Near death experiences get a horrifying twist from novelist Jason Starr!
It's the near future, and some people who have had Near-Death Experiences have come back "changed." They exhibit extreme behavioral changes, becoming increasingly paranoid and violent, and no one knows why. People who have had NDE's fall immediately under suspicion, and in some cases, are murdered by justice-seeking vigilantes. It is in this world where Beth, a quiet high school student with a bright future, will learn just how quickly friends and family will turn on her when she has the bad luck of surviving the worst night of her life... Award-winning novelist Jason Starr (Wolverine Max, The Chill) and artist Andrea Mutti (Conan, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) deliver a gripping but deeply human drama set in an uncertain world. Collects the complete story from The Returning #1-#4.

Started off interesting but then didn't bother to answer any questions. It's about a teenage girl who has a near death experience. People across the country and have been having them and then returning and killing people. But why doesn't this girl want to kill people. Why are so many people having near death experiences. It's not a common thing for people to die for even a few minutes. The book ends without a real end to the story. It all just felt pretty pointless by the end.
One thing I was surprised about is how much Andrea Mutti's art has devolved over the years. Here, it's solid stuff. I just read an advance copy of A History of Violence and his art is terrible. It looks like rough sketches on the backs of napkins drawn in crayon compared to this.
Um. I’m not sure what to say about this. I enjoyed it because I wanted to figure out exactly what was going on. It takes FOREVER for Marcus to finally divulge any useful information. Good setup for a volume two. But something about reading this felt like a chore. I’m not sure how willing I am to pick up the next volume. I’m not too big on zombie apocalypse type things because it doesn’t feel like there will ever be a clear outcome. I think here I’m having the same thoughts.
Holy Shit. that was good. that was seriously good. (And how come there is very little reviews about this?) This comic falls under the "zombie" apocalypse genre and also has similar themes of The Giver such as the mentor-mentee relationship.
Action packed, great storyline and suspense, and the I loved the main character. I'm hoping for another one?? that'd be great! Overall LOVED IT. Its been a while since I've been invested in a comic for a while like The Returning.
