Five broken alphas. One lost wolf. A fate she never expected.
My life is irreversibly changed by coming to Silver Falls University. Although I don't truly realize just how much until we visit the Whitepaw pack. I wish I could say that the most upsetting part was reuniting with a pack that had no problem expressing their dislike of me. No, instead I find myself remembering something about my past that I'd completely forgotten.
That realization comes with the knowledge that my mates and I are in so much more danger than ever before. Especially now that Dr. Haistain has taken drastic action to force our hand on creating a mating bond by shaming my mates…
At least that was what we assumed when he invited all of their families to campus. Instead, he suggests something so drastic it brings someone completely unexpected into our lives.
What they tell me, what I discover about my past…changes everything.
Join Effie Harlow on her journey at Silver Falls University. Or will Effie get lost in the university crowds like she did back home? Find out in this third installment of five in the Silver Falls University series.
M. Sinclair is a USA Today Best-Selling Author who can be found writing or thinking about her characters and plots nearly every moment of the day. Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
I'm still enjoying this series very much! The story is moving towards something interesting but there's still a lot of focus on the relationship between the heroine and her mates. This is very much on the fluff side of PNR RH and my mood reader brain is really vibing with it so far.
2.5 stars…and I feel like I didn’t read the same book as everyone else.
I could basically copy/paste my review of the previous book and apply it to this one. There is very little that actually happens in this book, and Effie continues to annoy the ever-loving crap out of me. I used to think she was naive but now I think she’s deliberately obtuse. Her mates will declare their undying devotion to her but she wakes up alone once and suddenly doubts everything. Really? Get over yourself.
Also, nearly every single day and every single interaction she has with her pack, ends with her falling asleep or some other form of unconsciousness. And every time she wakes up her stomach rumbling interrupts an important conversation. It’s literally the same, over-used deflection. Every. Single. Time. Also, each one of these books ends suddenly as though in the middle of a conversation or scene.
The only saving grace (and the thing that keeps me interested) is how devoted her mates are to her. I crave a story where the ‘harem’ is so dedicated to their fated mate, and this does deliver in that aspect. So I will grudgingly continue the series, as I also want to see the MMC’s finally getting to bond with Effie the way they crave.
I’m a total softie towards Effie and her mates! She’s just so adorably innocent and pure. I love that about her. She’s genuine and all her reactions to every day things that we take for granted are enjoyable to read about. Her mates treat her like a queen and I just absolutely love reading how they treat her. It always puts a goofy smile on my face. Poor Effie has been on a non-stop rollercoaster of crap since she showed up at the university. Her relationships with each guy has grown and I’m so happy to see how things have progressed especially with Caedmon and Ryder. We’re finally getting somewhere with Effie’s past and her origin and I can’t wait to see what the next book has in store for her and her mates!
Holy shit! This was my favorite book of the series. I can't wait to the next one. Unfortunately, I don't normally read series like this unless they're completed but I didn't realize that there was a fourth book and it hasn't been completed yet. Which sucks. I just found out that I'm going to have to wait until January to find out the conclusion. Or is it the conclusion? They don't exactly say if it is or isn't. Either way I have a long way to head of me and I'm not impressed by that. But whatever.
I'm in this to the end to see where it goes but this series is dragging. We are on book three and it's been a month maybe? The plot, mating and everything else is moving at a glacial pace and if book 4 doesn't step it up I may be out
I'm enjoying that our heroine isn't an awful character and that her mates genuinely are Alphas however is it just me or is she always falling asleep and not eating?? Wouldn't particularly care if every time she ate something it wasn't emphasised.
My big issue with this one is Effy isn't quite connecting the dots laid out fully for us. Which just makes up for eyeroll moments. She's uneasy again and again but she ignores it even knowing what happens if she does. She's told a direct message about being in danger and to seek help... Again she ignores it in favour of picking out dresses. Also why oh why are any important, private conversations being help in public when everyone has super hearing. The scene with her old pack honestly!! TSTL
But alas I've come this far, onward to book 4 and hopefully closure.
Effie and her guys are back and even though it’s only been a couple weeks since meeting, they are all starting to feel less insecure with Effie in this book and you see more communication on both sides. It was nice to see Effie also start to gain some confidence in herself and realise the way she had been treated in her past was wrong. I loved getting the glimpses of Effie’s past and can’t wait to figure out what she is ….and that ending! Oh Snap! Can’t wait to see what happens next!
The cliffhangers on these books make everything worth it! So many answers and added questions on the last chapter! Effie and her mates are really taking charge and getting all the answers they need and I’m here for all of it!
It's a little unfair how good this series is. It causes me to read it so quickly that I am finished very quickly. Effie and her Mates are complex and beautifully written. The story kept me hooked from word one. The cliffhanger ending was killer. I really need the next book in the series.
The continuation of Effie Harlow's story. This had more drama surrounding Effie and the danger surrounding her as well as her mates. I feel like a little bit is disjointed and while she has other mates the story focuses really on one or two. Want to read more and the story does continue to peak my interest am anxious to see how it will all come together.
M. Sinclair stories are fun little palette cleansers that I can enjoy between heavier tomes. It's sometimes refreshing to read RH where all of the harem are super devoted to the MC. Usually there's that one guy that's always more of an asshole... but that's not the case here; they're all super loveable and also have distinct personalities. Effie is cute for the most part, even though I find myself eye-rolling a lot of the time at how naive her character is. For the most part the dialogue in these books is pretty superficial; I'd love some meatier conversations, if you will.
Overall, the story is progressing nicely - we know a little bit more about Effie's backstory and where she comes from now, although there's still a lot of questions that need answering.
I'm a bit confused about Julian at this point though. If his wolf, Coffin, "merged"?? with him after he bit Effie, what happened to his actual wolf that was his animal pre-Coffin?? Also, if he lost his memories as well, who took care of him? Where did he get all of his wealth? I wanna know.
How can he say he loves her just to turn around and make her Pizza Rolls in the microwave? It’s shameful. They’re a collection of powerful magical shifters, drawn together by the inexorable pull of fate and magic, able to house a predatory animal’s consciousness within them and assume its form at will, yet you’d have us believe their five-year-old state-of-the-art apartment doesn’t have an oven? Will her abuse ever end?
¿Effie tiene algún tipo de narcolepsia? Pregunta seria y respetuosa.
Effie??? ¿¿¿WTF???
Effie and her pack just can't seem to get a moment to breathe! As soon as they think they have a moment to gather themselves, something else happens that has them rushing off somewhere or defending themselves.
We do learn a couple of very important things in this book! Pieces of a puzzle that will connect to form who Effie really is and what happened in her past.
The ending of this book is tense, especially when they're being threatened to have their pack bond dissolved by the president of the school, but with all that Effie has been managing to do, I'm pretty sure they'll get out unscathed! We just have to read the next book to find out! ;)
Still interesting but man, this was short and quick. There's some progress with Effie and the relationship with a couple of her mates, but it's still slow going with the others. It definitely felt like Caedmon and Ryder got more page time than the others here; not that it was a bad thing.
We're slowly discovering (heh) Effie's past and what possibly makes her so unique, but it's still not totally clear. There are some problematic folks trying to come in between their bond and possibly put Effie in danger, but we're not all too sure why yet. I can't imagine this wrapping up even in the next book, but as long as we get more relationship progress, I'm a happy camper.
I'm still looking forward to reading Pursued, but hope it'll be a little bit longer than what we got here. Overall, a quick and enjoyable 3rd installment.
Ok this one picks up wayyyyy more. The ground work got laid in the first two now we get to see more action and actual development. I am still so confused why she doesn’t just suggest “hey y’all should mark me” if every conversation that has everyone has is the fact that she isn’t marked. The stuff ab her old pack was not surprising but gross tf. I liked how this one ended and I’m ready to see her get answers/ become actually powerful
This was very short and really just filler, but when rated in context to the rest of the series it was a fun addition. In this installment Effie discovers quite a bit about her past and her magic. While the story doesn't make much forward progression we still get to learn more about each individual character's lives. I'm not sure what the revelation at the end will mean for the story!!
Wow!!!! That was amazing. This series just keeps getting better and better! I am going to be anxiously waiting for book 4. Another top notch read from MSinclair. I think her books are getting better and better and this one really blew me away!
I was eagerly awaiting this book, the 3rd of a planned 5 book series, and it did not disappoint! Sweet, naïve Effie is much more than she seems, and we get glimpses of her missing past. She is drawn closer to each of her mates, and those relationships develop and deepen in this book. This was very fast paced, with lots of danger, drama, and high emotion. My only complaint is that it was over far too soon, and I have to wait for the next one!
I just want to say that I love reading almost anything M. Sinclair writes. I love her writing style and storytelling ability. However, I would put this series pretty low on my list of favorites from this author. The reason for this is because the plot progression in this series is glacial. I’m not talking about the slow burn romance either, I’m talking about the actual plot.
In book one FMC arrives on campus and meets her mates. That’s it. That’s all the plot progression present. In book two FMC finds another mate, gets to know her mates better, and learns who orchestrated her arrival on campus and why. In book three we learn FMC is different, has different magic, she’s special and in danger. That’s where we are so far. Cliffhanger ending.
I enjoy the slow burn romance in this series, but paired with the super slow plot pacing it makes me feel like nothing is happening at all.
It may seem like I’m not enjoying these books so far, but I actually am. Maybe I just expect more from M. Sinclair and that’s why I’m so disappointed in the series progression so far. Either way I’m still excited to finish the series and I am enjoying the story.
