Aladdin và cây đèn thần
Cảm nghĩ sau khi đọc: Nếu không có tấm thảm bay ra lệnh bằng ý nghĩ để tìm ra tòa lâu đài, thì Aladdin đã mất nhà, mất vợ, và mất đi cây đèn thần. Cũng còn may à. Hừm...
Hồi nhỏ, tôi từng đọc truyện và xem phim hoạt hình Aladdin nhưng không còn nhớ rõ chi tiết. Xứ Ba Tư trong cảm nhận con trẻ của tôi là một vùng đất chỉ có trong truyền thuyết. Những lối đi chằng chịt cổ xưa, chốn chợ búa xầm xì, và nhiều loại ma thuật thú vị.
Nay đọc lại, tuổi thơ ùa về.
Ôi, xứ sở Ba Tư thần kì, có Alibaba "Vừng ơi, mở ra!", có Aladdin với tấm thảm bay và cây đèn thần, ngày nay lớn lên mới biết đó là Iran. Một quốc gia nằm trong khu vực Trung Đông khét tiếng khói lửa. Ba Tư là Persia, tiếng Ba Tư chính là tiếng Persian/Farsi.
Nay đầu bạc hai thứ tóc, tôi lại bắt đầu tìm đọc truyện cổ tích.
Tôi đọc lại cổ tích để học cách viết, cách hành văn, và để mở mang tầm mắt trước khả năng mộng mơ và trí tưởng tượng bay bổng vô hạn của người đời. Một thời chưa có máy móc, công nghệ hiện đại, mà đầu óc con người đã đạt đến khả năng sáng tạo cao siêu, tạo ra nhiều kiệt tác ly kì. Trộm nghĩ, giá mà tôi thông minh tí đỉnh, có khả năng học thêm tiếng Ba Tư (Persian) hay tiếng Ả-rập (Arabic) để đọc văn chương cổ thì đời hẳn sẽ thi vị thêm nhiều.
"Một ngày nào đó con sẽ đủ lớn để lại bắt đầu đọc cổ tích lần nữa", C. S. Lewis viết. Vậy thì có lẽ, đây là giai thời của tôi. Để thêm phần thú vị và mới mẻ, tôi luyện đọc bằng tiếng Anh, và vì vậy học thêm nhiều thứ mới mẻ.
Đó chẳng phải là cách người ta tìm nguồn vui trong đời đấy sao? Tìm ra cái mới mẻ, vui vẻ, trong những cái ngỡ như chán chường, tầm thường.

Nieskomplikowana historia Aladyna, która na pewno będzie łatwa i przyjemna w odbiorze dla najmłodszych czytelników. Czcionka jest na tyle duża, że dziecko może czytać tę książkę samodzielnie. Ilustracje są kolorowe i przyciągają wzrok. Dobro zwycięża, zło przegrywa. Zwyczajna, ale dość dobra pozycja.

The title page claims that this is "a story from Arabian Nights," but the text of this retelling - and the illustrations especially - take far too much influence from the Disney film. I'm pretty sure the (unnamed) princess in the original tale didn't dream of marrying for love!

Like Paul Bunyan, this is also my first time reading/being exposed to the story of Aladdin! I’ve never seen the movie before or read any version of it, although I have had some speech students of mine write a song about me using the Prince Ali song from the Disney movie as inspiration!
Similar to my thoughts on Paul Bunyan, I thought this story was fine. Not fantastic, not terrible, just fine. There are a lot of parts of the story, at least in this version, that seem to lack the explanation or background to fully understand what is going on. For example, the sorcerer is said to not know why Aladdin appeared in his crystal ball, he just knew that he was supposed to meet him. But he seems to know exactly where to take him, how to cast the spells, directions to give him, etc. My thought is that perhaps if this isn’t your first time reading the story, then it might be easier to fill the gaps yourself. Reading a few other reviews of this specific book, it seems that it perhaps took more inspiration from the Disney movie than the Arabian Nights story.
There really isn’t a focus on one plot line in the book and as a result it’s a little disjointed. There isn’t an explanation for why Aladdin’s attitude changes towards work, there isn’t much time allotted to Aladdin’s relationship with the Princess before she is kidnapped by the sorcerer, we don’t really get much about the genie’s thousands of years trapped in the lamp, etc.

Cute illustrations with some two page spreads. This is pretty different from Disneys version. I like that Aladdin has a parental figure in this as well.

I liked the artwork and this version of the story. The prose seems to be written for children who are comfortable reading, maybe 2nd to 4th grade.

Books from this series are beautiful ilustrated and perfect as shorter version of famous story for adults. For kids, in my opinion, that books are too cut.

The story is a mediocre retelling and the illustrations are HEAVILY influenced by the Disney movie. Disappointing.
