Various States of Undress #3

Various States of Undress: Georgia

Rate this book
Laura Simcox concludes her fun, flirty Various States of Undress series with a presidential daughter, a hot baseball player, and a tale of love at the ballgame.

Forget being the president's daughter—Georgia Fulton is certain that she's on her way to journalistic stardom. Nothing's going to keep her from getting the story of her young career—a feature on sexy ballplayer Brett Knox … nothing except Brett, that is. Arrogantly charming and hotter than a Memphis summer, he's doing everything he can to distract her. He may be the focus of her assignment, but getting too close to him could cost her everything … including her heart.

Brett Knox, star player for the Memphis Redbirds, is determined to get to the big leagues—which means no distractions. Certainly not in the form of a sexy brunette who won't take no for an answer. As far as Brett's concerned, his life story isn't up for discussion—no matter how fast Georgia makes his heart race. But with everything on the line, he's got no choice but to trust her. If only he can trust himself … not to fall head over heels for the one girl completely out of his league.

After spending twenty years in professional theater as a costume designer, with a few of those years also spent as a college instructor, Laura abandoned the nomadic lifestyle to sit in a comfy office chair at a second hand oak desk and write. The result? Romance novels! Her favorite thing ever since she was, oh, about twelve. She writes contemporary, light novels and enjoys creating quirky characters and funny, sexy dialogue. Still, the love story is the focus and Laura has a huge soft spot for a sappy, happy ending.

Laura lives in North Carolina with her husband (true love is real!) and her adorable, high energy four year old son who is currently obsessed with How to Train Your Dragon. And that's cool, because she trains her own little dragon every single day. For escape, she flits around on social media, so come say hi!

4 Stars!

I had so much fun with this book! This book is the third book in the Various States of Undress series but I had absolutely no trouble reading it as a stand alone novel. When I requested this book, I thought it looked like a sweet romance and I was right to an extent. It was sweet but there was so much more to the story than I had expected.

I fell in love with Brett right away. Who wouldn't? He is a sexy athlete who happens to play minor league baseball for the best team in the United States - the St. Louis Cardinals (just in case you haven't guessed - I live in St. Louis and love my Cardinals!). Brett has worked hard to get where he is and has overcome a lot in his life. He is a genuinely nice guy in this story.

I liked Georgia just as much as I loved Brett. Georgia is one of the President's daughters. I have never given a lot of thought as to what that might actually be like before reading this story. Georgia is an overachiever in school and just needs to complete an internship before she can graduate with a degree in journalism. She signs on with the station in Memphis just to find out that they really want to exploit her celebrity status instead of letting her work on news stories that matter to her. Because of who she is, Georgia can't just go anywhere and do anything like most people. When Georgia goes somewhere it is news and she has to bring along her secret service staff and constantly think about security.

Georgia's main assignment for internship is to get a detailed interview with Brett who is a local celebrity. Brett has had a crush on Georgia for a long time but he really doesn't want to share his life on the local television news station. As the pair start spending more time together, sparks fly and they soon become a couple.

I really liked everything about this story. The characters were smart and had a lot of depth. I thought that their love story was very realistic. They got to actually know each other before developing a relationship. The writing was smart and the pacing made the book hard to put down. I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves contemporary romance. This is the first book by Laura Simcox that I have had a chance to read and I plan to look for more from this very talented author.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher Avon Impulse via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. It was just released on January 6th.

I will start by saying that Goodreads says this book is 100 pages. I have no way to validate this as it was an e-book but I am pretty sure it was longer than that. While still a quick read based on my usual reading patterns I would say it was more around 150-200 pages.

This was a really cute story. The concept of two people who are public figures meeting and falling in love all while trying to stay out of the public eye. I enjoyed the concept that Georgia was the daughter of the president of the USA and her interaction with her secret service agents. That reminds me....this is the third in a series. While I have not read the other stories and it in no way impeded the enjoyment of this one, the references to the other sisters has me interested in what occurred in their stories.

Both Georgia and Brett were solid characters. Georgia was intelligent and ambitious without being entitled or boring. Brett was for lack of a better word...HOT. A sexy athlete with a charming personality and brains to boot. I think Simcox may have captured every females fantasy with him. The chemistry between the two was sizzling.

I felt that perhaps Brett was a little too obsessed with his background and dwelled on it as opposed to using it to motivate his future. I suppose there would not have been much of a story if he hadn't but just a small observation on my part. That aside there were no real character flaws.

I wont go in to much detail as it is not a long story but I will see it was an enjoyable pastime. Those who enjoy light hearted romance will be sure to enjoy this read. I really do need to go back to read the other two stories as I am curious as to how all of the sisters turned out

Geogia Fulton, is one of the three daughter of the President, and is dedicated to her dream of being a journalist. On her internship, she is assigned to a sports feature on Brett Knox. Georgia has always had a weakness for sports players, but when she meets Brett she knows she is in deep trouble. Brett, is on his way to big leagues and making the dream of his career, but when he learns that the one woman he has had a crush on Georgia Fulton for years, is the woman to interview him and learn the secrets of his past, he knows that he isn’t sure if his heart will keep from being involved. Georgia and Brett have instant chemistry, but their careers are clashing, and secrets are bound to come out…but will they find a common balance or lose a future together…

This is the first book that I have read from this author…and what a story! I had such a fun time with this one. For a little while I have seen previous books of this series pop up with stellar reviews and high rating, and since of late I have been getting into sports romances, I was so delighted when I was given the opportunity to participate in this blog tour and have the chance to try this author out. I really had a difficult time putting this one down. There was such a fun flirty tone to the story that really pulled me in, and I loved the whole aspect of ball player and president daughter together…definitely a different set up and one I truly reveled in.

This story starts off with seeing these two have a high attraction to each other, but their chemistry is pretty hot, and they seemed to have a connection to each other, and despite where their careers are leading them, and the cirucmstances that have brought them together. Brett is on his way to the big leagues and becoming a famous ball player just like his brother, but there are secrets from his past he wants to just keep hidden. Georgia has her orders, to find whatever she can on Brett, but the more time that they spend together, the more she realizes that Brett is honest and good, the more she decides that she will have to make a choice her career or Brett in her life.

These two were so right for each other, and their families see it right away even before they do. It was quite hoot of fun seeing these two figure things out, and it definitely isn’t done in a classy way. They really struggle with some inner pasts and demons, but they had a solid connection and the way this story was written, you can’t help but find yourself cheering for them all the way. Both characters were fun and spirited, and just watching these two, kept me energized while reading, and I just love it when stories give you that feeling and it definitely won me over from beginning to end….this pair is a personal favorite of the year, and I just am itching to read the previous books in the series.

Overall a fun and sweet toned romance that will have you salivating from every pore in delight, a romance too charming for words! BEYOND EXPECTATIONS!!

Georgia Fulton is looking forward to working on some major investigative pieces at her new internship but the boss from hell, looking to cash in on her notoriety has chosen to have her write stories on the local celebrities and up first is the star catcher of the hometown baseball team, Brett Knox. To say that Georgia is not happy with the assignment is an understatement, at least until she sets eyes on Brett.

Brett has been nursing a major crush on Georgia for a while and finally getting to meet her is a dream come true. However, no matter how attractive he finds her, he is not willing to stroll down memory lane and share painful details of his past. It’s now up to Georgia to convince him otherwise. The more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to resist the attraction between them.

I share Georgia’s disinterest in baseball so I was concerned that there would be a lot of baseball information in this book which would affect my enjoyment of it, but my worries were needless because Ms. Simcox has written two very lovable characters. Georgia is smart and brainy and I absolutely adored her. She is an everyday all-American girl, not some elegant and poised catwalk beauty and dare I say a little bit clumsy? Brett is just an all-round sweet guy, gentle, funny and charming. Both of them have some baggage from their past to overcome and having a relationship in the public eye is kind of difficult, especially with Georgia’s piranha of a boss breathing down her neck for salacious details on Brett, but I loved Georgia even more for standing her ground and refusing to reduce her assignment to tabloid fare.

These two had some major chemistry not not just between the sheets. Their interactions made for a lot of laughter-filled moments for me. In all, VARIOUS STATES OF UNDRESS: GEORGIA is a delightfully fun and lighthearted read!

Georgia Fulton is a woman on a mission - finish a summer internship so that she can finish college and then work in the television business. She will not let anyone or anything get in her way. Georgia also happens to be the daughter of the President of the United Sates.

Brett Knox is a catcher for the Memphis Redbirds. He also has big dream that he will let no one or thing get in the way of - getting called up to the Big Leagues and playing for the St Louis Cardinals.

When Georgia is assigned to the baseball beat for her internship with the instructions to interview Brett and to get his life story on tape. When the two meet, sparks ignite. Will they be able to ignore the feelings that are developing between them?

Various States of Undress: Georgia is a wonderful, warm, fun book to read. If you are looking for a lite, feel-good book, this book is perfect for you. I love Georgia's spunk and her drive. She never thought she was better than anyone because she was the daughter of the President. I love Brett, specifically his drive and passion for his family, his team, the game and eventually Georgia. While this is book three in the series, it can easily be read as stand alone. I cannot recommend this book highly enough - this is one you do not want to miss.

So...I think that GEORGIA has won out as my favorite of the Various States of Undress Series. I not only have a thing for sexy baseball players, but I love a fun, sarcastic heroine, who is a little curvelacious and somewhat a dork...Georgia was awesome!

Laura has given us a the final book in the Various States Series with a great storyline, fresh characters with some great chemistry (loved the learning to throw the ball scene...I love those first sparks of attraction). The storyline has a bit of a twist, and not a whole lots of angst (thank God), it was just good 'ole fashioned romance at it'd finest!

Now I will tell you that all the books in the series have their fair share of great qualities, such as each couple was written as likable and they all had that "spark", but Georgia and Brett just kind of lit up the pages with sexual attraction...I'll take a bit of "Knox the Fox"!

I am SOOOOOO hoping that Laura will do a series with the rest of the team from the Redbirds Team! Maybe...Yes...No...PLEASE!!

Grab GEORGIA, but make sure to read CAROLINA and VIRGINIA as well, which are both ONLY $0.99 right now!!

I have underestimated the "boring" presidential daughter.

This is the last book in the series, and every book has always been sweet, romantic, sassy, and hot. I love each one of them, but I must admit Georgia is my favorite. Not just because she's sweet, and the youngest, but this girl is beauty and brains, not to mention, ambition. She wanted to achieve something not because she is the daughter of the president, but because she deserved it.

It was funny to see a man who has this 'crazy crush' on someone. Especially when that certain man is the star catcher of the Memphis Redbirds, Brett Knox. Ever since he saw her in one of the functions, he was completely taken by her. Now, she's in Memphis for her internship. Funny thing is, she was asked to do an interview on him. But no matter how charming this girl is, or how much he wanted her, there was no way she was going to get her story. He wanted to look forward, to his future, not go back to his past and tell his story out loud. His main goal was to get back into the big leagues, and play really well.

All Georgia Fulton wanted was to become a respected journalist. She prefers to do it her own way, and earn it without the label of being the president's daughter. She was asked to interview a star athlete who wanted to do everything to her except for the interview. But she's determined to get it, it was a sure way of making all her dreams come true. First, she needs to convinced him.

Will both get exactly what they wanted without breaking their hearts? Or would their hearts be placed on the line?

I like the president that was projected in this series: he loves his children and finds time to come to them whichever they are. No funny incident in this book, unlike in Virginia's which had me laughing out loud. However, Georgia will always be my favorite. They are great girls, who deserves their happy endings - but this sweet, shy girl who only wanted to succeed without the help of the president. She was intelligent and determined enough to do it, of course, not without those people who are willing to associate with her because of the perks that comes along of being the Presidential daughter. Despite her eagerness of doing her job, I was so glad she maintained the dignity and adhere to the ethics of professional journalism. She could easily hand down information, but she didn't.

This book is filled with complex characters that had me laughing, annoyed and frustrate the heck out of me. But they did make the book interesting and worthwhile. I enjoyed reading the last book of this series, and would recommend this one for friends who love perfectly paced, sweet and hot romantic read.

Oh god. Baseball. *groans then winks*

I'm a diehard football fan. Baseball? Meh. I can live with it and I can live without it. This book though? Totally made me reconsider my love/hate relationship with this sport.

And I don't know about you, but I haven't read a lot of sports romances where the hero is a catcher. He's usually the ace pitcher, the star quarterback, the cleanup guy. But the catcher?

Brett was an incredible character to get to know. He was kind of like an onion. The top layer was what the public saw: a kick ass catcher with hot body and mind-numbing smile. But who was he really? Georgia was assigned the task of finding out more about Brett through the station she interned with. Spending time with him, asking him questions, and reading between the lines revealed more about the man behind the uniform than I expected.

The game winning part of this book wasn't their relationship, his good looks, her incredible brain, or even the sex. It was Georgia's disinterest in baseball. Sounds weird, but it's not only because I can relate. Just like Georgia grew to like baseball because of Brett, I grew to like baseball because of my husband.

A great story is one I not only enjoy reading but it's one I can connect to. Maybe it's a character or a situation. Maybe it's a reaction or an emotion. Whatever "it" is, it's what makes a good story a great story for me. Ms. Simcox wrote about a president's daughter but made her relative. She isn't perfect, isn't stunning by society's standards, isn't a bitch. She's pleasant, beautiful in her own way, and holds her own when need be. The man she fell in love with not only adored her physical traits, but he didn't change her into who he felt she should be given her celebrity status and his. Brett and Georgia fell in love for all the right reasons. There were obstacles on their way to happily ever after, but they were strong enough (as individuals and as a couple) to overcome them.

Lighthearted with very well developed characters, this is one contemporary romance you don't want to miss out on. If you haven't read anything by Ms. Simcox, I hope you give this one a try. I think you'll love it as much as I did.

4.5*

I was given a copy of this book to write an honest review for Cocktails and Books.

Laura Simicox writes a short and sweet story with just enough tension to make the reader want to read more. Each book in this series is about a different daughter of the president of the United States and now we finally learn Georgia’s story, the youngest sibling. Georgia’s a senior in college and excited she’s finally achieving her goal and starting an internship at a Memphis TV station. Unfortunately, once Georgia starts her internship, real life slaps her in the face when she meets the boss from hell.

Georgia is disappointed when she learns her first assignment is interviewing a baseball player. She doesn’t know anything about baseball and wants to sink her teeth into hard news. When she meets Brett, the sexy catcher for the Memphis Redbirds, sparks immediately fly between them. However, even though Brett is attracted Georgia, he lets her know he has no interest in being interviewed. I like Brett and Georgia and their chemistry is off the charts. I found it easy to connect with them, even though they are celebrities, they are down to earth and hard working. I love all the banter between Brett and his teammates. They are a tight knit group and their jokes, pranks and trash talking had me laughing out loud many times. This is a Charming, fun and sexy story. It’s the third and last book in The Various States of Undress series and a stand-alone.

Posted on What I'm Reading

When I started Various States of Undress: Georgia, I wasn't sure where I was going to go with my thoughts. Honestly, they are all over the place. However, I did find this story fun and enjoyable. So, we have Georgia who has a thing for athletes. Nothing wrong there, but she's been burned by one. So, she has a jaded attitude when it comes to them. Then we have Brett, who is star catcher on his way to big leagues, and is a little leery towards the media. After all he doesn't want his past thrown into his face.

What I really liked about this story was how Georgia and Brett had to overcome their fears and past. However, that wasn't the only thing that really got me caught up into Various States of Undress: Georgia, but Georgia's boss. Now Joan is a a real bitch. I was trying to figured out who she remind me of, but it wasn't coming to me until I got closer to the end when it hit me. Joan reminded me of a less classy version of Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada). So, Georgia kind of reminded me of Andy, but didn't she didn't sell her soul or values for the WHAP.

Overall, Various State of Undress: Georgia is pretty entertaining story with Georgia and Brett fighting their attraction. I totally adore Brett for having crush on the smarty-pants daughter. So, if you are looking for a cute read, I would suggest A Various State of Undress: Georgia.

I happened to read this during the baseball playoffs, so I was in the mood for a baseball romance. This fun story gives a little insight into minor league baseball and is good for anybody who likes a sports hero.

Presidential daughter Georgia Fulton wants to ace her internship at the local Memphis, TN, tv station. She'd be happy writing in-depth reports and fact-checking, but the station manager isn't going to let the opportunity to boost ratings by putting Georgia on the air slip by. So Georgia is assigned to cover the Memphis Redbirds and get the scoop on sexy superstar catcher Brett Knox.

Brett has no problem flashing his stunning smile for the cameras, but he is only interested in talking baseball and concentrating on getting back to the major leagues. He doesn't want to talk about his disadvantaged childhood or his family.

These two shouldn't have a thing in common, especially since Georgia doesn't know much about baseball. But the sparks fly soon enough, and it's fun watching them learn about each other's worlds.

I'd recommend this for baseball season or any time of year. I've read Carolina's book and enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading Virginia's book.

Brett is not only HOT, he is also smart and funny. I loved the way he had a crush on Georgia after just seeing her at a fundraiser. Georgia is so much more than what you would expect to from the President's daughter. She is down to earth, smart and sexy. Brett and Georgia make a great couple and their chemistry is strong. Sweet, sexy romance without tons of drama. Can be read as a standalone, but after reading this book, you will want to read the first two as well.
