Stressaholic: 5 Steps to Transform Your Relationship with Stress

Rate this book
A guidebook for the journey from exhaustion to enlightenment

Chronic multitasking and ever-increasing demands on our time and energy have caused a neurochemically based dependence on sources of stress and stimulation to provide fuel for our chaotic lifestyles. While this may boost performance in the short term, studies have consistently shown that when stress hormones are elevated over time they create the worst form of internal wear and tear, decreasing productivity, wasting time, and even killing brain cells. As a result, modern society is tired and wired, suffering from physical exhaustion while mentally amped up and unable to get adequate rest.

Stressaholic explains the impact of chronic stress on the body, mind, and spirit, and shows how a simple shift in mindset can dramatically alter the body's response to stress. The Stressaholic Recovery Process restores system-wide resilience toward stress in five simple steps, which include:

Rest to balance brain chemistry with strategic relaxation and recovery
Repair to calm and nourish cells with energy-enhancing nutrients
Rebuild to strengthen mental and physical fitness to optimize energy
Rethink to optimize your perspective to see stress as a challenge instead of a threat
Redesign to develop "BEATs" that provide structure for ongoing energy management
Stressaholic shows you how to win the war on stress without limiting your progress by creating an optimal performance pulse of stress and recovery for life. With easy-to-implement tips and real-world examples of individuals and organizations that have turned stress into sustainable drive, Stressaholic will guide you on your journey from exhaustion to enlightenment!

Great book! I found it very helpful, because I have been thinking about these things for a long time, but I had no idea how to fix these problems. Now I'm in progress for better stress management. Awesome!

Kinda conflicted because the book was overall decent/good and I would even want to buy it to go over some of the concepts again, but other parts of the book took too long or weren't that helpful to me.

Important knowledge
Page 11 has a chart on acute response and chronic response to stress
Including:
SHORT TERM: Increase in adrenaline / LONG TERM: Increase in cortisol
SHORT TERM: Increase in blood sugar / LONG TERM: Excess sugar stored as fat
SHORT TERM: Enhanced immune functioning / LONG TERM: Increased inflammation
SHORT TERM: Improved short-term memory / LONG TERM: Poor decision making

I finished reading this book in one afternoon (applied speed-reading method taught by Jim Kwik). The ideas of managing your energy and importance of good nutrition in dealing with stress were new to me. Although I was already familiar with the other concepts, I enjoyed reading this book.

Not the greatest book. Too much repetition

It was good. I felt like it was very repetitive. I’m glad I read it because it gave me some helpful tips to transform my relationship with stress but again very repetitive.

A good look at how to adjust my life.

Five step process from the table of contents: (1) rest (2) repair (3) rebuild (4) rethink (5) redesign.

Also included is a five step process for changing attitude (5 A's) and four step process for improving habits (BEATs).

Catch the author on Fox News c/o Goodmans Speakers Bureau and Underground Wellness.

Next, I'm looking up some books the author suggests and her previous works.

I'm familiar with the concepts that this book presented. The narration of the audio was flat. Luckily it was short.
