she may regret later but nothing could have prepared him for her reaction when he takes the decision out of her hands and that’s when the fun really begins.

Humorous, heartwarming and hot as Cooper appears to be the confident athlete without a care in the world but with everything we learn about him it only makes us and Quinn love him more as she shows him that he is so much more than his past.

Cute fluffy book, and a surprisingly engaging storyline coupled with the silly banter.

It’s a sports romance that follows a pretty standard formula and Jennifer Bonds is a scientific expert on it. She theorized and owns the formula for making a great, easy, romance book.

Great smut too! We love Cooper as a MMC, and Quinn is awesome as well. I feared she was going to be a “pick me” or “not like other girls” girl but she was actually really cool and honest with herself and a relatable character.

Catching Quinn is the second book in the Waverly Wildcats series by Jennifer Bonds. This book did not disappoint. It had the wit, banter, emotion and spice! 🔥 I was lucky enough to get an ALC and this audiobook was fantastic!

We have Quinn, a 19 year old college student whose trying to find her place as an adult while also trying to lose her v-card! She's so desperate to lose her virginity that she's willing to hook up with any guy she meets at a frat party, or a bar, but there's one thing standing in her way.

Cooper is a wide receiver on the  Waverly Wildcats Football team and is hoping for a National championship with his team for his senior year in college. He has big ambitions that don't necessarily match up with what his US Senate father wants for him, but Cooper keeps his ambitions to himself to not disappoint his father.

Cooper and Quinn's path cross when Cooper recognizes her at a frat party as one of his frat brother's younger sisters. He"saves" her from her hookup, much to the dismay of Quinn.

Both Cooper and Quinn are very likeable characters and the chemistry and tension between them is undeniable. This story is light-hearted with some heavy themes, but it's such a feel good story! Even if you aren't a sports fan, you will be rooting for these characters!

The audiobook was performed by Lucy Rivers and James Cassidy.

They both did such an amazing job with bringing this story and the characters to life! Both were so easy to listen to!

Production was by Pinup studio

I really enjoyed this book and following Quinn and Cooper’s story. Quinn is determined to finally lose her virginity, but Cooper stands in her way at every turn. When he ultimately agrees to be the one, it comes with plenty of complications. The playful banter and heartfelt moments between them made the journey so enjoyable. Narrators James Cassidy and Lucy Rivers were perfect as Cooper and Quinn, capturing their chemistry and dynamic beautifully. If you're looking for a sweet, heartwarming story with a few emotional twists, this is a must listen!

Thank you, Jennifer Bonds and Pinup Audio for the ALC.

The power imbalance between these two main characters made me feel icky. On the one hand we have our female main character who is insecure af and then there is the star of the entire universe, our hero sex god himself who decides with whom she can hook up with.

So I am a super fan of the sports romance genre and there is a special place in my heart for college sports romance. This book is a solid add to that genre. The characters were well developed with distinct personalities.

I have to say it drives me crazy when there are misspellings in idioms and this book has at least one and it drove me crazy.

This book isn’t bad it just isnt memorable. It reads like every other contemporary sports romance. It took me reaching the end to realize why I kept feeling deja vu is that I read this before. And even tho I read it before and finished it now I can’t tell you any other characters name or plot except Quinn. But you can tell that if you just preview the text since it’s in the title. I rated it three stars cause it was okay enough for me to read twice.

Here I am, continuing with my Waverly Wildcats series and it does not disappoint. After reading multiple colleague sports romance books, there are some trends and overlaps and I'm not just talking about the tropes/microtropes. We are getting to the point of repeating first and last names so it does start to get confusing in my head.

Here we have the story of Cooper DeLaurentis, senior football player and a PoliSci major. He is the son of a politician and is expected to follow in his old man's footsteps, however, he wants to make it to the NFL. Oh, and Cooper is also part of the Sig Chi Fraternity. Quinn Mowry, a sophomore who writes for the university newspaper with personal pieces (think Carrie Bradshaw from SATC). Quinn is still a virgin, something she is not happy about. She decides to attend a party at the frat where her brother is the president of Sig Chi, with hopes of finally popping her cherry🍒🍒However, Cooper sees that she has chosen some random guy, who happens to be a frat brother, and it goes against bro-code to hook up with a fellow frat bothers IRL sibling. So he cockblocks Quinn. As a matter of fact, over a few weeks, he cockblocks her multiple times. Quinn and Cooper aren't exactly friends but they aren't enemies either. They are just on each other's radar. One night Cooper starts texting Quinn, not knowing it is her (and she doesn't know it is him) and they start an online friendship. One day they decide to meet because Quinn is deadset on losing her virginity and, by then, Cooper has already figured out that his mystery texting friend is actually Quinn. As a "humanitarian service", he decides it would be best that he helps Quinn lose her V-card instead of some random hook-up. They become friends with benefits and develop feelings that go beyond lust and physical attraction. I enjoyed the overall story and the spice was a good step up from Claiming Carter.

If you like The Deal or The Score by Elle Kennedy, or Breakaway by Grace Reilly (I'm sure there are more), then you will enjoy Catching Quinn. Here are some parallels that I have seen with this book and others that I have read. SPOILERS AHEAD. DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SPOILERS

1. Let's start with the names. We have Cooper DeLaurentis. This is a mash-up of Cooper Callahan from Breakaway and Dean DeLaurentis from The Score. While the characters are different, there are some similarities. Cooper Callahan helps Penny with her sex bucket list. Cooper DeLaurentis deflowers Quinn and helps her with a few sexcapades to get some practice under her belt. He doesn't want to leave her with only the missionary position, so he gives her sex education on toys, oral, positions, etc.
2. Cooper DeLaurentis is a ladies man. He is the team and university playboy, some would even call manwhore, but he is unapologetic with his sexual activity and makes sure that his partners are always consensual adults. And there is never a shortage of ladies at his feet, due to his athletic fame, financial status, sex-god reputation, killer body and model-worthy face. This is very reminiscent of Dean DeLaurentis from The Score.
3. Cooper DeLaurentis is the son of a politician who cares about his public image. However, that public image is hiding the true monster he is at home. Cooper's father is a violent man who physically hurts his wife and child. This is very similar to Garrett Graham's father in The Deal. Cooper tries to keep his father happy but at arm's length until he sees that he is financially able to escape being under his abusive father's thumb and make a life on his own.

“Life’s too short to be taken so seriously. Once you figure out what really matters, you fight like hell to protect it, and let all the rest go.”

4.5 Stars!(rounded up to 5) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the third book in the Waverly Wildcats series, and it might be my favorite one so far!

Quinn is determined that this will be the year that she kicks her back luck - and virginity - to the curb. Everything is going according to plan, that is until she runs into Cooper, star wide receiver of the Waverly Wildcats and friend/fraternity brother of her brother. With his misguided sense of bro code, he repeatedly puts an end to every possible hook-up. He has two rules: No virgins and no hooking up with a brother’s sister. But since Cooper is the most notorious player on campus, and Quinn being no pushover, she decides that two can play that game, and they go toe-to-toe, eventually becoming friends. But when feeling start to develop will he be willing to break the rules?

🚨SPOILER ALERT - Proceed with Caution🚨

I loved this book. The characters, the story, the writing style *chef’s kiss* The use of dual POV, almost made this feel like two stories in one. The first half was mostly about Quinn and was funny and fast paced, while the second focused more on Cooper and was more angsty. But the main story was the evolution of Quinn and Cooper’s relationship. The banter throughout was great, I loved how snarky and flirty they both were. And with the amount of desire buried under that banter, it was no surprise when they decide that Cooper is the most logical choice to rid Quinn of her v-card, and agree it’s just a one time thing. Until things don’t go according to plan, and they try again. And again. And again.

”Hey Alexa, play Casual by Chappel Roan”

Quinn may be a hot mess, but she’s also feisty, determined, and kind. This girl know’s what she wants, and it’s going to let anyone stand in her way, except maybe herself. I loved her growth in this book, from a trying to hide her self-consciousness behind self-deprecating jokes, to confident and empowered. I found her character to be very relatable, especially at the end .

Cooper is more than the ‘football/fratboy/player’ facade he’s built. He’s considerate, kind, protective, and dealing with some pretty heavy things. I loved seeing his softer side especially in regards to his mom and Quinn, but I also loved when he realized that while he might be trying to protect them, he shouldn’t control them or the choices they make. He’s a much more rounded character than what you first expect.

🩷The Romance This is a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, sports romance where she falls first, but he falls harder. Quinn and Cooper bring out the best in each other. He helps her find and build her confidence, and she helps him see that he’s more than his family name and nothing like his father. They have such great chemistry and loved watching their relationship evolve. And the Epilogue? 🥰

❤️‍🔥The Spice I’ve learned from the other books that this isn’t an over the top spicy series. And that’s perfectly fine with me. I thought the spice was tastefully done and written in a way that helped build the story, and not overshadow it. Additionally,I’m not big on the virgin trope, but in Quinn’s case she was inexperienced, not naive, which to me made it a lot less cringey.

The Icks The only issue I had was that there were some mistakes in the writing/editing. (Ex. ‘Imaging’ instead ‘imagining’, and “of the of the”)

Overall this was a really cute and fun read. I love a good sports romance and this had enough angst and drama to keep it interesting. Can’t wait to see what’s next in this series.

**Each book in the series is a standalone, but there are cameos from other main characters in each book.**

Quinn-tastic & Super Cooper! Fabulous Story, Narration & Listen🎧

Catching Quinn
Waverly Wildcats, Book 2
By: Jennifer Bonds
Narrated by:James Cassidy, Lucy Rivers

Jennifer Bonds pens another fantastic novel, a sports romance novel that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This second book of her “Waverly Wildcats” series is Cooper and Quinn’s story, and their story stands on its own, though the first book, “Claiming Carter” is just as amazing and not to be missed. Quinn, a college student at Waverly, is on a mission to lose her “V” card, and since all prior attempts failed, she is determined to make it happen. She settled on who she was picking up at the frat party and was close to making it happen, but her brother’s friend and frat brother disrupted and stopped it from happening. Cooper DeLaurentis had scored his own pickup for the night and he was not even sure what got into him or why he needed to save his friend’s sister, but he did and then removed her from the frat house. This is the start of their love/hate or hate/love relationship, and I loved how they bonked heads then and the next times they run into each other. Cooper is not a relationship person, and he does not do V cards, but that did not stop him from being drawn to her and then stopping her from going with anyone else. These two were great together and for each other, despite not knowing that at first, I loved watching their relationship deepen and grow. This is a multilayered story and has the perfect balance of drama, including family drama, heartfelt emotions, humor via witty dialogue and fun times, heartwarming moments and steamy romance. And like the fist book, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development, characters who are complex and solid. What was driving Cooper and what he wanted for his mother both warmed my heart and broke it. Jennifer Bonds, thanks for another delightfully fabulous story, the laughs and the emotional rollercoaster ride. BTW, the Quinn’isms were amazing, so yes, Quinn-tastic is fitting and so is super Cooper!

🎧📚🎧 Jennifer Bonds chose the perfect cast to bring characters to life and portray them. James Cassidy and Lucy Rivers are talented voice artists and they did a fabulous job voicing the characters, humanizing them with the personality and emotions. Rivers nailed it as Quinn, showcasing every aspect of her personality and demeanor, including her frustrations, her strength and determination. She was a natural with the witty dialogue, too. Cassidy was just as amazing in Cooper’s role and showcased his personality perfectly, swoon worthy and all. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the side/secondary characters, too. Their pacing and tone were just right for the story and their performance elevates the already fabulous story to another level. These two are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.

Quinn is a 19 y.o. woman on a mission - to lose her virginity of her own accord. She is tired of waiting around for the right man or the special moment, she just wants to be rid of the burden the title carries and experience what everyone else around keeps hyping up. She is at a frat party, which happens to be the fraternity of her older brother, so as determined as she is, it won't be easy with so many of the guys aware of who she is. So when she finds an unsuspecting guy who isn't aware of her identity she takes advantage of the opportunity and makes her move. But when Cooper, her brother's best friend and the biggest playboy on campus notices what is happening, he makes it his mission to stop them.

After her plans are foiled, she word vomits her truth to Cooper and he is shocked by the information, but decides that its his brotherly obligation to keep cock-blocking her until she comes to her senses and waits for the right guy. Time and again they intercept each other's conquests until they end up spending more time together than they realized and a spark is ignited between them. They start to care for each other and as their relationship progresses they start to become invested and share their secrets and desires with one another. I don't want to give too much plot away, but I will say they both grow and mature in different ways but they bring out the best in each other. They seem like opposites in the beginning but they have so much more in common than they realize and it leads to a relationship that is put to the test but ultimately builds a strong foundations for a lasting love. I loved the character development from both characters in this story that made for a rewarding HEA.

Lucy Rivers and James Cassidy were *CHEF'S KISS*!! I have listened to Lucy's work before but its been a minute and I absolutely loved coming back for more. From Quinn's clutziness to her moments of strength and conviction, Lucy did her journey justice in this performance. James Cassidy is new to me and WOW... JUST WOW. I could listen to this man read me the label on the back of a milk jug and I'd still melt into a complete puddle. I cannot wait to run into his work again!
