1298 A.D.

Lady Diamantha de Bocage Edlington lost her husband at the Battle of Falkirk. Grieving, she is unprepared for the visit of Sir Cortez de Bretagne, King Edward’s garrison commander at Sherborne Castle. Dark and fiery from his Spanish heritage, Cortez is a knight with sultry good looks and a quick temperament. He has also come on a mission.

Cortez was the last man who saw Diamantha’s husband alive and promised the dying man he would take care of his wife. He has therefore come to claim her. Horrified, Diamantha struggles to come to terms with what de Bretagne is telling her, but in her heart, resentment and hatred stir: Robert Edlington’s corpse was left upon the fields of Falkirk and de Bretagne, as the last man to see him, is to blame.

Therefore, before Diamantha will become de Bretagne’s wife, she makes a demand of him: return for Robert’s body and bring him home for a proper burial. And so, the great Questing to find Robert Edlington’s body begins….

Join Diamantha and Cortez on their great journey from the fields of Dorset to the hallowed grounds of Falkirk, a journey during which they discover great and terrible things about the world, their country, and each other. From the ashes of grief rises a phoenix of great passion, and bonds are forged between Diamantha and Cortez that can never be broken.

4/5; 4 stars; A-

I have never read anything by this author before and I don't usually go for Medieval romance but this book was a winner. I guess you could classify it as a 'road romance', but with horses instead of cars.

There wasn't a lot of external conflict in this story, it came from the circumstances surrounding the quest the main characters undertook. I gather from reading reviews of other books by this author that there is normally more action but this book was character and relationship focused. I really enjoyed it. The narrator, Tim Campbell, is new to me also and I liked the way he interpreted the characters. I will definitely read more by this author.

Another fine medieval romance by one of the best! While this one was a bit slower than other edge-of-your-seat offerings by Ms. LeVeque, it is still thoroughly enjoyable and completely sigh worthy!

Made it through an hour of the audio book before I just deleted it with a shudder. Should have checked this author out on GR first. No one that productive can be expected to actually write something of quality.

This Book Had Me At 3% - A Fantastic, fantastic Story - Grab a Box of Kleenex...You have Been Warned

Cortez de Bretagne is a famous knight from a reknowned and respected family. He is dark haird and darked eyed. He is half Spaniard and half Welsh. He has suffered tragedy in his life with the death of his wife and daughter, three years prior to the Battle of Falkirk. At this battle, Cortez the honorible knight that he is, makes a promise to a friend, which he intends to keep and see through.

Diamantha de Bocage Edlington also comes from an impressive lineage of famous knights. Her father, Sir Michael de Bocage served Wiliam de Wolfe, her grandmother was the daughter of Christopher de Lohr and her great grandfather was Ajax de Velt. Any one who has read this author's other books will recognize all of these names. Throughout this magnificent story there will be even more names of others you will recognize. Diamantha has the eyes of Ajax de Velt, two-colored and is beautiful with Reddish brown hair.

I try not to do spoilers so here it is... these two will meet and the battle, the heartfelt journey and quest begin for all involved.

This magnificent book, had me at 3%. What do I mean? WelI, I can tell you at 3% of this book I was sobbing and had to stop reading. Throughout the reading of this book I had to literally have a box of Kleenex next to me. It was that emotional and heart wrenching for me personally.

I normally read a book a day. I could not do this with The Questing because I had to stop reading because I was emotionally drained. It took me 3 nights to finish it. Now this is definately not a negative, on the contrary it is a huge compliment to this gifted and fabulous author. I will honestly tell you, I have never come across a Medieval book that has done this to me to this degree. Only one other book came close in this genre and it was Lord of the Shadows and I can tell you it was not to the degree of this book, The Questing.

I highly recommend this book. This author slings you over her shoulder and deposits you into such an emotional journey with these characters in The Questing. She has outdone herself.

I can only hope I piqued your interest and you can obtain The Questing and enjoy it as much as I did. For me The Questing is a keeper, which I will re-read over and over, over the years.

I participated in a live stream KLV did with Amazon a few days ago. I made a statement during it, that my favorite character she wrote and one that stayed with me forever was Jax from the DARK LORD. That was not an easy book to read, but the transformation of Jax was amazing. I only mentioned this now because Jax is mentioned a lot in this story, even though he has been dead over 100 years from when this takes place.

i didn't give this 5 stars because something bothered me and I couldn't let it go. Our h is emotional drained because she lost the love of her life only 3 months ago. She first tells our H that until she sees his body, she believes he is alive. Then only a few days later, she agrees to marry the H and consummates the marriage (rather passionately) a few days later. WHAT HAPPENED IF HE WAS STILL ALIVE????

There are a few fight scenes that are not a gruesome as some of this author's stories. I loved how the character's from previous books (or their descendants) have a part in this story, made it richer in reading it.

The h's daughter brings much humor to this story. I enjoyed that the author included an epilogue 15 years in the future and it warmed my heart but also had a sadness of something that is discovered. This is about the journey as the author stated and it was a very emotional one too. We do get HEA and no cliffhanger.

As the author states her books are stand alone, but I enjoyed how she tells you where you can read about the character's parents or grandparents
in her other books. Which I have read all of them. I about 65 of this author's novels, as she is a favorite of mine on how she writes her character's and weaves a story.

There are only a few mildly described love scenes, passionately written and not erotic. I am not going into the blurb, as so many have described it, only what you may discover if you read it. (ljb)

Audiobook Review:

Kathryn Le Veque always provides a small part of history for me with exquisite detail about people who lived in that period, enticing me further to chase down how it fits into the big plan of our past whether it be political, social, or environmental. Thank God for the ease of access through the internet. This is one of the reasons I particularly enjoy her writing which leans heavily on events of history which Ms. Le Veque expressively uses. I am never disappointed in any of the author’s medieval stories. She creates a world I can reach out and touch. That’s great writing!

This story begins with the Battle of Falkirk, the place where Lady Diamantha’s husband had been cut down by an arrow. The English won this particular battle, but lost many men. The story proceeds with a quest. One Lady Diamantha needed to take. She wanted to return to the scene of the battle to see if she could retrieve her late husband’s body. Her quest included learning the true merit of men in dangerous days. Some were found wanting indeed, while others touched her heart and one her very soul.

Sir Cortez found what he knew not what he lacked. He came to many realizations on the journey. He had found his quest, his quest was his lady wife and her adorable daughter, Sophie.

The story was rich in description, culture, etiquette and tradition of the time. Mesmerized by the hardship of living life those many years back, I was, as well, completely captivated by its emotional pull to my senses.

This story dealt with what is buried in the hearts of man and his need to seek revenge long after that emotion should have died. Equally founded in this story is what man will do to protect those he loves from evil doers and unhappiness. (This listen will require a box of tissue.)

Tim Campbell did a marvelous job in every aspect of the production. He carried well the intention of the author. His female impersonations were marvelous. I no longer heard a male impersonating a woman, but a female in dialog. He was successful in telling the story in its dramatic setting in an authentic and totally riveting effect. He has narrated several of this author’s novels which I will be listening to. I listened to some of the samples of his voice overs and find he really is very versatile and engaging.

I liked the story. Didn't love it anywhere close as "The Outlander". I had hoped for more history, but I didn't get that. We begin with a battle scene at Falkirk. Sir Cortez de Bretagne, King Edward’s garrison commander at Sherborne Castle promises his dying friend that he would take care of his wife. As in marry her. Oh, this is going to be good, I'm thinking. Let's guess, now. She doesn't want to marry him. He's honorable, and so he must. She fights him. Do they fall in-love? It's not too hard to guess.

I did like Cortez's character. He was honorable, and I liked how tender and kind he was to Diamantha's daughter. There's a little sex, but nothing over the top.

I found myself frustrated with Diamantha . C'mon. She can't be happy unless her husband's body , who is buried under mud and deader 'n a door nail is found and returned home for a proper burial?! On top of that, she wants her 3 year old to accompany them on this dangerous journey. Woman! How stupid can you be?!

I calmed down as the tail end of the story gave me an unexpected twist. Good show!

I didn't hate the book. I didn't love the book. It's just more romance than history. That's the part I found a little disappointing.

4.5* Another great medieval saga from Ms LeVeque!! Loved the hero and heroine...and the adorable Sophie. Wonderful to see the grandsons of so many great knights from previous books. Heartfelt, humorous and sensual. An amazing epilogue that had me in tears.

Audio book review.

I kinda knew what to expect going into this: traditional romance with flowery exaggerated language and situations, overly formal interactions and sex scenes, and cringy traditionalism when it comes to being virginal, getting married, and having children. I think I could have predicted most of what happened in this book (with one annoying twist that I did NOT appreciate. It felt very forced and totally ruined the mood of the rest of the book. No spoilers, don't worry, but MY GOSH). Overall, an okay story, but I have issues with it.

Things that annoyed me: Our main man has been a widower for three years, the main woman has only been a widower for three months, and he says he simply can't wait to have her any longer, barges in and lays down the law. Both of the characters talk about having secret feelings for the other, even though both of them had been faithfully married before! There were several references to never having felt this strongly before, and it felt very disrespectful of those loved ones who had passed. The gaudy cross necklace that our main lady is gifted is constantly referred to as a collar, and this just annoys me from a modern standpoint. Hello, she's not a dog! The sex scenes, while hot, seem to just come out of NOWHERE. Literally, there is no discussion of physical attraction or nearness, no chemistry, no flirtiness. Just all of a sudden, he can't take it, she's just too gorgeous, even though they were talking calmly about something else just two paragraphs earlier. The main twist annoys the hell out of me, because the truth NEVER COMES OUT! He learns this big secret and NEVER tells her. They live happily ever after and have a ton of babies. And lastly, an issue throughout the entire book is the author's inability to convince me this actually takes place during the late 1200's. The speech, clothing, and actions of the characters are not historically accurate, especially the main woman who is way too progressive in her role. I'm not buying it.

Would recommend, but only if you can deal with the seriously dated storyline and flat characters.

Pertama, karakterisasi heronya, bener-bener kriteria suami idaman. Sayang anak-istri, all out utk nyenengin istri & anak, protektif, caring, humoris, dll.

The Questing is a beautifully poignant book about love, loss and then new love found. As Sir Cortez de Bretagne and Lady Diamantha embark on this heart warming journey together, reader gains insight into loyalty, friendship, desire and love. Kathryn Le Veque also has a wonderful way of describing how awful life could be in these dark Medieval ages and how precious life truly was. The honour and friendship shared by Cortez and his Knights who are all very close friends, is explained so wonderfully, the camaraderie between the Knights is very special. But there is also humour and gentleness in this book, which is in the form of lovely little Lady Sophie. It is a thoroughly heart warming and enjoyable read.

It's good

I love hisrom
The detail in this genre is amazing
The way the author write so detail, brings me in time. I feel like watching a great historical romance movie
The amount of research time... I can only imagine
To have those effort to bring this story to life... I have no words simply amazing
I have my own respect for hisrom author.

For this book, with the promise of a great quest, adventure... I didn't realise I read until 50% in one sitting.
But then it got dull. I feel drag in the story. It's too slow for my liking. No spike or intense moment in the plot. Until the very end. That little Twist in the plot, although I have suspect and wish... Still not over the top suprising but save the day for this book.

Excellent

I've written so many of these reviews - and they're pretty much all the same. This was another wonderful story by K. Le Vecque. This one may actually have been one of the very best. it entails the search for a corpse, actually. Cortez de Bratagne was asked on the battlefield by his dying friend to swear that he would take care of his family (marry his wife and care for her & his daughter). So he did. However the wife was still grieving her husband and both she and her new husband wanted to bring the first husband's body home to rest. So they set off to do just that - all the way to Scotland they went. But what started as a quest for a corpse turned into something else. This was a wonderful book!

This story happens before Swords and Shields, but comes after it in the anthology.

Cortez, whom we met in Swords and Shields, was in the Battle of Falkirk with his friend, Robert. When Robert is mortally wounded, he begs Cortez to marry his wife so that she will be protected. Cortez must leave his friend, and when he goes back to Robert, Robert's body was gone. So he completes Robert's last request to marry his wife, but also takes on Diamantha's request: to find Robert's body for proper burial.

Diamantha and Robert have a small girl named Sophie. Sophie and her little girl ways twists into Cortez's heart (and the heart of some of his knights). Diamantha is determined both to go with Cortez as well as not being separated from her young daughter. So both of them went with Cortez and his knights up to Scotland. Many adventures and encounters happened during the journey, and both Cortez and Diamantha deal with interpersonal conflicts as well as how to interact as husband and wife.

Sophie loves collecting animals, so by the end of the trip, she had a rabbit kit, a fox kit, two cat kittens, and a puppy. I am quite surprised that the rabbit kit wasn't killed by being with predators in a small cage.

In Falkirk, Sophie contracted a wasting illness and Diamantha focused on her rather than go searching for Robert. As Cortez and his knights searched for Robert, an unexpected tip leads them to him. His body was prepared to return with everyone to be buried.

the Epilogue told the reader about the other children that Cortez and Diamantha had when getting prepared to visit Sophie at the birth of her first child.

The author notes that many of her novels converge in this book:
Christopher de Lohr (Rise of the Defender
Davyss de Winter/Drake de Winter (Lespada and Swords and Shields)
Christian St. John The Warrior Poet
Michael de Bocage (Diamantha's father), one of William de Wolfe's knights The Wolfe

A journey of enlightenment!

From the start this story grabs your attention and never lets go! It was amazing how many different encounters happen during this story to enlighten Lady Diamantha to a world she was so naive to. And Sir Cortez de Bretagne learns and becomes more throughout the quest to bring peace to his friend's grieving widow than he dared imagine! This beautiful, at times poignant, yet very turbulent 2nd chance at love story will have you on the edge of your chair to the very end!

Second Chances For Love

This is a story of deep lasting friendships of men with true honor and love of one another. A love story as deep and rich as any I've had the privilege of reading with the love of a man for a woman and the father love for her child. This takes place in a time of terrible unrest between England, Scotland and the Welsh Borders. A love story at it's best.

Listening to this was fill of eyerolls (for the woman I am) and find smiles (for the girl I was). I don't think I read this one as a girl, but I read many like it and utterly devoured them. The stars are purely for nostalgia, because books that transport you back through your own timeline are priceless.

This a remarkable story. I have never read a book that brought tears to my eyes, but this one did and more than once. All of the characters are well-written and there was a twist that I never expected later in the story. I fell in love with Cortez and Diamantha's love story. It is packed with strong and heartfelt emotion and is simply awesome.

I can’t say enough about Kathryn’s books. It keeps you reading to the very end. You can just picture the scenes as they happened. I have read so many of her books and looking forward to reading many more. She keeps you interested until the very end. Enjoyed the book and could visualized the scenes.
