After a traumatizing event and rough sophomore year, Max Kuemper does his best to keep his head down and not draw attention to himself.

For a story that deals with some heavy issues, this was exceptionally lovely.

Max and Luke are wonderful, both as individual characters and as a couple. The relationship development was written beautifully. It's exactly what I'm looking for when I read a romance, thank you very much.

I could nitpick about a few little details, but this was so much better and more engaging than any of the books I've read or tried reading recently, that they are not worth mentioning.

All the stars. Very sensitive topics, you will cry, you will be angry but you will also swoon, laugh, and fall in love with Max and Luke’s beautiful love story.
I wish I could write a full essay on how to convince everyone to read this but I’m still feeling a bit emotional.
I loved this story and I loved these characters as if they were part of my family.

How to meet the love of your life:
1. Go to a 24h dinner with oversize clothes and uncombed hair.
2. Proceed to ask for a coffee when the cute waiter appears.
3. Open a classic book (if it’s a chunky one like Crime and Punishment, better).
4. Enjoy the free pie when the cute waiter uses his break to flirt with you.
Exactly, this could only happen in fiction-but sounded amazing, right? 😫😭

I was extremely excited to read Save the Game after LOVING the first book in the series and the author didn’t disappoint. It’s my second book by her so I could check that she’s able to write different types of couples/characters, with their own kind of humor and dynamics. This is something I really appreciate because a lot of authors write the same book over and over with different fonts. Comparing it with Shots on Net, Save the Game it’s more serious because it deals with difficult themes (Max (H) was victim of rape, though it was not on page).

Max was my baby. It broke my heart how much he suffered: he doesn’t remember anything but the consequences are visible (PTSD, insomnia, panic attacks, loss of appetite…). I really appreciated that the author didn’t make it seem as if Luke (H) ‘fixed him’ at any point, as it’s common in a lot of romance books. Luke went to see a professional to ask for help to ensure, as much as he could, that he wasn’t going to trigger Max. Everything was consented, even if they had already done it before (like removing a t-shirt) and I appreciated the execution. Max also found help talking with his coach (which is a main character in another book by the author I need to read), who is a bit of a parental figure here.

Luke was everything Max deserved: they made a beautiful couple (and he smelled like sunshine 😫). While Luke was a bit too silly at times for me, it was obvious that they made each other happy. Even though I enjoyed book one more (because my level of enjoyment reading that book was ridiculous) I’m sure most people are going to prefer this one. I think I didn’t love it as much because I was too worried about Max to relax but, taking into account the premise, that was something that was going to happen if it was done right (Luke and I cared too much for him😊).

Overall, I would highly recommend Save the Game if you want to read an emotional romance that deals with sensitive themes in a respectful and realistic way. Max’s journey of healing and learning to trust again was beautiful and the book was full of tender moments that will melt your heart. I’m really happy that I found an author that’s making me love mm college romances again. If you excuse me, I’m going to continue slowly binge reading her work (I’m letting myself read one book per week LOL).

Save the Game is an emotional opposites attract romance between athletes Max and Luke. I loved how well-paced this story is given its sensitive subject matter. Max is a lovable quiet guy who had one of the most traumatic experiences that ever happened to him and Luke is the sunshine that allows him to finally feel safe and secure to finally trust another person again.

Overall this is a moving story about second chances while allowing time to heal and learn to trust again. I loved how the author wrote this story, these characters, and the very important subject matter that is not discussed often enough. Max and Luke are amazing together and I loved that they were able to connect, learn, and find happiness together.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book.
There was next to no hockey, the plot focused on Max and Luke. I loved Max and Luke together. The story didn't feel too heavy, despite its serious content.
Luke caring so much for Max, comforting him, their hugs and kisses... lovely.

Author redeemed. Oh, I loved this book! Hockey player-baseball player sports romance, but, the focus is on the relationship, not sports, FYI.

TW for SA. The book opens in the hospital after it happened, it is not on page and the MC (Max) doesn't remember what happened, but it haunts him throughout.

But the focus is on the sheer joy of his romance with the wonderful, bright and kind Luke. Luke is the perfect match for Max, and their connection on page sings and shines. The underlying sadness is there, but Luke could not be more wonderful as he realizes Max has trauma and supports him without making him feel broken, shows him he's here for it, likes being around Max, calling him "Maxy" and showing up for him time and again.

Max doesn't want anyone to know what happened; it's been a year, and he has nightmares and hasn't been intimate with anyone since, but, Luke flows over him like a warm balm to the soul and it's just lovely to see them fall for each other. I had "laugh-through-tears" feelings a couple times when people warned former man-ho Luke to not mess around w Max; the very few who know what happened have his back.

Of course there's tension around what happened, but I loved how it plays out and how they work through it all together.

This is also a book where the antagonist does NOT get away with it, and while the way that goes down stretched credibility to the breaking point, it's a book, and the beat-down is one of the most satisfying moments.

Max's best friend/roommate who was there a year ago/their friendship has been a bit broken by what happened and I didn't feel that got resolved. There's nothing bad there, just, Marcos's guilt over not stopping it (he couldn't have)/not knowing has wrecked him too, and that's not dealt with. I hope he gets a future book. It felt like a loose end.

Max finally figuring out how and who to open up to was cathartic. Those secondary characters are terrific and I do think they have a book. #goestofindbook

The ending is abrupt and I'd have loved more, but, nothing was wrong. Just not quite enough. But it didn't take away from how much I loved the story, the author's style and deft way with characters

HEA, hurt-comfort, former playboy, SA recovery, new-friends to lovers. Beautiful story. Highly recommended.

Off to give all the author's other books a chance and greatly hoping for no rake-in-the-face moments like in Shots on Goal (which I was loving a lot until I got smacked w the rake). But this author is terrific w connecting the reader to characters. So. More chances! Hope to love most of them.

I really love the way this author develops characters and their relationships throughout their stories - they feel like real people and I love when that happens.

Max just had me wanting to hug him and feed him - he really appealed to my mothering side! He's struggling to rebuild his confidence and pretty much most of his life after surviving an SA, his best friend is struggling not to blame himself, which is giving Max another thing to worry about, and then he meets human sunshine in Luke.

Luke was just so endearing, I loved his energy and I loved the way he approaches getting advice about how to have a sexual/romantic relationship with Max. They are absolutely adorable together and I'd happily read more.

It was also nice to see Carter and Zeke too, as well as Nico and Lawson. I really enjoy the wider community of characters in these interlinking series.

My biggest gripe though is that there are no consequences for the police officer who betrayed Max's confidentiality and privacy by disclosing what had happened. That is never ok and if I had been in Max's position, I would have felt incredibly violated and wanted to know there had been repercussions because it's gross negligence. If there had been some consequences for this then I could have rated this higher but it just felt a little unrealistic with this element.

Again, the ending is rather abrupt, but I've come to expect that as it always happens in this author's books, and I'm excited to see what's next. Definitely one of my favourite new authors this year!

" “It’s all right,” he says, so quietly the words are barely given life before they are gone. My throat feels tight, and it’s a little hard to swallow. “It’s just us.” "

This was an emotional rollercoaster and I did cry a few times.
Max story was heartbreaking and the way the author handled it was done with sensibility.
Luke was the perfect person for Max,they both brought the best in each other and Luke helped Max finally start the healing process and realize that he needed to talk to someone.
Their relationship was sweet and very soft,Luke was from the beginning respectful of Max trauma.
Marcus was the kind of friend that you call when you are in need of help,he was so caring with Max and was there for him anytime Max needed him.
In conclusion this was a very sensitive subject to write about and I think the author did a great job in the way she wrote it.
I hope the author writes more in this series as I really would like a story about Vasel.

Phew, that was not what I was expecting.
I thought this one - as the first in the series - would be an easy, fluffy-ish, classic hockey romance. But that was not the case, because this book deals with some HEAVY themes (I’ll list some tw down below; I feel that’s necessary in this case).

It honestly didn’t even feel like a romance in the traditional sense, the story centering heavily on Max‘ fight back into life, back into light after his truly horrific trauma a year prior to the time the book is set. He fights and fights and fights and does so with the help and love and patience of Luke (and his friends and coach), who is pure sunshine and exactly what our broken boy Max needs: safe, a protector, fierce, decisive but also light and laughter and easy to be around. I loved them together 💕

Even so, I was first and foremost rooting for Max and his journey much more than I was rooting for the couple per se. That’s not a bad thing though, just different from what I was expecting.

Nevertheless, this was a beautifully mastered hurt/comfort romance, with strong MCs, a convincing journey of overcoming trauma and finding joy again and I would have given it 5 stars, if not for THE FREAKING ABRUPT ENDING AGAIN, WHAT THE HELL?! IT FELT LIKE THE LAST TWO CHAPTERS WERE MISSING?! I actually got mad for real this time, because I feel like the characters deserved more, hell, WE deserved more after suffering with Max and rooting so hard for these two for 300 pages 😤
So, 4⭐️ it is 🤷‍♀️

TW
- sexual assault/rape (off page)
- Drugging of MC with rohypnol (extent/effect of the roofies on page)
- Severe panic attacks (described in detail)
- Symptoms of PTSD
- Insomnia & loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- Hospitalisation (brief)
- Injury/violence

I really love that feeling when I can't stop reading a book after randomly picking it up.
This book had everything to pull me out of the months long slump I had been in. I simply couldn't put it down. Max and Luke were utterly lovely, and I really loved how gently and carefully the author handled the sensitive topics in the book . The main characters' relationship progresses slowly, with good communication, and that's another thing I absolutely loved about the book. To have someone like Luke is 😭❤️❤️ He is such a green flag!
The side characters were wonderful too, though I wish the author had delved more into the relationship between Max and the coach, as well as the one between Max and Marcos.

The only complaint I have is about the ending, it felt abrupt. I really would have loved to see more of Max and Luke’s relationship progressing over time, showing how they continued to grow together. While they got their happy ending, the ending felt sudden and somewhat incomplete?.. That’s the sole reason I’m deducting .5 a star🏃🏃 I just wish there was more of this book.

4.5 ⭐ / God, I love JJ Mulder. This book takes on some really heavy topics, and I’ll be honest... I went in cautiously optimistic, a little worried about how those themes would be handled, especially after hearing mixed reactions from people I trust. But in my opinion, JJ approached it all with so much care and realism. Even with the darker elements, there’s so much joy infused into Max and Luke’s journey. I felt just as giddy watching them navigate their feelings as I did with Zeke and Carter in Shots on Net.

I did have a couple of small bumps. Margot’s role felt underdeveloped, and I couldn’t quite figure out why she was included especially when someone like Bryce, who ends up being so central later on, might’ve filled that space more naturally. It felt like the story was trying to expand its world a little too quickly at times.

Still, this is a beautiful, emotional story, and I’m so happy to add it to my growing list of MM favorites. JJ continues to impress me with the care, joy, and authenticity they bring to their characters.

Another 2024 5 star favorite to add to the list!!

These two were so cute from the start, I was invested from the moment they met. Although the story deals with very sensitive subject matter (plz make sure you read trigger warnings before reading to see if this book is safe for you) Max and Luke’s relationship always keeps you warm and smiling throughout the read.

Max was so sweet, shy and so cute, he deserved all the good things. What he went through was so heartbreaking I just wanted to give him a hug. 🥺 I’m so glad he found Luke because his sunshine was exactly what he needed AND deserved. The banter was definitely bantering, the care, consideration and communication (mostly) was there, and the spicy scenes had so much emotion attached to them that they were super intimate as well as hot 🥵

We’re most definitely crowning another consent king with Luke🤴🏻 Omg Luke!! He was the best part of this book for me he was so careful with Max, I love how protective he was of him almost instantly after meeting. Everything about Luke was endearing without being fake or too perfect, like what a doll 🥹 He was definitely perfect for our sweet Maxy 💕

JJ Mulder’s writing is so natural and engaging that you’ll most definitely go looking for more of her books to read, just like I did. I can’t say enough good things about this book, the characters, the writing, how it handled heavy subject matter while still being a fairly light and warm read, I’m gonna need a second to sit with it before starting another book 🥹

This book is phenomenal! It made me cry a million times, tears of sadness, joy, relief and pure cuteness. Don’t let the pretty illustrated cover fool you, because this book delves into heavy, emotional topics like sexual assault, drugging, trauma and panic attacks. And everything is written SO WELL, respectfully, tactfully and realistically. J.J. Mulder has created a masterpiece that climbed right to the top of my all-time favorite reads.

Luke and Max really hit me in the feels. They are to be protected at all costs, I don’t want to see anyone hurt them ever again. They deserve to be happy and live in peace. Both Luke and Max are incredibly lovable! I would literally d!e for them. Luke is literally an angel sent from heaven and his purpose in life is to love, respect and protect Max. He’s such a flirt, but when he loves, he LOVES deeply, there's no doubt about that. He’s not just the “perfect boyfriend” in a cheesy way, he’s written with so much depth that his love and support for Max feel utterly genuine. You can’t help but fall for him, he is wonderful.

Then there’s Max. Sweet, resilient Max. What can I say about Maxy? He’s been through hell and is just beginning to heal with Luke’s love and the support of his best friend Marcos, Coach Mackenzie and everyone around him. Max’s journey is raw and emotional and all I want is for him to find peace and happiness. All the secondary characters are also beautifully developed and their roles are crucial in Max’s story. I truly love and appreciate each one of them.

What I appreciated at the end is that everything doesn’t magically get fixed. Healing is messy and ongoing and this book honors that reality. All the characters continue to struggle because of what they went through, even if they find some closure. It felt very authentic.

The bonus epilogue from Marcos’s point of view absolutely wrecked me. His guilt over what happened to Max weighs on him so heavily and it left me desperate for his story. Thankfully, it looks like we’ll get it and I couldn’t be more excited to see him find the support he needs to finally move on.

I could talk about this book forever. It’s amazing, deeply affecting and unforgettable. Every scene, every emotion and every character left a permanent mark on me. J.J. Mulder, you have my heart with this one!

I would usually complain that for being a hockey book, there’s barely any hockey-related activities, but I gotta say, that for once, I didn’t miss the hockey content.

This book starts with a devastating prologue. Max wakes up at the hospital just to learn his life has been irrevocably changed. Fast forward a year later, and he is still barely surviving. Then he meets sunny and flirtatious Luke, and everything changes for the better.

This is one of those stories that emphasizes that yes, meeting your person is amazing, but also getting professional help and a support network can do wonders for you.

The plot is sad because Max struggles through the whole book with the repercussions of what happened to him, but Luke provides all the support and Love he needs. Their relationship was so lovely to read, I just wished it had an epilogue!

Firstly, friends, check the triggers and then buckle up because Save the Game smacked me right in the feels.

I cried.

Like a lot. A LOT.

But just know that Max Kuemper deserves all the love and hugs in the world, and must be protected at all costs.

AND LUKE!!! The way he was so patient, and constantly supported and protected Max when he needed it the most… 🥹😭😍

I loved them, and I loved this.

- best friend’s teammate
- hurt x comfort
- found family

Oh ouch, this book is a lot heavier than the first one. I can't even be mad at it for making me cry because I loved the book and the two main characters.

That said, this isn't a "love cures all" book, more of a "sometimes the right people come into your life at the right time" one and I really loved it.

Max isn't doing too well when he meets part baseball player, part waiter, part sunshine golden retriever Luke who's instantly drawn to Max. Neither of them are looking for a relationship or emotional attachment but they just click. As much as they seem like an unlikely pair, they're absolutely wonderful together and their relationship felt really organic and beautiful. Both give the other something they didn't realize they were missing or thought they could have, and I fell in love right alongside them. I suspect I'll be thinking about Max and Luke for a long time ❤️

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series though I feel the endings in both books 1 and 2 have been kind of abrubt and have gotten close to being frustrating, especially because I worry it's a pattern lol. Another author I love also can't seem to write a fulfilling ending and it bothers me so much, but fingers crossed the rest of the series won't have the same issue.

“Sometimes I’d like to hide; if nobody can see you, they can’t see something they’d like to take.”

I knew Max’s story was going to be a painful one as soon as I met him in book one. Thankfully, this was also a journey of healing, a happy ending full of promise and happiness.
I loved Max and Luke together, their sweet connection such a contrast to the horrible things that happened to Max.

Be careful if you have triggers, because although the assault isn’t on page, the aftermath is. And it was equally as painful to follow Max’s struggles, how he tried to adapt to his life after, tried to overcome the side effects.
Luke was lovely, how he cared for Max, protected him. The comfort definitely made up for all the hurt.

I’m loving this series, and I hope the next installment will show us Marcos and the story behind his touch aversion.

Surprisingly lighthearted for the most part, considering the traumatic event we’re dealing with here.

I’m talking, ofc, of Max, whom we already got to know in the previous book. And I’m not giving too much away (considering it happens in chapter 1, and it’s more or less clear after reading the blurb) that he’s been given date raping drugs, and raped, even though he can’t remember the incident.

So yeah. Serious stuff. But nevertheless, it will leave you smiling almost the entire way through, and that’s mainly because of Luke, who’s sunshine and playfulness personified, and who is such a perfect match for Max - kind and patient and understanding- that it’s a joy to watch Max heal.

And yes, it helped that the rapist got his comeuppance 🤬

Here are some of my favorite quotes, to help you get an idea of how the book is written:

“Good morning, baby,” I reply, because I’m a fucking sap, and he drooled all over me, and I want to keep him here forever.
(…)
“How do you always smell like sunshine,” he mumbles, “it can’t be normal.”
“What does sunshine smell like, anyway?”
“You,” he says, and I laugh because that makes no damn sense at all. 🫠
(…)
“Would it be okay,” I start, staring at the way his long eyelashes throw narrow shadows down across his cheekbones when he blinks, “if I… do you want to…”
No amount of dim lighting could hide the amusement in Luke’s eyes.
“Yes, you can put your dick in me if that’s what you’re trying to ask.”
Groaning I drop my forehead down onto his shoulder. “I was trying to find a classy way to word that.”
“Sir, would you like to be penetrated in some early morning coitus?” He says, adopting a ridiculous accent.
I laugh, digging a finger into his side until he’s laughing too. I lift my head back up and we grin at each other. “There’s just no way around it. You cool if I fuck you?”
“Super cool with that.”

Not giving it 5 stars, because there are some niggles I can’t get over - mainly the unnamed officer who told his sister about the incident, and who, it turn, told Luke about it. Seriously. That’s a no-go, and I would have sued the hell out of him.

And ofc, there’s the abrupt ending this author seems to love 😂 no idea why she’s so against epilogues - I’d love to see my babies well and happy 5 years from now. As it is, it feels a bit unfinished.

I loved this so much!
Angsty, gut-wrenching but also so damn sweet and romantic and lovely. I never wanted to leave Max and Luke <3

Like the first book, I managed to inhale "Save the Game" in just over 24 hours: I couldn't stop reading. I swear, J.J. Mulder's writing seems to be like crack in book form: it flows like a dream.
I adored the story, and I loved the dynamic between the two MCs.
Max was my favourite, obviously: I knew I was going to love him, but gah, he stole my heart and he made me cry and laugh. He also made me want to jump into the book to protect him: he absolutely deserves everything good in the world. I also really liked Luke, especially his more protective and caring side. He's such a sunshine-y character, and I'm so glad he was there for Max when he most needed it. I loved their relationship, and I especially adored all the side characters, both new and old: Marcos has my heart (I HOPE WE GET HIS BOOK!!!!!!) and Vas is my literal son (I LOVE HIM), and obviously, Coach and Tony <3 I loved those two so much that I'm officially jumping into J.J. Mulder's other hockey series just to get their story. I'm so excited!

Those last chapters broke my freaking heart (ALSO, THAT BONUS CHAPTER: I SOBBED), and although I kinda wish there was an epilogue of some sort, I think abrupt endings are the author's MO. I'm so excited to read the next story in this series.

TWs/CWs: rape, non-con drug use, disordered eating, panic attacks, PTSD, violence.

“You’re not broken, Max. You’re beautiful and kind; you make me fucking laugh, and it’s not like you’re even trying to do it, but everything you say always ends up being what I needed to hear. I wanted you the moment you walked into the diner that night—I wanted to know you, and touch you, and just be around you. None of that changed when I found out about the party. I know you’re mad at me, and I’m going to do what you asked and leave, but I’m not leaving for good, okay? I’m not walking away.”

THIS WAS SO FUCKING GOOD OMFG. I feel like if Luke Kelly ever said “Hey you” to me I would burst into flames immediately 🥹🫶🏼 and fucking sweet sweet Max who must be protected at all costs!!!

-This book kinda opens with a rather jarring scene with Max at the hospital having a rape kit done after being drugged at a party than the book opens a year later with Max. We’ve met Max before in the first book in the series and he always seemed kinda sad and reclusive and now we find out why. One night Max wanders into a diner and enter the chatty bubbly flirty Luke Kelly.

-The banter between these two was everything hahahahaha but also had some really sweet and wholesome moments too! The author covered really hard topics with a lot of grace and I felt like it was done very accurately. So bravo from me for that 👏

“I didn’t pick you up,” I point out. “You just sort of attached yourself to me.” “Like a cuddly and adorable koala.” “Or a parasite.”

“Hello, you,” I greet him, and he smiles. Wars have been fought for less than a smile like Max Kuemper’s.

-Luke Kelly the man that you are 🫶🏼🥹

-Will definitely be checking out more audios if more come from this author!

This one mostly just had me wanting to cry.

I hate what Luke's friend did because it really really REALLY wasn't her place to share that. 'Don't treat him any differently' but you went out of your way to share his business that you had no business knowing to begin with.

Because see how you're causing ghosting allegations because you wouldn't let people say their things in their own time. Actually this book is basically people not minding their business. Ditto Marcos telling Max that Luke is a man whore(though honestly that's not as much a gross violation as what Luke's friend did).

Well intentioned but the results were heartbreaking.

See how because she couldn't keep her bloody mouth shut, everything took on an all new meaning after Max realized Luke knew? Even the most thoughtful gestures are suddenly nefarious so fuck her fr.

Max thought Luke kept backing off sexually because he considered him spoiled goods😭😭😭😭😭

And I don't think sexual assault survivors should carry any shame whatsoever but it should absolutely be up to them when (and with whom) or even whether to share that with anyone.

The scene where he found out who his rapist is and he couldn't decide whether to break down or dissociate and instead focused on nursing Luke's broken hand😩😩😩

These poor babies.

And Luke is such a green flag and a thoughtful MC but I guess I just hate that it was necessary because of those reasons, even though I love that Max got that kind of person.

Honestly this one did not give me the good feels I look for in romance. I don't hate the writing, I just hate everything about the content.

I can't believe I've been frothing at the mouth to get my hands on the audiobook 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I regret everything.

I cannot tell you how much I wanted to love this book. JJ Mulder has quickly become a favorite author, and I was chomping at the bit for this book after Shots on Net. However, this book missed the mark for me, and here's why:

- I had to suspend a lot of disbelief surrounding Max's SA. A student severely roofied and raped at a college party and there's no repercussions for the school? Nothing in the news? There were absolutely no resources provided to Max, like school counselors or community partners? I understand SA is often swept under the rug, but every college has investigations, even anonymous, surrounding events like what Max went through.

- Everything in the story felt unearned. Max and Luke click & start dating right away? Margot (who we'd never met before) tells Luke what happened to Max? Max just happens to overcome his trauma by having a few conversations with his coach, sex with Luke, and maybe some visits with a therapist? (Not even sure if he DID see a therapist, and what a missed opportunity to show Max working through his trauma with professional support.) Also his rapist just happens to reveal himself to Luke at the one party he attends all year??

- Who was Luke? Who was Max beyond his SA trauma? I wanted to know these characters but feel like they were just vessels for a story about SA. Which I guess is fine, but it wasn't for me.

- Why was nothing ever concluded with Marcos? They still have a strained friendship and nothing came of it.

- The ending is abrupt and unfinished. JJ Mulder does this with all her books, unfortunately, and the stories don't even wrap up in the next book. (JJ wrote an epilogue for Shots on Net which I got through her newsletter, and it was an amazing ending! Why not actually include it in the book??)

Anyways, I still enjoyed the book and felt deeply for the characters and laughed along with them. The characters from other books are beloved. I just feel like it could've been so much MORE.

"There is a pressure mounting in my chest, and I think that if he doesn’t kiss me soon, I’m probably going to die."
I really enjoyed this! This isn't a lighthearted reads (seriously check the TW because this deals with some dark themes) but also managed to be full of hope and cuteness and love.

Luke and Max's relationship was great. Luke was just a happy golden retriever type and Max was more reserved but they worked so well together. I loved their soft moments, just talking about how much they like each other and eating together and cuddling.

Dnf @ 40%.

I LOVED the first book, but this one just isn't working for me. I think I would've enjoyed it more if there was a bit more build-up to Luke and Max's decision to "go steady." As written, everything feels too easy and insta. Luke goes from happily bouncing from guy to guy to all of a sudden only wanting to be with Max, not knowing anything about him other than he's an amazing hockey player, he's attractive, and he was a victim of sexual assault. He should've heard about this from Max since it's his story to tell, but his best friend, Margot, ends up telling him instead. None of what I've read so far feels believable, and to be honest, I'm a little bored. 1 star

The ending needed… more. An epilogue to show something happy and encouraging maybe. This felt a little on the unfinished side and I feel sort of cheated out of an hea. There was a vague hfn ending, but even with that, the happy part seems like a bit of a stretch.

Ending aside, I did really like this book. It was heavy and I definitely wouldn’t call it a “feel good story”, but I thought it was quite well done and I loved both mc’s.
