On the cover of the book it says that it is "an illustrated reference." There are many copies of old paintings and very few recent works of art. I personally did not think they added much to the book and made reading more difficult. In the last chapter the author makes many statements based on a questionable exegesis of Scripture. I think his imagination runs loose in that closing chapter.
